MSI P 45 Neo DDR3

Hello, I have a MSI p45 Neo motherboard. Does it support DDR3 RAM?

There are no less than 10 P45 Neo motherboards. Please provide the exact model specifications.
Also see posting guide here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=38822.0
EDIT: If its this one http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1482  then the answer is NO. DDR2 memory for this board.

  • MSI-7043 (PT880 NEO-FSR) Boot Problem

I just installed this motherboard which I purchased on eBay from someone who swears it was working fine before.
I installed it in the following configuration:
    MSI-7043 PT880 NEO-FSR Motherboard (Rev. 2.0) with BIOS version 2.0
RaidMax Scorpio case with a 520-Watt RaidMax Power Supply (its older, but digital P/S tester says everything is OK)
2x1Gig SuperTalent DDR400 RAM <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
Intel P4 2.4Ghz Prescott CPU (FSB533) <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
ThermalTake TR2-M12 CPU cooler <- New
LG DVD-RW Lightscribe 22x IDE Drive <- New 2 weeks ago, was working fine in Compaq PC
Seagate 320 Gig IDE Drive <- 2 Monthes old, was working fine in Compaq PC
    (Drive is partitioned 1-250Gig Bootable & 1-70Gig)
Chaintech Nvidia FX5200 AGP Video Card <- Worked fine in Compaq PC
High quality round 80-pin IDE cables
No SATA drives installed at all
The system POST's fine and recognizes all installed drives, but only occasionally will boot to CD-ROM, and will never boot to hard disk, just sits there with a flashing cursor. When it did boot into CD-ROM, I was able to boot Linux and browse hard drive fine. Booted once into MEMTEST and it ran for hours fine with no errors.
I have tried defaulting BIOS several times, tried several configurations for boot sequence and using F11 Boot Menu. No matter what I do, booting from CD is hit and miss (1 out of 4 times will boot) and it will NEVER boot from the hard drive.
Interesting thing is if I disconnect the hard disk, it will boot to the CD-ROM EVERY time (sort of), but I do have to wait until it says no boot record found on CD or floppy, then press ENTER to try again it boots
After searching for through other posts, I have tried increasing the DDR RAM voltage to 2.6v with no change.
Any ideas??? is there a BIOS limitation to the boot partition size of the hard drive, if so why would this affect booting to the CD?

Ummm... never had that trouble before... It should at least start booting, or at least recognize the boot sector has a valid boot record.
Those are all valid ideas, and I appreciate the input.
BTW, I am not a newbie. I am a telecom, network, and computer technician with almost 20 years of experience. This is just the first time I have had a problem with MSI boards, I use them all the time and they generally work flawlessly. I understand operating system licensing, OEM versions, 32 vs 64 bit, and how to copy files from one drive to another using multiple different ways. I was just hoping that there was something simple going on that I was missing that someone would just say "Yeah, turn XXXXX feature off in the BIOS".
I put an older 48x CD-ROM drive and a Western Digital 40 Gig in it and it worked beautifully, in the middle of installing Kubuntu Linux right now.
I actually resized the boot partition down to 130 Gig with Linux Parted Magic and it booted OK.
I think I actually had two problems with the previous setup:
    1) Boot partition was too large for the BIOS, the entire partition should not exceed the 134 Gig boundry (different sites say anything from 130-138 Gig) for the BIOS on the motherboard according to some articles I googled.
    2) The LG DVD-RAM drive was just too slow spinning up for the bios to recognize the boot partition on the CD or DVD.
I resized the partition back up to 250 Gig and put the DVD-RAM, Hard Disk, Processor, RAM, and video card back into the Compaq, it is a fast (by standards of the day) and stable machine, I was just looking for a way to add some expansion capabilities for more PCI cards and possibly a SATA drive. Anyway put a 2.0 Ghz Celeron, 768 Meg of DDR266 RAM, a CD-RW drive, and a Matrox G450 Dual-Head 32 Meg AGP card I had laying around in place of of the old and will just delegate this to a Linux box.
So far all seems fine, think I will just hold off putting too much into this machine since I was planning on building a new one this summer after USB 3.0 came out.
    Thanks.

  • Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 with MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40)

    I am interested in Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM. Currently, I’m using MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40) with AMD 64bit 2800+ & MSI MS 8907 FX5200-TD128 AGP Card.
Please advice whether the Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM compatible with my systems.

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. In that case, you hold insert while powering on to reset the BIOS to default safe values.
As for your problem getting into Windows' Safe Mode. If you upgraded from another motherboard that uses a different chipset, or if you somehow got the wrong chipset drivers installed, then the old AGP GART or chipset drivers will cause the system to halt/reboot very early in the Windows boot process even in safe mode. I've run into this problem before and its tricky. Best thing to do is switch back to the old motherboard, then go into safe mode and remove all chipset-related drivers, and then switch back to the new motherboard. If you can't do that, try running system repair from the windows setup CD. And failing that, you'd probably have to fully re-install the OS.

  • Problems with msi gf gts450 1gb ddr3 pcie (n450gts-md1gd3)

    Hello!
I just bought msi gf gts450 1gb ddr3 pcie (n450gts-md1gd3). And now i have some problems, when i start play some game( like Skyrim or Dungeon siege 3), after about a minute my pc freezes (black screen, and sound freezes). I look up in my event log and there is: power kernel problem event 41 .
I looked in google for some information, but did not find any solution for me (found some solutions, but did not work for me). Before i bought new graphic card, everything was o.k. Some months ago i had Ge Force 9600GT and everything was still o.k.
    MY PC:
    Win 7 32 bit
CPU: Amd phenom II x2 550 be  3.1 Ghz
    PSU: FSP 400-60APN (400 w)
    12v1-17A; 12V2-17A; 3.3V-24A 5V-15A

All are low and lowest quality split rail psus only one 1A stronger per rail than your current one = no improvement.
Look for a psu with one +12v rail with at least 24A or better.
but how can i know, is it single rail???
is that only one 12v  and no another 12V/2?

  • MSI 875 Pro Neo FIS2R - HDD-LED doesn`t work

    Hello,
yesterday I got my new MSI 875 Pro Neo FIS2R.
Installation of motherboard and Windows XP went without any problem. So I`m very satisfied with this Board.
But now I noticed, that the HDD-LED doesn`t show any activity.
Then I turned around the HDD-LED plug of the Case with again no success: The HDD-LED doesn`t shine...
    My (IDE-)storage-components are:
    Primary Master: NEC DVD-ROM
    Primary Slave: NEC DVD-RW
    2 x WD Raptor (SATA) as RAID0 (ICH5R)
Is there anything wrong ? What can I do ??

    Hello Maesus,
yes, I read your reply. But it didn`t answer my question, why HDD-LED don`t show any DVD-ROM activities (remember, DVD-ROM is IDE-primary master and DVD-RW is primary slave)...

  • MSI 865 PE neo 2 S compatibilty

    Dear Guys,
Please kindly help me to solve my problem with my old system.
I have an old system that I want to use as HTPC. The specs are:
     -MSI 865 PE NEO 2 S
     -1 Gb of RAM
-P4 2,66 Ghz Northwood with Hyper threading function enable.
     -320 GB of HDD.
     -HD 3650 AGP
     -FSP Bluestorm II 500 watt
     -Main board Bios v 2.5
The problem is, when I want to change the processor with P4 3,2 Ghz SL6WG (Northwood) 512kb /  FSB 800. My system wont boot at all.
    Based from:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=543
The P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood CPU listed as a compatible CPU for my mainboard.
I have tried clear the CMOS by shorting the 2 pins, remove the CMOS battery in the mainboard and still no results so far.
When I see the LED bracket it show 4 red light.
I have tested my system with P4 3.0 E Ghz (Prescott) SL7E4 and show no problems. My system run fine.
Am I got a bad CPU (bad P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood) or maybe this CPU not compatible with my mainboard?
Thanks a lot for the response.

You mean when you press the power button, lights come on and fans start spinning, but there are no beeps and there is no display?
The CPU is compatible with that board, so if your system doesn't start with it in, then it must be a bad CPU.
Its definitely a SL6WG? (as shown on the CPU surface)
Yes the processor definitely SL6WG, I saw the code myself in the surface of the processor.
When I start my system with SL6WG installed, there are no beeps sound at all. However all the fan and my pc peripherals starting. My monitor only show the blank screen. with the led bracket in the back show 4 red light.
When I change back my processor to 2,66 Ghz Northwood or 3.0 E prescott my systems runs fine.
    thx

  • Need help overclocking on MSI X48C Platinum with DDR3 14400

    hello everybody
i just installed an MSI X48C Platinum but i woud like to OC the cpu
    to around 3GHZ , and play with ddr3s @ 1800mhz with cas 8-8-8-24
    or less.
These are the settings i'm using atm: all defaults
    q6600
    cpu 2400 mhz
    fsb 266 mhz
    multiplier 9x
    OCZ DDR3 PC3-14400 Platinum Edition
    fsb/memory ratio: 1:2.00 (auto)
    running @ 1067
    cas 6-6-6-18 (auto)

how far can you get with your FSB Clock Speed?  Have you tested anything yet?

  • MSI X48C Platinum and DDR3 corsair 2x4 GB @ 1600mhz WILL IT WORK??

Hi , I truly appreciate the mere existence of this forum .
    my system is :
    PSU : Corsair 650HX
    CPU : Intel Core2Duo E6750
    GPU : Geforce GTX 260
    RAM : (currently 2x1gig DDR2 @ 667 Mhz)
    and
i just bought 2x4gb dims of DDR3 ram (corsair vengeance)
it doesn't work ( i believe it's because it maxes out at 8 gigs so it won't support 4gig dims?? just a guess)
    my question is this :
if i change the memory for four 2gig dims , at the same frequency (1600 mhz , ddr3 ) will it work without the need for tweaking ,
or at least a minimal quantity of the whole tweaking-ness?
i'm only asking because time is of the essense ( i really need the pc working )
and if there is no chance of this combination working, would 4x2 gigs at 1333 Mhz work ??
also , since i don't believe i have ever updated the mobo's bios , should i do that? ( and which is the safest way to do it??)
and just out of curiosity , what is the fastest memory that this mobo can support at 8 gigs without any stability problems whatsoever ??

Your board and the chipset do support DDR3-1600. The memory you are mentioning is not on the support list.
    The board's support states Quote
Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600 DRAM, 8GB Max
Thus you need 2GB modules to get to 8GB if that is what you need/want.
See here for the supported memory modules http://eu.msi.com/file/test_report/TR10_1393.pdf
You will see that no DDR-1600 2gb module is even on that list. Only 1GB 1600 modules were tested.
If you want to use 2GB modules then get yourself 1333 modules. The performance difference is minimal and you should have good stability with these modules.

  • Sempron 64 3000 on MSI MB K8T NEO - FSR

I have a problem with MB MSI K8T NEO - FSR. When I put on CPU Sempron 2600 SDA2600AIO2BA, it works fine and the MB detect it fine,
but when I put on CPU Sempron 64 3000 SDA3000AIO2BX, the MB not recognize the new processor and reports AMD Unknown Processor.
I have the latest BIOS on the mainboard, but the problem remains. Can someone help me who had the same problem?

Cool and Quiet for one. C&Q is not working from my understanding on the Semperon 64's ATM. There is also a fix shown by one other gentleman here in this forum area about removing a file that is associated with C&Q functions. CPUSlowdown or some such. I don't have a Semperon 64 so I can not confirm this though.

  • MSI Platinium P45 and DDR3

Hello i have a MSI Platinium P45 Motherboard and i would like to know if 4GB DDR3 -1333 is supported
    or only DDR3-1066 is.
    -Sheldon

It is very important to pay close attention to the marketing name and the model number when it comes to DDR2/DDR3 support.
The MSI P45 Platinum [MS-7512] does not support DDR3 memory sticks:
    --> http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1479
The MSI P45D3 Platinum [MS-7513] on the other hand does support DDR3 memory (but not DDR2).
    --> http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&prod_no=1480

    i have a MSI Platinium P45 Motherboard
In case you have the MS-7512/P45 Platinum you can forget about DDR3 support altogether as the board only has DDR2 memory slots.  If you indeed have a P45D3 Platinum then you should know that (regardless of what MSI says on the product page for this board) the Intel Chipset Specifications for the P45 Chipset only mention DDR3-800 and DDR3-1066.  DDR3-1333 modules are not officially supported on the P45 Chipset (according to Intel's Datasheets).

Hope this is the right place.
I have the above MB and RAM, to get the RAM to run at 1600 I have changed the FSB : DRAM to 1:4, everything seems to be running fine, is this correct setting for the RAM MB combo? I have a AMD 550 with a small OC of rasing the multilpyer to 17.5, core runng at 3500 Mhz, pretty modest but running nice.
Main question is the RAM setting ok?

I removed the ram, removed the vid card, removed all IDE cables... just power to mobo including 12V and the POWER swtich.... click power.. fans start... then stop. Nothng else.

Well, I guess my reservations were off...
Bought an Enermax 425Watt PSU, with 2 12V rails with 15 and 14 A respectively...
    System booted up...
So, my apologies to whomsoever I was questioning.
Now my question is, how do I go about setting my DDR clock.. it says at POST, 128 bit memory at 133Mhz...

  • MSI K8T(N) NEO Platinum und NMI

Does anyone know whether the NEO Platinum does fully support NMI or not?
Or to be asking mroe specifically: Does the real mode (6.22) DOS emulation of the Creative SoundBlaster LIVE 5.1 work on the Neo Plat?
    Technical Background:
"One limitation other than the settings can also be your motherboard configuration and compatibility. You will need to check with the motherboard manufacturer and ask them does their motherboard fully support NMI (Non Maskable Interrupts) and if it does how to enable them. Some manufacturers of motherboards state that they do support NMI but when tested and used (like with the SB128/Live) they don't work."
    Even more tech stuff:
"Legacy emulation under DOS Creative/Ensoniq cards will not work on systems that .
    a) do not route the PCI SERR# signal to the processor NMI
    b) have a capacitor between SERR# and ground or between NMI and ground that is too large.
Some background is required here. The Creative/Ensoniq PCI cards use the PCI SERR# signal to indicate that someone has accessed a Legacy device register (i.e., Sound Blaster, MPU-401, ). This SERR# signal must generate a processor NMI before the I/O instruction completes so that the Legacy emulation software can perform proper emulation of the trapped I/O event before the processor executes the subsequent instructions.
In the event that the SERR# signal is not connected to the NMI input, the software is never notified and cannot perform any Legacy device emulation.
In the event that there is a capacitor on the line that is too large, the NMI does not propagate to the processor in time to emulate the I/O before the next processor instruction(s) execute(s). If the I/O event is emulated too late, it may have an adverse effect on the system as it may change the state of processor register al at a time when the processor is not expecting it."

Could you provide a direct link or give me the exact name of the thread? I seem to be unable to find the one you describe. Unless you are talking about the WINDOWS driver problems of the AUDIGY 1 which is a completely different topic.

    Greetings,
I recently bought a 4200+ x2 and when i replaced my Venice 3500+ by it i get a Machine Check Exception when windows xp Professionnel is about to load. But when i go back to my Venice everything working properly. any ideas what could cause such a trouble?
my PSU is a ANTEC 550W, i don't think i'm in need of any more power and more i got it recently, so it's almost new and never got problem with it before.
    thanks.

I think that you have to cleanly reinstall your Windows XP Pro operating system for it to recognize consistently dual core cpu.  What bios do you use?  Does CPU-Z say that you have one processor or two in Processor Selection at bottom of CPU Tab?  Good luck.
