MSI pro post beep

I am used to a normal POST beep being one short beep, and all is well.  Everything on my MSI pro seems to work fine, everything boots, and no errors occur, but the POST beep is rather weird.  I will try my best to describe it: Short high, short low, short pause, short high, short low.  The last 2 beeps occur a lot quicker than the first two.  Is that normal?  I figured it should just be one short beep. Thanks

Is there a way I can turn those beeps off?
Unplug the speaker from the pin header.

  • MSI B75MA-P45 -- No POST beep

So this is my first build and my configurations are
    Intel i5 3570
    Corsair vengeance 4 GB DDR3
    Corsair CX600W PSU
Cooler master HAF 912 Combat cabinet
Nvidia GTX 660(Yet to be delivered)
    Seagate barracuda 1 TB
So,I breadboarded my motherboard with the CPU,heatsink,RAM and PSU.
I fired it up and there was no POST beep on the speaker.
Then I removed the RAM and I got 3 long beeps which means bad memory.
So,my question is that what is the culprit? I guess if it can manage to give 3 long beeps for no RAM,the processor is fine.
The leftover parts are PSU,mobo and RAM.I am yet to borrow a RAM from my friend and PSU seems fine as there was very less load on it(not even a GPU).
Is there anyone with a B75MA-P45 who faced anything like that? Can this really be a bad mobo? The caps seem fine and theres no point of static flowing into it.
Also, the fans attatched to the motherboard powerup as well so this might mean that power is being supplied to motherboard and it isn't short.
Please reply soon as I'm really worried and pissed off on this problem :|

    So,yesterday I wrote about how I couldn't get a POST beep.Now,things got worse.Today when I tried to power up the PC..it didn't :\ No cabinet fans spinning,no CPU fan snipping..NOTHING.
I removed the front panel headers and short the board manually to power it up but still the same.
PSU could have been bad but I tried the paper-clip method and the PSU's fan was working on when I used that method.
I have already applied for a replacement but as of now I would like to diagnose the problem. As with the paper-clip method,I short the 24 pin power plug. So,that means that 24-pin cable is working.
That comes down to either the 24-pin socket OR ATX 4 pin cable/SOCKET which is beside the processor. As I have a ATX 4x4 pin cable I tried to use both of them but to no avail.
That lowers down to the ATX 4 pin socket. So,that got screwed?
The last time I powered up my PC was yesterday by breadboarding it.After that I placed it back into the cabinet.
What are your thoughts on this one? Can you suggest me something to make it working again? Will CMOS reset help in such case?
And is it normal that my ATX 24 pin power cable has 23 wires?
Please reply as soon as possible.

  • MSI PRO e DEAD ?!?

    Hi,
Under is my post from tech powerup. So as last thing I post it on your forum.

    Hi,
I need some advice what to do ...
Today, I turned on my pc (see specs watched some news, facebook ,etc.)
I noticed that I have 1 left FAN for my PC from work (got from some new case, quiet with normal connecotr SYSFAN), so I wanted to install it because I needed more airflow .
So installed turned on , saw that POWERLED is not working. Checked and it was plugged. So I turned on AND no BEEP !
Tried agan NO BEEP (ofc normal booting sound of Corsair H50, etc) after 5 sec It rebooted and again no beep. It stays just like that (turned on).
    ANY ideas ???
OFC no post , blank screen
today: Tried both GPUs separatedly , still nothing
    Tried all RAMs seperately
    Removed all driver
    changed speaker
    Changed GPU to Nvidia 6200LE
    Checked CPU
    Checked CPU pins
    Cleared CMOS
    Took out battery for CMOS
AND STILL NOTHING = Rly angly ... = Blank screen
Yea , working all fans , all leds (phase of CPU) , just NO POST NO BEEP - Turn on , reboot after 5 sec and stays that way.
BTW I planned to put this board to server in next 3 days, it was on my schelude , now, I can just watch dead Board with working Leds and Fans ...
PS: It's really possible to destroy board by connecting SYSFAN bad way ?
EDIT: as I can see , under me is same problem with MSI PRO e ... NICE
    Thanks for your fast reply

Have you tried disconnecting the power cord, removing the battery and resetting the CMOS via the pins (should show how in your manual), reinsert battery, then check all power connections to mobo, ensure mobo attached firmly at all standoffs (to eliminate shorts), plug in and try to power up.

  • K9N NEO V3 POST Beep Issue

Hello, and thanks in advance for taking the time to give this a look. (TL;DR below)
As stated in the topic title, I’ve been having issues with my PC involving POST beep codes.
Couple days ago, PC stopped displaying on monitor. A few on/off’s later, I realized the PC was beeping oddly. I looked up POST codes online, but I’m not entirely sure which set to use. I have no display to check for my motherboard BIOS and version, so I am at the moment using what is written on the actual mobo; AMI BIOS. I can hear a single beep, followed by about 8 shorter beeps. There is a noticeable difference between the first and the rest. I have already run the computer without the optical drive, harddrive, and graphics card and still found the same problem. With just the mobo and CPU, I hear nothing, but that’s because I assume my mobo will not POST without RAM, so I tried a single stick new replacement to test with and I am still getting the same POST beeps as before. I have also tried reseating my graphics card and the small round cell found on my mobo. Is there anything that I’ve missed? Or is there something else at the root of the problem.
TL;DR: My computer will not display on a monitor, and I am getting the beeps associated with POST problems. Have tried running without essential hardware and separate memory stick to no success. Unsure of how to proceed.
    Here are my current specs:
    MSI K9N NEO V3 / MS-7369
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor @ 2.6 GHz
    OCZ Gold XTC Dual Channel PC26400 DDR2 800MHz 1GB x2 (5-5-5-12)
    XFX 8600 GT XXX Edition 256 MB DDR3 PCI-E
    WD Caviar Blue 160GB 7200RPM 8MB SATA (WD1600AAJS)
Apevia X-Infinity Case with Turbolink PSU (420W)
    Windows XP (32bit) SP3
I’ve narrowed down my problem to either the mobo or the cpu, but that’s about it.
I appreciate your help, and if there’s something that needs to be clarified, just let me know.
I apologize if this is in the wrong section or if there’s a format problem with my post.

I figure this is the best place to ask, since its related to my issues and doesn't need another topic.
I'm looking at this Corsair 750W PSU, but the only thing I'm wondering about is lack of a P4 MB connector. I'm not entirely sure what it's used for? I'm pretty green when it comes to installing and hooking up PSUs, so I've been comparing the connectors just to make sure I don't buy a product that won't hook up to my system. Also, is there a default size? Like motherboards come with the ATX or micro-ATX form. I'd hate to buy it and find out that it won't fit in my case
    First choice
    Second choice
    Third choice
I noticed a lot of the PSU have multiple 18A / 12 V rails as opposed to a single 12V rail with higher amps. Are those maximum values? Or will it increase as you decrease the number of 12V rails being used. Sorry for the questions, but I figure I might as well ask now while I can

  • I7 920 on MSI Pro OC

Hey guys, I'm just going to post my OC and see if this is ok.  I haven't messed with any of my voltages.  I have my i7 920 on my MSI Pro with EIST off (so no turbo mode). Spread spectrum disable (that is what I read....I have no idea what it does) and overspeed proection disabled.  My Base Clock is 177mhz with a multiplier of 21. Now Windows is reporting 3.5GHz (a 20 multiplier) while CPU-Z reports a 21 multiplier for 3.72GHz.  I trust CPU-Z, but I don't know why Windows reports 3.5GHz.  Also, when I run a stress test (Prime95) for all 4 cores (or I guess "8" with hyperthreading) the multiplier drops down to 20 (according to CPUZ) which doesn't make sense to me because I though I disabled all features that slow it down.  It's not a big deal, but any ideas why?
Also, another weird problem.  Before I had bios version 7.0, I had EIST on (with turbo mode) and set the base clock to 183 to get 3.66GHz.  Ran great, stable as a rock, went up to like 3.8GHz or so when running single threaded apps.  But now with bios version 7.1, I can't get that exact same settings.  It crashes/locks up when I try to load any game or stress test.  I don't know why a BIOS update would prevent that.  That is why I am now using my new OC settings (described before).  I don't get it.....thanks!
    Windows XP
    MSI pro
    Core i7 920
    3x2Gigs DDR3 1333 Corsair RAM
    Sapphire ATI 4870x2
    950 watt PSU

EIST is a power saving feature, when 'Enabled', it steps down the CPU at idle or low requirement. Spread Spectrum 'Enabled' is for systems plagued with EMI problems. Here is a link to a good forum thread that talks a lot about the 21 multiplier. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124684.0
The bios version 7.1 should have given you QPI 'realtime' voltage in Cell Menu. That is a plus. As to why some parameters get changed with a new bios, I'm not sure any of us know that one. If you wanted to, a reflash back to the 7.0 version is always an option. Windows is showing correctly, as well as CPU-Z. The 920 can't stay at 21 multiplier at full load, as it is limited, locked by Intel.

  • Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting!

Well, I just read a lot of postings but did not really found a solution to my problem. There are  a few similiar postings but they are often not really the same. So here it comes. Sorry if I repeat anything.
Well I built up this Barebone with the following components:
    Intel Pentium IV - Northwood - 2,4 GHz; 512kb Cache; 533 Mhz (133FSB)
Maxtor IDE HDD - 160 GB
    DVD MSI 16x ...?
RAM 512MB 2700 Infinion (1 module, no crap! - inner slot)
I do not get any POST beep, neither the cpu fan nor the HDD starts to run wenn pushing the power button. The Hi-Fi Part works. I can't shut shut down the PC-part with the power switch, hust by unplugging the cable.
I should not have the wrong CPU, and I installed it carefully. I am really somehow experiences so I don't think it's that, if it has not been delievered already dead.
The RAM module was installed at the inner bank. I have to admit that I did not test it at the other bank, I am not at home now but I will test it.
Does it make sense to clear the CMOS even if I did not boot any time, beacause it doesn't work ?
    thanks for all replies

    Bump...Cuz Im a Dummy & Stumped
    Please help me out here.

Bsically, I have the same problem as the post entitles. It just wont boot. No beep at all. All of my parts are brand spankin new out of the box. As far as I know the Ram is perfectly compatible and I cant figure out what the deal is. Somone please give me some dummy directions. I want so badly for this thing to just run so I can finally use a cool PC for me and the family.
    Thank you for ANY help.

  • Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting! another one!!

Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting!
I have looked at the forum and seen several postings similar, but nothing I have read helps
The MEGA PC651 is built with the following
    Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz 533mhz SKT478  1mg cache Retail Boxed Processor
    Maxtor 6Y080L0 Plus 9  80GB 7200rpm UDMA133
DVD Samsung 52x32x52x16x Int IDE Combo
RAM Ebuyer 256MB DDR333 PC2700 Extra Value Ram (x two)
Not sure if the P4 processor is compatible, it has 1MB of cache. does that make it a Prescott, I can't seem to find out. the tag on the box reads BX80546PE2400ESL7YP
I do not get any POST beep,  the cpu fan or the HDD does not run when I push the  PC power button, in fact the only thing that starts is the power suply fan. The Hi-Fi Part works fine. I can't shut shut down the PC-part with the power switch, have to unplug the cable.
Is the problem the processor or the mother board
Tried clearing the CMOS but no change
    Thanks in advance

A Celeron 320 is a Celeron D, as far as I know and so it is also not supported.
Have a look at the official MSI Mega Pc page and you'll find a cpu-support list

  • POST Beeps

    Hi guys,
Does anyone know what the POST beeps on the MSI P6N SLI-V2 mean? Sometimes I get 2 and sometimes 3.
    Thanks.

    Unplugged everything and zero beeps
Thinking about it, sometimes I have my joystick plugged in which is where the extra beep is coming from.
    Thanks a lot.

  • AMI POST Beeps

    Hi there,
For some time my PC has been making strange beeps at POST that I haven't been able to identify with any lists of AMI POST beeps.
I've recorded them and put the file here. It's a .amr file (because I recorded it on my phone), which Quicktime should be able to play.
For information, this is the hardware I have:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHzt
    Mainboard: MSI P4M890M-L
    BIOS: AMI v 1.3
    RAM: 2 x 1GB Kingston DDR2 PC2 4300
    Video card: Nvidia GeForce 8500GT
Windows 7 32 bit (the same beeps occurring with all OS)
Hopefully I've given everything needed. I haven't been able to find anything that describes that pattern of beeping anywhere, so any help would be great!

Do you have USB devices connected?  The board will beep for USB devices attached.
Beep codes usually aren't very precise in finding issues.  If the beeps really bother you, just unplug the case speaker.

  • No video or POST beeps on PT880...please help.

I've been running this MB, CPU & Mem. (all new) for about a month now and everything was working fine (needed to upgrade bios for Linux to work).  But everything seemed to be just fine.
I was over at my bro in law's place updating some patches on his high speed Internet, and when I rebooted I had a no video signal or post beeps.  I had plugged in his monitor and that was the only change.  One other bit of info I've experienced before was there being a long delay in POST occasionally when using a video switch.  Not the case now.
What I've done to troubleshoot so far:
    - thought it was the video card, took it to a computer shop and they said it is fine.
    - started up with only video & mem on MB, with all other devices disconnected from the power supply.
    - cleared CMOS for 15 sec. on jumper, and removed BIOS battery for over an hour.
    - D-Bracket indicator shows it hangs on "Initializing Video Interface" (This will start detecting the CPU clock, checking type of video onboard. Then detect and initialize video adapter).
Based on this info I'm thinking the AGP slot is no good on the MB.  I was going to try and find another video card (both AGP & PCI) and see if they work.  If AGP works (which I've seen swapping video cards can reset video ???) then something isn't compatible with video.  If not, and PCI works then AGP slot is no good.  If nothing works, I'm stumpped.
Am I looking in the right direction?  Anything else I can try?  If there any utility that will test the MB?
Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi...........
Go to MSI website and then BIOS FAQ..........
    Then amiboot section.........
It will tell you how to create a diskette to flash bios and this is best way to flash under a LINUX install.......... 1.4 is best bios at the present time as 1.5 is creating post delays upto 1 min............

  • P67A-G43 B3 1 long 2 short post beep

    From the troubleshooting guide:
Continues beeps or 1long 2short beeps = possible memory error
            • Try re-seating memory or test with different memory
1long 2short or 8short beeps = possible video card problem
            • Try re-seating video card, test system with known good video card
1 Long, 2 Short       A video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot intialize the video screen to display any additional information
I am trying to use a Radeon HD 6870 with a P67A-G43 B3. Is this not possible and do I need a different motherboard?
    Additional information:
This is happening during an external build test with only the CPU, Memory, and GPU installed. The CPU is a i5-2500k, the memory is Kingston 4Gx2 KHX1600C9D3K2/8G, the GPU is a Saphire Radeon HD 6870. When I plug in a monitor I get no display information.
This is the VGA test report for the motherboard: http://us.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2342.pdf
My GPU is not listed but when I used PCPartPicker I was under the impression that it would only pick compatible parts for my computer. It's looking like I need a different mortherboard but I would like a confirmation.

Wow I feel really stupid now. So when I used both of the 6pin power plugs I got a single post beep.
Thank you for all your help now if you have a little more time I wouldn't mind additional help.
When I start it up and successfully get the single post beep, on the monitor it says "CPU or Memory Changed !!!" and says press f1 to run setup or press f2 to load default values and continue.
    is this normal?

  • Are these temps ok? (Core i7) (MSI Pro-E)

Hello folks, before I started doing some light OC, I wanted to make sure that my system was stable at stock settings, without any after market cooling devices.
My h/w specification goes like this:
    CPU - Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.67 GHz
    Motherboard - MSI Pro-E
RAM- Corsair 6 Gb kit 1333 MHz
Video card- Nvidia 9500 GT 1 Gb
    Hard drives- WD 500 Gb X 2
Operating system- Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit
    PSU- Corsair VX450W
I ran Mprime (the linux port of Prime95) for an hour without any issues. The temperatures were as follows:
    Idle: CPU: 25-26
            IOH: 64
    Load: CPU: 84
              IOH: 77
I know that IOH temps are high at idle, but am getting an Antec Spot Cool fan to fix that. (thanks to the informative discussions on the forums)
However what I want to know is that at full load, isn't the CPU temp too high ? My system didn't crash, but since I am new to this subject, please let me know what you think. Also, since it has been mentioned in the forums in threads regarding the high IOH temps that a lot of after market coolers leave little room for cooling of the heatsink...which brand/model/type of an after market CPU cooler according to you folks should I go for ?
Also, is there a possibility of slightly OCing the system, say up to 3 GHz, with the stock cooler, or should I start saving for a good CPU cooler ?

84 at stock?  Something wrong there.  Shouldn't even be going over the 50s.  Make sure you installed the CPU cooler correctly.  If you reinstall it and the temperatures are the same, then the chipset heatsink is making little/obscured contact and needs to be reinstalled.  A fresh blob of TIM on the chipset wouldn't hurt either.  (Doing both the CPU and chipset coolers would not hurt one bit.)
I still don't know why MSI's IOH temperatures are still so high.  It's been months now and they still have this inconvenience/issue.
Thanks a lot for the information. I have re-checked and the CPU cooler is installed fine, is fixed tight. I will try your other suggestions as soon as I get the thermal compounds. Sidenote- Arctic Silver Ceramique should be fine, right ?

IOH is ok, but if you feel adventurous, new TIM & adding a nylon washer between the stock washer & spring should help. The Antec Spot Cool is a great temp reducer. All my rigs run a Zalman 9900. One reason I like it on an X58 rig, is because it gives a little passive air onto the IOH similar to the stock cooler. smile
Added: Once you get that high CPU at load figured out, you should be able to run the stock cooler up to around 3.5-3.6 with no problem.
Thanks HU16E, your posts on the other thread (on high IOH temps) have also been useful. I will look into buying the Zalman 9900, thanks for the info.
I hope I haven't done any damage to the CPU by running that stress test for an hour. (n00b query: why didn't my system shutdown at such high temperature ?)

  • MSI Pro-e

This is driving me mad! I just recently installed a corsair h70 to my setup. After doing so i keep getting the 1 long beep with 2 short ones following it. From what ive been reading my other forums it has to be either the ram or the video card. Well iv reseated the cards and made sure the power was connected. I also tested it with another video card i know works. I actually tested the board with a completely different set of ram too. Ive tried resetting the CMOS and checked to see if everything was plugged in correctly.
Basically all the computer does is boot up ( fans start up and lights turn on motherboard ) then after my mouse lights up i get the beeping noises and everything just stops.

    MSI Pro-e
    6GB Corsair ddr3 ram
    Evga 285 sli
    Win7 x64

    MSI Pro-e ( not the usb 3.0 version, bios version 8.C ); i7-920 ( reset cmos so stock ); Corsair H70 dual push pull fan; 3x2 GB DDR3 Corsair CMX6GX3M3C1600C7; EVGA 02G-P3-1186-AR GeForce GTX 285 Superclocked Edition 2GB ; 2x Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB 10000 raid0; WD 300GB SATA HDD; BFG Tech EX-1200 BFGR1200WEXPSU 1200W Continuous; HAF 922; Win 7 x64;
Hopefully this helps. The board is just over a year old, it shouldn't be on its last leg already! lol The board worked fine before installing. The last time i had this error was when i forgot to plug in the video card power cables lol. Thats not the case this time.
