[MSI P4MAM2-V] PC keeps reseting when booting/installing windows XP

G'day fellas.
I bought a MSI P4MAM2-V yesterday, with new ram, psu, videocard but use a previous hdd.
Now this hdd has XP already on it, so i tried booting into that with my new system. as soon as the logo for XP came up, the pc shutdown. Werid. So I try another hdd, this one was win 98, and it works fine. strange I thought. So i tried another hdd with XP on it and the same thing happened. thats 2/3 hdds that wont boot and both have XP.
Anyway I formatted the win98 disk using the ultimate bootdisk and then tried a fresh install of XP (using my 'special' xp pro disk) and it didnt work. When it gave me the option in dos to select to make a new installation or repair and old one, it shutsdown. I tried my legit XP home cd - same thing happens
I've tried different cdroms, ide cables, PSU's. ive removed the gfx card and used onboard. I've fiddled around in the bios. i've changed ram, ive run tests on my hardware using the ultimate boot cd.
I have no idea why its having a cry over XP.
any ideas?
Cheers

I can understand the pervious XP not working.
im using a 2.53ghz celery
512mb ddr400 kingston
gigabyte cdrw
I think this is my PSU: http://hardware.gamespot.com/Thermaltake-Silent-Purepower-TT-420AD-420-Watt-13045-S-16-23
I know its a thermaltake 420w, but ive spraypainted over the label. anyway atm im using a generic psu, but i did try with the TT.
these are my basic specs that im running with and a 15gb seagate hdd (the one which is now clean), a 120gb maxtor (has XP on it) and a quantam fireball 15gb with XP.
btw thanks for the quick reply

  • MSI Neo4 resets when booting up windows

    Hey everyone,
I got everything and put it together last night. Posts fine, but right when i'm about to load windows xp, it resets on me (right before the logo shows up).
Is this a memory issue? Power issue? Or is my mobo just faulty? Or did i just make some newbie mistake and overlooked something critical.
    Here's my setup:
    a64 3200+ 90nm on Zalman 7000b
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra Athlon 64 Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard ver. 1.0
    WD 300GB IDE Drive
    asus x300 se/td
    Corsair VS1GBKIT400 1GB Kit DDR400 PC3200 CAS2.5 Value Select Memory - 512 (x2) in slots 1 and 2
    Antec TruePower 380 and Sonata
Oh and temps are fine...i tried different IDE cables and different HD's... tried resetting bios...and everything is stock...no OC.
Thanks in advance for your feedback...
Here's what i'm showing in bios:
    5V = 4.94
    12V = 11.74
    3.3 V = 3.26
    Cpu vcore is 1.37

RAM and CPU are the most likely culprits.  If you have not overclocked your CPU then I'd say check the RAM first.  Go to the RAM settings screen and try increasing the CAS, RAS, etc. to the next higher value from the one that is being used now, and maybe also try lowering the clock speed a little (for example, despite being rated for 200 MHz my modules will cause the system to crash at windows load at 204 MHz and up, meaning that there is very little tolerance for error, so I run them at 190 MHz).  You can also try increasing the voltage a bit, though I doubt that this should be necessary.  If lowering the RAM speed doesn't help, try increasing the CPU voltage or decreasing the FSB a little.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

I have usb driver in may macbook pro 15 retina. When I installed windows 7 and try to download windows support into a CD, boot camp always said it couldn't find my usb driver. My mac version is 10.8.3

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Install the Windows support software from the USB drive. Note that Boot Camp Assistant, in OS X 10.8.3, doesn't support the option to burn the Windows support software into a disc.
Instead, you can try a different thing. Start in Windows and download the Windows support software in it > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Then, decompress the file and run the Boot Camp drivers installer.
If you can't access to the Internet in Windows, start in OS X and download the Windows support software from the same link. Decompress the file, right-click the folder which will show up after decompressing the file and select "Burn". Finally, start in Windows and install the Boot Camp drivers

Of course there is. There is with any computer system that you connect to the internet or transfers files to and from. When you run Windows on your Mac you increase the chance from zero that you will get a Windows based virus to virtualy the same risk as any other Windows user.
The weaknesses in Windows OS and applications are well trodden by virus and worm malcontents the world over. That doesn't mean that OSX is exempt though. All it will take is once and the entire Mac world will sit up and take notice......

Are you saying you're running Windows in BootCamp or Windows as a Virtual Machine? You can increase the fan speed on the Mac using smcFanControl and use the software OGELTHORPE recommended to observe improvements.
smcFanControl is a Mac application and doesn't work in Windows, but if you set a higher minimum fan speed (which is how smcFanControl works) while running OS X, when you reboot into a BootCamp partition, that minimum speed tends to be carried over.

When installing the audio driver, was it installed by following the prompts or in compatibility mode as outlined here?
Based on the Software and Drivers page for this unit, the unit was not tested and certified for Windows 8.  This means that some functionality may not be the same since the unit was not designed for Windows 8.  See this site for information and to find out if it has been tested for Windows 8.
If the sound driver has not been installed in compatibility mode, then I recommend using the Windows 7 64bit driver found here and using the linked steps above to install it in compatibility mode.
    Let me know what happens.

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? First step in Bootcamp Assistant is to download the support software. Then did you install the support software from within Windows?
Read the Bootcamp Install instructions. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

  • Imac keeps ejecting when booting up

Dont have problems with the super drive in other cases. It works fine, burns fine, copies fine, plays fine...
but everytime i need to run something from the disc doing boot up(like the leopard install disc or the vista install disc for boot camp) it just ejects them!
and when i push options button, and get to the OS selection screen, the Imac still pushes out the DVD... And when i put it back in the DVD is displayed as an efi file. I dont know what that is!
when the machine has booted up, it displays and reads and writes all the CDs and DVDs just fine, so its something doing boot up!
is it possible to change something in bios? its probably some stupid little setting i cant figure out.
My Imac is a month old. its the newest high end model. Could really use the help!

I'm experiencing the same thing on a MacBook Early 2008. I used Boot Camp to create the partition and started the process of installing Windows XP. The disc, however, is ejected on boot. Always. I've tried with 2 discs and still happens. If i boot pressing the Option key i can insert the disc and it will be recognized, but i can't boot from it. Something weird is happening.

  • MacBook Pro 2010 hangs when booting from Windows install disk

    Hi there,
I'm trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp. I've used Bootcamp before so familiar I'm with how it should work. I have a USB CD drive, which I've used on other machines OK, and an official Windows Install Disk.
After Bootcamp finishes copying over all it's drivers etc to my external USB drive, it reboots. However, whenever I try to boot from a disk it always just hangs on the Apple logo (no spinning cog/wheel). This happens whenever the Bootcamp installer performs a reboot and/or when I hold down ALT on startup and select the boot CD.
I can still boot in to mac partition. Could this be a problem with the EFI? Any help with identifying this problem or how get the information to fix this problem would be much appreciated
    Thanks.

    Try resetting PRAM…

  • MAX shows PXI card when booted into Windows but not in Hypervisor mode

Hello again all you helpful forum-goers!
I'm having some difficulties with a Hypervisor system seeing the two Pickering 6 channel programmable resistor cards that are loaded into the PXI chassis.  When I boot into Windows mode, MAX sees them under the My System just fine.  When I then run the Hypervisor configuration software, I see them both listed, and have them assigned to the Real-Time OS.  However, when I then boot into Hypervisor mode, MAX does not see them under the Remote Systems -> Hypervisor Target -> Chassis (or anywhere else), and the drivers report not seeing any modules either when I debug my code running on the real-time system.
Does anyone have any idea what setting or configuration I might have incorrect?  Is there any other information I can provide that would be relevant or useful to answer this question?  I'm not the main hardware guy, he just got married and so isn't available, so I'm out of my comfort zone.  ;-)  I write the software that runs on the system, though, so I'm not completely clueless.  I know we just replaced the controller in the main chassis with a faster one (unfortunately I don't have the number on hand, the simulator is down in the lab), but I also know we are using that same controller and Pickering card on a different simulator and it is working just fine.
Any ideas?  I very much appreciate your time!
    -Joe
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Nevermind, the answer turned out to be that I did not have the drivers fully installed on the real-time system.  Apparently that caused it to not recognize the cards.  I never did figure out / remember exactly how to install the Pickering drivers on the real-time side, but fortunately I was able to just copy all the files that had "Pickering" in their name from the C:\ni-rt\system folder of the real-time file directory from another simulator to this one.  ;-)
    Cheers!

  • Black screen when booting to Windows 7

I am running a macbook pro and have just installed windows 7 using bootcamp. Everything works fine when I boot into Windows 7, but it takes 6-8 tries to get in. The screen will just go to black and I am forced to power down and reboot. Does anyone else encounter the same problem?
    Thank you in advance.

By any chance is it like this: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=vobrz6&s=6 (posted in my topic from a few months back - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2244344&tstart=0 )
Basically, Windows 7 will crash / shut itself down immediately after logging in. I've tried everything from disabling and re-enabling start-up items using msconfig.exe; using the default VGA video drivers; and can't figure out what's wrong.
