MSI R6850 PM2D1GD5 Short Test

Here is my short quick test for the MSI R6850 PM2D1GD5 and my share for the peeps in this forum.
The videocard’s box is pretty the same with MSI’s 6870 model. Plain and simple but what really stands out for this particular 6850 is its custom cooler. It has two direct heatpipes that dissipates heat straight from the GPU Chip and the fan size used for the cooler is 9cm. Downloading the latest Afterburner in the net will makes this video card perform at par with 6870. Thus, will give end user better value for their money.

Thanks. More hardware to come hehehehe

I've tried two different monitors; both automatically switching/sensing to the input.  I've also tried to do it manually, but still have the same outcome.

  • MSI R6850-PM2D1GD5 Output Issues VGA vs DVI

I just recently built a new machine and am having some issues with the MSI graphics card.
Specifically, the graphics card will output a display to the monitor if I use the supplied DVI to VGA connector and go VGA to VGA with the monitor.  However, if I use a DVI to DVI cable, the monitor will not display anything.  I have not tried to use the display port or the HDMI.
I spent a good half hour trying to figure out if the cable was a problem and kept installing and removing the MSI card, but it turns out that it does work, just that the DVI to DVI connection isn't working.
    Specs are below
    Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LX
    CPU: Intel i-3600K 3.5 GHz
    Graphics card: MSI R6850-PM2D1GD5
    Memory: 4 x 4GB Kingston  HyperX TI  DDR3-1600
Hard Drive: Crucial M4 128GB SSD
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Power Supply: Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W
CPU Cooler - Antec Kuhler 620
I have a feeling it may just be a setting on the machine; but it doesn't make sense that the output works with the supplied DVI to VGA connector, but a straight DVI to DVI cable won't display anything on the monitor.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank

  • Quick Short Test & Review of X58 PRO-E

Here is an upgrade version to the entry level X58PRO motherboard that MSI has to offer before. Model name is “X58PRO-E” and this was introduced to solve the High IOH Temp that other users encountered before with the X58 Pro. The chipset & VRM heatsinks are now screwed on the board thus making a good contact for better & fast heat dissipation. Don’t get worried  also for the price because this would be still around 10k PHP and if paired with a good i7 920 processor (priced around 13-14k PHP) you will own a system which would be great for video editing, graphics processing & gaming as well (SLI or Crossfire can be done on this motherboard ^^ ). On the other hand, if you are an overclocker like me. It is very easy for the board to overclock the i7 920 to 4ghz at a minimal voltage increase and few bios tweaking.
So here is a shot of the box and its contents
    •Four Sata Cables
    •One IDE Cable
•Two Molex to SATA power Adapters
    •1x Cross Fire Bridge

I was able to get a good bclock 222 also with the i7 920 C0 I have. I guess if I used a D0 stepping instead , I can push the bclock higher.
    Final Thoughts & Conclusion
I was very impressed on the capabilities of this entry level X58 motherboard can do. A few tweaks on the cell menu I was able to get high memory clocks and all were stable. You would also notice on one of my shots running the memory @ 2100mhz, my uncore ratio turned to a high of 4200mhz speed. All of these were done all on air.
    Pros :
    - Cheap Entry level X58 Board
    - Easy to overclock
    - Support SLI and Crossfire
    - No issue on Bigger aftermarket CPU cooler
    - 90 degrees placement of SATA & IDE ports
    Cons :
    - No SLI Bridge included in the Box

I wish mine were that low...  I just built a machine with the X58 Pro-E, all stock, no overclock.  Mine idled at around 80c.  I removed the heatsinks, scraped off the pink gummy stuff they used, put on new thermal paste, and reattached using two red fiber washers at each screw to increase the heatsink pressure on the chips.  It now idles at around 66c.  It is much better, but still not near the 50c that you're seeing.  I wonder why?  My case is an Antec Nine Hundred Two, with great airflow.  I also moved my video card down a slot so the cips weren't covered.
Can someone else using the X58Pro-E board post their IOH temps as I want to change out my X58 Pro board before summer arrives.
I am not prepared to attempt to remove the heat sink and if other people are still getting 80c IOH temps, which is what I am getting and it is winter here at the moment, then it will be a waste of time me paying to have my board replaced.

  • MSI R6850 low 3dmark06 score

Hey, I build a new PC about a month ago and I noticed that my graphics card isn't reaching it's potential about 16463 3DMarks. I didn't figure out how to put my specs below but I'll post them here.
Motherboard: MSI 785GM-E65 bios version: 2.BO
    Processor: AMD phenom 2 x6 1055T 2.8ghz
    Memory:
    Module 1
    2048 MB Kingston DDR3 @ 667 MHz
    Module 2
    2048 MB Kingston DDR3 @ 667 MHz
    GPU: MSI R6850 PM2DIGD5 driver version: 8.801.0.0
At first the results were way worse, I couldn't even play a game like CoD:Black ops, then I noticed the motherboard didn't detect the CPU and gpu decently so I updated the bios and got major improvements. But I have this feeling that something is still not the way it should be and I cannot figure out what it is.
CPU get's detected as 800MHz btw, but I guess that's just AMD's cool & quiet? It's not like I cannot do anything with this score, but if I'm overlooking something here please help.
    Thank you in advance.

my 3Dmark 06 score was 17409 and that was with the MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5. (single card not in CF).
You have the 6850 (16463 3dmark) vs 6870 (17409 3dmark) and the Screenshot ? HD6850 or  HD6870 ?  (16983 3dmarks). Average to above Average Scores depending on PC System and any OverClocks of CPU.
My old CF setup of HD 3870's 3Dmark 06 High score was (17988 3dmarks).  Meaning 1- HD 6870 is very close to being as good as 2 - HD 3870's in CF.
So imagine what you would be getting with 2- HD 6850's in CF.

Any help would be awesome as im kinda annoyed its not working. • I have an HP2000 and it fails to boot. The HDD test passes, Run in fails at DST Short Test

My sons laptop has always had weird issues with turning off by itself, very slow graphics update, and the wifi constantly dropping out.  Last night it stopped booting.  I cant get it to boot with any method.  I opended up the back and verified the connections are intact at the HDD and the ram.  I pulled the HDD and verified it is spinning up.  Put it back together and it still fails to boot or enter the diagnostics window.  I left it trying to go into diagnostics and after 15 minutes nothing came up so I left it on and went to bed.
This morning it was at the diagnostic window and I ran some tests.  The HDD test says that it passes all tests.  When I try the run in or start up tests, it fails DST Short Test.     Does this sound like a failed hard drive?
I dont have any discs with this machine, can I contact HP for back up discs.  Anyone know the cost?
    Thanks,

    Hey,
The short Disk Self Test ( DST ) error would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

  • MSI R6850 cyclone fake advertisement

    Hello.
I bought a MSI R6850 cyclone power edition OC and before doing that, several websites (related directly with MSI) said that I would get a free copy of the game DIRT 3. That was one of the reasons why I bought this card, and I feel pretty disappointed with that because I haven't found the way to receive that game so far.
I changed from Sapphire to MSI because of the great reviews I found about MSI products on guru3D.com, and when Sapphire promised me a free copy of DIRT 2 years ago they kept their word.
    links:
    http://sites.amd.com/us/game/games/Pages/dirt-3.aspx

    http://www.msi.com/news-media/news/1252.html
    Thanks for reading.
Please excuse me for my broken English, I'm still learning it.

*Due to regional differences in product and inventory, other application(s) may be bundled with MSI graphics cards. When making a purchase, be sure to select a MSI graphics card box with a "DiRT 3" sticker attached to ensure that the full game activation code for " DiRT 3" is included.
What I put in above is at the very bottom of the MSI news media link you posted.
You got one (older stock) without the sticker on the box or the offer simply is not available where you live.
You need to ask the people at the store where you purchased the card.
     No fake/false advertising at all.

I live in india and I want to buy msi R6850 PE/OC 1gb ddr5, it is not available at my local dealer, i found it on amazon.com for $173. if i purchase it from there will i get the warranty on the product in india too?

Most probably no, but ask your reseller

  • MSI R6850 Cyclone PE/OC No signal, loud fan

I bought an R6850 Cyclone PE/OC and installed it. The first time I booted I got video but my computer froze (I thought, now it seems it just takes a very very long time to POST when I had the DVD drive connected) so I turned it off. The next time I booted (after disconnecting the DVD drive) there was no video and the fan on the card went at full speed but it would boot into Windows.
At first I thought it was a PSU issue so I changed to a better one (XFX 550W) but it is still the same. I tried with my old card and it works just fine. I've also tried clearing the CMOS, reseated the card, made sure the 6 pin power cable was connected, different DVI outputs but still no video.
    My specs are:
    Motherboard: Acer MCP73VE
    BIOS: American Megatrends R01-C2
    CPU: Intel Core2Duo E4700 2.6ghz
    Memory: 2x1GB DDR2-800
    GPU: MSI R6850 Cyclone PE/OC
HDD: 500gb WD IDE, 320gb Seagate SATA, 80gb Seagate IDE
    OS: Windows XP Pro 32bit
    PSU: XFX 550W Core Edition +12V~44A, +5V~24A, +3.3V~24A

Ok, i'm on another PC now and the card is working fine. It must not like the chipset on my old motherboard or something.
Anyways, the only issues i'm having now are stuttering with some games but I think I can fix that by updating Catalyst.

  • MSI Z87-G45 external test build - no flash screen with 2 G.Skill Ram sticks

Hi guys this is my first build and I'm encountering this issue on my test build.
    I'm using MSI Z87-G45 MoBo, G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory, i5 4670k
RAM is only working one at a time. Both sticks work. They do not work alone in DIMM 3 or DIMM 4.
Any advice on what to do? could it be speeds/timing of the ram? this is my first build so any help is greatly appreciated!
I see that G.Skill sticky post, but since this is a test build outside of the case I don't have a keyboard attached or really any knowledge of how to alter the BIOS.

new ram - Corsair Vengeance... no luck.
    any other ideas?
time for a new mobo? it has to be the mobo right? cpu?
One or the other. CPU can be ruled out if you know someone who can test it for you on another known working board. That leaves the mainboard as faulty. You could try a PSU power cord removed, battery removed for a short time, clear CMOS and try again with a RAM stick in DIMM2.

  • Dv6 HDD failed short test, was able to factory restored to create USB MR but not working

I have not upgraded any hard ware on the laptop,
One day my laptop did not started and only showed a black screen, after doing all tests from the HP Advance System Diagnostics. it showed that the HDD fail the Short DST (wich indicated that the HDD wasnt good anymore or it was about to die, wich I hoped it was this last explanation as I never created a revovery disc for this laptop.

I did a factory restored to see if it can revived it and it worked so I was able to create a USB Recovery Media successfully.
Ordered a replacement HDD (actually the Seagate Hybrid 750 GB 7500 rpm SSD/HDD Momentus XT)
Once got the new HDD I installed it, booted the laptop from the USB Stick containing the Recovery Media, but got the error: "The system recovery discs do not support this computer.
You are not able to restore this system with these discs."
when visiting the HP support site, It tells me the following
"This error can occur due to the following conditions:
Using the wrong recovery discs, such as those that were created or ordered for another computer." (not my case)
"The configuration data on the motherboard or hard drive was not correctly configured at the factory when the computer was manufactured."  (might be but will explain what I think about this one)
"The motherboard on your computer was replaced with a motherboard that is not the same replacement part. If so, you must install a new operating system or replace the motherboard with an original type." (same as 2nd explanation)
The first explanation is not my case because I did created the recovery media from the same laptop "Computer"
The 2nd and 3rd Might explained why I cannot use the USB Recovery Media, but I shouldnt had the same issue when doing the Factory Restore from the factory or refurbisher installed HDD? since it basically install all drives and software nedded for the laptop to work? ( I consider myself as an average computer user, not ignorant but and expert )

    Hi:
Sometimes the recovery media doesn't work for one reason or another and there is no one size fits all answer.
As i see it you have two options:
    1. Order a set of recovery disks from HP.
    2. Make your own plain W7 installation media if you can read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook.
Option 2 will normally give you a much peppier PC, free of bloatware, but you will not have any of the programs that came with your PC that you may want.
Or you can use option 2 to get your PC up and running until your set of HP disks arrive.
Here are the instructions to do that if you want.
Download the W7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit iso file from the link below and follow the instructions to use the Microsoft ISO to USB tool.
Make sure you get the whole file to download. Make a note of the advertised size and compare that with the actual file that downloaded. Sometimes it states the download was complete but the whole file isn't there.
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.

Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers and available software you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • MSI R6850-PM2DAGD5/OC everything EXCEPT the Driver installs

Multiple installations of the latest Windows 7 64 bit driver from the AMD site, the MSI site, and using "Update Driver" button from Device manager, as well as an attempted installation of previous versions of the same driver from the AMD site produce the same result:
ATI install manager finishes with errors, showing that the driver installation failed. I've unistalled, run driver cleaner, rebooted to safe mode, run driver cleaner again, rebooted and ran a fresh install with the same result. Everything in the Catalyst suite EXCEPT the driver installs.
Device manager accurately labels the card as AMD Radeon HD 6800 series, but on the properties tab shows (Driver Date: 4/19/2011, Driver Version 8.850.0.0) shows  "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
On reboot, a dialog box pops up reading:
"No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware."
Any guidance or is this and RMA situation? I can't get this card to perform correctly at all, and I know the slot is fine because I have a Gigabyte 6850 that I can install and uninstall at will.

I took the card over to a buddies house and tested it on his two Windows 7 rigs (listed below). He ran the driver packages and then performed the windows 7 performance testing and after about a minute, the screen turned off and a "no signal" message appeared. We repeated the cycle (restarted, reload drivers, reran Win7 test) and the same thing happened again. Another thing we noticed is that Everest wouldn't detect the card.
So, on my machine, Windows device manager shows the card as a 6800 series card with and error exclamation point/triangle next to it, and shows in properties tab that Windows has stopped the driver/service because there is an error with the device. On his machines, Everest doesn't dectect the card and the card stops working consistently.
