Msi R3870X2D1G ATI

I was looking for more info about the new r3870x2 1gb ati card if anybody owns one yet and was wondering if nvidias new line of cards were delayed because ati raised the bar ?

Aaron i have only heard rumors myself about nvidias new cards, you obviously have heard and know more than me about the new releases but yes i see that ati has released these monsters not that im going right out to buy one tomorrow but they do sound interesting and powerfull and was looking for some input. Think my silverstone 750 can power 1 ? 60 Amp max 12 v rail ? Maybe i will wait to see nvidias new goodies first.
Power consumption:
Radeon HD 2900 XT 391 Watt
Radeon HD 3850       246 Watt
Radeon HD 3870       286 Watt
Radeon HD 3870 X2  382 Watt
Radeon HD 3870 X2  recommended 30A @ +12V, and 50A@+12V for 2 of them.

  • MSI 990FXA-GD80 / MSI Radeon ATI HD 7870 Hawk / Phanteks combo.

    Hi
I am in the process of building a new system but have, potentially, run into some problems.
The motherboard I am looking to buy is the “MSI 990FXA-GD80” and the graphics card is the “MSI Radeon ATI HD 7870 Hawk”, processor  FX-8350.
    Now to my question/possible problem.
I am looking to buy a third party cooler from Phanteks, the “Phanteks PH-TC14P-RD”.
I know that it will be a tight fit between the cooler and the graphics card normally, and since the Hawk has the “GPU reactor” (which builds the height of the card) my concern is that it would interfer with the Phanteks making it impossible for me to install the video card using the Phanteks.
I was wondering if this combo would work or not, prior to registering here I Googled searched like crazy but came up with nothing.
I would really appreciate some help.
    Best regards.
    Eric

Since that board has two PCI-E slots with 16 lanes you wouldn't have to use the first slot so reactor is not the real issue. The VRM cooler of the board could be more troublesome as the cooler has two towers and two fans.
However I found somone listing a combo with the cooler and a 990FXA-GD65 which should have a vrm cooler of the same height.

  • Question about MSI/VIA/ATi compatibility

As you can see, I may be getting an X850XT soon for my 6800gt. Ihave had one ATi card in the past which was my 9800 pro a whileback, and it was a good card, but I did have some issues back then, whether it was problems with VIA or not. Anyways, I have read somecomplaints by other people who say that ATi cards and VIA  chipsetsdon't and especially MSI boards get along sometimes and cause problems in games. I was hopingthat this board can shine some light into this, thanks inadvance! Do MSI boards seem to suffer more with ATi products rather than NV products?

I've owned both the 6800GT and the X800XT (both AGP) and used both with K8T Neo2 board.  I had some mouse issues when using the 6800GT.  It would disappear during gaming.  This was nVidia driver related.  Overall, I think they are both fine with MSI boards in either nVidia or VIA chipsets.  The occassional driver issue is hard to avoid from either camp.
I have used numerous MSI boards, both VIA and nVidia, in the past with Radeon 9700Pro and 9800Pro and nVidia MX cards.  No troubles that I can warn you about.  Maybe some issues arise when overclocking?  I usually don't overclock & when I do, it is mild.  I think if you run pretty standard fare you will be fine no matter what you choose.  Just my observations...

  • MSI RS480M2 ATI-based MB for A64 and Overclocking

The manual states that "This motherboard is designed for overclocking".
How come i cant figure out how to overclock?
There is no options for overclocking in the bios and MSN CoreCenter isn't compatible with this motherboard.

I'm curious about this as well. Overclocking ability will probably be the deciding factor on whether I buy this board or not.
I also asked about it in another topic here:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=73172.0
So far, I haven't heard any way to overclock it. MSI tech support still hasn't replied after my second inquiry and I'm about fed up with them. It could just be because of the Chinese New Year, so I'll give it another week or so. But I've yet to find any beta or alternate BIOS with overclocking options, nor have I found a work-around yet. You could give the beta BIOS 3.2 a try, but I've been told it doesn't specify that it has any overclocking options.
If you learn anything, will you let us know? Thanks and good luck.

  • MSI GE700 ATI 5730 issue

My GE700 is almost two weeks old and I use it for heavy gaming (starcraft 2 etc). I encountered a problem with my ATI 5730, the game freezed and I can hear a constant high pitched sound coming from the GPU fan, I was forced to turn off the computer manually and after reboot she worked fine. I want to know if this is too much stress (I have been playing for 4-5 hours prior to this happening), if so then what would be the recommended period for 'resting' the computer in order to avoid future problems? Do I need to have it checked  to possibly repair or replace the GPU (it is still under warranty but I do not know if it will cover replacement of the GPU) ? Based on the notebookjournal.de review the ge700 has a good cooling system, did I just push it too far?
    Thank you in advance

hey. Just watch our for Starcraft II. Lots of people have complained about the game frying their graphics cards due to the fact that no limit is placed on the frames per second the card generates. Thus if a pc/laptop has limited cooling or inadequate it can fry the card. Blizzard just brushed it off in the typical we don't give a crap corporate attitude.
The fix for this is here: http://scforum.info/index.php?topic=4406.0 . Hope it fixes it and that your card is not damaged.

  • ATI Radeon Black Screen on 3d

Well, I have tried a 9200, 9550, and 9600.  Everytime I launch something that goes into 3D mode, the screen just sits black.  I tried Omega drivers, and most recent Cat drivers, and get same results.. I am lost on what to do.

There is an item in the setup for 2D and £D, 2D must be installed before the 3D it is in the  Start >  All Programs > ATI optomised driver v 1.8a by Techconnect Magazine.  and in one of the items there is that 2D/ 3D item.
Don't think it is solely MSI issue, ATI could help a lot.

  • MSI GT735 VGA drivers update (HD3850).

    Hi,
VGA drivers for the MSI GT735 Ati Mobility Radeon HD3850 are now out of date...
The ones available on MSI download site are catalyst 8.5 :
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=nbdriver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1517&driver_os_no=2#os
The ones provided by Ati on their offcial site are not working (10.5).
Some of the latests games I'm installing are crashing and when I'm asking for support, hotliners ask me to use the latests drivers for my video card, mines are nearly 18 monthes old, which is a long time, especially for drivers, and mostly for video drivers.
It seems a little bit strange for a notebook of "Gaming Series"...
More, modders like Mobility Modder.NET do not work...
    Can you help?
Does MSI think about its fans and hardcore gamers?
    Best regards.

    Sorry!
I just downloaded Ati Catalyst 10.5 for Ati Mobility Radeon HD 3850 and they work perfectly!!!
They now have a section for notebooks on Ati website.
My games are now working great, and I'm scoring 3810 in 3DMark 2006, with benchmark by default.
This post can be removed, I didn't look at "[IMPORTANT!] Modified Vista and XP drivers for laptops with ATI & NVIDIA GPU" section of the forum before posting.
    Best regards.

  • ATI 8x AGP

First off, this is what i'm running.
    MSI K7N2 delta-L
    Amd xp 2600+ @2.1ghz (10.5x200)
    512 pc3200 ddr
    Ati Radeon 9700 pro
Whenever I run the video card at 8x agp it will crash out of anything 3d in 5 seconds flat. I jump it down to 4x and it's fine.
I've seen that alot of other people have had this problem with msi boards and i guess msi hates ati.
I would like to run the video card that I spend a load of money on at its full potential.
    Besides that, this board rocks.
Does anyone know when i can expect a fix (driver or bios) for this, or does anyone know a way to get this thing to run stabaly at 8x?
    Thanks.

What type of memory are you using? Do you have any IRQ conflicts? What type of PSU are you using? ATI cards are power hungry!
Listen, you don't know the situation. And I don't have an Ati, I have a FX5800!!! You know this card???  :P

  • How to flash MSI 6970 Lightning

    Hi,
I recently contacted msi support about a performance bios issue with my MSI 6970 lightning.  They emailed me 3 files, an atiflash file, and atiflash application file, and the update bios.bin file.  They also e-mailed me directions but they're in japanese.  Can anyone clarify what I need to do in order to re-flash my MSI 6970 ATI Lightning card?  THanks!

No the card runs @ 940mhz core clock, the issue I was having was when I set the card profile to performance from silent the display wouldn't work.  They sent me the updated bios to fix this issue but the directions are in japanese and when I translated them via google I didn't understand what they were saying to do.
***EDIT  After some google research I think I have the basic idea... please let me know if i'm correct.
Step 1: Create a bootable MS-DOS Drive(Either CD or USB)
Step 2: Unzip the ATI Flash files and updated bios to the drive
Step 3: Reboot, go to bios, set the MS DOS drive to boot priority 1
Step 4: In DOS command type "atiflash -p 0 biosname.rom"  In my case it would "atiflash -p 0 TV237MS.102"
The bios update they sent me ends with .102 instead of .rom.. that an issue?

  • RAM and other Q's for MSI k7n2g-ilsr

I had a friend buy this board and he got kingston ram and the kingston ram failed on him so he got CERTified samsung ram and i thought IM not paying  :O  $150 for 512 RAM.  X(
I saw the Article about ram recommendations for this board but im paranoid you could say. I want to buy either cosiar 2 sticks of 256(Model#: CMX256A-2700C2 ) or could i get 2 sticks of 512 coaisar ram (Model#: CMX512-2700C2 ) and I want to be able to use onboard video for a while then pick myself up a radeon 9700 or a 9800 pro and have no conflicts ? PLease email me or post a reply . Oh and is this board come with  IDE 100 or 133 ?
THe only thing wrong with this board is that the audio connector is in the way if you wanted to put a pci card in that slot. )
:P BY the way Im upgrading from a kt266 msi motherboard with 512 RAM, Amd 1700 and aN Ati 9000. :P

You can read the specs of this board on MSI's website directly to answer those types of questions...
Reagarding your memory, don't take my post lightly as most ppl have had major problems when buying cheaper memory for this board...it's up to you what direction you want to go in regards to this...have problems or don't...Mushkin is a great buy for it's stability and O/Cing ability if that's what you're into...
Most of the ppl are rolling the dice with any of the nForce2 boards out there right now being that they're new on the market, if you want assured no problems go with something a bit older and that should be cool...
I wouldn't rely on using the onboard video if you plan on gaming...most are having issues with it...
MSI and ATI are working on a known issue with Radeons and this board right now and hopefully will release a new BIOS to fix it soon...only have problems on the 1.3/3.4 ILSR/IL versions tho...
There are other issues regarding this board, do a search on this forum and you'll read for days heheheh
I did like this board when I had it working tho (I haven't tried to fix it yet so...) it was fast and the sound was great!! Overall I like the board, but you can't skrimp on memory costs or PSU cause this board is power hungry..
    Cheers!! 8)

When the machine reboots it appears to display a memory dump and when you follow the post on the Microsoft site it ascertains that it is a driver issue, yet it is not specific enough to tell you which driver. I have updated all the drivers from MSI and ATI, and am running Cool & Quiet.
If you know what I might try to do in attempts to fix this please let me know.

hey thanks for your reply. yes i made sure everything was enabled and i just fixed my own problem. just for the heck on it i called msi tech support [talked to a real smart fella] and he told me that sometimes you need to jumper the drive when your using a single hard drive. i played with it a few minutes and it worked. its installing xp right now. i guess you learn something new everyday.

YES the R9 270x is connected and fans spinning. yes the APU works without the R9 270x in the slot.
i have had to uninstall the VGa Driver that installed over the 6.01 chipset R7. so the standard VGA showing will be the R9 270x. i cannot update the driver using device manager , because the driver is packaged.
