MSI p55 - gd80 motherboard code help needed

Hi all, today i moved house and my PC has went awol on me. Basically the monitor, mouse and keyboard will not turn on.. I thought maybe something got moved about in the case, so I basically took everything out and I mean everything and put them back in securely.
After trying several things including resetting the cmos and taking the bios battery out, I still cant figure out what is wrong.
I did notice that when I put my ram in the two blue slots the motherboard wont get past the FF code on the LED display. However when they are in the two black slots the motherboard generally gets to 2E. I understand that it stands for "Initializes all output devices". But I don't know how to rectify this problem.
Oh and I forgot to add, the DVD drive is now not working for some reason and my win7 disk in it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
Iain

Yes you should RMA the card since it works OK with a different one.
For the memory, re-seat the sticks again and I would also suggest re-seat CPU and check for bent/damaged pins in the CPU socket. If all of the pads on CPU don't make full contact with the pins it could cause memory problems. This has happened to others and usually re-seating CPU fixes it.
Thanks Henry. I tried reseating the RAM and CPU but no luck. There is a tiny spot on the CPU.. I dont know if that could be a problem or not?

  • MSI P55-GD80 Motherboard Problems

Well i got the MSI P55-GD80 but the mobo was bad(so said the MSI representative i spoke to) the Intel Matrix Storage Manager is for SATA RAID and AHCI mode for the mobo drivers, wouldn't open it just kept saying an error has occurred and that the window needed to be closed, also when i turned my PC on, the white formating loading bar appeared everytime i turned it on(not that it was formating though), than the normal windows loading bar would load next as normal, the control center for the overclocking was kinda messed up too seance there is like 4 OC choices and they kept going crazy every time i would chose a mod, when i chose "cooling", power just shut off for the mobo, when i chose "game mod" PC just bluescreened me but only with the OC control center, also when i went on standby the HDD would be the only thing going on standby and the mobo(heatsink, fans, lights etc..) would stay on, eventually when i pressed the mouse and then the keyboard the HDD would boot up. The rest was fine, it even booted my 4GB ddr3 ram at its 1600MHz frequency and I'm using Windows XP-32bit, the ocgenie only got to 3.54GHz eventhought i have the Nirvana NV120 Premium from Zerotherm which is awsome for OC(temps were a constant 33*C idle when oc genie was on and 27*C Without OC-Genie) also the liveupdate would freeze on me on the third file and there was a total of like 8 update files didn't remember the names but it was for the mobo drivers. If anyone else has problems or issues with the MSI P55-GD80 motherboard please let me know.. or comment on this thanks...

Please post your full system specs and PSU spec amps. >>Posting Guide<<
    Have you tried reinstalling Windows?
Do not use Live Update for updating of drivers, go to MSI site to see if you really require the updates, which are not a must most of the time. Also uninstall Live Update from your OS as well.

  • MSI P55-GD80 - POST and boot issues

So I built my previous custom rig about 7 months ago and have had no problems up until about 2 weeks ago. My computer began to restart itself and hardlock with no warning. The only indication of what was happening was an IDE Controller error - Eventid: 11 / Source: atapi (most likely HD Cables or Motherboard), so I went out and got a new MSi P55-GD80 mobo today and put it in my computer with a new 850w antec psu. When I boot the computer, it hangs at a black screen for a long period of time (3-8m) and eventually it manages to POST. It doesn't allow me to enter the BIOS setup menu because the motherboard never initializes the setup of USB and other devices (debug code 38). By the time the computer boots to Windows (if at all), the debug code reads 33 and will slowly revert back to debug code 30 over time. I am not able to do anything while in windows due to a lack of mouse and keyboard. It doesn't seem like the motherboard is initializing all of the correct processes before moving on to the next, and I've never seen a motherboard just sit without POSTing for minutes at a time until initiating the motherboard splash logo. Do I need to RMA this motherboard or do you guys have any other ideas?
P.S: Yes, I am booting with one stick of ram in the first black slot closest to the CPU (second slot).

My computer was previously using the ASUS P7P55D EVO motherboard. I had no issues until I started receiving the IDE controller errors that would freeze up my computer endlessly.
So basically I swapped to the new MSI P55-GD80 motherboard on a freshly formatted SSD and am now encountering these strange POST issues.
Here's a walkthrough of what is currently happening to the machine when powered on with 1 stick of RAM in DIMM slot #1, no drives connected, video card/cpu only:
    1. Power button pushed.
    • Computer powers on.
    • Debug LED reads FF for 1 second
    • Debug LED reads d4 for 1/2 second
    • Debug LED reads d5 for 1/2 second
    • Debug LED reads 04 for 1/8 second
    • Debug LED reads 05 for 1/8 second
    • Debug LED reads 06 for ~45 seconds
    • Debug LED reads 0c for 3-5 minutes
    2. The computer sometimes POSTs at this point, with the Debug LED reading anywhere from 30-38 (it changes randomly, sometimes backwards after a period of time), or continues to sit at a black screen until restart.
    • It is still not possible to use any USB or PS2 devices at this point, so loading into the BIOS setup is not an option

  • MSI P55-GD80 socket type

I was thinking of gettting the MSI P55-GD80 motherboard for my next build.  However, I cam across this article today:
    http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3661
It notes damage to the 1156 socket.  Granted, this seems to be only on extreme overclocks.  However, the pin contact issue is what concerns me.  Maybe these are fine now with light overclocking, but, will this be an issue down the road? This only seems to affect the foxconn sockets.  There is some mention that the GD80 may use a Lotes socket.
Could anyone from MSI comment on this?  Do all P55-GD80 motherboards use a Lotes Socket?

  • Serial Number of an MSI P55-GD80 That Uses a LOTES Socket

Serial Number of an MSI P55-GD80 That Uses a LOTES Socket
I bought my MSI P55-GD80 last October 26, 2009. I live in the Philippines
    Here is the Serial Number
    S/N: 601-7581-010B0908684483
I once worked in a manufacturing company. I remember that serial numbers indicate their date of production
I just don't know how to read the serial number of MSI P55 motherboards
I hope there are guys here that can figure this out. I think there's a way to know if it uses a LOTES socket just by looking at the serial number

    Quote
    601-7581-010
The "601" will usually be the same in all serial numbers.  "7581" is, of course, the model number and "010" is the ERP-Number, which will be the same for each exemplar of the same mainboard type/model.
If there is a production date encoded in the serial number (which I am not sure of), it has to be part of this sequence:
    Quote
    B0908684483
The "09" could indicate the year of production.  I have a board here which I bought in 2006 (975X Platinum PUE) and the respective part of the above number is "K06" here.  Another board I have (P45 Neo2) was bought in 2008 and the serial number contains "K08" in the above spot.
Again, I am not sure about this, I am just speculating.  There is usually also an EAN-Number and a UPC-A number on the product sticker, which may contain further clues regarding the production date.
Maybe we can make more sense out of this once we have a few other (older and newer) serial numbers to compare.
Perhaps we can get some users to share this kind of information, so that on the long run, we will be able to say if there is a relation between serial numbers, production date and Socket Type (and not just random use of different sockets).

A bit depending on your PSU and granted it is an AGP card it should work. Haven't heard of an AGP version of 9400 before.  The 4650 is a good choice, but your PSU would need to produce something like 18 - 20 Amperes on the 12v line.
You seem to have more than maxed out on memory.
In your upgrade plans, however, I think you should start with the processor. 90 nm processor would be my choice, hence Palermo 3200+ would be for the best.
    is this the processor?
    its a AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+ Socket 939
will it work even though its a socket 939?

  • New MSI P55-GD80 build incredibly unstable

Just got a new motherboard, CPU and ram, went with the MSI P55-GD80, Core i5 750 and Mushkin 1600 (7-7-7-20). Only problem is every build I have is incredibly unstable. At first when I was installing Windows it would continually freeze on the expanding files section. I read this may be do to a memory issue, so I used just one stick in DIM1. This worked to install but if I put in more than 1 stick I would re-experience freezes and crashes (also experienced them with one stick however). I ran MemTest for 5 passes each stick one at a time, then all 4 at once without any errors. I popped in my Vista 64 disk and was able to install Windows and drivers (with all 4 sticks utilized), though shortly thereafter I again began experiencing crashes (where PC completely reboots) and/or freezes. If audio is playing at the moment it freezes it continually replays the last note, only distorted. I think at this point a memory issue has been ruled out. But everything I try does not seem to produce a different result. I've tried switching out working components from other computers in to see if I have the same problems, and I do, with two different hard drives, cd drives, video cards, and sound card combinations. And furthermore I know from my last computer that all of my recycled components function normally as well.
Also- Currently my case is open and my room is cool, temps on load rarely get about 40c.
    Rest of system:
Corsair HX620 PSU (dedicated lines drawn to all components)
    1xRadeon 4800X2
Seagate 500GB SATA, WD 640GB SATA, Sony Blu-Ray SATA

Make sure that the command rate is manually set to 2T in BIOS Setup.
Test with one memory module only (for the now) and see if that runs stable.

  • MSI P55-GD80 - G. Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3 1600 runs at 1333 MHz only

I just bought my Core i5 setup yesterday. I'm satisfied with its performance.
The problem is that I can only run my G. Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3 1600 at 1333 MHz. I checked the Cell Menu. The highest DRAM ratio is 5. Setting it at 5 makes it run at 1333 MHz only
I have read the manual of my MSI P55-GD80. It states that it supports DDR3 1600 MHz
How can I run my DDR3 memory at 1600 MHz? BIOS update?
My current BIOS version is 1.4

Quote from: cdcellular on 27-October-09, 17:43:29
I lowered my muliplier to 13 (200x13) to acheive 2.6ghz on the processor, but, at this setting now the processor is running 10-15c hotter then at the 133x20 default setting, and yes im using aftermarket cooling.  Why the extra heat at the same clock frequency?
You must set the CPU and VTT Voltage lower.
Example for 2600Mhz(200x13) CPU-Mhz and very low temperatures ->
      In CellMenue:
    - Load Optimized defaults
    - First u must set LoadlineCalibration in Bios to disabled ! ... in the next bios generations it calls Vdroopcontrol(set to LowVdroopcontrol)
    - Turbo disabled
    - Try VTT from 1,2V to 1,351 V- For higher BCLK(200..stock is 133) u need higher VTT-VOLTAGE as stock (lower VTT lower temps for the memory controler) ..use later the lowest possible VTT-VOLTAGE when u make any stability tests
    - BLCK 200 x CPU Multiplier 13 = about CPU 2600Mhz ...RAM u can use now @ 2000Mhz with memory multiplier 5
    - Now set the lowest possible CPU-Voltage in bios for stable usage with your own CPU! Thats the trick.Undervolting the CPU for lower temps an power consumption as stock !
    - Try 1V to 1,024V CPU Voltage in bios for 2,6Ghz(good choice for the newest I5/7 ). Howto->  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=127944.0
Use programs like Linx 0.6.4 to test the stability of your Sys. Howto and download--> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=201670
Now u see temps are down (normal usage SYS). Lower CPU-VCore and VTT lower temps. Higher CPU-VCore and VTT higher temps.
    My CPU:
My I5-750 runs with 1,012V CPU-Voltage bios setting @ 2,8Ghz on P55-GD80. Stock the CPU has 1,264V VCore.
Now I have 25-30watts less vs stock(full LOAD SYS)  and very, very low temps - IDLE and LOAD usage .
Be sure that the 4 first GreenPower settings are @ AUTO.

  • MSI P55 GD80 compatible with Intel COre i7 Extreme 965

hye there, i just wanted to know is the new p55 GD80 fits with intel core i7 extreme 965??..
as far as i concern, p55 mobo compatible with any i5 or i7 board, is that true.?

    The p55 stands for the chipset , so it's a p55 chipset and no x58 chipset ,.
    The p55 is only compatible with cori i5 and core i7 starting with 8... ( 860 , 870) it support only dual channel memory and not triple like the core i7 9... (920 , 940 , 950 965 ,975).
The core i5 and core i7 860 ,870 has the pci-e controller integrated so you have only 1x16 or 2x 8x8  or 1x8 and 2x4 for triple sli in sli or crossfire. The core i7 9.... with x58 chipset have 2x 16 pci-e or 1x16 and 2x8 for triple sli , so for highend multi gpu's the x58 has a advantage and it has triple channel memory , but it is a small advantage.
See here the socket  it support and if it has hyper-treathing or not.
The core i5 750 has no hyper-treathing the core i 7 does, no matter what socket ( 1156 or 1366)

now my temp is 35 - 44c at idle with oc genie on & the clock speed is 4400mhz max, but my board temp always 50-52c at idle, i used open side panel case, coolermaster hyperx+ & my ambient room temp is 30-32c at day time, why my board temp always much higher than may cpu temp?
What are you using for cooling Air cooler or water like a h100?  And honestly oc genie never worked for me, could be over volting your chip making it run hot.  So give us some info on the cooler and maybe your voltages for CPU , CPU-NB , CPU-PLL and any others you wish to divulge.  You can use Control Center and pull them off there.
Also Download HWiNFO and use it to monitor temps and voltages.  It give max, min, current and average, a very useful tool and number one with FX 8350 OCers.

Well let the machine off for a while, and relit the same thing but then, I get to play and no video signal at full power cooler then the system sizing me branded button to reset the motherboard gives me the again.well beep then remove the video card and turned on the machine if so checks it and actually it really is like the motherboard has no video osea warning beep that is about it.
I do not understand is because I happen? which may come to probe taking hd, dvdrw, leaving a single RAM module and it's wrong same.it can be that the pci e slot and is damaged or something or is the source of power that may not support everything I have ....
    My PC is:
    Msi GD80
    I5 750
    ******** ddr3 2x2gb 1333
    Corsair Hx850
    XFX GTX260 Core Edition 216SP
    4 HD's
    3 DVDRW
    2 Funcion Panel's 5,25 ~ 3,5 dimensions
    1 Card Reader
Case Vitsuba Absolut + 5 coolers
    please helpme!!!!
I read in the forum and a user had problems with its 5870 I think it was in the first pci e but before this happened then I do not understand how can I fix this? apparently in the second pci and going well but obviously I run the plate at 8x and not 16x! and very important to occupy the 2 pci so I have to put the vga in the first pci slot only.

Wasn't there some sort of issue with the latest nVidia drivers causing cards to overheat and even completely fail?  Something about making the system think it's at full speed when it's really at less than half or completely shuts it off.
