MSI Pro-E vs Patriot DDR3 3x2048MB Viper II XMP Series 1600MHz CL8.0 EP LLK

Hello.
New equipment as in signature. After few hours (OS installation, drivers installation), during one of required reboots BIOS (AMI BIOS 8.5) started beeping. The number of beeps varies form reboot to reboot (1, 2 or 3). But as beep codes say, all warnings are about the memory. I checked and 1 memory slot was not discovered in BIOS and in WinXP (DIMM B_0). I pulled out the memory modules (pretty hot) and tried different configurations (only 1 module, 2 and 3). No matter how many modules are in, I get beeps during boot-up, just the number of beeps changes. With my last configuration and last boot-up all 3 modules were discovered but still I got beeps.
All configuration is original, nothing changed. Memory voltage is 1.65V and I checked in the Mobo specifications that it supports 1.5V... Do I have to change some settings?

Yes! This is the problem. I have Natec Medusa X-Scissors USB keyboard and HP LaserJet 1200 printer. (I have also Logitech USB wireless mouse but was not connected during the test). When I unplug both of then from USB input, there are not extra beeps at all. When just one of them is connected I get the beep. However once there are two short beeps and once there is just one beep but with different 'musical tone', 'deeper one', but rather not long - the length as the standard beep. I had problems yesterday with my 2 different Logitech wireless USB mice connected to these usb ports - their speed was even worse than in my old PC with USB 1.1 - sometimes it was perfect, and sometimes I could not move a cursor at all. Quite interesting fact is that when I could not move the cursor with mouse1 I could move it perfectly with mouse2!
Furthermore (don't know whether this is important) - the M-connectors for onboard USB/power switch/reset switch/etc did not work! I had to plug the cables directly to the Mobo without the M-Connectors! (this was the case both for USB on front panel and for front panel switches).

MSI Pro-e

This is driving me mad! I just recently installed a corsair h70 to my setup. After doing so i keep getting the 1 long beep with 2 short ones following it. From what ive been reading my other forums it has to be either the ram or the video card. Well iv reseated the cards and made sure the power was connected. I also tested it with another video card i know works. I actually tested the board with a completely different set of ram too. Ive tried resetting the CMOS and checked to see if everything was plugged in correctly.
Basically all the computer does is boot up ( fans start up and lights turn on motherboard ) then after my mouse lights up i get the beeping noises and everything just stops.

Hopefully this helps. The board is just over a year old, it shouldn't be on its last leg already! lol The board worked fine before installing. The last time i had this error was when i forgot to plug in the video card power cables lol. Thats not the case this time.

I7 920 on MSI Pro OC

Hey guys, I'm just going to post my OC and see if this is ok. I haven't messed with any of my voltages. I have my i7 920 on my MSI Pro with EIST off (so no turbo mode). Spread spectrum disable (that is what I read....I have no idea what it does) and overspeed proection disabled. My Base Clock is 177mhz with a multiplier of 21. Now Windows is reporting 3.5GHz (a 20 multiplier) while CPU-Z reports a 21 multiplier for 3.72GHz. I trust CPU-Z, but I don't know why Windows reports 3.5GHz. Also, when I run a stress test (Prime95) for all 4 cores (or I guess "8" with hyperthreading) the multiplier drops down to 20 (according to CPUZ) which doesn't make sense to me because I though I disabled all features that slow it down. It's not a big deal, but any ideas why?
Also, another weird problem. Before I had bios version 7.0, I had EIST on (with turbo mode) and set the base clock to 183 to get 3.66GHz. Ran great, stable as a rock, went up to like 3.8GHz or so when running single threaded apps. But now with bios version 7.1, I can't get that exact same settings. It crashes/locks up when I try to load any game or stress test. I don't know why a BIOS update would prevent that. That is why I am now using my new OC settings (described before). I don't get it.....thanks!

EIST is a power saving feature, when 'Enabled', it steps down the CPU at idle or low requirement. Spread Spectrum 'Enabled' is for systems plagued with EMI problems. Here is a link to a good forum thread that talks a lot about the 21 multiplier. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124684.0
The bios version 7.1 should have given you QPI 'realtime' voltage in Cell Menu. That is a plus. As to why some parameters get changed with a new bios, I'm not sure any of us know that one. If you wanted to, a reflash back to the 7.0 version is always an option. Windows is showing correctly, as well as CPU-Z. The 920 can't stay at 21 multiplier at full load, as it is limited, locked by Intel.

MSI pro s3 standby

Before I get flamed I just want to say that I HAVE searched this problem, but could not seem to find a definite answer, so please don't yell too loudly.
Anyways, I have an MSI pro, and I can't get the S3 Standby state to work. The computer goes into Standby, but when I turn it back up (with the power button, or mouse, or keyboard when I have it enabled) the computer starts up but nothing is displayed on the screen, it is not even receiving a signal. The keyboard lights also don't light up (Numlock, etc). I have tried adjusting bios settings till my face is blue, same with the Windows XP settings. I have the latest ATI drivers for my 4870x2. Any help would be much appreciated. The only way to fix it is pull the plug or hold the power button down for 6 seconds until it shuts down. Oh, and I have bios Version 7.0.

My system is similar to yours, just different power supply, and I'm using OCZ 12GB ram. My S3 works perfectly in Vista Ultimate x64. I'm not running this system overclocked, CPU standard specs.

MSI pro post beep

I am used to a normal POST beep being one short beep, and all is well. Everything on my MSI pro seems to work fine, everything boots, and no errors occur, but the POST beep is rather weird. I will try my best to describe it: Short high, short low, short pause, short high, short low. The last 2 beeps occur a lot quicker than the first two. Is that normal? I figured it should just be one short beep. Thanks

10x memory ratio on MSI Pro E

I just built a new i7 920 system with 1333mhz DDR3 ram and an MSI pro e motherboard. In the bios the memory multiplier is set to auto and the ran is running at 1066. Since the ram is rated at 1333 I should be able to change the memory multiplier to 10x in the bios correct? When I went to the bios the max memory multiplier I found was 8. Am I missing something?

How to adjust VCORE in MSI Pro-E X58?

Hey guys; I've built my first rig and I'm interested in overclocking the i7 I've bought. I've already read a lot on OC'ing and the potential hazards that come with it. In any case, I own the MSI Pro-E X58 and was looking to OC. I've steadily increased the BCLK using the default voltages, but when I hit 3.4 GHz (with a BCLK of 170), Windows crashed after about an hour of P95. I opened the cell menu in the BIOS looking to bump the voltage up a notch, but am a bit confused as to how to do this. Under the cell menu, I noticed the "CPU Vcore" at 1.328 V; I find this odd because I thought the default voltage setting for the Core i7 was 1.2? Also, I'm somewhat unsure as to what the "CPU Voltage" setting does; is this linked wit the "CPU Vcore" setting? My best guess so far is I can change the CPU Voltage to +/- from the CPU Vcore but I'm not entirely positive. Any help would be great.

QPI is 1.20V default on the Pro-E. Your CPU Vcore of 1.328V's will need to be bumped a bit to remain stable. CPU V./Vcore, basically the same thing. Just bump up the CPU V. a step at a time until the system remains stable. Be sure Spread Spectrum in bios Cell Menu is disabled. Remember to keep an eye on the RAM speed as you increase bclk. That can be another source for instability.

Yea , working all fans , all leds (phase of CPU) , just NO POST NO BEEP - Turn on , reboot after 5 sec and stays that way.
BTW I planned to put this board to server in next 3 days, it was on my schelude , now, I can just watch dead Board with working Leds and Fans ...
PS: It's really possible to destroy board by connecting SYSFAN bad way ?

Have you tried disconnecting the power cord, removing the battery and resetting the CMOS via the pins (should show how in your manual), reinsert battery, then check all power connections to mobo, ensure mobo attached firmly at all standoffs (to eliminate shorts), plug in and try to power up.

Msi pro-e mb possibly keeping psu fan on?

Hello all, fresh i7920 build with msi pro-e mb, corsair xms3 6gb, and a corsair tx750w psu. The problem i'm having is when i power down the system for the night the psu fan will continue to run all night long even though the system if off(not in sleep or hibernate). I am guessing its the psu or the mb or maybe even a bios setting i'm overlooking? Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hmmm, Another experiment to try. Turn off the system and do what I said before with unplugging the PSU and draining the capacitors. Now, unplug the SATA connector to your HDDs and the Power connectors to the HDDs. You can leave the ODDs connected. Re-plug in the PSU with no HDDs connected or powered. Turn on the PSU and turn on the computer. You should get a blinking cursor or some message. Turn off the computer by the power switch. Does the fan still run?
If the fan still runs, do you have access to another computer or another PSU? You could try this PSU on another computer, yours or a friends to see if it does the same thing, or borrow another PSU and see it that fan runs on your PRO-E when the machine is off.

MSI-PRO-E Motherboard and OCZ3G1600LV6GK

I have been doing some research and am deeply confused. I am going to be buying a MSI Pro-E motherboard and am planning on buying OCZ Gold Ram (3 x 2GB). I was looking at the timings and am getting confused. Some people are saying you have to mess with the BIOS to get the timing to 8-8-8-24, and others are saying that you don't have to do anything. So I am wondering if you actually have to do anything in order to obtain the timing of 8-8-8-24? Also Can the motherboard run RAM at 1600Mhz without overclocking or would I have to overclock the RAM in order to get that speed?

Typically you will want to use 1N but some RAM won't be able to do it properly...
Something else you may want to consider: If you use 1333 mode instead of 1600 you won't have to increase voltage and often can use much better RAM timings. I've some 7-7-7-20 Corsair RAM in here but when I found out that in 1333 mode it runs with 4-6-6-15 without the requirement to increase the voltage, I was very happy to leave it at that. There are also other timings which can nicely be set manually - my tRFC is 49 instead of 88 now!
Something which may speak against using XMS info: My corsair RAM is a triple kit, but somehow one module has one value set differently than the others in there...thus I'm using manual setup now (tRFC was set much too high anyway, it wasn't even using XMS info).

Are these temps ok? (Core i7) (MSI Pro-E)

Hello folks, before I started doing some light OC, I wanted to make sure that my system was stable at stock settings, without any after market cooling devices.
My h/w specification goes like this:
CPU - Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.67 GHz
Motherboard - MSI Pro-E
RAM- Corsair 6 Gb kit 1333 MHz
Video card- Nvidia 9500 GT 1 Gb
Hard drives- WD 500 Gb X 2
Operating system- Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit
PSU- Corsair VX450W
I ran Mprime (the linux port of Prime95) for an hour without any issues. The temperatures were as follows:
Idle: CPU: 25-26
IOH: 64
Load: CPU: 84
IOH: 77
I know that IOH temps are high at idle, but am getting an Antec Spot Cool fan to fix that. (thanks to the informative discussions on the forums)
However what I want to know is that at full load, isn't the CPU temp too high ? My system didn't crash, but since I am new to this subject, please let me know what you think. Also, since it has been mentioned in the forums in threads regarding the high IOH temps that a lot of after market coolers leave little room for cooling of the heatsink...which brand/model/type of an after market CPU cooler according to you folks should I go for ?
Also, is there a possibility of slightly OCing the system, say up to 3 GHz, with the stock cooler, or should I start saving for a good CPU cooler ?

MSI X48 Platinum LGA775, CFire,DDR3,GBLan,SATA2,ATX not posting due to ddr3

I cannot get this board to post except once when I had first built it a few days ago. I then moved the pc and added some other usb etc and since then the pc will not post. The post lcd shows ddr3 and freezes. I then reset the bios and it posts and asks f1 to enter the setup or f2 for minimum defaults. If I alter anything in setup it goes back to the ddr 3 error. When using f2 and min defaults it posts but tells me I have a startup file missing. It then restarts to a ddr3 failure again. Can anyone suggest some steeings and a way around this? I appreciate I need to reload vista 64 as the startup file is missing but I can't seem to get to the point of being able to do that.

coolermaster haf case, with loads of fans etc
intel core 2 quad 9550
OCZ 4Gb (2x2Gb) DDR3 1333MHz Gold Dual Channel Kit
2 x sata 500mb samsung hdd
1 x sata nec dvd rewriter
1000w BFG tech power supply
1 x radeon x1900xt graphics card.

It's very hard to understand why do they need 1.7V if they're real DDR3-1333 CAS=9.
Probably because they're not ...
Anyway, please post a screenshot of the CPU-Z Memory SPD settings.

Someone did some testing and these Xeon processors scale differently, turbo-boost means it can put a core to sleep when it isn't needed and give more to the cores that are.
But, the number of apps that do use more than 8-core are in short supply.
Then there is the contention between cooling and whether the cpu or the twin GPUs get preference, OS X won't allow both to ask for full 100%.
We assume you know all there is about cpu scaling and usage and just need to see which ones are on Intel's list that are pin compatible and have the right thermal requirements and such.
