MSI P55 GD-80 PCI express 8x problem

Just got one of these boards have updated to latest bios 1.c
When I use the middle pci express slot GPU-z reports my single card is in 8x mode when I change it to the top pci-e slot GPU-z reports it how it should be @ x16
Is the middle slot pci-e 8x only I thought it was meant to be 2x 16 slots and the bottom slot is 8x ?
Is this a bios issue ? anyone on same bios and their middle slot runs 16x ?
Thanks in advance to anyone that helps.

I am using ONE graphics card in ONE pci-e slot ? did you even read my post ?
Yes i do, but seems you're not...
Only 1st PCI-E slot can run @16 and only when others are empy.
All others PCI-E slots will be @8 max with regard less how many cards are installed.

  • MSI Gaming 9 AC - PCI Express Slots Position

    Hey guys,
Just recently I finished setting up my new machine (even got a problem while updating the BIOS on the mobo, which has been solved with the support from folks of this forum =D) and then after I while using it, I realize that the space between the first and second PCI express slot is just so small, it's my first time running a SLI machine, got two GTX 970 G1 Gaming from Gigabyte and they are so close to each other that after installing some monitoring programs, I can check that the temperature on the first card (the one with no room to breath) goes almost instantaneously to 79ºC~80ºC when playing a high demanding game while the second stays around 64ºC~65ºC, with both cards running at 100% fan speed.
And since the standard thermal limit of the GTX 970 is 79ºC, the gpu clock goes way down from almost 1400 mhz to 1100 mhz to cool it for a while and then boost it again, turn it down to cool it again (and again, again again), there is a noticeable difference of fps while this is happening so I don't know if that is something that is suppose to happen on SLI system or if the cards are really too close to each other, I have check some other motherboards and even the Gaming 7 AC has those two first slots with more space between then.
Is not possible at all to use the third slot to SLI on this mobo to make it work on 8x? There is a solution or some sort of modification to address this? I attached a pics to illustrate it better too.
    Thanks!

Thanks for answering guys, my case is a Corsair Obsidian 750D, so there's plenty of space and also two front in-take fans and one exhausting on the back (I also have a Corsair H100i cooler for the CPU and when gaming, set the fans to maximum speed), in some cases I see almost 20ºC of difference between both cards, yesterday I set the temperature limit a little bit above the standard 79ºC to 82º and while the main card was running on constant 82ºC, the second was somewhere between 62 to 64 degrees, I'm kinda worried about this temps and how it could affect the cards, if they are heating way beyond they should and it if could impact the durability of the physical components, cause a sudden malfunction or literally fry something. Am I worrying too much about it?
It's a shame that it seems to be really difficult to find a XPower AC Z97 board here in Brazil, MSI could have also leave a little bit more of space like the Gaming 7 has, there's a technical reason on why they leave the PCI slots closer to each other on the 9 comparing it to 7?

  • MSI 8800GT cards on PCI Express 1.0a mainboards

    Hello everyone
I hope it's the right forum here to ask that.
I read that many if not all 8800GT graphic cards have problems with older mainboards that use PCI Express 1.0a (like in my case the epox EP-9NPA+SLi). With the right BIOS on the graphics card they work flawlessly however. Now I wonder: Are the 8800GT from MSI equipped with such a BIOS?
    Thanks in advance,

Is that a 100% will work kind of "should be fine"?
I'm a bit afraid of buying a card that won't work in the end and will cause a lot of hassle...
Well can tell you for sure that NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC(http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1343&maincat_no=130&cat2_no=136) works in K8N Neo4-F (PCB 3.0){PCI-E 1.0a) (http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=249&maincat_no=1)

  • MSI Theater 550 PRO PCI - Video IN problems

    Hello everyone,
This is my first post - I have an MSI 865 with a ATI All in Wonder 9600 working wonderfully in the AGP slot (MMC 9.13). I purchased an MSI Theater 550 PRO and slotted it in the PCI slot - installed the drivers from the bundled CD and the PowerCinema 3 application - the TV portion of the card works but the Video IN / S video In - does not work - displays only a black blank screen in the MMC 9.13 and in the PowerCinema the button for capture / preview is grayed out - is my card defective?
I tried to install the patch / upgrade from the MSI site for the VideoCapture to work but it fails saying that PowerCinema 4 is required to apply the patch.
    What should I do?
    Please help..

Yes, I certainly do get an excellent picture when I to the AIWs Composite IN / S Video In Dongle.
I have also tried to use another capture / display program - Media Center Classic (part of the K-Lite Codec Pack) and it too shows that the AIWs IN is working but the THeater 550 shows only a blank screen.
BTW I have installed the latest drivers from the ATI site (the ones with control panel and the C++ update).
The Dongle of the 550 Pro is alright (I checked it by connecting it to the AIW - so the problem doesnt lie there).
That leaves only two options - 1. Defective Card (most probably)
                                              2. Some software problem (less likely - but highly sought)
Please do reply and let me know if you have come across this problem with the MSI Theater 550 PRO PCI with anyone else and how they have solved if they did.

  • MSI 760Gm-P21(FX) PCI-E Frequency problem

I'm having difficulties maintaining a constant PCI-E frequency. AMD Overdrive always shows it to be 60Mhz (and It should be 100Mhz - if I'm not mistaken). Always - meaning at any BIOS settings - overclocked, underclocked and/or 'Optimized Default'.
So I got a letter from MSISupport saying basically that PCI-E frequency on my board is in fact proportional to HTLink frequency. Then I overclocked NB Frequency from 2000 to 2020 hence HTlink frequency went from 2000Mhz to 2020Mhz and fortunately got a reading of 101Mhz by AMD Overdrive.
Now it's all good exept for the fact that I can't overclock the system for gaming (by raising FSB and lowering HTlink and\or NB Freqency) sinse Htlink being set to anything other than 2020Mhz (giving me PCI-E Freqency of constant 101Mhz) - is for some reason set to 60Mhz.
Another thing that really concerns me is the fact that you can completely damage the videocard if PCI-E is set above the default 100Mhz. To add - you can really see the difference between 60Mhz and 101Mhz while playing the latest games (which is why to begin with I buit my PC).
    Here's my PC:
    AMD Athlon x3 450 (3.2Ghz overclockable to 3.6)
    MSI 760Gm-P21(FX)
    2x2Gb Kingston HyperX 1333Mhz (overclockable to 1600Mhz @1.6)
    Sapphire Radeon HD7770 (OC)

  • Z68A-G45 (G3): BIOS screen unreadable on PCI express graphics card

    I have a Z68A-G45 (G3) board with Intel Core i3-2320T processor.  BIOS version is E7750IMS v11.2.
When entering the BIOS setup screen with DEL, everything is fine when the display is connected to the motherboard HDMI port.
When I plug in my MSI Nvidia 8500GT-based PCI express video card and connect the display to its HDMI (or DVI) port, the BIOS screen is corrupt and almost unreadable.  I can see some characters and images -- the BIOS is there, I can see the temperature readout -- but navigation is very difficult.  This problem occurred with BIOS version 11.0; I just flashed to 11.2 and the problem persists.
    Here's what it looks like
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Steve

In case anybody's curious it turns out the issue was specific to the card.  I tried a different PCIe card and the BIOS screen showed up fine.
So finally I ditched my old reliable nVidia card and used the Sandy Bridge integrated graphics instead.  No problems so far.

  • Problem of PCI express link width and speed

    hello,
I instantiate the pci express core v1.7 into a pci express endpoint and the core was configured as GEN I x8 or GEN II x4. By using the example design Xilinx offered in the ipcore dir, I could read and write device by PIO mode.
However, when I check the device’s link width and speed by using lspci –vvvv in Linux, I found that no matter what configurations I set, the device link is always trained as GEN I x1, which means the throughput of device, reduce 8 times. May the most important problem is that all logic in the user layer upon transaction layer are written at 250MHz, and if link width and speed are limited 2.5G/T and x1, I need to change user logic circuit which is a huge work.
So my question is how to change the PCI express link width and speed in OS side, or I need to change a new motherboard?
(I guess it related with motherboard, and I check that the PCI express slot in motherboard support GEN II X16. Another issue, when I insert a PCI express GEN II x8 device, the device is also trained as GEN I x1).

    You have 3 PCI-E x16 slots (x8-x4-x4) and 4 PCI-E x1 slots.
On the other hand, your CPU is limited to 16 PCI-E lanes.
Those 3 x RB44Ge routers are PCI-E x4, so you're going to use ALL the PCI-E x16 slots for them.
With the remaining PCI-E lanes you need to be lucky ...

  • MSI 6600 pci express driver issue

    Evening/Morning all.
Not sure if this would be considered a commen problem or just my luck?
Did the build last week of my current rig (details in sig) and am pleased with how well things are preforming.  However I would like to know if anyone else has had issues with installing the nVidia drivers from the CD that comes included with the video card?
Basically I installed the motherboard drivers in order, made sure that was all nice and happy   I inserted the MSI driver CD for the video card, the autorun kicked in with the "selection" screen.  Went and clicked on the "install nVidia display drivers" bit of fun...and got Nadda thing.  It sat there like a very pretty rock.  I had to install the drivers the ol' fashion way via the system's hardware manager.  Once done it still was'ent right, so I had to D/L the updated drivers from MSI...Un-install the video drivers I just put on...(real nightmare...it also removed several other drivers...as well as the display drivers..done via "add/remove" programs.)
Long story short (I know..to late)  I had to re-install all the motherboard drivers AGAIN...and then did the setup of the D/L drivers from MSI.  This time it seems to be working..  (have several other issues as well...but this one really was 'odd')
Is this something that happens from time to time?  Meaning the CD flat out does'ent install when you click on the 'install' option???
I'd like to think it's the CD...but I also wonder if I missed something along the way.  (other problems will be addressed in their proper area)
    All Best
    S-

This might be the best route.  While I've normally have used the drivers from the motherboard makers websites?  This is the first amd64 939 board I've had the unique pleasure to work with.  The only thing that was a slight letdown was the benchmark..  3Dmark 03.  It only did slightly better then my other computer which my G/F is now using (amd2500+barton, Soyo KT600 ultra plat.)
This is my first run with PCI Express, so I'm still learning all of it's little 'quirks'.  Such as trying to update the display drivers..and accidently nuking out the motherboard drivers at the same time.  (Oppps)
6.6.9.3 seems to be the latest driver pack..and that's the one MSI listed.  I'll keep my eyes open for any updates.  When making a choice for updateing the drivers.  Should I only use the ones that list PCI Express?  I've noted a new(er) version on the MSI site but it did'nt mention PCI Express at all..So I went with the 6693 as it listed support for it.
    Thanks!

There's no way a PCI-e card will work on that board. AGP yes, PCI yes, PCI-e no.

Technically, the MSI P55-GD85 has 4 PCIE slot (2x16 slot, 2x1 slot).
If the 2 x1 slots are occupied (LAN card and TV Tuner) and 1 x16 slot is occupied by the Graphics card, will the occupation of the other x16 slot by a x8 card (Dell PERC 6i) reduce the bandwidth of the x16 graphic card to x8?

    Filip,
Set your Desktop to 16bit color. There is nothing on your desktop in 32 bit color. All it does is slow your comp down. Remember that when you play a game your comp is still rendering your desktop in the background, and 32bit color uses more CPU cycles then 16bit color.
    Richard
P.S. The color setting of your desktop has nothing to do with the color settings of your game.
