MSI P67A-G45 (B3) - Problems with USB3 & Updates & card reader, etc.

Hi, I have the MSI P67A-G45 (B3) motherboard and I'm still having problems with it (as from day one).
1) I still seem to have some problems with stability with the USB.  I updated the drivers for the Renesas USB to the latest (2.1.39.0) from the station-drivers website,
I was thinking of grabbing the firmware update as well.  But I wasn't sure if I should.  The page also shows firmware updates for uPD720200 & uPD720200a, and I'm not sure which one is in my motherboard.  Should I update?  If so, which one is in my MB, uPD720200 or uPD720200a?
2) I'm also having trouble updating the Intel ME Driver and the Intel INF Update (although I'm googled that the INF update doesn't really matter).
3) I can't seem to get the firewire port working with my WD Home 2TB external HDD (it works through USB though).
4) I have an old internal flash card (SDHC/MS/MMC/etc.) reader from another desktop that I wanted to add to my MSI one.  Is it possible to do so?  Where would I plug it in?
5) Is there anything else I need to update: software or firmware?  I've generally updated the stuff listed in the Live Update (except for the stuff I never installed).
Thanks.  Please answer any of the questions if you can.

Update the firmware and re-test:
>>Firmware and BIOSes<<
Scroll to the bottom of the page at that link and flash the USB controller firmware.
Thanks, Renesas update seems to have taken.  Let's hope it's more stable.
I have a Core i5-2500k Sandybridge processor.  Is there a point to me updating the BIOS & Management Engine to the latest?  The support page for my MB says don't bother unless I have an Ivybridge processor?

What PC is the card reader from? Some of those card readers such as from Sony & Dell will only work in the respective brand PCs they came from and not any other. I have one I removed from a Sony and it will not work in my rig. If the card reader is a normal 3rd party model purchased from a store it should work but may require drivers from the manufacturer of it. As far as plugging in a card reader they go to an internal USB header on the MB.
The old desktop was from computer maker Cisnet.
I plugged the 5-hole (or rather 4 holes, since one is blank) plug into JUSB1, but it seems to keep connecting and disconnecting in Windows 7 x64. Windows made drives for all 4 card slots, but whenever I put a memory card in, it would just connect and disconnect and the memory card would never show up.  Is it a driver problem?
It's a Foxconn internal card reader, except I can't seem to figure out which model it is despite googling (not indicated anywhere on the card reader).
Don't really want to cough up $15-$20 for a new card reader, so I'm hoping to get this one to work.  Thanks.

  • My Satellite A100 does not support SDHC cards with the internal card reader

    Hi,
My satelite A100 does not support my sandisk 4 GB SDHC card.
"normal" SD cards are not a problem with the internal card reader, and there are no problems with the sandisk 4 GB SDHC card using a external card reader.
    is there a software solution?
    regrads,
    Itock

I do not have time to read users manuals for your notebook model but all supported cards can be listed there. I suppose SDHC is not listed and not supported.
I do not know what you mean with software solution but, as far as I know, update for multimedia card reader is not available.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums so pardon me if I'm doing this wrong or I'm in the wrong section.
I recently bought the P67A-G45 board in mid January.  Mainly, I wasn't having any problems, a few hiccups here and there which I solved by updating Bios/Chipset.  However, recently (past two-three weeks) I've been having troubles with Blue Screens.  These can occur anytime, sometimes while gaming, other times just browsing the web.  I have a few shots of the screens (bad quality, sorry):

Is this the Mobo?  I've searched around, the error of IRQL... I'm told can be nearly anything...
I'm starting to get slightly frustrated, so I'm hoping you guys can help.

Is it an IDE or SATA drive, you can check in devicemanager.

Edit:  It could be the hard drive.  Everything on this PC is nearly new (within 5 months) albeit the Hard drive.  Is there anyway to see if thats what is actually causing the blue screens?
Download HDtune and let it check the disk, if it bluescreens whilst checking, it is probably your drive, but, more importantly, its to see if there are damaged sectors and thus see the status of you HDD. If the disk is damaged, best to back up all important data and get a new HDD.
To read the minidump from the bluescreen, I use Bluescreenview, its free.
The stop code from the minidump can then be used to look up what it is, on Microsoft.com or Google.

  • What to do with bricked motherboard? MSI P67A-G45 AFTER FLASHING LAST BIOS

I flashed MSI P67A-G45 by the last BIOS for IB CPU. The flashing goes twice with intermediate reset. Before I flashed P67A-C43 by the same version from MSI, and all was Ok.
I flashed new BIOS from version 1I under DOS mode. There was a problem with pen drive and I used hard disk without USB pen drive. That was my error. The exe file started and flashed BIOS  normally and then after reset started flashing Intel ME firmware. I thought all is going ok and the image is taken from HDD. But after the process finished and motherboard reset, it didn't start at all. The fan starts and stops, LED blinks and motherboard behaves the same way even without CPU. What can I do? Is there any way, suppose, using a EEPROM writer? I have one and I can take the BIOS chip off and flash by old version of BIOS. What can You advise? Maybe the second flash process writes another chip - can You tell me about it. Please advise how to manage this problem.
I received no help from support. I'm not a novice - I work in repair center and have soldering station etc. Can You explain me anything about second flashing process? I need only information and I will be able to manage th :lol_anim:is problem.

Hi, I just bought all my parts for my new computer. Everything is working fine, except that I have some problem with two of my DIM slots. When I insert my RAM into the slots on the right side (near CD-ROM) the PC reboots each 3 second. Do you know what may cause the problem? Is it the slot problem or something with the BIOS settings?

But I can normally boot into the Windows, if it would be the CPU problem then I guess the pc wont boot. I will check it just to make sure and I will post the result.
It has been seen here on the forum a number of times that the system will run with bent or broken CPU socket pins. As suggested, if not done so yet, remove the CPU & inspect the CPU socket for bent pins.

  • What memory is 100% compatible with MSI P67A-G45?

I have some g.skill memory and there are issues using it with my MSI P67A-G45 as I cant adjust dram voltage. I know some of you have this board so what memory is working perfect and allows dram voltage and all others settings to be fully adjusted?

and do you really think 512mb and 1gb modules were tested on this P67 board?
Just posted a link to the modules list, nothing more. Made no recommendations & made no other assumptions. Selections & decisions are yours & yours alone.
Here is a suggestion however. Never a blanket guarantee, but I have yet to have the Corsair GT series fail to properly default or not work on any board I have tested. Whatever you purchase, make sure it properly defaults to the platforms IMC specs for DDR3 1333, 9 9 9 xx @ 1.50v's + or - 0.075v's. Plain stick, fancy heatspreaders doesn't matter. Compatible SPD profile programming does matter.

Problem: Within days of building computer in January the computer started to automatically reboot seconds after shutdown or entering sleep mode.
    Attempted Fixes:
-Total re-install of Windows + BIOS
    -Updated BIOS via LiveUpdate
-Rolled back to initial BIOS that came with MB
-Changed between registry option of "PowerdownAfterShutdown" between "0" and "1"
    -Disabled Wake-Up Events in BIOS
-Changed to OS controlled Wake-Up events
-Changed "Restore after AC Power Loss" to off in BIOS
-Ordered a new PSU, replaced PSU
Regardless the fix, if I try to shutdown - the computer reboots within a few seconds.  If I try to put it in sleep mode, it boots right back up.  The only way to get the computer to shut off is by manually turning off the PSU.
I've seen that there have been frequent power-cycle issues with this particular motherboard in comments on newegg.com, just wondering if this issue has been encountered and if there is a fix available?

Is this with no case wire connections to any of the headers? i.e. if you start it by shorting the on/off pin headers with a screwdriver tip.
    Yeah, as shown here.
    http://www.computer-how-to-guide.com/motherboard-troubleshooting/motherboard-post-test-how-to/
Shorted on with flathead, boots up fine.  After flipping off the PSU to turn it off and then flipping the PSU back on, the dang thing waits a few seconds and boots right back up.  No short required.  At this point I think a ghost might be living in my computer.

Hi, just got all components for my pc and i installed everything. My problem is wheni press the power switch, everything starts fine and the fans spin up and the LED's on the board are fine but after 4-5sec it shuts itself off and tries the exact same process again. To troubleshoot i removed RAM, Video card, HD... just have CPU, cpu fan but still getting same issue..
Here is the list of the components i have..

Sapphire Radeon Xtreme HD 5830 800MHZ 1GB 4GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E DVI HDMI Mini DisplayPort Video Card
here is a video i found... its similar to my problem

Straight power loop? Can't even get to BIOS?  if so could try resetting the CMOS, also try a different DIMM and/or GPU (even keyboard, had a couple post where the power loop ceased after unplugging the keyboard) and possibly best try a different higher powered PSU...if you can get into BIOS raising the vCore can help eliminate the loop problem, but still indicates something is wrong if it takes to much vCore for successful boot, with a 2500k should be able to boot and run stock at 1.19-1.21 for 3.3GHz

  • MSI P67A-G45 (B3) issues

Hey everyone I apologize in advance if this is long an rambling, but lack of sleep sucks  .
Need a lil help before I get to drastic and decide to end my PC's life. Up till around 12:00 pm est yesterday my PC was working great, then my new Corsair H80i came in and I decided to do some very late spring cleaning(disassembled and dusted entire thing with canned air.), then cleaned off the old tg from the cpu re-seated and started installing the rest of the components. When it powered the problem occurred. It didn't come on an go off in a loop as I have read in other post, it came on an stayed on but the issue is I'm not seeing any indication of activity on the HDD (it is powered up) nor is there a video signal. It has the cpu power phase led's on the board and only one of those is coming on instead of all four. From reading the manual there wasn't much indication on what one light meant. Another quirk i noticed is that when it powered on my keyboard's led come on an quickly go back off an stay off till I turned the pc off an then back on.  I did try the following:
Removed an powered on using one stick of mem, then tried with no mem installed. Still one cpu phase light both times.
Powered on with out HDD, still one light.
Removed all components including mobo from  case and checked stand-off mounts..looks fine.
Performed a CMOS reset, still one light.
Pulled the vid card, again the same.
At this point I'm running out of patience. I know I probably haven't tried everything, but I'm at a loss for what to do next. I just wish there was better clarification on those cpu power phase led's in the manual. As i said before it only lights up one and that's it and there is nothing I can find that explains what that means, if it means anything and don't forget there is no vid signal so I have no clue to what if anything is going on during POST.

Do you now have the MB out of the case? i.e. did you test it outside the case placing it on a non conducting surface?
Did you ensure all your power cables are properly plugged back in. i.e. the 24pin and also the CPU power plug.
You mounted a new cooler, did you ensure that you didn't put undue pressure on the CPU thereby bending some CPU socket pins?
Did you recheck the RAM slots for any lodged foreign matter?
Did you check your power cables feeding the HDD?
Can you test with another PSU?
Did you do CMOS clear with battery removed?
I did not try it out of the case. I will definitely give that a shot.
I double checked all my power cables
The cooler used thumb screws and I just hand tightened them. I will check again to see if anything happened to the pins, couldn't hurt.
I didn't notice anything in the RAM slots but again I should double check.
The power cable feeding to the HDD are seated snugly and I did pull an re-seat to make sure.
I sure wish i had a spare PSU. Guess i learned my lesson to have a back-up on hand just in case.
I did not clear the CMOS with the battery out, instead I used the button that was located on the back panel.
I appreciate the recommendations and will try out the ones that i can do. As far as the PSU I'll have to make some calls but that sounds like a good idea to try. It may be awhile till I can try anything, but as soon as I do and see any results I will let you know. Thank you for the feedback.

  • Help needed, new pc stopped booting properly after 2 days msi p67a-g45

Hi I need help quick, I recently built a new pc and all was going well sofar but now it wont boot up properly, it keeps resetting before the boot post tests and the times it does go through to the tests the internal speaker does 2 beeps, waits a second, 2 more beeps, waits a second, 3 quick beeps and then finally after another second 1 final loud beep.  Also when I'm running my memory test (doing atm, I think it crashed though) the lights on my keyboard are continusly flickering.
    Any help would be greatful
    My specs:
    Intel i5 2500k (not overclocked)
    8GB ram
650w corsair power supply (had this for a few years and worked fine sofar)
    msi gtx 570 oc
    msi p67a-g45 motherboard
    crucial m4 64gb ssd
    2*1tb samsung hardrives

Ok I just tried messing around with the computer it seems that the 2 sets of 3 quick beeps are for the number of usb devices Ive got attached to the computer, their is still 2 normal beeps before the 1 loud beep so I'm not sure what they mean as I tried replacing all the parts and it seems to do the same beeps.
Quote from: Bernhard on 11-May-11, 11:12:09
Have you tried with only one memory module on the board ?
yep just tried that, they both seem to pass seperatly and together as they make no changes to the number of beeps, the ram should of also been 100% tested by mushkin in the factory so I dont think they may be the problem
Quote from: Bernhard on 11-May-11, 11:12:09
What is a few years, and under what usage pattern and load ? PSUs don't last forever. Suggest you also test with a known good PSU of similar output to determine if there is a potential PSU problem.
Ive had the psu for around 2 years and it coped with me setting the computer to run on a full load test with 3dmarks and prime95 for a few hours along with me having a normal gaming session on it. I cant test the computer with any other psu's atm as I got none spair to use.
Hopefully it was just the cmos being corrupted as resetting that seems to have fixed it, but it annoying not knowing what them 2 beeps are before the loud beep (which I guess is the all ok beep) is though.

My friend recently purchased a second GTX 460 SE to use in SLI.  I installed it in his computer today and could not get SLI to function.  Operating system is windows 7.  I flashed the bios with the latest version as well as installed the latest drivers for the motherboard.  Tried reseating the graphics cards and the  SLI bridge multiple times.  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers multiple times, each time using driver sweeper after the uninstall.  I have read that this board does support SLI if you have all the drivers updated.  Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: Forgot to add that both the cards do work.  I can switch the monitor between them and they work fine.  The nvidia control pannel and device manager show 2 cards but not in SLI.

Hello folks, I just replaced an MSI P43-C51 LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard, with an MSI P67A-G45 (B3) and an I5 2500k, running everything at default settings, the p-43 board gave me good service but one day, I turn the computer on and it didn't do anything, since LGA 775 boards are getting hard to find I went ahead and got the P-67, the issue I have is the same high temperature on TMPIN02, before I took the heatsink off the temp was getting up to 203c I couldn't believe the board didn't fail at that time, I went ahead and remove all 3 heatsinks (the ones around the CPU socket also) and inspected for thermal grease, well I noticed that it looked like chewing gum and that it was solidified and that there was very little coverage on the actual chip. I went ahead and cleaned the old stuff and used Arctic Cooling paste I keep in my tool bag, put it all together and fire it up the NB temp drop to (idle) 50c which is a lot better under load it goes up to 65-70c I have moved the video card to the second pci-e slot to see if more air will flow in the NB area but then 3 of the 4 SATA connectors are covered up by it, I also adjusted the rmps of the front fan (200mm) but is not making a big difference, so I'm really happier with the results but not entirely happy, my brother is going on his 3rd motherboard (MSI) first one would not boot, second one no video output to monitor I'm not sure if I want to consider MSI products in the near future. I have been a loyal MSI customer for many years. I would appreciated any comments to this post I know is a little old.

But what else can I do, besides updating Bios to get out of this Live update from start-up.
    Should I clear CMOS?

13mb are you really sure ?
    go here instead.

the download file is around 300kb.
make sure you get the right file.
you did not specify if you got L or ILRS.
    also dont use live update.
    get drivers from http://www.nvidia.com instead.

  • Problem with an update page.

I have a problem with an update page on my website
    Here's how it work
values are defualted in from the advert table  - this works fine
I should then be able to change the fields and click on the update button
This works fine but ONLY when the O_year field is populated.
There doesn't seem to be anything special about the O_year field
I thought spry text validation would of been causing the issues, but I removed them and have the same problem.
For some reason the POST_MMupdate value is not being set to 'form4', which it is doing if O_year is set.
Please can someone have a look at this, code,
Also, is there a way of 'stepping through' dreamweaver code to debug it?
