  • How many HDD and max capacity for 2.66GHz model?

i was wondering how many physical hard drives can be installed in the 2.66GHz model of the iMac? also, is it possible to install more than 750GB? i noticed on the iMac specs page that the option for 750GB+ hard drive is only available on the 2.8GHz and higher.

Ahhh, well that's a new one on the market.
The iMac has Firewire ports (one of which is FW800, I believe, on the newest models) so you can add more storage externally. If you put in a larger drive you will need an external one at least the same size or larger for backups. If you plan to use Time Machine for backups then you need backup capacity about twice the size of the main hard drive. That means an external RAID array to provide 2 TBs to backup a 1 TB drive or 3 TBs for that big Seagate drive.

  • How many SATA-harddisks?

    Hello,
how many harddisks does the xserve "support"...
    a) without raid-card
    b) with the raid-card
I know, the xserve has "only" three modules but i need 4-6TB storage and i don't have the money for promise-solutions... [if possible: 6x1TB with Raid 5, i know, then I need the raidcard]
In the Mac Pro you can put 6 harddisks, is this posible for XSERVE too (e.g. the other 3 harddisks outside the xserve)? Do I need adapters or special cables?
    Who can help?
    Thanx
    osxfan

Definitely you will need the RAID card, but I'm not really sure the RAID card that's part of Apple's price list has an external interfaces. You might be able to 'string' an external SATA connector to one of the PCI slots and have it all tie into the same RAID card.
I don't have any experience with the Apple RAID card since its announcement. I can't speak to what interfaces it has available beyond the 3 connectors it would need just to hook up to the internal Bays of the Xserve. If there are any spare connectors, you could probably rig up something to get an external SATA connector available to connect eSATA drives up.

  • How many apple TVs can you have on one network 5, 10, 15, infinite?

I have an application where there are many rooms and I would like to be able to use Airplay in each room, can I buy 10 or more Apple TV units and put them all over my house on my wireless network and be able to airplay to any one of them? What is the limit of Apple TVs that I can have in one area. Has anyone tried this? How many have you maxed out at? What is the limitation?

There is no specified limitation but you will encounter a practical one. It will be a function of the numerous and generally unpredictable variables that affect any wireless network.
Ten Apple TVs is certainly within the realm of possibility though. This post reports success with fifteen of them.

  • Multiplier Problem: P35 Neo-F (7360) + e8500 Rev.E0.

    Quote from: francis511 on 31-December-08, 02:28:18
I bought an e8500 (eo stepping) and the 9.5 multiplier option is unavailable in the bios of my board. I am running bios 1.9 and neither it nor 1.1a solved this problem. When I tried  bios 1.8 , the board refused to boot until I swapped back to another chip.
    I have the same problem with a P35 Neo-F (7360) whith a e8500 Rev.E0.
Initially, with native bios v1.7, after assembled the system, it doesn't come ever at the bios . It crashes at splash screen (no Bios, no F11 choice).
I make a update of bios with a "desperate" Ctrl+home at version 1.9, but the bios give a "Cmos checksum error".
However, I succeed to installed the s.o. (win xp sp2) and finally I succeed to flash the bios by usb device.
Now, i enable EIST through the control panel->Minimal Power Management but the multiplier don't increase over 9x in the bios options.
    How can i do?
    Thanks
P.S. I'm sorry for my little english!

Update your BIOS to the latest Version .

My itunes will not open no matter how many times i try! It says its due to a problem. what do i do?

When you gte requests to locate iTunes.msi like this, the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility usually fixes it.
Here is a method for removal, clean up and reinstall of iTunes.
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??

How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??
i have 2 IDE hard disks & 2 CDROM drives: can install SATA hard disk added to these drives or do i have to remove some???
& if it can be added, can i install 2 SATA drives???
    THX in advance

The 3 versions of this board that are available are:
    875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0)
    875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)
All of these boards will have the following ports provider by the chipsets ICH5R south bridge.
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
    2 x PATA (Supporting 4 IDE devices)
All 6 of these can be used at the same time (provided you are using win XP or 2K) you just need to make sure yor BIOS is set right.
    ->INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS
    ->ON-CHIP IDE CONFIG
ATA CONFIG: S-ATA ONLY or P-ATA ONLY
    S-ATA/P-ATA KEEP ENABLED: YES
    OPERATE MODE:
If you set to "legacy mode" S-ATA are set to channel 1 and 2 and P-ATA to channel 3 and 4. If you set to "native mode" P-ATA are channel 1 and 2 and S-ATA 3 and 4. You can only use the raid functionfon SATA in native mode.
If you have the 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0) you will also have the following ports provided by the Promise PDC20378 PCI controller:
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
1 x PATA (Supporting 1 Master IDE HDD drive)
The PATA port is limited to 1 Master HDD by the lite BIOS. This can in theory be upgraded to the full BIOS supporting a master and a slave, but this may obviously void your warranty.
So the answer to your origional question is:
    2 x SATA HDDs and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0) or 875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    or
    4 x SATA HDDs, 1 x IDE HDD (2 if you modify the BIOS) and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)

  • How many times should the computer cycle on-off when doing a factory reset?

I have a Toshiba A665-S6065 which can not boot.  Yesterday I tried the Auto Recovery by holding the 0
while booting, and following the default instructions.  It seemed to complete without errors.  But the computer
will still not boot.  Today, when reading the instructions, it said to expect the computer to cycle on and off severa
times.  So how many times?  will there be any propmts or messages?  How long should the entire process take?
How long should the computer be off before it turns on again each time?  I think I might be screwing things up
by intervening and trying to start the computer myself because it isn't clear to me what should actually be happening.
Could someone please tell me what to expect before I start looking at possible hardwre problems?
BTW, I can access the Setup and Boot Menu.
    Thanks,
    kjdroid
    NEW info:
Now when I boot while holding the 0 key, instead of going directly to the Recovery Wizard, it goes to the
    Windows Boot Manager.
from there the options are Windows Setup [EMS enabled]
and Windows Memory Diagnostic, as well as the F8 option for advanced options.
If I select Windows Memory Diagnostic I get
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status : 0xC000000f
Info : The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
If I select Windows Setup or F8 followed by normal windows startup or startup in safe mode then
I get the following sequence of events.
Starting Windows with the Windows logo.
    then the blue screen
Then to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard, where it partitions, and does the CRC and then prompts to press
    finish to restart the computer.
Either the computer does not shut down, or it stops and starts very quickly because all the lights cycle
on and off but it does not appear that the start/stop light actually ever turns off.
Then I get the Starting Windows with Logo again.
Then the Recovery Wizard comes back but only with the screen about partitioning.  It does not
do the recovery and CRC this time.
Nextis the Toshiba Logo reappears again with the options for F2 or F12 for the Setup and Boot Menus.
Finally, I get a blue screen and it appears nothing else is happening.  I let it sit for 30 minutes before I retry, because I am not sure what is supposed to be happening now.
Also, one of my attempts, I got as far as the messages:
    Setting up the Registry
    Starting Services
    Applying System Settings
Will continue after restarting your computer
Is preparing your computer for first use.
But then again, it just goes into the blue screen state until I finally decide to shut things down.
Am I being premature or should I let the blue screen sit there for a few hours while work is being
done in the background?  I don't hear any sounds from the computer that would indicate any type of activity.
    Thanks again
    kjdroid

Actually, it's kind of hard to tell you what to replace. If you have a spare hard drive laying around, go for it. It also could be memory issues (I have the same model as you) & it was my sister-in-law's notebook before I get it. The notebook had several memory dumps that CCleaner found & deleted when I was working on it.
I told her that I would re-install it for her to make sure there no viruses or such. After backing up the computer, I proceeded to what was supposed to work, pressing "0" at startup to no avail, then booted into the area where the system restore, command line repairs & such were, & there was the option for a factory reset, the last option. I chose that one, & like you stated, it rebooted numerous times, until finally it was through. Longest factory re-install I've ever done.
What led me to believe there were memory issues was during the first round of updates, it BSOD'd, another memory dump was found by my portable CCleaner. It still had the original Samsung PC3-8500 memory, so I took the memory that shipped with my MSI (PC3-10600) & installed that, then not only was all fine, it was noticably faster. Once I got it fully updated & scanned with MBAM & the ESET Online Scanner (I always do this when installing or re-installing a computer), I removed my memory & placed hers back in, then returned it to her.
I ended up with it about 10 days later, she said it was still dumping. Needing a spare notebook, I offered $100 for it, ending up paying $150, but still came out way better than on eBay.
Once I got it, I placed the 6GB RAM back in there that I had, & also replaced the HDD with a extra Crucial M4 that was laying around. Right before swapping drives, I ran HD Tune (free) on the original, there were yellow attributes, meaning that it had issues pending. It's a 500GB Seagate HDD that runs at 7200 RPM. Just so happened, I lost a 500GB Seagate Barracuda desktop HDD (7200.11) less than a month ago. Booted the computer, the screen stated "No Operating System found".
So it could be either the HDD or memory (RAM). Or worse yet, the MB itself. Has it been dropped? Notebooks are fairly durable, but they don't take to being dropped very well. Does it run hot? If so, there may be severe dust buildup that's causing it to overheat, that will make it BSOD. My guess is that's it's one of the first three that I mentioned above & if it's the MB, forget it. Prices are too high, even for used ones & in a notebook, it's basically a total teardown to replace it. If it's a new MB, it may cost between $200 to $400, depending on popularity of the model. That's too much to pay to repair a computer built in 2010.
I'm trying to give some suggestions here, based totally on personal experience on my & other's computers that I work on. However, online it's a cat & mouse game. I don't want to tell you to purchase another HDD unless it's almost 100% certain that's the issue. Which is why I asked if you have a spare earlier. Also, try reversing the position of your memory sticks (a 5 minute job), it's behind that lid close to the battery underneath the notebook.
Post back if you need further assistance. Someone else may have other ideas, so follow the thread.
    Best of Luck,
    Cat

  • How many?

Just wondering how many people have actually managed to get their boards to work near enough straight out.  I have my second K8n neo Plat board now and for the second time it has now died again for an apparently reasonless reason.
First the bios frooze complety, worked fine 1 night, next morning it stopped.  Then on the second board i had to find a single sided memory module just to start the PC so i could upgrade the bios to v1.3 (from 1.1).  Then the same happened as the first board but after a restart, after trying to fix the problem it now comes up with a keyboard error (D-bracker is red red green red) i believe.
I know there have been problems with the boards but am i just seriously unlucky or are these boards just purely CRAP?
Anyway id like to know how many people have actually had working boards.

    well, Billandben
i am going through the same stuff right now.
First nothing worked. I checked everything made sure all ide's were nicely in tight and all powers  were hooked up.
But still wouldn't even turn on.. Then i took out my 2 other hds-that were on ide2 and hooked up just as i had them in my old 1700 setup... and whammm Started right up.
Installed xp,sp1,updates.. then i shut it down eat something came back. Wouldn't boot???
Checked all he connections again. Finally it fired up... great, installed video drivers... Shut it down.. just to see if it would turn on again. Nope.. All it did was flash on for about 1 sec. Then it would shut back down.
Now i'm stuck like a few others have said, when i unplug it-then replug it in again. It does the same thing (switches on without touching the power "on" button, only when i hit the switch on the psu). On for no more than a sec. Then goes out???
So.. Not really sure what i'm or if im doing anything wrong. The darn booted fine 10 mins ago.
i didn't want to start a thred since there's about 20+ ppl having the same issues. And most the people in this thred are running clean.. hope i didn't hijack it, but any help would be great!

  • MSI-7043 (PT880 NEO-FSR) Boot Problem

I just installed this motherboard which I purchased on eBay from someone who swears it was working fine before.
I installed it in the following configuration:
    MSI-7043 PT880 NEO-FSR Motherboard (Rev. 2.0) with BIOS version 2.0
RaidMax Scorpio case with a 520-Watt RaidMax Power Supply (its older, but digital P/S tester says everything is OK)
2x1Gig SuperTalent DDR400 RAM <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
Intel P4 2.4Ghz Prescott CPU (FSB533) <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
ThermalTake TR2-M12 CPU cooler <- New
LG DVD-RW Lightscribe 22x IDE Drive <- New 2 weeks ago, was working fine in Compaq PC
Seagate 320 Gig IDE Drive <- 2 Monthes old, was working fine in Compaq PC
    (Drive is partitioned 1-250Gig Bootable & 1-70Gig)
Chaintech Nvidia FX5200 AGP Video Card <- Worked fine in Compaq PC
High quality round 80-pin IDE cables
No SATA drives installed at all
The system POST's fine and recognizes all installed drives, but only occasionally will boot to CD-ROM, and will never boot to hard disk, just sits there with a flashing cursor. When it did boot into CD-ROM, I was able to boot Linux and browse hard drive fine. Booted once into MEMTEST and it ran for hours fine with no errors.
I have tried defaulting BIOS several times, tried several configurations for boot sequence and using F11 Boot Menu. No matter what I do, booting from CD is hit and miss (1 out of 4 times will boot) and it will NEVER boot from the hard drive.
Interesting thing is if I disconnect the hard disk, it will boot to the CD-ROM EVERY time (sort of), but I do have to wait until it says no boot record found on CD or floppy, then press ENTER to try again it boots
After searching for through other posts, I have tried increasing the DDR RAM voltage to 2.6v with no change.
Any ideas??? is there a BIOS limitation to the boot partition size of the hard drive, if so why would this affect booting to the CD?

Ummm... never had that trouble before... It should at least start booting, or at least recognize the boot sector has a valid boot record.
Those are all valid ideas, and I appreciate the input.
BTW, I am not a newbie. I am a telecom, network, and computer technician with almost 20 years of experience. This is just the first time I have had a problem with MSI boards, I use them all the time and they generally work flawlessly. I understand operating system licensing, OEM versions, 32 vs 64 bit, and how to copy files from one drive to another using multiple different ways. I was just hoping that there was something simple going on that I was missing that someone would just say "Yeah, turn XXXXX feature off in the BIOS".
I put an older 48x CD-ROM drive and a Western Digital 40 Gig in it and it worked beautifully, in the middle of installing Kubuntu Linux right now.
I actually resized the boot partition down to 130 Gig with Linux Parted Magic and it booted OK.
I think I actually had two problems with the previous setup:
    1) Boot partition was too large for the BIOS, the entire partition should not exceed the 134 Gig boundry (different sites say anything from 130-138 Gig) for the BIOS on the motherboard according to some articles I googled.
    2) The LG DVD-RAM drive was just too slow spinning up for the bios to recognize the boot partition on the CD or DVD.
I resized the partition back up to 250 Gig and put the DVD-RAM, Hard Disk, Processor, RAM, and video card back into the Compaq, it is a fast (by standards of the day) and stable machine, I was just looking for a way to add some expansion capabilities for more PCI cards and possibly a SATA drive. Anyway put a 2.0 Ghz Celeron, 768 Meg of DDR266 RAM, a CD-RW drive, and a Matrox G450 Dual-Head 32 Meg AGP card I had laying around in place of of the old and will just delegate this to a Linux box.
So far all seems fine, think I will just hold off putting too much into this machine since I was planning on building a new one this summer after USB 3.0 came out.
    Thanks.

  • How many HD's on my 6398

I have an MSI 845 Ultra AR and i like to know how many drives i can connect?
I know I can connect 4 using the IDE channels, but what about raid? I don't intend using the raid channels as normal raid, but is it possible using them as IDE channels?

thats not a problem, but it still creates an array as far as its concerned,so with the bios on it it would then only allow you to add one more, not 3 as you might of thought
read this as well before trying it

  • How many versions of Rdr for windows

i'm wondering how many versions of Adobe reader there are for windows computers?  I have a license to distribute and when I go to download the latest copy the system asks me for what os - XP, Win7, vista, x64, x32 etc.  If one version will work for all these OSes that is what I want.  There should be no reason to have to download one for each OS unless there truly are differences.  So what is different???

If you have a license to distribute, you better go to the direct download location (without the download manager) http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.4.0/en_US/AdbeRdr940_en_US.exe
Or you can go to the FTP site ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.4.0/ and select the language version you want, as well as the installer type (EXE or MSI).
Flash Player comes in two flavors: ActiveX for Internet Explorer, and a plugin for all other browsers.  Find the appropriate downloads at http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

Practically, (unless it has changed with CS4) you maybe able to install it on more then one computer, BUT can only run one instance of the software at a time. You can not run more then one instance of the software concurrently; i.e. you can't run Dreamweaver on Computer 1 and Photoshop on Computer 2. That would be two instances, and is not permitted.
This is my understanding. I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong

    Sorry Fred you are wrong.
If you have a single license you can install it on as many computers as you like. you can only activate the suite on two computers at anyone time. Work and Home or as many of us do it Desktop and Laptop. You can not use the computers simultaneously. You only have 20 activation/deactivations so use them wisely. Student versions only have one activation. You can not break up the suite installs the suite is considered one application.
