MSI PM8M2-V

Yes. This motherboard.
I heard that the SATA on the board doesn't have the NCQ thing. Is that right?
And will the VIA chipset onboard supports EM64T? I'm using it with a Celeron D 331. :D
Please advise. :D

I am not sure. I can't answer you. Try http://www.viaarena.com ?

  • PROBLEM FOR MSI PM8M2-V

I have a MSI PM8M2-V Motherboard with a 400W PSU, and when I turn on my PC nothing happend. The CPU is a P4 3.2 Ghz whit his cooler.

I try that all ready and still no post for me anyways, I don’t know about the other guy?
I Have Clear cmos and minimize the system only leave cpu, cpu fan, and VGA, I have done this a few times, once last night and this morning and also when I first put the board together. And with this shouldn't I get beep for some kind of memory error ,still nothing >:(.
I have taken out the battery and let it stay out over 5 hrs still nothing. I have change video card trying agp and pci. I try with and without memory, try it out of the case and try a 500-watt psu. All the hardware that I put in such as memory, cpu, video, and psu are good and have been tested.
I getting power to everything motherboard ,cpu, CPU fan and psu and case fan.
I know when you try everything and check all the hardware and still get no post the board or the cpu is shot. I think my board maybe no good . I guess I think that something magical is going to happen if I keep trying and it will post.
I have also done some searching on this board and all over the web and I have found more than a few hand full of people that are having the same problem with the motherboard.
The guess I will try to return the board for another one and hopefully that will work.

  • PM8M2-V RAID array not recognised by WinXP Pro

    Greetings,
i'm just setting up a PM8M2-V system with 2 x WD 80GB JD SATA drives. In the RAID BIOS i have configured the drives to be RAID 0 (striped) for performance and made them bootable. From a IDE DVD rom, i'm running a WinXP Pro (corp ed - no pre-installed service packs) install but the OS will not detect any drives in the system.
I have downloaded the VIA_RAID_OM74.zip file from MSI VIA PIDE-SATA RAID Drivers and Utility for creating the RAID drivers and tried to create a floppy disk with the WinXP drivers on it using the embedded (and slightly cryptic) VIA MakeDisk.txt instructions.
Containined on the floppy disk are the following files/folders:
    a:\TXTSETUP.OEM
    a:\PIDE\WinXP\viapdisk.cat
    a:\PIDE\WinXP\viapdisk.sys
    a:\PIDE\WinXP\viapide.inf
    a:\RAID\WinXP\viamraid.cat
    a:\RAID\WinXP\viamraid.inf
    a:\RAID\WinXP\viamraid.sys
*plus the other MS operating system files in the similar directory structure*
Problem - WinXP Pro does not recognise this created floppy disk as a hardware support disk and will NOT let the OS recognise the SATA RAID array as a drive.

  • Hard Drive not recognized in Windows Setup

    Mobo:  MSI PM8M2-V
    CPU:    Intel P4 64-Bit CPU
    HDD:   WD 1600 PATA Drive
    OS:      Windows XP 64-Bit
    BIOS:    W7071VMS V2.3 092605
I am building a computer for my brother and have hit a roadblock.  The Windows XP setup will not recognize my PATA drive (the only drive in the system) by default.  I have downloaded drivers from both the MSI and VIA websites as well as a third party website out of desparation but every 64-bit driver I can get my hands on for this machine will load however will not recognize the drive.
I need to know if I should cut my losses here or if there is a path to salvation as this 'couple hours' project is begining to take up a significant portion of my life.  He had a version of windows on the machine prior to my meddling however I'm almost certain it was 32-bit.  Truth be told the 32-bit version of Windows didn't recognize the drives either but I haven't tried toubleshooting that scenario.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.  I simply cannot afford to spend more time working on this (2 1/2 weeks away from a bachelor's degree, yeah I'm pretty busy).  Thank you.

Because I am able to fully install Slackware on a second partition I am certain the BIOS sees the drive correctly . . .

    . . . I can start the 32-bit installation process

If you can still boot into Slackware, then the BIOS still recognises the HDD.  Do Slackware and the BIOS recognise that the HDD is 160Gb and not about think that it is about 20 to 30Gb ?
If you  have access to a 32-bit copy of Windows, have you tried installing that to see if it works ?  If it does, you have confirmed that the problem is with the 64-bit version of Windows (and your motherboard or HDD).
Personally, I wouldn't install the 64-bit version of Windows - it hasn't been around for 5 years yet !
Ahhh, brothers . . . I have one just like that, "Can you come round after work and get the viruses and malware off my PC please ?  It should only take you about 5 minutes."  Yeah, right !
Just a (further) thought, I think I had a similar problem some time ago.  Windows 2K wouldn't recognise a HDD which I had previously partitioned with some version of Linux.  It seemed as if Windows didn't like the partition table or something.  I was convinced that the HDD was faulty . . . but it would still boot Linux.  I eventually managed to get round the problem by doing a low-level format on the HDD and installing W2K before re-installing Linux.  I now ALWAYS install Windows first, followed by Linux.
ps.  Good luck with the Bachelors - not good timing.

  • VIA Sata system hang

    Hi,
I bought a system with MSI PM8M2-V motherboard with 2 160G seagate sata harddisk,
I did not configure any RAID controller or configuration.
    The system initially works well,
but after some time, it reboots with the following error
Hardware initiate failed, please check device!!!
The bios dose not be installed . press <g> to continue!
Sometimes, just reboot after failure, system will boot up,
but sometimes, it is stuck at this error message without booting up the system. Why?
Is it because it did not read the harddisks?
I read from the Internet that it maybe something to do VIA motherboard & sata harddisk,
there is no record of any errors in the event viewer for the reboot.
But there is no straight forward answer to the problem.
I have updated latest drivers including the RAID controller software from your website.
Could someone please advise me what is the correct steps to retify the issue?
    Thank you.

May I know how to disable RAID?
I can't seem to find the settings

  • PM8M2-V MB rebooting after XP splash screen.

I just bought a MBOX PM8M2-V and installed a P4 640 CPU and 200G Maxtor. After installing Win XP Pro SP1 everything worked fine. I then installed all the drivers from thre CD included from MSI fro the MB. Rebooted a few times. Everything works fine. Installed XP SP2 and now it reboots after the splash screen. I can't even get into WIN XP.
I can get into safe mode....
    Full system spec

    Maxtor Diamond Plus 9/200G/ATA133
    Generic CD Drive
    Driver maybe?

The power supply is a good asset to have and will last ages and continue to be good on future builds. I didn't think it would solve your problem but a new PSU was needed all the same.
I guess you'll have to uninstall SP2 now and try again. A fresh install of SP2 after updating all other drivers should work.

  • PM8M2-V more tech info needed

    Hi,
I hope this is the right place to ask a question of MSI, I cant seem to find anyway to contact MSI direct for a quick answer to my questions regarding the PM8M2-V motherboards.  There is a lack of detailed information on the site http://msicomputer.co.uk/products.aspx?product_id=703619 about this.
Is the motherboard able to ....
    1) return to the previous power state in the event of a powerfailure?
    2) boot from USB?
    3) boot from ethernet (netboot/PXE)?
    4) support CL2.5 and CL3 RAM?

  • PM8M2-V: BIOS with no MASTER PASS

    Hallo,
    I have an PM8M2-V mobo.
In the setup, it gives an option to set a password for the settings of the BIOS.
Is there a way to set a Master pass (password during boot) from the setup?

    Quote
Well, there is a point, if the head of the department you are working is going to give you a penalty for "security reasons" unless you find a solution.
Well, tell him to put big huge locks on the computer case as well to protect such passwords.
What is your current BIOS Version?  I can have a look at the BIOS to see if there is any setting to set a Master Password.
    Quote
Another option will be to have a confirmation from MSI that there is no option of master password.
I believe the best thing is to contact MSI technical support directly.  They can give you official confirmation on the matter and may even be able to supply you with a BIOS that has such an option.

  • PM8M2-V Latest BIOS?

Hi, I have a PM8M2-V and was wondering what the latest BIOS is for it. In Live Update the latest Version Is 1.0, I have 1.1 and on the CPU compatibiliy page it says BIOS 2.5 is latest. Is 2.5 really the latest? And How can I update to the latest if Live Update is reporting 1.0 as the latest?
    Thanks In Advance

    Hello, welcome to forum.

  • MSI (MBOX_PM8M2-V) BAREBONE, NEW BUILD

I have been very AMD satisfied so far, So I am new to pentium
I did have one pentium/VIA system (MY FIRST) many years ago which I learnt greatly from, Went to AMD/N-VIDIA and have not looked back since with no major troubles
I have just purchased a new in the box Barebone system (MBOX_PM8M2-V) for $65.00AU NEW!!! (delivered)
I have done really well lately purchasing top MSI stuff at excellent prices, Just a lucky run maybe, I'm starting to become a bit of an MSI collector/horder, Maybe a great new topic, list your collection?
    http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=MBOX_PM8M2-V&class=npc
I'm unable to find it in the MSI.tw site (english/taiwan), any links?
I have read a few threads about the (mentioned) board and barebones setup, And would like some opinions and a few questions answered if thats OK
I would like to know firstly how long has this system been available? and is it still available? (retail)
What CPU would be recommended, At any budget level
The system will most likely be used by a friend as a spare/backup system to run a security capture card setup (RAPIDOS) and burning discs, storage etc, But I will be sorting it out for him
I have also just purchased for $20.00 delivered the following New in the box  MSI RX300HM-TD128ELF
Would this card be a good contender to run smoothly in this system, Just found this
Note: Due to on-board memory architecture, this video card does not support dual monitors.
Please explain??? (Above) Sorry to get a bit off topic

Any pro's or cons, opinions, warnings etc would be appreciated, Im confident it will all go smoothly as with all (but one) MSI systems I have setup and would just like some reccomendations, details/pointers etc, That I can come back to easily if needed
      Thanks All

Gee looks like I got a bargain though anyway, $65.00AU delivered, Thats a bargain compared to the average price of $85.00US + postage that I found

  • PM8M2-V BIOS update or suggestion please

    Good morning
I've recently bought my first MSI board, an PM8M2-V, to make use of some spare PC parts I had lying around. I'm trying to install Win XP Pro onto a WD Rapter S-ATA drive but I'm having trouble getting the drivers to function properly. I may be compounding my problem as my systems use a removable FDD (via USB) for installation purposes. Having said that, it has never caused a problem before so it appears to be related to this board. Having pressed F6 during installation, the drivers are lifted from the FDD at the appropriate moment during the text phase of the install, the HDD is detected, partitioned and formated, files are copied across for installation to commence, then (still in text mode) the installer asks for more files from the floppy disk but gets stuck. It asks for a disk with appropriate drivers to be inserted, press enter to continue etc, no joy. It just keeps prompting for a disk and to press enter. F3 quits the install. I've tried creating a new floppy, same story.
My first port of call was to check that I'm running the latest BIOS but the support links for the PM8M2-V board shows no BIOS updates since release - can anyone confirm this as I find that unusual? If this is indeed correct, has anyone come across my particular problem and have a solution they can offer? I know there's an issue with jumpers on second generation WD S-ATA drives but this is first generation so I don't believe it's that.
My last resort currently is to by an internal FDD for troubleshooting but I'm a bit reluctant as the USB FDD works with all my other installations (non-MSI).
    Many thanks and kind regards,
    Michael

Hi, and thanks for the suggestions.
I've tried removing the floppy, leaving it in the drive, using an internal FDD now, all with the same results. Not using the F6 function reports no hard drive found. The onboard S-ATA doesn't indicate a RAID setup, and the extremely limited BIOS doesn't have any S-ATA configuration options at all but it's obviously functional as the F6 option allows the drive to be formatted.
This is my first experience with an MSI board, not impressed to be honest. It's good that the onboard LAN is PXE compliant but I can't deploy from my RIS server as the BIOS won't treat the single S-ATA drive in a non-RAID or SCSI mode. I'll box it up and return it today, just put it down to a bad experience and stay with my usual other manufacturers.
    Regards,
    Michael

  • MOVED: Installation Problems with PM8M2-V

This topic has been moved to Intel P4 & Celeron P4 based board.
    Installation Problems with PM8M2-V

port 1. I did try it on port 2. The odd thing is that this mobo is the first that I have seen where SATA is not recognized in the BIOS setup.
I did solve the problem, though. I bought a Via chipset mobo from a different manufacturer. I was tired of spending hours on this project and the fact that MSI tech support told me that it was Microsoft's problem was no help. I didn't want to create a separate drive image of this one mobo. The fact is that MSi created a mobo that required loading additional drivers for SATA to be recognized- I have not worked with any other manufacturer who required additional drivers loaded to work with SATA (a drive standard).
The new mobo fired right up, recognized the SATA, and I was able to Sysprep the PC in no time. Case solved!

  • Unable to capture video with MSI StarForce 822 GeForce 3!

I have a MSI StarForce 822 GeForce3 graphics card with 64 MB DDR SDRAM on it. I have VGA Out, as well as TV-out (AV), TV-out (S-video), and TV-in(?) (S-video).
This brings me to two questions:
First, I have NEVER been able to figure out how to use the TV-in (S-video) port. I have tried numerous programs designed to capture video, including the one that came with the graphics card, and none of them recognize the card's TV-in. Do you have any recommendations as to how to use this port to capture video?
Second, in reading through the online manual for the graphics card on the company's website (under the name G3 Pro-VT64D MS-8822), I saw that the card supposedly has the capability of "High-quality HDTV/DVD playback" (8822 v2.0.pdf, page 8 ). However, in playing back DVD's through the card's s-video output onto my HDTV-ready monitor, I definately do not see HD quality videos. Could explain why this is the case?
I have an assignment coming up where I must do some video-editing work, and thus I am posed with a situation where I need to capture video using this card (and I can't afford to buy something new for the moment).
    Thanks for your help.
    Charles Bergmeier

If you have the Video Capture Driver installed then the video capture program should see it. On MSI site version 1.16 of the driver is available for download.
If you still have problems (e.g. too many frames lost) you can try using Virtual VCR (worked best in my case).
