MSI P55A-G55 and Sata III question

I'm willing to buy MSI P55A-G55. I want to install high speed SSD drive which supports Sata III and normal Sata III plate drive on it. I have also Zotac Geforce 8800 GT graphic card. Will drives and graphic work on full speed while both connected? I can't find any information about it. Another thing: does this motherboard support Intel Xeon x3440? Please help.

Thats a sudden decision?
You can find all the info on the MSI website: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&prod_no=2078

  • Win 7 x64, i5 760, Crucial 64GB C300 SSD & MSI P55A-G55..SATA III not working?

Anybody managed to get this or a similar combination to boot on the SATA III ports?
For me this combination boots without a problem when on the SATA II ports but will not boot at all from the SATA III ports. After changing to the SATA III ports and making the necessary changes in boot priority, AHCI etc. in BIOS the drive is recognised on boot but it just hangs at a black screen with a blinking cursor which eventually times out with the operating system not being recognised. (The motherboard has the latest V1.3 BIOS, the SSD drive has the latest 006 firmware and the drive is correctly aligned.)
Have I missed some obvious required setting in BIOS or loaded the wrong drivers? Is it a problem with the Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller/drivers? ....or have I bought a motherboard that claims to have SATA III and hasn't at all?
The motherboard was advertised and sold as having SATA III capabilities and I don't think I'm asking too much for it to work!
Any help to solve this problem would be much appreciated.

I also have similar problem as you, I've recorded the problematic boot process in video, I think the video can describe better than word.
The motherboard I using is MSI Z68A-GD80(B3)

I would seriously take a look at this thread if you're looking to replace the SuperRaid mSATA SSD with a normal sized 2.5" hard drive....

There should be information there for getting the correct components to do this.

  • GD-85 and SATA III

Guy's, have a new build on the GD-85 with a single WD black sata III HD. On the marvell controller post screen it shows the drive running as SATA II. The drive is connected to the white MB SATA connecters, using the MSI supplied
SATA cable, no jumpers on the drive. HD tuner shows the HD running as SATA II in win 7.All drivers are loaded in win 7 and the device manager shows all controllers. I'm missing something in the BIOS to get this HD into SATA III mode,
what is it that I'm missing?
    Bruce

How many red ones do you have?  Look closely at each cable.  There should be specifications information printed onto them.
I just found the following document on this site: http://www.sata-io.org/developers/technical_library.asp

The same cables and connectors used for current SATA implementations can be
used to connect SATA 6Gb/s devices. SATA-IO recommends utilizing quality
components to ensure data integrity and robust operation at the fast 6Gb/s transfer rate.
Cables already at the threshold of 3Gb/s operating margins may experience lower
performance than expected at 6Gb/s due to an increased number of resends.
Not sure if this has to do anything with you issue but it still makes me scratch my head.

  • Does x220-i7 and x230 support USB 3.0 and SATA III (6GB) ExpressCards?

I am going  to buy a used  x220 i7 or x230 i5 and would like to confirm:
1)Each and every x220 and x230 laptop (regardless of model and options)  does have an available (external) MiniPCI Express slot.
2)Every x230 i5 and x220 i7  (including those that do not have  a built-in USB 3.0 port) will fully support  a USB 3.0  ExpressCard adapter  with 2 USB 3.0 ports and will get a USB 3.0 speed on Win7-64.
    3) Every x230 i5 and  x220 i7 will fully support  a SATA III (6GB)   ExpressCard adapter  with 2 ESATA ports and will get a  SATA III  speed on Win7-64.

It will support the card, but speed may be limited due to the limitations of ExpressCard.

  • [Simple question] MSI GT780DX 406US supports SATA III? (for new OCZ ssd)

     Question:
I have read the specs and could not find anything who says is compatible with SATA 3.
I want to buy this SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227727
But im not spending this much without sure it will work properly.
     Can any1 gimme a light?
ps: whats the better SSD i can buy for 280$?
    thank you!!

Unfortunately i have bad news i asked before msi and they said that didn't know about it.and i got some information about chipset from here
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm67.html?wapkw=hm67
Serial ATA (SATA) 6 Gb/s and 3 Gb/s:High-speed storage interface supporting up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to six SATA ports with up to two ports supporting 6 Gb/s transfer rates.
As you see unfortunately the two port is for USB 3.0 because on data sheet there is no info about usb 3.0 so that means two sata 3 ports are for usb 3.0
that is bad :( i didn't try that but it seems bad...:(

  • MSI Neo2 865PE and SCSI Controller Question

    Hi All,
Im new here so be easy on me
Anyways im currently building a new system P4 System based on the new 800FSB, i have all the parts ready, ie. CPU, DDR400 RAM, Case, Adaptec SCSI Controller, HDD etc etc, but believe it or not i havent purchased a motherboard yet. The reason being i want to get clarification that my setup will actually work with the motherboard before i go out and buy it. WHAT SETUP you ask, please read on
Now the reason im posting here is because from what i can see on the internet this is a really top notch board (best performer in the recent THG test) so naturally its one of the boards im considering.
Now to the my QUESTION: I want to use my SCSI drive connected to the Adaptec as the OS drive and boot from it. However my main concern is that the Neo2 865PE wont let me boot of the SCSI Hard Disk attached to the Adaptec SCSI 21960 controller. Ive been told that certain motherboards eg. ASUS wont detect a SCSI controller on boot up because it will only detect the onboard RAID controller as the SCSI controller, therefore not letting you use the SCSI disk at the boot device.
Can anyone ease my mind and tell me the MSI 865 Neo2 will let me do what i intend??? ie. Boot of SCSI disk.
    Any response/comments is appreciated
    Cheers

    Hi Domino,
Thanyou for testing the setup out for me.....
When you tested it did you have your onboard Intel S-ATA RAID controller enabled? because i believe this is where the problem will eventuate, when you enable the m/b's ONBOARD RAID controllers.
    Cheers

    Hiya All,
Q: could it be that "OCZ DDR3 ram p3 1600 EB 2GK" won't work with a MSI 790GX-G65 mobo because of the "EB" (enhancend Bandwidth) ? ? ?

p.s. asking this for a friend so hard to give more info than this atm

    thanks for your quick reply
The PSU is a HKC USP5550
and forgot to mention that the ram is running on 1333 MHz not 1600MHz.(not trying to run it higher than 1333 MHz atm)
i'm wondering if the "enhancend bandwidth" could be the cause of the system freezing?
or in other words do i have the wrong RAM?

Mortego does option "Restore on AC power loss" works for you? Try to switch off your PSU on back on it and power it after 1-2 seconds. I`m really interested in if only I have this problem as support says or not. In my country my reseller refused to accept RMA because they told me that it`s bios bug and I should wait for updates. It`s frustrating that it restart my PC rather than shutdown it completely.

  • Sata-II or Sata-III -- R945 and Z935 series

    are R945 or z935 laptops series support sata-III ??

I have the Z935 and from Device Manager I can see the Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.
From the Intel web site that is part of the HM77 mobile series chipset. That chipset includes USB 3.0 and SATA III.
I upgraded to a Crucial M4 256GB mSata III SSD and I get read speeds in excess of 300 Mbps as measured by HDTune.
So I believe the Z935 is truely SATA III. I cannot speak for the newer R series models.

  • P55A G55 Problem starting Win 7 Ultimate

    Hi,
with my new PC (I7 860, 8 GB Kingston, Samsung HDD Eco Green, ATI HD 5600) I have serious problems starting Win 7 Ultimate:
After Turn Off Windows and starting the PC with powerswitch it runs the bios boot (by the way: RAM is set to auto, HD to AHCI) and tries to start windows. You can see for a part of a second the black screen with the coloered bubbles and then suddenly the screen flashes blue (same blue like the win-bluescreen) and pc starts to reboot again.
At that time I reach the windows-screen with the boot-options: repair or start normal.
Switching to normal the same thing I described above happens with endpoint repair or normal start.
I can play this game a lot of times ...
But if I turn off the pc at that windows boot-option screen with the power switch and then turn on the power again I reach the boot option screen and can then start windows when selecting the normal start menuentry. I can reproduce this behaviour everytimne I start the pc.
To use the repair function won't work (tried it very often).
When I use Standyby from windows or reboot everything works fine!
    Anyone can help me please?
    Regards Gerd

    Sorry,
I didn't know that I've to specify my hardware that correctly.

  • Xpower not recognizing Crucial SATA III 256GB SSD

    Or well, sometimes.
    Setup:
    Xpower MB
    Rosewill 950 watt Power
    6 GB (Soon 2 be 12) Corsair 1600 ram, 9/9/9/24
Gigabyte ATI 5970 (Soon to be 2)
Crucial SATA III 256GB SSD, AHCI Mode
Some crappy SATA II DVDR drive
I have RMA'd the drive once already, and have also had to RMA the ram... RAM was definitly the biggest problem. The new drive has the latest Crucial BIOS that fixes the corruption problems. I kind of feel I have had to RMA more than I've used on this stinking system, LOL!
Anyway... on to the issue. On SATA II everything runs fine. SATA III works ok most of the time. For some reason SATA III misses the SSD drive (Only thing hooked up to SATA III) every once in a while on boot up. Usually this is after a cold boot. Like, litterally cold.... as in system has been off for a couple of hours. Usually on reboot or within minutes of being turned off it's usually OK. Once it's not recognized, you just restart and it then comes up normal.
Hooked to SATA II, no such problem. Boots everytime.
Maybe the best bet is to get an aftermarket SATA III Controller...? I've read that the Marvell controller is kind of a dog.
Suggestions as to what to try beyond the obvious? (Cables, both power and SATA III/6Gbs, switching to the other SATA III port)
Thanks in advance! I hope I included enough relevant info, but if you need more I'll do my best to find it!

Bad idea.  AHCI is multiple simultaneous read/writes - really bad for an SSD.  IDE is fine unless RAID is being used.
This was a lesson to me too. Quote is from Aaron in another thread.
Added: Rather than just give up & get a different SATA 6Gb/s controller, get a ticket in with MSI Tech Support. That's the only way the board can be made to work right. Maybe try the 1.4b5 bios. If you are running the 1.2 bios, you will more than likely have problems trying to run 12GB RAM anyway. Are you 'sure' you even need 12GB RAM? I can run Crysis with just one 2GB stick without any problem on my testing rig (Crucial CT25664BA1339).

This has been reported by others about a cold boot issue & the reboot is ok. Now, for sure, a ticket needs to get in to Tech Support. They need to figure out what is causing this.

  • P55A-G55 OC can't change BIOS settings

About this, I've also got a P55A-G55, and overclocking in BIOS seems impossible, all hertz related options are inactive and I can't choose them in BIOS, let alone change the values. Anyone have any ideas? Some option or something that needs to be enabled? Help would be very much appreciated

Oh, really? I just thought I wouldn't waste space with my very similar problem, but alright, will do.
Anyway, I should clarify/alter my problem description. My problem is this: I have set some values in BIOS, and my first question is why does the OS max out the multiplier eventhough I have manually set a lower value? That is to say, I have set it at 20, yet in the OS it is at 22. Anyone know why?
Second question, I have also set pretty low voltages, but the physical values are much higher than what I have manually set. That is to say, the values set in BIOS do not apply. Is that to do with the board?

  • Does DV6-6136tx support SATA III?

I just bought this DV6-6136tx a week ago and I'm wondering if i can use SATA III SSD on it.
The chipset is HM65 which should be able to support SATA III.
I want to confirm this before I upgrade my harddrive to SSD.

Do you know the connector within this laptop is installed for SATA III or only for SATAII as Kamat said?
And by the way, are you guys from HP?
The SATA III connectors may have more pins than SATA II but because SATA III is compatible with SATA II the connectors look like the same. I believe that SATA III connectors in Sandy Bridge laptops are installed for a hard drive and for an optical drive. I mean 2 different cables from 2 SATA III ports on the motherboard..
Yes, Kamat works for HP, but I don't..
