  • MSI P965 NEO-F and power supplys

Hello, I just bought the MSI P965 NEO-F and Cooler Master iGreen 500W but when, after I unpacked it all and was about to start building, I discovered that in the manual, under the power supply tab, it says that this moderboard requires a power supply that comes with a -5V pin supply. I didn't see that when I looked in the online manual.
However, when I looked in the PSU manual I saw that there should be a -5V pin in pinnr. 20 on the ATX connector. So I was relieved. But when I looked at the ATX connector there was an empty hole where pinnr. 20 were supposed to be.  Does that mean that I can't use the power supply with this moderboard?

hmm...you could replace your brand new PSU with another PSU? i don't know in your country, but here, we're allowed to replace bought items (no refund though, just replace) to another item of equal or higher value (but add money for higher value, of course )
i'm using the Hec Winpower 550W PSU on that same motherboard, and is working fine for me.
otherwise, you could go to your local PC store and have them plug everything for you? (here it costs around US $6 to ask someone to assemble everything)

  • MSI P965 Neo-F and a other problem!

    Hi alls!
I have a problem with my MSI P965 Neo-F.In fact when i push the power button i have to wait 5-6 secondes for my pc turn on...
I have the same problem that Er.nest:https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107722.0 (problem number 5)
    My PSU is a Seasonic S12 II 500 W
    My config is :
    Core 2 Duo 6600 @ 2.40Ghz
    2 Gb RAM DDR 667 Mhz Corsair(5-5-5-15 @1.85V)
ATI HD 2900 XT 512 Mb
    HD Seagate 320 Gb
    Thanks...

ok v1.10 .. so we have same version now.. (maybe it will help us to find somthing helpful)
So (i dont know if you know somthing about..let me to refresh about S3).. S3 is one of two most used sleep modes. S3 (STR) - Save to RAM. It save whole your session to RAM, clear the CPU registrers and turn of all devices in computer one by one... only matherboard is powered by minumal voltage of 5V. This is used to refreshing o RAM and keep content "inside". In this state is consuption of computer avg. 4-6W (...PSU).  Ok, my problem is ...
When i want to wake my computer up (a do it by pushin power button) ... somthing (and i dont know which part of my machine).. cause frozen of whole machine. Sometimes i get Windows Vista login window (loggin button fully response to mouse move over), if i want to login windows fall into BSOD or all freeze... somtimes i get only black screen.
So .. it seems to be little bit different problem but we both have problems with some kind of turning on...please, try to describe more about your problem. Espesialy informations about other behavior...
for example ... if you using hybernation (possibly S3), if you turning your computer normal by windows option "turn off", if your problems dissapear when you discharge mobo from static charge (disconect power cord, and push power button), if you have other problem with restarts...
i have same problem like you before i come to v1.9 and higher ... so, maybe its only in some setting i made insensible

    I've got question.
When I look at the spec from my new xfx geforce 9600gt xxx card I see PCIe x16 2.0
Will this card work on my motherboard ? because when I look at the spec of my board I can see that there is 1 PCIe x16 slot and no 2.0
    Will it work?

check Amperage on +12V rails (you sum up 2 rails)
Simply adding the amperage values if there are multiple +12V rails is not the right approach to determine the maximal amperage limits for all +12V rails. You cannot simply sum up the two rails.  On many PSUs, the combined amperage limit is significantly lower than the sum of the individual rails.  Look at this example for instance:
If you add the amperage values on both rails together, you get 34A.  However, the limit for both +12V rails (as stated on the PSU sticker) is 250W which can be broken down to  250W / 12V ~ 20.8A.  So what we have here is a 20.8A limit on a +12V rail that is split into two individual rails that each have their own amperage limit.  You can put 16A or 18A load on the individual rails, but not more that ~20A combined load on both.  That means that if the system draws 15A from one of the rails, only ~5A are left for the other one.

He did not mention which model he is referring to, so I am not sure if I checked the correct specs.  Here is a link to the Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 400W (RS-400-PCAR/PCAP-A3) for comparison:
    http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&tbcate=22&id=3765
As you can see, we have two +12V rails (16A/18A) and a combined limit aif 280W [280W / 12V ~ 23A] ... not 16A + 18A = 34A(!).  Of course 23A could be be enough to power a core 2 duo and a 9600GT but we are most probably approaching the limit of the PSU here.  He did not mention the number of optical drives, hard drives and fans connected to the system.  Each of these devices is powered by the +12V rails as well and will have their share of resources.

This is my first post so hello all.
I am going to buy a MSI P965 Neo-F motherboard for my custom build computer.
    I have a question.
The Mushkin Hp2-5300 High Performance Ram needs 1.9v of Power and has CL 4-4-4-10 Timings.
I was wandering if it will work on the MSI motherboard.
    Best regards,

  • MSI P965 Neo-F and Voltage

    Hello
    I'm french and i need help about my mainboard:MSI P965 Neo-F!
On Speed Fan i can see for the V-Core Value :1.42 v...
But my CPU (Core 2 Duo 6600 @2.40 Ghz) burn so much i want to change the v-core from 1.40 to 1.3V...
But on the bios (1.10 version of 5 July 2007) i don't see any maner to change the v-core value...
    Can you help me please?
    Thanks

As we already said, your Board does not have a VCore option in BIOS.  Therefore it is very unlikely that you will be able to change the Core Voltage using software.
However, you may want to try your luck with one of the following utilitys:
    http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml
    http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php#about
I seriously doubt that they will help you.  I have seen many users asking for ways to change the core voltage on this mainboard in different forums.  Until now I do not remember any positive response to this question.
When I look at my VCore values @346 MHz FSB with C1E-Support enabled and VCore set to "Auto" in BIOS, I get numbers between 1.144V (IDLE) and 1.24V (LOAD).  I am not sure if there is anything wrong with your CPU and/or board or not, but as long as your core temps stay below 60°C your are on the safe side.
You may try the following if you want:
    - disconnect main A/C power cable from PSU
    - hit the power-on button a few times to drain capacitors
    - press the Clear CMOS button for 3 seconds
After that re-connect PSU, start your system, enter BIOS and load optimized defaults.  Go through your BIOS settings and make sure they match your system configuration before your save and exit.
Check with CPU-Z again and see if there are any changes.

  • Best Ram for MSI P965 Neo-F

    Hi
I've a MSI P965 Neo-F and i want to know what is the best DDR 2 Memory for this motherboard(G-Skill,Crucial or OCZ?).
Actually i' ve Corsair DDR 2 667 Mhz Value Select.
    Thanks^^

Actually Corsair does'nt work good with my PC(no boot sometimes) so i don't want Corsair...
I'm not saying buy Corsair, I am telling you to buy WINTEC AMPO  240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 800. I have read all the horror stories about different ram and the Neo f. I installed 2gb [2x 1 gb] when i made the computer a couple years ago and just added the same thing 1 week ago and never a single problem. It still only reads as 3.25gb but that has been explained. Fast and stable memory with this board is hard to find, so trust me and buy this ram . it worked perfect for me so I don't see why it wouldn't work for you.

  • P965 Neo-F and Core 2 Duo E6750 ... #@?!

So this topic is about combination MSI P965 Neo-F and Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 processor ...
question is ... is this combination possible ?
... its possible to BIOS 1.10 has support for E6750 ?
... ... its possible to eat bannana each day without consequences ?

hmm :-( so ... thank you for answers
what i can say now ... i made my own research
    NovJoe:  .. P965 Neo-F ... no P965 Neo-F V2 ...
Maesus: i trying to be friendly to each user here ... but i can be little bit sarcastic when i talking about P965 Neo-F, because this mobo is simply not well designed (i have almost one year experience with this mobo ... please accept it ... i am serious and not angry, hostile or "firebrandy")
Quote from: Maesus on 31-July-07, 13:28:00
The answer is NO. Does NOT support.
OK, thanks for link ... i see this before of course ... and look at right top corner - there is "Since BIOS Version 1.9". So we can click to BIOS tab on this site and we will see this "Version 1.10 Update Date 2007-07-05"...
(i hope you see the diference...i really asking for somthing for what i not found answer in this forum or old MSI papers)
So its on me to explain why i opened this thread ... there is place for others who HAVE this mobo and tryed BIOS v1.10 (and newer versions in future) and has any experience with this etc etc.. or directly with E6750 (or simply 1333Mhz cpus). Without rant... without voodoo...
RemusM: Many thanks to you for not attacking me ... again and again i found your replies verry useful a serious (and with sense for humor... good thing i mean)
to your answer ... ok. I know that owners of this board have problem to reach 333Mhz on FSB (base frequency - needed to 1333Mhz cpus) and 1333Mhz is not supported (like in cases of many other boards .. for example Neo-F Platinum).
P965 Platinum is able to run this processor ..
    Neo-F V2, Neo2 ...(sometime also called Neo-FI, Neo2-F V2, Neo2-FI etc etc) ... are also now able to run with E6750
And this mobos aren't originaly designed for this purposes...
... now, do you see what i mean? ... its about future support ...
will have this mobo in future support for 1333Mhz ? It is possible ?
but i have bad feeling that this mobo is mistake and MSI know it (Neo2 is proof for me) ... and support will silently die ...

  • MSI P965 Neo-F mobo and ASUS EAH4850/HTDI 512MB

Hi I have the MSI P965 neo-f motherboard and I am interested in buying a new graphic card for my computer. But I am concerned about compatibility issues of my motherboard with different graphics cards. Currently I am interested in buying the ASUS EAH4850/HTDI 512MB graphic. Does anybody knows if my motherboard will work with this card? Did someone had any issues.
    Thanks in advance,
    phanosp

    Hi NovJoe,
Thanks for the reply. As far I can tell the card is backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0. I just wanted to ask if someone has actually used this card with my mobo to make sure that there are no compatibility issues.
    Thanks,

    Dear All,
I've got an info from one of MSI Engineers for the DDR 800MHz RAMs support for MSI P965 Neo-F mainboard.
There'll be a BIOS v1.40 that enables the mainboard to support 1GB DDR 800MHz modules.
Another upcoming BIOS v1.50 will fixed the 2GB limitation on the board, allowing the board to run up to 4GB of DDR 800MHz RAMs.
I'll update this thread on any upcoming details that I can get.
I can't confirm when the BIOS will be officially released so please kindly have the patience to wait.

  • MSI P965 Neo-F (MS-7235) problem booting from USB flash drive

    Hi, all!
I was wondering if someone can help me. I am trying to install Windows 7 x64 on my 320GB HDD that is connected to my MSI P965 Neo-F (MS-7235) mobo (The CPU is a Core2Duo 6600 with 6GB of RAM). I created a bootable USB 8GB flash drive using Microsoft's "Windows 7 DVD USB Download Tool" and bootsect.exe (Needed to create a boot sector on the USB drive) from the MS store. I successfully tested the resulting bootable USB drive using freeware MobaLiveCD (Sorry, you'll have to Google "mobalivecd" since this forum doesn't seem to allow external links) running under Windows XP SP3 x86 (32bit). Under MobaLive's QEMU, Windows 7 setup loaded its files and produced an error message basically saying that it could not install Windows 7 x64 under an x86 OS (No surprise there since QEMU is emulating a 32bit processor - The point is that the bootable USB drive I created works).
I then went into my mobo's CMOS and under Advanced BIOS Features -> Boot Sequence -> 1st Boot Device, set the value to "USB-HDD" and rebooted my machine. The USB drive probably was not detected by the mobo under that setting because it proceeded to boot from my HDD which is the 2nd Boot Device. I repeated the same process using each one of the  four USB ports in the rear of the mobo (I don't have the optional USB panel that the MSI users manual mentions) to no avail. I also tried setting the 1st Boot Device to "USB-FDD" and repeated the process for each USB port but the mobo still will not boot from the USB drive (It does not recognize it). When I set the 1st Boot Device to "USB-ZIP" and rebooted, the mobo hangs after "Verifying DMI Pool Data ..." which is no surprise since I am not using a USB ZIP drive but a USB flash drive. It appears that under that setting, it recognizes that there is a USB device attached but it is expecting a response (From a USB ZIP drive). I had no idea it would be this frustrating to boot from a USB flash drive! If anyone knows how to make this mobo boot from a USB flash drive, please let me know. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The P965 Neo motherboard is 8 years old, so don't expect miracles. .... You need to format the USB stick in the proper way. You may use this utility to do it: hxxp://www.prime-expert.com/flashboot/ Also, it's a good idea to use the first (USB0) connector (controlled by Intel ICH8) for the USB flash drive. Good luck.
Thank You for your fast response, RemusM!
I'm not looking for a miracle. I'm just looking for a mobo that does what it is supposed to do: Allow me to boot from a USB flash drive (I don't think that is too much to ask for even from a board that was made in 2006)!
Thanks for recommending FlashBoot. I see under their "Why FlashBoot" section that it "... does not shift to user the burden of choice between "USB-ZIP" and "USB-HDD" at format time and proper BIOS setup at boot time. ... and every USB disk is formatted in such way that it will work in every environment properly, regardless of current BIOS setting.", so I will give it a try and let you know about the results afterwards.

  • MSI P965 Neo-F reboot problems

    Hi,
I have a MSI P965 Neo-F motherboard in my PC, everything works great except for one thing, rebooting.
When i reboot or reset, it shuts down the operating system/BIOS, after that the PC stays on but my screen stays black.
    Does anyone know a solution?
    Thank you,

    I dont know solution ...
i see the problem in mobo or revision of P965 itself ... there is many problems with restarts, reboots, first boot. It depend on version of BIOS you have, but i not found any version which solve this for me ...
i using v1.9 now ... and i have problem with boot after hybernation with vista..
after turning my computer off (in vista is normal to hybernate and shut down) i can boot my computer .. by its very strange. So, power comes up, but then instantly comes Windows Vista with logon screen - NO posting by BIOS, no RAID initial screen, no scaning for hardware... it comes instantly to windows - but windows are in some inconsistent state and i cant login (freeze/BSOD ... but pointer can be moved by mouse and login button shows efect if i move pointer over - so windows are in memory and working) ... in this state is HDD led all time ON (shining) ... i can shut down and boot up again and everything is OK (windows are normaly restored from disk)
with older v1.5 BIOS ... my computer goes to same state like is described here - BLANK ... and BIOS setting was reseted

  • Does the MSI P965 Neo-F support ECC memory?

    Can it handle 2x 1 GB DDR2 ELPIDA PC2-5300, 667 MHz, ECC
Does the MSI P965 Neo-F support ECC memory?

As mentioned by many, No ECC RAMs support.
To me, I feel that current state of art DDR II RAMs are good enough to not produced much errors and HDDs have error buffer memory of up to 16MB, so ECC makes me feels that it is a "good to have but not a must" thing nowdays.

  • MSI P965 Neo PCI-e lock?

    Hi!
could any of you tell me whether or not the MSI P965 Neo-F board has an option to lock the PCI-e clock?
My plan is to tweak the FSB to 333 (which implicates a 333/266 = 25% overclock), which I've read is more then easy to obtain with a Core 2 Duo 6300. I just don't wanna ruin the rest of the system by getting a PCI-e busspeed of 125.
So I'm really curious if this board has either a build-in lock @ 100/101, or some option in the BIOS to lock the bus.
    Thanks!

well you could just try raising your fsb to 333Mhz and see what happens. done it with mine no problems at all no other tweeking either. lots n lots of people have done the same without a problem.
check out the overclocking and modding forum here, n see for yourself.
