  • NF520T-C35 compatible with GTX460 video cards?

    Hello,
to cut it short - I have problems installing Msi Cyclone GTX460 768MB/OC on this mobo. Until now I had Asus 9800GT which worked flawlesly. Preparation is done as usual (cleaning old drivers), vga in case, login to windows (XP Home, SP3), installation of new drivers (from MSI DVD that came with vga), restart... Then I came to the Windows logo screen, keyboard initialized but mouse NOT, and then after a few seconds - black screen. Fans are working, nothing I can do except for restart.
After that I can boot to the safe mode, mouse will sometimes initialize, sometimes not, but I can at least logon to safe mode via keyboard. I did other varants that came to my mind:
-deleting drivers in safe mode, rebooting, normal logon in Windows, then installing the newer ones from Nvidia site. After the reboot, exact the same hanging after Welcome screen.
-deleting drivers in safe mode, reboot to normal Windows, installing the older drivers (last ones from 9800GT) - no help, because drivers do not recognize 460GTX, and ask for a newer drivers
The usual suspect in this case is a power supply (Cooler Master 450W Real Power, 12A/10A at 2x 12V rails in continuity, 18A/16A at peak 60. sec), but I doubt that it is a problem - even if the supply is not strong enough for excessive 3D, it can at least have enough power to boot into Windows?
So, the only other explanation that came to my mind is that maybe my mobo is not compatible with GTX460 card? Why, because I found reports that some people needed to update mobo bios for GTX460 to work, but without any specific details about manyfactuter, chipset, etc. The latest bios is installed on my mobo, from May 2010.
Any help will be highly appreciated!

So I gave up on waiting for a miracle to happen, and bought a new motherboard (Gigabyte GA-M720-US3). Straight instalation, not a single problem, vga is fast as Usein Bolt... All the other components in rig are exactly the same, as well as Windows XP instalation (no, I did not reinstalled it), so it is pretty clear that for some reason MSI NF520T-C35 motherboard is not compatible with GTX460 cards. Is it a problem with this specific mobo or with a design of GTX4XX series, it is hard to tell -  I have found many reports that people are having identical problem (hanging at a Welcome Screen) with GTX4XX cards from other manufacturers, on many different motherboards, in all MS OS's. But for the end user, conclusion is clear...
Big thanks to all the people who tried to help me! Problem not solved, rather overcomed.

  • Need help overclocking Phenom 2 1100T cpu on a 890FXA-GD70 mobo

Need help overclocking a AMD Phenom 2 1100T cpu on a 890FXA-GD70 motherboard. I only want to overclock the cpu, not my ram. Basically, I need to know which voltages to change and at what voltages to start at. Also, I've currently have the cpu multiplier and Turbo Core multiplier set at 3.7/3.9, not the stock 3.3/3.7.
    Computer Spec's
    NZXT Tempest EVO case
    MSI 890FXA_GD70 motherboard
    AMD Phenom 2 1100T cpu
Corsair Hydro Series H80 heatsink (mediem setting)
    G-Skill Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 ram 16 gbs @ 9-9-9-24-40-2T (going to be getting Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 16 gb. kit in 2/12)
OCZ ZX Series 1250 watt modular psu
OCZ Vertex 3 120 gb. Max IOPS ssd
2 Western Digital Caviar Black 1.0 tb. hard drives
HIS Digital IceQ X Turbo X Radeon HD 6950 2.0 gb. video card (getting 2nd IceQ X TurboX HD 6950 2.0 gb. for CrossfireX next month)
    Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1850 tv tuner
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

If you didnt adust the multipliers for anything or changed the FSB then simply bump your CPU (Not CPUNB) to about ~1.42v   that should keep it stable.
Run Prime95 or Intel Burn test for a couple hours to make sure

  • Msi Kt7 Pro2-a Kt133 highest cpu support???

Yes I was wondering I have The
    MSI KT7 Pro2-A mobo
Well my 4 year old duron 750 finally gave out cause it was chipped too much.:(
I was wondering how high of a cpu with my motherboard take??
Another thing about this board. Why is it that I can never update my Bios  past anything after 3.2. I've tried 3.5 with LiveUpdate it updates it but when it time to boot to windows it gave me "No Operating System Found"
Then I just reflash it with 3.2 version so it would work again. I also follow that article on how to flash bios with a Ntfs parition. Still anything after 3.2 will not work with this board.
So does anyone out their have this exact board but was able to flash beyond 3.2 bios version?
Also I notice on the bios page that support for XP chips are only available for the turbo boards which I assume the Msi Kt7 pro2-a isn't.
Yeah I know my board is old an probably won't support newer chips. But I really don't have the cash to get a new mobo but only for a cheap chip.
So If anyone here has this exact board please tell me what chip you are running?
Cause right now it seems like 1.2 duron is what I have to settle for since it's pretty cheap in price but not sure if my mobo will support it.

I poked around the MSI archives, and here is a link to your CPU support - up to 1.2 Duron and 1.4 Tbird (both 100FSB). Good luck.  :]

  • MSI K9A2 with Phenom 9500 problems

I've been asking MSI technical support some questions and after a day or two they just delete the post without giving a reason, so this is nagging me now.
Firstly, I've tried BIOS 1.0, 1.1, P0C, P0D and 113 BETA. The latter is the best one and I'm using it right now.
    Problems are many:
    1) Before I have booted up at NB frequency 3.1GHz and P95 4-cores over 1hr20mins no problems and ran over 30 benchmarks. Now suddenly I cannot bootup at even NB frequency above 2GHz.
I've booted over 2GHz NB frequency over 60 times neched/tortured stable on stock volts so that can't be the problem. This messes up overclocking completely.
    2) I have booted up HT reference clocks of 266MHz maximum. No crash. Now I can't even boot up 241MHz
What is happening, is the source code having problems?
    3) Why does AMD OverDrive 2.10 freeze my system if I start it? Why does it suddenly crash my system at stock? Enthusiasts have said its MSI BIOS issue. Whenever I change a single value in there or press "Apply" it will freeze my system. Any fix?
    4) Do you have any BETA BIOSes that I can test or modded BIOS yet? I will test them for you if you want because I'm testing this system now and need them. Yes I know the issues with BETA etc, I'm an ex-programmer.
    5) Why can I not run DDR2-1066 or higher than ratio 1:2? This is so limiting. Why is there no option for tRC higher than 26?
    6) Why can I not run HT from 2GHz-2.6GHz?
    7) Why can I not change CPU VID and if so, why does the system not POST?
    8) Why can I at times bootup 265MHz HT ref., bench it perfect, pass stability testing and at other time randomly the system will not boot up even if 1MHz above 200MHz?  >:(
    8) Why does CPU/HT speed downclock if I set NB speed higher than 2GHz or NB multi higher than 9x?
*** Is there any fix to any of the above? I would like some information as soon as you can please, to know what Phenom performs like to sell it or keep it before Xmas.
Thank you in advance. And FYI yes I know how to overclock using MSR Editor/Memset/AOD/AM2+ P-State Values/WPCREDIT, its dangers, how teh NB/HT/CPU speed and voltages are worked out etc. Mmy system is very well cooled in ambient 2-4C and I've only needed stock volts on everything to get 2904MHz screenable, 2860MHz benchable yet. But suddenly, after flashing this BIOS, things have gotten bad.

    Thanks for the replies.

Increasing the memory controller's operating frequency will increase performance for sure, but having the HyperTransport speed higher than 1GHz is pointless.
Firstly, the HT frequency can never run above the NB frequency on Phenoms. The system will always make sure the NB frequency is higher than the HT frequency. So to get 2GHz-2.6GHz HT, we have to have high NB speed at 2-2.6GHz or above. But I can't increase NB frequency past 2GHz at all. I can't change NB and CPU VID which AMD said should be changeable and allows overclocking properly. They said its a BIOS problem. And having high HT is supported by Phenoms and should be easy. Which means either the BIOS/board is buggy or the CPU is buggy.
    Quote
What other people get doesn't mean you will get the same results; overclocking is a gamble. Give the system some time to breath, run it at stock for a few days, then try overclocking again.
I've had it for 3rd week now and gave it time, first two weeks stock. I think that's long enough. I know it's a gamble, but HT 2.6GHz is not a gamble, it's basic specs it should do with ease. Same with DDR2-1066. The board cannot run anything above  divider 1:2 and HT ref. is stuck at 260MHz for the CPU. Which means I cannot run above DDR2-1040 which is still less than my RAM rated speed. I also cannot run the tRC needed for those speeds. BIOS gives no options for it above 24. AMD said it's the BIOS bug.
    Quote
The default HT 3.0 speed is 3600MT/s which I believe converts to 2600MHz. Try running the HyperTransport @ 2.6GHz so a x13 multi, then run everything else at stock. Try to see if everything clocks correctly and that the system is stable at stock.
    At stock the system runs:
    2200MHz CPU speed
    200MHz HT ref.
    5x 1000MHz HT link
    1800MHz NB speed
I can't do above ~1980 on HT and NB no matter what BIOS/OD setting I choose. Absolutely no way, the system will either not POST or downclock automatically. :(

Have you read about the Phenom's L3 cache bug? Could be a cause of crashes and what not...
Yes. I've been thinking the same thing but how can I be sure if it's the CPU that's buggy?

    Other answers:
    2) Reference clock of 300 here with considerable ease, BIOS 1.0. Might be the cpu that's holding you back...
Yep, it's CPU. My X2 5000 BE can do 400 on the board easy. Maybe more, I've only booted with it 3 times just to check.
    Quote
    7) By CPU VID you mean Vcore? Only CPU voltage setting available in BIOS, works fine here.
CPU VID is the Voltage ID to each individual core. It decides the Amps fed to each core and is locked on some systems and unlcoked on others AFAIK. It's different to VCore.

    *edit*
Seems like this L3 cache bug might cause your Hyper Transport querks:
    Quote
...We tested at a 2.3GHz core clock with a 2.0GHz north bridge clock, because AMD told us those speeds were representative of the Phenom 9600. Our production samples of the Phenom 9500 and 9600, however, have north bridge clocks of 1.8GHz. Because the L3 cache runs at the speed of the north bridge, this clock plays a noteworthy role in overall Phenom performance. We've already confirmed lower scores in some benchmarks...
    Source
Does AMD Overdrive provide you with the option to toggle the bug fix on/off?
Hmm.. it looks like I cannot run anything above 1980 on NB or HT anymore.  NB frequency really does increase perf. I've tested 2GHz-3.1GHz before last week.

  • MSI K9A2 Platinum + Phenom 9600 + 2GB Mushkin XP8500 cannot boot into windows

    Hi!
I am building my computer using the Spider platform and I ran across problems during booting into windows.
I am using MSI K9A2 platinum with Phenom 9600 and Mushkin 2Gb kit XP8500 ddr2 1066. I have no problem installing windows xp.
The problem starts when I install the utility and drivers that come on a cd from MSI, my computer requests to re-boot after installation and after
that it will not boot into windows. I can get to the windows logo and then the system reboots right away.
I checked the bios and it shows that the ram is running at 800mhz and i have tried running with just 1 stick and im getting the same problem every time.
Anyone knows how to resolve this?
    thanks!

Everything is stable now...I guess installing the driver from the MSI website is the best thing to do right now
I notice that my ram is underclocked to 800mhz instead of 1066mhz...I have update the motherboard BIOS to v1.2 and i checked that the ram is running on unganged mode...I tried adjusting the spd to 5-5-4-12 with voltage of 2.2v as suggested by the mushkin ram itself
    Any idea?
"I have update the motherboard BIOS to v1.2 and i checked that the ram is running on unganged mode..."
    That is the correct mode.
"I notice that my ram is underclocked to 800mhz instead of 1066mhz..."
1066 is not officially certified by JEDEC, also your memory probably don't have SPD configuration for that freq.
Contact to Mushkin for more details.

  • MSI Z97 Gaming 7 + Annoying long CPU-Fan Spin-Down since 1.4

With BIOS 1.4 at time when i4790k arrived on market with their famous boxed coolers, MSI changed their BIOS to have a spin down-time for the CPU-fans of 5400 seconds or 9 minutes.
It is totally disgusting to have such a annoying new feature without an option to shut it off with decent cooling present.
I use the Scythe Mugen MAX and have plenty of powerful fans inside the case well arranged.... since 1.4 i feel like ripping of this vacuum cleaner and burn it with gasoline.
Is there any help in sight to make this frakk stop?

Well so what was the point of 3 posts if wanted only single modded BIOS? Also should've explained what you want from modded BIOS, not the problem.
The motherboard itself does support these frequencies, but not the CPU. And it won't run properly until you either understand it can't or find it yourself during hundreds of tests. You can keep trying, I wish you good luck running these frequencies but with all honest, there is very little chance.
You did run single kit, but did you try anything BELOW 2666mhz? You won't achieve anything through these frequencies. Also if you could try to run whole set of 4x8 with at least 1866 then you should be happy. It's out of CPU specs, not Mobo's. Can't deal with it to be fair that CPU can't support these. Also make note that if CPU can't support and doesn't work with it, then no matter how good is the mobo, it won't work properly.

I'm guessing he means the Platinum, not premium.
Arcenon, contact the manufacturers of the coolers(also look for a MOBO compatibility list) and ask if they will fit.

  • MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum Smart CPU Fan reports 0 rpm ?

    Hi
I have a MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum (MS-7125) motherboard with an Athlon 64 3700+ CPU and an Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 HSF.
In the BIOS setup, in the 'Monitor H/W' area you can set something called the 'Smart CPU Fan Target'.
o  If I set this to disabled, it reports a fan speed of about 2,280 rpm.
o  If I set it to 40°C, it reports a fan speed of 0 rpm !  (the fan is turning)
The MSI Core Center utility and Everest Ultimate also both report the fan speed as 0 rpm.
I assume that if I disable Smart CPU Fan, the fan always rotates at max. rpm; if I set it to 40°C, the fan runs at a slow speed until the temperature exceeds 40°C, at which point it speeds up (likewise if I set it to 50°C or 60°C).  However, the fan IS turning.
Can anyone explain this ?  I would like the reassurance of having the CPU HSF speed reported.
Incidentally , the PSU is an Akasa AK-P460FG
       (3.3v = 30A, +5v = 30A, +12v1 = 14A, +12v2 = 15A)

Very old post yes but I feel the need to reply anyway because I have the same problem myself.
Very strange and would be nice to hear if any more of ya guys out there can see the same.
