MSI R6870-2PM2D1GD5/OC problem in 3D

Hello,
I would like to ask your help that my card could work properly.
My computer spec:
Asus M5A78L /USB3 (newest BIOS)
AMD PhenomII X6 Bulldozer
Kingston 2x4 Gb DDR3 Ram 1333 Mhz
I use Win 7 x64 Pro.
When I try to run a game or just run the windows inside test, the monitor goes black and then the Win say "Display driver amd driver stopped response and recovered". My index of the card is only 2.0:(
The properties of the card are factory default, I don't change anything, and I don't oc it neither.
Pls help me.
George
Ps.: Sorry to my english, it isn't my native language.

how many percent are you sure, that it is the problem?
With this budget and cheap PSU, its high chance to be the source of the problem.
But even if problem persist, you should replace this peace of junk[in my eyes] in all cases

  • R6870-2PM2D1GD5/OC total height?

    Hi,
Would any body be able to tell me the total height of the HD 6870 OC please?  This one here - http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R6870-2PM2D1GD5-OC.html
I've got a Lian Li V350, and my current graphics card an MSI GTX460 Cyclone doesn't fit into the case because the heat pipes are too high.
Looking at the picture on the website the heatpipes on the 6870 don't seem to go too high up, but I'd just like to make sure before I order myself a card thanks.
    Thanks.

Quote from: Bernhard on 11-September-11, 04:42:00
Your linked page has that information
Go to the Specifications tab and the second last line in the specifications states:
    Card Dimension(mm) 245 X 115 X 35mm
It also says that the Cyclone height is 110.1mm, which is simply not true because it's ~140mm when you measure it including the heatpipes and not just the PCB.
Quote from: Henry on 11-September-11, 04:52:31
You mean your case is too narrow for the Cyclone and the cooler hits the side of the case? If that's the problem then the HD 6870 OC will fit just fine.
No as in it hits the top.  In the V350 the hard drives are in a section above the graphics card.

  • [HELP] MSI 6870 dual monitor problem

    mobo: asrock 970 extreme 4.
    procesor: phenom x4 965.
    PSU: Seasonic 500W SS-500ES 80 Plus Bronze.
    ram: Corsair CML4GX3M2A1600C9B (2x2Gb) DDR3 .
    monitors: benq GL950A.
    VGA: MSI R6870 HAWK Twin-Frozr-II-OC 1gb.
    OS: WINDOWS 7 64bit.
i want to ask, how to dual monitor with this card? the second DVI is not work.. i have the benq GL950 with VGA connector and i use VGA to DVI-I(single link) - ( this is main the display), and the second one is acer x173w, and it has VGA connector too.. then i bought DVI-I(dual link) connector for the acer x173w, so i place benq GL950 with on the top slot, and the acer x173w on the second DVI slot. But the second monitor is no signal, and i tried to detect the monitors on windows 7 64bit, but windows cant detect it.. and the problem is still same.. no signal, and the screen goes blank after it. i have tried reinstall driver but the problm is still same.. help me please.. im so stressed with this..

If you could find a real ADC to DVI-I adapter, it would work, but the Dr. Botts ADC to DVI adapter
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Dr%2E%20Bott/ADCDVII/>
will not work with a DVI to VGA adapter. It does have a dual-link DVI-I connector, but the pins for analog video (and dual link) do not connect to anything. They use this connector because some non-Apple digital displays come with DVI-I and/or dual-link DVI plugs, when they only need DVI-D signals. The Dr; Botts adapter and (all others that I have seen) are only ADC to DVI-D. Even if they connect the dual-link pins from the ADC to the DVI connector, the result will be single-link DVI-D, since no ADC cards provide dual-link signals. There is no reason (other than cost) why an adapter couldn't connect the analog video signals from ADC to a DVI-I connector, but I don't know of any that do.
    From their web-page:
"DVI Extractor II makes an ADC-compatible display out of virtually any third-party flat panel display"
    Note they say "flat panel".
You need an ADC to VGA adapter. They are listed from $40 to $150. Still less than a compatible replacement graphics card, although you can get a card faster than you current one, if you pay enough.

I've just upgraded my computer with buying a new GFX card (R6870) new ram (DDR3 1600mhz) and a new motherboard (asrock p43de3)
Everything is working when powering on, there is no signal to the monitor however.
    Tried already:
Checked all cables. Using 1x 6pin connector in both spots on the gfx card.
Tried with a backup GFX card, ati radeon 19xx and it worked perfectly, so it's not the motherboard.
I just tried putting in a chassis speaker and i get 2 very fast beeps, pause 8 fast beeps, pause, 1 beep.
I have tried with minimal hardware connected (No hd's, 1 ramblock, no cd drive, fans etc)
It shouldnt be the power supply, my old card (Inno3d geforce 8800 GTS used around the same amount of power according to specifications)
I havent got a newer computer to try the GFX card in, is it even compatible with my asrock motherboard? (I know it should be due to it having pci express 2.1)
    Is the GFX card DOA?
Help much appreciated, been struggeling for +10 hours now..
    Thanks in advance

In theory, yes, the P43-C51 should support the R6870, since it has a v2.0 slot (problems have been mostly with the v1.x slots). That's something you'd have to test though, to find out for certain.
I don't work for MSI btw, if that's what you thought.

  • MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II Random Crashes

    Hello,
I have had an MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II video card for the past year, and it has been operating without problems for most of that time. I have been slowly upgrading my computer over past 5 years, but keeping the same motherboard and CPU. A few months ago I started having issues with it:
While playing video games or browsing the internet the video drivers crash and recover after a few seconds at random times, approximately once every half an hour. 30% of the time, the card crashes and doesn't recover at all, with a black screen, prompting a restart of the system.
Last month I have rebuilt my PC: kept the same the video card, 750W power supply (both 1 year old) and all my hard drives. I reinstalled the same version of Windows 7. I made sure to take precautions against static in the process. However the problem persists.
Because I have my power button set to a restart, I am able to have the computer perform a soft reboot every time when the screen goes black, rather than forcing a hard reset, so to me this means the new CPU, Motherboard and RAM are working OK. Also on occasion switching my monitor cable between the two DVI outputs brings the image back.
Here are some of the other things I have tried so far unsuccessfully:
Updating the motherboard and bios drivers to the latest version
Using a tool to delete and reinstall latest ATI drivers (12.9)
    Using ATI beta drivers (12.11b)
Using both windows and 3rd party memory check tools (both came back OK)
Changing RAM settings from 1600 to 1333.
Underclocking the video card (although it runs pretty cold and I have a dedicated fan installed right underneath it).
I will welcome any other suggestions.
    Thank you in advance,

Here is an update on my situation:
I went out a bought a new PSU, Antec HCG-620M, but the problem didn't go away. I'm still trying to keep up with the latest drivers. However most games that require high performance (i.e. Witcher 2 out of the older, more stable games) remain unplayable due to fairly regular random video card crashes. Older games with lower specs play fine though. I have also been running SpeedFan in the background and have seen an occasional spikes in the video card's operating temperatures (as high as 81C) but crashes occur at any temperature.
    Help would still be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • MSI R6870 (2PM2DIGD5) dual-screen capabilities.

Good afternoon. I am having some issues with my graphics card, which I was hoping someone here could help out with.
I decided upon a new system a few days ago, and seeing how the R6870 is a very nice card for a very nice price I decided upon that one, also keeping in mind the option to expand later in life using Xfire. I've been building my own systems since I was 12 so naturally I decided upon that. Preferring to spend an hour assembling the system over waiting two weeks for someone else to get around to it.
The issue is as follows: DVI port 2 does *not* give off a signal (bottom one when the card is built in). Not even during bootup.
    The setup:
    Code: [Select]
    MoBo: MSI G70A-G54
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 (2.8Ghz)
    GPU: MSI R6870 2PM2DIGD5
    PS: Coolermaster SilentProM 700W
Both screens are connected with a dvi-vga adapter
The system is a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
    What I've tried:
    1. I swapped the cables around. Whatever screen is on port 1 works flawlessly.
    2. Updated the drivers.
    3. Booted in safe mode.
    4. Went to the shop and got myself a new graphics card (same type).
    What I suspect:
    1. The card is not capable of running two screens through a dvi-vga convertor? (would be pretty sad for a brand new card)
    2. It needs to be connected to the power supply using seperate cables for both of it's connectors? Is it that big of a drain on power? Could this be the cause of my problems?
Is there anyone here that has had similar issues, or knows someone that had, and has a solution for me? All the shops are closed for now, but if this isn't fixed by monday I'm afraid I'm going to have to go for a different brand, this is getting really annoying.
    Hoping for a quick reply,
    -- M.

Not the perfect testing setup, but currently have the card running in a windows vista 64bit machine. It also has an MSI Mobo and a Phenom CPU. Just slightly older types.
I can get dual screen on this setup, but only if the second port is connected WITHOUT a dvi-vga convertor. Two VGA monitors still doesn't work which makes me think this is something that just doesn't work with this card.
The crashing problem could not be simulated.
I'm severely tempted to just exchange the graphics card for a different type, unless anyone has a better suggestion?

  • MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II/OC annoyng artefacts

Hello. I've got a strange issue with my radeon 6870. Every time i play a game a small white flashes appears in random area of a screen. From 2-4 mm (Crysis, Bulletstorm and Fallout 3) to ~ 1-1,5 cm (Napoleon: Total War).I cant post a screenshot because it happens really fast  (just like someone hiding in a trees with a camera). In Crysis 2 and Bad Company 2  instead a small dots a large transparent nearly visible spots  appears from time to time.
    My spec
    AMD Phenom II X4 945  // Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H rev 2.1  // MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II/OC (factory overclocked to 920MHz core)  // 2x2 Gb DDR3 1333 Samsung  // 500Gb SATA-III Western Digital WD5002AALX // 1 Tb SATA-II Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 // Thermaltake Toughpower 600 W // Pioneer optical drive // Coller Master CM690 II Advanced. Windows 7 Ulimate x64
All components are running at their stock speeds. Max GPU temperature i've ever seen ~78 celsius
I've tried overclock and downclock my VGA, fresh Windows install, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4 EP with no effect.
Maybe someone have got any ideas how to deal with that?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there
i Have a MSI R6870 Hawk graphics card and havent really had any trouble until two days ago, when i noticed my fans had stopped.
I do have MSI Afterburner and the newest driver (and tried to reinstall both)
i've had a look at the card and tried fiddling with the fans without any luck.
Sometimes they move a littlebit and yesterday i got them to run for a couple of hours (without actually doing anything as far as i know)
do you know what i should do to make them run proper again?

Looks like they died what can happen. If still under warranty rma the card to fix that or use an aftermarket cooler like Accelero Twin Turbo II

  • MSI R6870 Hawk graphics issues

Hello, I built my new computer a couple of days ago, with a MSI R6870 Hawk in it.
Two days ago I played Left 4 Dead 2 with the highest settings (something I would never have dared to do before) and the computer didn't even flinch, I was amazed. However, since yesterday I noticed some very annoying checkerboard-like artifacts flickering at first in TF2. At first I thought it was because TF2 files were corrupt or what have you, but whatever I did, these artifacts wouldn't disappear, and have now spread across various other games. Links to screenshots below, however they do not show the full flickering.

Of course, the newest drivers are installed and everything. Checked with MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z, and temperatures are around 50-55 °C for all sensors after one hour of gaming, so I don't think it's overheating. No improvement after reinstalling the drivers.
    Any help?
Other info about the system: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Intel i5-2500k, Asus P8P67, 8GB RAM, etc.

You got me wrong, respectively I left out a step in my logic. I could find out what's wrong with it on my own and I would find the cause, fair enough, and I didn't rule out that I wouldn't do it. What I meant was that in case it turned out to that the clocks were too high in its out-of-the-box state, I would not be satisfied with the product, considering that I would have dished out the money for this card only to have it clocked down. That's what I meant with counterproductive. Yeah, probably the wrong word indeed but you get the message.

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • MSI R6870 gets boiling hot and PC won't start!

Hi, i've had my MSI R6870 hawk for just over 6 months and it was always working fine until a few days ago. The computer basically started to reboot when I played a video game or movie etc. then played the typical 1 long 3 short beeps. Then it just won't start. After unplugging and testing each single part inside the pc. I realised the GFX card itself was getting too hot-- as soon as the pc switches on the right side of the card (facing the fans) becomes boiling hot and you can hardly lay your finger on it. The rest of the card seems to be at room temperature. Both fans seem to be working normally and I'd cleaned the the card with a bottle of compressed air not long ago so there shouldn't be dust or anything blocking the cooling system.
I've searched online for answer and so far there's nothing so I realise this is not common. Although i'm not 100% sure I don't think my PSU is failing at all otherwise the lights on the GFX card wouldn't be on or the fans wouldn't work at all. My personal conclusion is that the card is overheating beyond its capacity therefore the PC detects a failing video component and won't start. But I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Thank you very much in advance for reading my post.
