MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 TV-OUT problem (overscan?)

Hello!
I have a very annoying problem with my MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 graphics adapter / tv-card combo. I use it as a HTPC, record tv, play music and watch dvd and digital video. I use bsplayer to view digital video and it works fine.
But when I try to watch dvd's in full screen with my 16:9 32" Sony, I think the card overscans the image and big partitions from upper & lower screen are not displayed. This is especially annoyting, because I use subtitles. The lower line of the subtitles is 2/3 hidden when I view dvd in full screen on the tv, and I believe this is because the overscan "zooms" the view over-screen.
As said this problem does not exists with digital video (mpeg, avi or what ever), only with dvd-disks. I have tried three different dvd-player softwares, so the problem is not with the software. I have tried WinDVD, PowerDVD etc. The problems persists.
I can negate the problem by useing two displays, entering the screen settings in TFT desktop and using the - button to zoom the tv image into smaller - but you can imaginate this is very annoying. Even when I save the setting, it resets when I start viewing a new dvd and I have to zoom it again to fit into the viewable area of the television. When I am using the TV as single display I cannot even do this - because the "overscan" problem happens only when playing full-screen dvd (not on desktop or any other full-screen image).

MSI finally replied to my questions regarding this problem. Without answering the question directly here is what they have to say:
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
There is no need to install nvidia standard VGA driver (eg . 56.64 or 53.03) . Therefore, please try to reinstall OS, for Personal Cinema FX5200-VT128 driver, please refer to http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/dr...ail.php?UID=459 for driver and patch and capture driver.
Thank you for supporting MSI product. Please feel free to let us know if you still have any further issues or inquiries.
Best regards,
MSI Technical Support
I'd already reinstalled my OS (WinXP Home sp1) and then reintalled Personal Cinema v2.25 from the MSI disc and the display driver from the second disc I got with the card, v45.33. This seems to have solved the problem for me. Not so far removed from what MSI are suggesting, so it seems that whichever way you go, you must reinstall your OS. That ain't so bad. It's reinstalling everything else which takes the time.
Good luck to you all.

We need a little more info than that if you want anything remotely helpful from anyone here.
Take a look at some of the thread in here and notice the signature that most users have you can edit it in your profile information.
Then provide some info on what you did or the process in wich you installed the drivers and the utilities.
If you have a dual boot setup did you use the latest drivers for each OS?

  • Personal Cinema FX5200

    Hi,
A customer bought an personal cinema in my shop, but now he want's to connect his coax-tv cable to the personal cinema card but he can't browse channels.
I haven't workt with the card yet, so I've got no clue on how to solve it, or how to configure the card that it works with an TV-Cable.
Could anyone help me and explain me how to configure it or give me a link to a manual that explains how to make it work with a coax-tv-cable.
I'm hoping that someone could give me a quick answer because I want to help that customer asap.
    Thx In Advance.

    Regards from Sweden Guys,
Same problem here! I have W2k and I at least got the remote to function as a cordless mouse. The channel selector doesn't work, the text TV buttons don't work, none of it works and to make it more frustration, if I used the mouse function to start the recording button, I got simply horrible video recordings, go figure...
I am getting excelent video recording now, no stutttering, no sync problems, just a great picture. I junked the uLead and the WinDVR programs and I use iuVCR or Virtual VCR to record a TV program in AVI format using Huffyuv codec, then I take TMPG to compress an 80 gig 2 hour film to 4 gig. Works great now!

  • Personal Cinema FX5200 128MB

I am a new user of this card.  I bought with hopes of watching taped TV programs on a near-by TV.  The card records great.  I love the schedule feature of WinTV.  However, using the brakout box (RCA cables- not S-video) to connect to my TV gives no video.  All video is fine on PC monitor.  I have upgraded to Win media player 9.  Any other ideas?  Thanks.

i am getting same problem but i only get this problem when i have tv out enabled  this is happenning in other programmes as well like nvdvd and power dvd . powere dvd is not recognissing graphics card in tv out mode when hardware accelaration is activated. i have tried all possible setting s and will not sort problem out. in standered 1 monier mode everything is fine no stuttering or picture problems. i think it is driver issue. :O

Even if I check Force TV detection the card never detects the TV.
I have a laptop with the ATI Radeon IGP 320M and have been able to use tv-out with the same cables, tv, etc, no problem.
Is anyone experiencing the same problems?
    Thanks

  • Sound channel problem with Personal Cinema FX500

    WinXP SP1
    MBoard : ASUS P4S533
     (CMI8738 on-board Audio)
    MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 MS-8918
The problem is that in the setup of WinDVD, the only audio source i can choose in WAVE,
but the sound output of the video tuner is on Line-In, of course.
Because of this problem, the remote affects the volume of WAVE, and has no effect on the Line-In channel. And, of course, when recording, the sound on the wave channel is recorded,
    so, no sound !
Any one encountered this problem ? I installed the drivers on the original CD.

After nearly 3 months, I came up with the answer myself:
I installed a new driver (639) for the CMI8738 on-board sound and now the "Line In" option appears in the WinDVR setup.

  • Personal Cinema issue

I recently installed an MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 VT128 into my system and for the most part everything is fine, however, I have just tested dubbing a VHS composite signal from my VCR using the supplied WinDVR program. It seems to record OK but on playback the middle third is just a white band!! I've changed settings but nothing seems to cure this. Any suggestions?
    My system includes:
    MSI K7N2 Delta Motherboard
    AMD 2500+ (not overclocked)
    512MB DDR 3200 RAM
MSI FX5200 VT128 PC Video card
    Audigy 2 sound card
    LG 4040B DVD Recorder
    Intel based Modem

Thanks for the reply. I looked for the WDM driver listing in the add/remove section of the control panel but none where listed so I installed the new (1.08) drivers as you suggested with no change. The add/remove section now lists the nvidia WDM driver. I removed it and tried installing it again but still no luck, I still have the white band.
I should point out the I had a Hauppauge PVR250 in my system previous to the Personal Cinema card so there may be an old driver from that installation that doesn't show up in the add/remove listing. (I did uninstall all the visible drivers and software from Hauppauge before removing that card and installing the Personal Cinema card.) Any ideas on how to find the old driver and eradicate it? I don't fancy doing a complete reinstall!! I have Windows XP Pro in my system.

I'm afraid there is no definitive answer to this problem. I have the same problems and the main protagonists MSI and nVidia couldn't give a   . This is a serious software problem and it looks like it will never be solved. I'm running the latest Personal Cinema driver v56.64, which does actually load the capture driver, but NVDVD, NVREMOTE etc, have to be loaded separately.

  • Problem with FX5200 Personal Cinema and DirectX 9 - serial reboots

I'm hoping someone here can help, because I'm pretty much at the end of my rope here.  Here are my system specs:
    HARDWARE
    ========
    Motherboard: MSI KT6V-LSR
    RAM: 2x 512MB Infineon PC3200 DDR
    CPU: Athlon XP2500+
Video: MSI FX5200 Personal Cinema 128MB
    HDD: Maxtor 160GB
    CDROM: MSI DVD/CDRW Combo
    SOFTWARE
    ========
    Windows XP Home SP1
    All available Windows Updates
    Norton SystemWorks 2003
    MSI bundled drivers and software
      MSIDVD
      MSI Personal Cinema
      MSI Live Update 3
The problem is, I get serial reboots (computer boots to desktop, then reboots within a few seconds) unless I start in safe mode, or use MSConfig to disable all startup items.  Enabling even a single startup item, no matter what it is (NVCPL, any of the Norton tasks, etc) results in serial reboots.
    Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
    =======================
Replace RAM - (single 512 or 2x512) no effect
Replace motherboard (same model) - no effect
Replace video card (same model) - no effect
Replace CPU (same model) - no effect
Replace power supply (w/ 450W) - no effect
Update all drivers, MBD BIOS, VGA BIOS, DVD/CDRW BIOS w/ Live Update 3 - no effect
Install Windows XP but don't install any Windows Updates - computer functions normally
Install DirectX 9.0b - serial reboots
Roll back to DirectX 8.1 - computer functions normally
Install DirectX 9.0a - serial reboots
Replace video card (GeForce MX440) - computer functions normally
Throughout this whole process, Windows XP was reinstalled clean about five times - just to be sure the issue wasn't caused by file corruption in the install.
Anyone have any suggestions?  Do I have to go with a different video card?  Or is there something obvious I've missed?
    -Cameron

Try to put another video card on the computer.
Try the video card on another machine.
Try the lastest driver (there will be a new driver from http://www.nvidia.com tomorrow or may be a few days later).
    Try the lastest motherboard bios.
    Install the monitor driver.
    Install WinXP SP1

  • Personal Cinema and S-Video input

My Personal Cinema FX5200 set up works fine on TV-tuner and Composite Video, and I get good picture quality, and good sound using the Ulead Videostudio 7 software ( and Nero VisionExpress, too)....but when I use an S-Video lead from my VCR into the break-out block, I get black and white images only. I can live with capturing from the composite leads, but why doesn't the S-Video lead work? I have checked and double-checked all the settings, and have run out ogf ideas.
Is anybody else having this problem with S-Video input?
Does anyone have any suggestions where I might be missing something?
Any help much appreciated...I don't like these little problems beating me!

Ricardo this is not solution for you. Using S-Video cable can be used for video signal transfer only.
Do you want to have picture without sound. I don't think so.
I have made similar experiments and I have copied old VHS cassettes to my old Qosmio G30. Later I have converted recorded material and created DVDs.
My Qosmio G30 has antenna in port and I have connected my VHS recorder to this port and transferred video and audio signal. I have for example started video on VHS recorder and started Windows media centre and scanned all channels and on channel 33 I saw my recorded material that comes from connected VHS recorder.
I have tested recording with Qosmioplayer and MCE. Using both options I was able to use record option and have video material on HDD.
I am sure the same can be done with G40. Check it out.

  • 3d blaster personal cinema with another graphiccard?

    hey.
i've got your tv tuner. While I don't have an agp slot for the card, i would like to use your tuner with another graphic card.
is that possible and if yes, how?
are there any drivers for linux?
    cheers

    Just to provide an update:
I tried out the SR731 RF repeater with the Personal Cinema FX5200 remote (UR88A). It does not work.
Fortunately, by moving the RF receiver further away from the PC with a USB extension cable, the range improved.
