MSI P67A-GD55 B3 cannot detect Solid State Drive
Hello Everyone!
I bought and installed a MSI P67A-GD55 B3, very happy about it, all perfect, with the exception that it cannot detect the Solid State Drive (OCZ SATA II --> Vertex 2).
The standard Hard disk (SATA II as well) works fine ...
Anyone with the same problem? Any Idea?
Thanks!

Did you try going to the bios and going to onboard chipset for sata and put in AHCI mode for sat type. This has to be done for the SSD Drive to respond. Hope this helps
Not true, a working SSD will be identified by the BIOS regardless of what mode the SATA controller is set to.

Satellite Pro S300 EZ1514 - Cannot initialize Solid State Drive (SSD)
I have a Satellite Pro S300 EZ1514.
Recently I purchased a SATA II Cavalry 64GB SSD to replace the current hard drive. First I tried to install XP with SATA drivers streamlined in.
The install process recognized the SSD and did the initial file copy to it, but when it restarted to continue the install process the system would not boot from the drive.
Then I tried installing Vista Business 64 from the recovery disk that came with the laptop.
After initiating the recovery disk, the install process said the hard drive was not Initialized and to click OK to initialize now.
After clicking OK to initialize the system restarted only to end up on the same screen telling me to initialize the hard drive.
Then I tried to initialize the drive manually off of my desktop.
Plugged it into my desktop, initialized it and formatted it to NTFS. Plugged it back into the laptop to try Vista recovery again. And yet again the same screen shows up. Plugged the SSD back into the desktop only to find that the drive was no longer initialized and had to be initialized again.
Then I gave up and installed the SSD to my desktop as primary boot and it installed perfectly fine with XP. For testing purposes I then put the ssd with the pre-installed XP back into the laptop to see what happens. To my dismay the laptop would not boot and on top of that when I put the SSD back into the desktop only to find that the drive was no longer initialized and I had to reinstall XP again.
Conclusion:
It seems that the Satellite Pro S300 series is not SSD friendly and just the post it self de-initializes the Solid State Drives.
This seems like the logical conclusion as the SSD works perfectly fine on my desktop and the laptop is fine now with the old spinning hard drive back in.
Anyone else have this problem or a solution?
I would still like to put the SSD into my laptop for power saving.Im using AHCI mode, but for testing I tried both and neither one worked. My bios is already up to the latest version and unfortunately the Cavalry site does not have any firmware updates yet. Again I don't think the drive is bad cuz it works perfectly fine on a desktop that had the same intel chip set and SATA controller. I think it's the custom boot agent that Toshiba uses at boot. Anyone know how to disable that agent and the intel boot agent as well? I read somewhere that the agents are not needed for the boot process and that in some cases they do cause issues like mine.

MSI P67A-GD55 Blue Screen at Shut Down or changing users
Blue Screen happens at shut down, not always, sometimes frequently but later stabilizes for a while. Computer is stable when it is working, not sudden blue screen, only happens at shutting down.

I suggest that you test with one piece of RAM at a time. It may be a RAM problem.
Do post the code of the BSOD here to let us identify what the exact problem may be.
Hi, I already have two .dmp files but I don't know how to insert them in the message or open them to see the contents.

Toshiba Solid State Drive Not Detected
Sony Ultrabook Model: SVT131B11L
Micro Toshiba Solid State Drive 256 GB
Laptop can not find the OS anymore, Hard Drive not being detected in BIOS.
Able to remove the Micro SSD and connect it externall to a computer.
Any recomendations on how to extract the Data?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.
If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

MSI GX720 and 32GB MLC Mini PCIe Solid State Drive
I know that there is a spot on my motherboard inside my laptop for 32GB MLC Mini PCIe Solid State Drive, has anyone tried installing one and successfully installed an OS? thanks for the replies.
I thought you just put one in where you normally put a wireless network card. There is two slots for mini pcie on the MB. This is not a typical ssd drive. It is one that go in the netbooks.

What is largest solid state drive I can install in MacBook Pro 8,2? I want to perform a clean install of Mavricks and dump my old hard drive.
If the bank account permits, I suggest getting a 1 TB SSD anyway. One cannot have too much storage.
Unless you are having issues with your current installation, a 'clean' install is not necessary. It would be more efficient to clone your current drive to the new SSD, test it, and then do the swap. The installation of Mavericks over Snow Leopard can be done either before or after the cloning process.

Can I put a SATA 3 Solid State Drive in my Compaq Presario CQ57-447SI?
I would like to upgrade my Compaq Presario CQ57-447SI and replace the hard drive with a solid state drive. I'm considering the OCZ-Vertex-4 2.5 inch SATA 3 Solid State Drive (128GB) but I'm not sure if this will be compatible with my notebook?
Hi:
If a SATA II drive is a lot less, then probably yes.
Notebook specs are very sketchy.
The chipset may be capable of SATA III transfer speeds, but HP may not have SATA III controllers on the motherboard.
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/value-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm65.html
As you can see from the specs at the link above, the chipset has 2 SATA III ports and 6 SATA II ports.
You would think that HP would hook up the primary SATA AHCI controller to one of the 2 SATA III ports, but that may not be the case.
That is the best I can do for you since I don't have your notebook and cannot confirm the speed the drive runs at.
So, if there is not much of a difference in price, I would take a gamble on the SATA III SSD.

Setting Up SSD Solid State Drive for Cache...Help!
Hello,
I am trying to configure my system to do really heavy special effects using After Effects and other programs. I bought a new computer with specs below and a Solid State Drive for the cache as recommended in the White Papers. I plug the SSD into a port on top of the machine. I must have it configured wrong because I keep getting the message "disk cache folder cannot be the root of a volume." I don't know how to configure this correctly so my work will use the SSD properly. Can someone walk me through this? Nicole The SSD is a Seagate SSHD 1TB hybrid drive that is supposed to boot and perform like an SSD. The motherboard is an Asus X79 and the processor is an i7 4820k (Ivy Bridge E) Thanks!

Optimisation -Solid state drives

Description:
The volume System Reserved was not optimised because an error was encountered: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)
Should the system on Windows 8.1 try to optimise a solid state drive?
Hope this helps, GerryThis issue could be caused if Defragment take operation on SSD. And as we know SSD cannot be defragged.
I just want to mention that the above statement is not accurate as written.
The general wisdom is that one SHOULD not defrag an SSD. That's different than "cannot".
A file system indeed can be defragmented on any drive, including an SSD, though common wisdom is that the payback in performance to doing so is negligible, so doing a defragment operation just wears out the flash memory without any
real benefit.
Defragmenting the file system can ensure the data is read using fewer low level operations - i.e., a big block of data can be read in one contiguous chunk instead of several smaller chunks. Even as efficient as the most modern SSDs are, with near-zero
seek time, it DOES take some time for the operating system to prepare SATA commands and get them out to the drive across whatever busses and controllers are in place.
The difference in file system performance between a fragmented file system and a defragmented one can literally be hundreds of megabytes per second or even gigabytes per second when RAID is involved and the SATA link isn't a bottleneck. I
call your attention to the ATTO benchmark, which measures performance at various read sizes.
Therefore there is some current debate on whether an occasional (e.g., once a year) defrag on an SSD can optimize performance enough that it could actually be a good thing to do.
That said, with Windows 8 I'm not sure Microsoft's tools can actually be coaxed into doing a defrag on a (properly recognized) SSD. It was possible in Windows 7.

External solid state drive for scratch disk?
After doing everything i can find to optimize my hardware/software for doing 3D animation in Ps Ext CS6. I still cannot render an animation to video using the Ray Traced Final setting. (Ray Traced Draft, no problem.) The last time I tried (after repairing disk permissions), at least Ps did not crash and give me the same old crash report (Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000007a0020000). This time I just got an error msg that my request could not be completed. (Progress?) Checking Activity Monitor, I could see that my available RAM, which was 13 GB when I started the render was now less than 1 GB (761 MB).
So, I have come to the conclusion that my 16 GB of RAM and 300 GB available for virtual memory on my HD is not enough for rendering the type of 3D animation I am trying to do. Would you agree? Also, I have read it is not good to use the same HD your program is installed on for a scratch disk, so I am considering getting an external solid state drive to use as a scratch disk.
Whaddaya think? Does this sound like a good solution for me?
Thanks!

Gunn GraphicsChris, here is the most recent one from right after I added the additional scratch drive. Thanks for taking a look at it!

T61 and Solid State Drive Upgrade -- Questions
Solid State Drive prices are going southwards, and I am tempted to explore the possibility of upgrading the existing internal hard drive with a solid sate one (as and when 128 GB SSD become available) in my T61.
My questions are:
1. Is it possible to upgrade to these devices?
2. Would there be any gain in battery life? How much is it likely?
3. Would there be any performance gain?
4. What are the pitfalls?

ThinkPad T61, (7658CTO), T7500, Integrated Graphics, 320 GB HDD, 3 GB RAM, 1 GB Intel Turbo Memory, Vista (32 bit) BusinessSolid state drives have yet to become a worthwhile venture as their use in high end computing has not yet been proven. One of the biggest problems with SSD's is the fact that they cannot come to par with traditional drives in terms of random write speeds. Most people take a performance hit with these types of drives except for the exception of one company, which has gotten speeds up to traditional drive speeds.
However, sequential read and write speeds are marginally faster than traditional drives, which gives u a boost on boot, which is noticably faster. For most business users, the upgrade to an SSD will not yield any tangible results except when transferring bulk files back and forth, at which point one would notice a significant performance hit. Regarding battery life, the first time I used a SSD, it didn't help with battery life at all that was noticable. However, it was well worth the upgrade as it made the laptop literally silent and cool. It's surprising how much sound hard drives make these days ....
My two cents is that the SSD is really an expensive looks-only aesthetic mod but in terms of CG heavy users - not worth it yet unless you can run it in RAID 0 or 5 with 4+ drives, bringing performance quite up to par. At that point, a desktop machine running RAM drives from Gigabyte might even be better....

What are the advantages of a solid state drive?
I was considering upgrading to a solid state drive in my Mac Mini, but was wondering what all the advantages are. Does it mainly deal with boot times, or does it actually make programs run faster? The reason I ask is most videos I see only show boot times, and also I was under the impression that once a program is up and running it uses RAM to operate more than it does the hard drive.
So is a Solid State Drive worth it in terms of speed, beyond just boot times?
Thanks in advance for any insight. The Fusion Drive that came in my Mac Mini from the factory is a combination of a 128GB SSD and 1TB HD, but OS X treats the two as a single device. OS X has long had a feature where the most active files are moved to that part of the drive that has the fastest access times. That offered some improvment in disk I/O. In the case of the Fusion drive, the fast part of the drive is de-facto the SSD portion of the combination. In theory the Fusion Drive provides the speed of an SSD with the relatively low cost capacity of the HD. In practice, and after some runtime experience where the OS measures file activity and moves the most active files to the SSD there is an obvious improvement in overall system performance and the cost is bearable.
Kevin Fromcamarillo mentioned the OWC upgrade and IMO it is a good one. There are articles around that will tell you how to format and configure an SSD and HD to be a Fusion drive. I have not tried that so I cannot say whether it is as good as the Apple factory Fusion drive or not. Personally I think the Fusion drive concept is like a hybrid automobile. An intermediate step until technology brings the cost down and capacity up enough to make them fully competitive. That time is coming sooner rather than later. Notice Appe is not even offering HDs on some models and instead going to all SSD. I don't think it will be too long before I am tryng to move my Fusion drive into an external enclosure and replacing it with a high capacity SSD.
A caveat with the Fusion drive. If you use third party volume repair and maintenance utilities, be absolutely sure the version you hvae is certivied compatible with a Fusion drive. Even when apps are certified compatible, that compatibility may not indlude all of their functions.
