MSI P55 BD80 wont boot stays of "FF" [SOLVED]

Just bought a new system
Specs:
MSI P55 GD80 motherboard (brand new)
Nvidia GTX 280 (from an old build)
Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.66GHZ (Brand new)
G.SKILL F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL7-7-7-24 Core I5 Memory Kit (brand new)
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W ATX 20/24PIN PSU (brand new)
500 gig Western Digital Harddrive.
So my problem is everything spins up fine, the lights come on, but the error screen stays at FF. I've tried reseating the CPU, swapping ram sticks, tried every single ram slot to no avail. Any suggestions?

Did you check the grounding fingers/tabs on the I/O plate to see if the problem might be a short there? If it works okay outside the case I would suspect a problem there if the MB mounting standoffs are all in their proper places lined up with MB screw holes.

  • MSI P55-GD65 Wont boot 2 sticks of ram

This is my second board I had the first one RMA'd back to newegg. The first one upon receiving it worked just fine out of the box. 20 days later computer would not post with 2 separate pieces of ram installed. Both sticks were in the Black Slots. After taking out memory from Slot 3 Computer would now post and I could get into windows just fine. So I sent it back to newegg. Now after receiving a new board Same problem is occurring in this new board. Computer would post the first week with 2 sticks of memory, Now it wont post with both sticks installed. Took out memory from slot 3 it now posts. Anyone have this problem or can help me resolve this issue? Specs are located in signature. The socket on this board is a lotes socket.

If XMP is enabled the CPU will get overclocked.
Set CPU multiplier to 17 and not higher than 20 with Turbo Boost disabled.
WOW!!! this worked my computer boots up and both sticks are in slots 1 and 3 What did this actually do? I set the CPU to 17 and disabled the turbo boost.
Computer shows 4gb but (usable is 1.99gb) im running win 7 ult 32bit. Shouldnt useable be 3gb with 32 bit win 7?

ive tryed reinstalling ever thing again and using one stick of ram runing out of ideas
    help me please

download the manual from msi site , then look at different light configuration and compare it to what you see on your board when it keeps rebooting, then from the manual you should see possible causes. i give you an example
i see red  red blue red {each light can be blue or red or green,or off}.
and on the manual such config gives the possible cause, cpu not sited properly or memory not installed..
from what you have described it looks you have bios problem which means you have to return it to the seller or nearest msi dealer.

  • Msi P55 GD 65 boots 3 times even on stock settings, CMOS ISSUE

Hi guys, new member here. Very fond of msi due to its informative reviews and let's not forget that most of my pc's troubleshooting sequences have benefited by reading through several threads posted on this site. However, i am having some trouble with my msi P55-GD 65 MAINBOARD. It keeps giving me the CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR. Msi's boards have this annoying habit of booting 3 times consecutively every time i make changes in BIOS (overclocking). However, now even on stock settings, it has started to boot 3 times which is very frustrating, every time. I have tried:
    1: The jumper trick
    2: The battery removal trick
3: loading optimized defaults over and over again
4: Replaced it with a new battery
It still posts 3 times, as stated in the manual, so if u guys have any suggestions, they will be highly appreciated
    Specs:
I5 750 (at stock, all voltages at stock)
    MSI P55 GD65
4GB corsair vengeance at stock as well (1600mhz stock but 1333mhz atm due to this issue)
evga gtx 570 SC (at stock VID and clocks)
    Silent pro M 850W CM
    WD green 1tb
    Plz help me out guys
And yes i have updated my bios using msi live update to v1.11 it still gives me the same issue........plz help me out guys.

When in the BIOS, simply enter the Overclocking Profile Section and change 'OC Retry Count' setting to 1.

As a side note, your RAM may be 'rated' 1600, but that is not 'stock' for the platform, DDR3 1333 is. Increasing the DRAM V. as Bernhard has suggested may help a lot. For attempts for the 'rated' 1600 RAM speed, if the chips have X.M.P. profiles, set the timings and command rate accordingly to the manufacturer's recommended settings. CPUID's utility CPU-Z Memory and SPD Tab's come in handy. Also, if your mainboard BIOS has it, Memory-Z Section can be looked in for information too.

  • Imac wont boot, Stays at a grey/green screen

I am trying to purchase an Imac G5 off of cragislist from someone that says it boots, doesnt chime and stays at a grey/green screen (not sure why its grey/green) Any thoughts about why it wont boot? Im hoping its not a capacitor issue.

Probably a failed logic board or perhaps capacitors. Could also be faulty RAM. I suggest passing on this "bargain"

  • MSI 990FXA - GD80 Wont Boot.

    Hi,
My GD80 board wont boot past code 99, it was fine yesterday but now wont do anything.
It comes up with a list of the HDD devices, and any optical drives, the unganged status of the ram, and says press F1 to setup or F2 to continue. I have tried different keyboards(several), different mice/no mouse connected, also 1 single stick of ram instead of the 4x4gig corsair. In fact, all of the usual stuff for trouble shooting. this is a premium board, I find it hard to believe this cannot be fixed somehow.
    Any help appreciated.
    thanks.

The problem is the same as the screenie above. I know that the board in the picture is a GD65, however other than the board version, everything else is the same. I pressed F1, just hangs with prompt entering Setup...... if i press F2 it just sits there doing nothing.

  • MSI KT6 Delta wont boot

My MSI KT6 Delta system no longer boots any further than the memory test? why? any ideas? any solutions other than replacing the motherboard etc.
    some background:
    motherboard: MSI KT6 Delta
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800
    Memory: 1Gb branded
    Graphics: Geforce FX 5200 AGP
    PSU: Antec TrueBlue 480
Screen displays the memory test then a message relating to BIOS setup i.e. "Del: BIOS Setup" plus a new option i dont remember seeing previously namely "F10: Flash recovery" btw pressing 'del' doesn't help you cant get into the BIOS setup.  Having cleared the CMOS via JBAT1 i now just get the MSI Welcome screen.  If it helps the D-Bracket displays a red led top left.
its all a bit odd really, everything was fine on Friday night, but come Saturday morning its all gone pear shaped.
    any help appreciate

OK. Well, the procesor is where I'd start troubleshooting.
Step one would be to unplug power cable and other cables on the back of the computer, wait a while ( you'll hear a faint zzipp  ), and then move JBAT jumper in order to clear CMOS. That will force you into BIOS.
Eh, thought of something. BIOS will stop sometimes if it can't find a keyboard. And you say entering BIOS is impossible. Perhaps you have more than one problem? a) processor's BIOS settings are impossible, b) the keyboard hinders you from entering BIOS. However, the CMOS clearing should in either case be a good start.
Your problem very much reminds of what happened to me and others while playing with CoreCenter. I know you didn't but can't help saying so.

  • Help MSI KT8 NEO WONT BOOT

I just built a new system, first i ran it baone ,only
    A64 3200+ and MOBO kt8 neo fis2r
everything turned on and fan's working.. then i plugged in memory and vid card.. get into the early bios but some error message came in i forgot but it sounds like gigabit ethernet controller something, i tried to unplug memory then replug it..  suddenly the system turned on and nothing on the screen.. then the system just turned off... , i tried to turn it on , but it just work for 1 seconds then it's turned off by itself...
then I tried to look at processor, wondering did it burn.. i opened the hsf and fan.. then wiped off the ceramique thermal compound, to see any burn marks or smell for any burns.. but nothing.. it was clear.. i put another thermal compound, re attached hsf, put into case.. but now the system only booted for 1 second (the fans and leds etc).. then turned off by itself...  i still tried this barebone..
could this be mobo or processor defect symptoms ??? My finger points to PSU rite now... dont laugh but my PSU is terrible... the +12v is 13Amps.. the others are on 20s and 30s Amps... I already ordered a new enermax 465 , but I just want to be sure from the symptom that it's not the mobo or processor.. cos if it is, i want to RMA it ASAP...
before this I tried an ASUS K8V, i could get into bios but the mobo didn't recognize the optical and hard drives.. the drives didn't power up at all if the IDE cables were attached...but when the cables were unplug and the drives was connected to the molex cable, the drives would work and spinned...quite weird, but it might be 12v power shortage... but just want to make sure if it is faulty PSU... but wont be getting it until tuesday/wednesday... meanwhile i want to RMA the mobo or processor if they're broken...
any help is greatly appreciated... thank you !

even with mobo and processor only... shouldn't the system just run ok ? i mean the fans will turned on, psu fan will works... my biggest suspicion is that the main power from PSU is not getting anything from the mobo and the other fans works because they were connected from 12v, if i plug a 80mm fan to the mobo, it doesn't work either...
with old power supply, i was able to make the system runs with only mobo and processor... they just lit up and works.. but nothing happens tho, just fancy fans and lights.. but at least the psu fans worked.. but then the psu overloaded, i changed with enermax and the PSU fan doesnt even worked if plugged into motherboard
when i tried to use a PSU tester, it was all great, fans working, green light, but when i plug PSU to the mobo, PSU fan doesn't turned on...
could it be when the old PSU overloaded, it fried the mobo too ?? if so , what about the processor ??

  • MSI Z68MA-G45 wont boot.

I recently built my computer a few months ago and it was working great but now when i turn it on theres no video display no beeps no anything. Sometimes when i click the power button it wouldnt even turn on the first time and have to click it a few times before it can even boot up. When i click the reset or restart button i hear 3 short beeps and the computer shuts off and on. I moved the ram stick from all four slots and nothing worked. Do i need to get RMA'd I have a 3 year warranty. I took it to a frys shop for them to build it and its been working great. I dont know what happened. I night before I changed the switch on the power supply to turn it off but it was still on then i removed the power cable and it finally shut off. I had the computer put to sleep mode. I dont understand what happened.
    Specs
    MSI-Z68MA-G45 B3

    Super Talent 4GB DDR3 RAM
    GTX 560 Ti
    LEPA 500W Power Supply
    Maxxor 120GB SATA HDD

I cleared the CMOS and it worked but all my bios settings are messed up back to default and some of them are different then the default when i actually first set it up. Will it be safe to still change it?BTW thanks for the help I really appreciate it.

  • Vista Wont boot, stays in the black loading "Microsoft" screen.

Ok, I'll try to give you as much info as possible.
So I was running vista fine until it started to get extremely slow to boot, and eventually wouldn't boot at all. I erased the partition and tried to install it again. Even at the black loading screen on the installer disk after "Windows is configuring files" or whatever the same would happen. So now I created a bootcamp partition and used it to back-up everything with time machine. Restored my mac, updated everything, restored and erased partition(btw each partition I made was 100 gig). Tried installing it again, STILL get the black screen. I also noticed that each time in the black screen, the green bars that would run across the box in the middle of the screen would eventually slow down if you waited long enough, as if some kind of lag was there after waiting awhile. Oh and right before vista started acting weird, I installed a ton of programs I needed, but maybe one of them was a virus or something? But I don't think that matters because I erased my whole partition completely. I have tried everything I know, please help!

Well, I have found the answer to my problem. It wasn't the cd drives, which I was almost certain I was. It is my video card:
    http://infopirate.org/new-vista-install
If you look under similar entries also you will find more people experiencing the same problem, but this one I gave you is by far the most similar problem and reasonable solution I found. But now, my question is, what is the solution for me??? Do I have to schedule it for a repair in my local mac store to swap the video cards(the one I have in is an ATI Radeon X1600), or can it be swapped at all??? Help I really need to use vista!!

  • MSI GX 630 Wont boot Argh!

I'm away from my manual that came with the notebook as i work in a remote location and work remote hours.

I have pulled out the battery and power, waited 2 mins, put the battery back in, and still nothing.  Is there anything else that can be done (without voiding the warranty)
to get this thing going. Its about 8 days old and im stuck out where i am for another 7 before i can get back to the store that i bought it from.
    Cheers

Just the words i didnt want to hear

Tryed everything re-seated cpu and so on.    everything worked fine two weeks, until today.. sorry my bad english

If you say something like that, please provide links to the threads/posts that describe the "same problem".  Similar symptoms are not necessarely a sign of the same problem.  There can be different causes for seemingly identical symptoms.  As long as we cannot be entirely sure that the cause causes for a system behaviour are identical it is not really helpful to simply assume that the problems are related.

How is that supposed to work?  There are countless systems out there that show no sign of a hardware problem.  In case particular boards became defective during operation (for whatever reason) they need to be RMAed and/or replaced.

Please make a list of the things you are referring to, when you say "everything".  Have you tested the board outside the case (on a non-conducting surface) in barebone configuration (CPU, video card, one memory module in the proper slot, keyboard, power connectors) and cleared CMOS (with your PSU disconnected from A/C power) at any point?

  • MSI p67a-gd53 (b3) Wont boot with ram in slot 1 and 3, or 2 and 4.

Hi i recently built my own system, with just one ram stick in it boots fine and everything.
When i try to put the other stick in slot for so that in runs dual channel it just wont boot, it turns on starts the fans up and then just goes off, and repeats this.
The ram i have is Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit.
It also doesnt work in slots 2 and 4, can anyone help me :(?
    My setup is :
OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
    MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6870 OC HAWK 1024MB
    Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB
    Seagate Barracuda 500gb HD
Gets no beeps on boot with just one stick in, im really confused :s
    All Help will be appreciated.

Both ram sticks worked in slot one and it would boot but I tried running a game and it froze each occasion, cud this be due to the ram being dual channel and only having one in? Or that the ram has the wrong settings.
I have returned the motherboard along with the ram to the shop i got it from for tests to see if the dimm slots had problems. Il let you guys know what they say.
Thanks for the advice, when I get it back il build it again and see if it runs fine, if not il try the things youve said.
Can anyone else shed any light on this? Any other things I may have to try?
    Thx again

  • MSI P55 GD65 Booting issue [SOLVED]

    Hello everyone!
I finished a new build two days ago:
    Intel i5-750, 2.66GHz
MSI P55-GD65, rev. 1.0, BIOS 1.3, Lotes socket
    A-DATA 2x2GB DDR3 1600Mhz CL8 Vitesta Extreme Edition
    GIGABYTE ATi R5850 1GB
    KINGSTON V-series SSD 64GB SATA
    SAMSUNG SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA 7200rpm
Artic Cooling Fusion 550, 550W, dc outputs are mentioned below
and some minor components (optical drives, wifi card etc.)
I started the computer and everything seemed fine. I managed to enter the bios. I was checking H/W monitor and several other options, I didn't change anything. Suddenly (after circa 5mins) the computer shut down and started to turning on and off repeatedly. I stopped the loop by turning off the power supply. I started it again, however it got stuck in the loop imediately. After a while I managed to access the bios again, meanwhile I was trying to find some answers on internet.
I decided to remove all memory sticks (as a lot of topics here in forum which are describing the very same problem sign RAM problem) and started computer. I expected beeps and LED-show. However, the computer didn't start at all! Even fans were not spinning, just nothing (although PSU was giving tension). I put RAM back and computer started. It was like black magic. I tried again, remove RAM - no start, put RAM back - no start too. Mobo went definitely dead. So I RMAed it.
I've obtained a new one, which was:
MSI P55-GD65, rev. 1.0, BIOS 1.2, Foxconn socket
I put all the stuff together and started computer. Everything went fine, I managed to enter the bios. Nevertheless, I decided to check RAMs for sure; I changed booting devices, restarted and booted system rescue cd with some utils. I started memcheck basic test. The basic test was fine with no errors, then I started filling with random pattern test. It ran for almost 24h. I wanted to try another exercise test and... computer shut down and the loop was there once AGAIN!
I don't think the mobo is the issue here anymore. I bet on two things: PSU or RAM (I'm not going to think about CPU!)
I don't recall exact dc ouputs but: AC Fusion has 2 12V rails with 17A each. Mobo needs 18A, but as I understand it, I have to check 2 rails combined against the requirement - 34A > 18A, it's okay, isn't it? I've choosen this one as I wanted silent PSU (it performed really good in tests, f.e.: http://www.anandtech.com/casecoolingpsus/showdoc.aspx?i=3516). I don't have any other similar PSU to swap (neither my friends).
My suspicion is the problem is RAM incompatibility. My RAMs (AD31600E002GU2K) have 1.65-1.8V working voltage. Maybe the mobo sets auto settings badly (I'm not present at my computer now, I left for the weekend); they are not in QVL too (http://eu.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR10_1846.pdf). The problem is I was not able to get into bios before I left. As I read on the internet, P55 is pretty touchy when it comes to RAM. I'm thinking about swapping them for Kingston 2x2GB 1333MHz DDR3 CL7 (http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX1333C7D3K2_4GX.pdf; which are not in QVL either, but KHX1333C8D3K2_4GX are; only latency difference).
Any advices on the whole problem?
P.S.: I've tried CMOS clear on the former one too, no change. As I mention I went through the most of the gd65 booting issues posts here on MSI forum and several others.

Do you think Corsair VX550 550W could do the job? It has a single rail with 41A on 12V. ATi certified Straightpower BQT E6-550W for 5850, which has 4 rails per 18A, but overall 41A too (http://www.be-quiet.net/be-quiet.net/data/media/_stories/216/sp_e6_550_EN.pdf).
