MSI R7970 Lightning vs MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr III OC 2 GB
Hey
I am looking to finalize my new build, however I am having a hard time deciding between these two cards. I will be doing some overclocking of course:)
Which path would you recommended, AMD or nVidia?
Thanks!
GTX680s are out of producation for quite a while. ebay is your only hope so far. Shops that still have GTX680s are often selling those at totally insane prices. A 780ti would be a better idea. SLI strongly depends on driver and SLI profile support and may feel laggy despite high fps. One high-end gpu is always better than two lower classed cards in SLI.

Help flashing UEFI bios for my GTX 680 Twin Frozr III 2GD5/OC
Hi,
I am very new to flashing graphics card bios, so i need some instructions as to how to update my bios to the latest UEFI GOP version. I am using a Z77 platform with Windows 8 Pro and I'm looking forward to the super fast boot times
Here is my current bios file: **http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/434943/GK104.rom**
Here is my serial number: 602-V282-020B1205147435
My model: MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr III 2GD5/OC
Thank youI have followed the steps you said, but had a few hiccups on the way:
1) when i was flashing the rom, i was told in the command line dialog box that the pci vendor identification/verification was mismatched, i was prompted to override verification and i pressed "y". Is that ok ? In total, i had to press "y" 2 times as opposed to once as said in your instructions.
2) After flashing bios, I restarted and disabled CSM (compatibility mode) support. My PC booted fine and i reached the lock screen. But when i entered the password, I was introduced to a black screen with only the cursor showing over it. Then my pc crashed with the error IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO
3) I restarted and logged back again, but was introduced to the same black screen again, but i could gain access to the control panel with CLT+ALT+DEL and it was filled with error reporting tasks. I restarted the third time and finally could log back in without any crashes or black screens, but windows came up with a prompt that it had run into an error and needs to report it.
I am suspecting that it had something to do with the driver or the verification.
PLEASE HELP. Thanks -

I'm interested in getting a UEFI bios for my 2GB GTX 680 Twin Frozr OC.

MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr III OC edition
Hey guys,
First post and I know it's a bit of a long shot but does anybody know where I can get one of these cards.
Have one already and have been very happy with it so I want to go SLI. Don't want to buy a new 780ti or whatever as I know I can get a cheaper 680 and get the same if not better performance by going SLI with what I have.
I know you can mix and match brands but I really want 2 of the same. Have looked on Ebay and they do pop up now and again but just wanted to know if anybody has any ideas, or even has one in a box that is unused.
Thanks

Msi Gtx 680 Twin Frozr, cold boot noise
So about 3 out of every 10 times I turn on my computer, it sounds like one of the fans running at full speed or something, it's very loud.
I dont know what it is . Its like rattling noises, grinding noise only on cold boot. When Windows start then all is quiet. I think its from graphic card.
Sometimes all is quiet when i boot pc, sometimes not. Its very rarely , and only when i booting pc and when windows start all is quiet.Quote from: xmad on 16-October-12, 23:01:43
Perhaps some clarification is in order.
Is the fan spinning at full speed sometimes or making funny noises like the fan isn't spinning correctly.
You have two entirely different discriptions going on here. Running a full speed is one thing, grinding or vibration noises are another.
While it is working correctly use afterburner to increase the fan speed to 100%, there shouldn't be any rattling or grinding or anything. Same thing at start-up, they may goto 100% in reverse to clear dust, but they shouldn't grind or rattle.
You say: "Same thing at start-up, they may goto 100% in reverse to clear dust, but they shouldn't grind or rattle."
But Msi Gtx 680 Twin Frozr III dont have that feature. <--- I have that card. Only Gtx 680 Lighting got it. -
MSI nVidia GTX 560ti Twin frozr III loss of output
Hi folks,
I recently needed my monitor to test another rig and upon plugging it back in I discovered my MSI nVidia GTX 560ti Twin frozr III no longer has video output, I have tried different outputs, different cables, different displays and different motherboard slots to no avail. Had a search around and couldn't find any other instances of this. The card is 2 years old now but has always functioned perfectly (apart from the well publicised memory temperature problem). Any ideas what might be causing this issue?
Regards,
hotrats
Specs:
Windows 7 PRO SP1 64bit
AMD FX-8350 8 Core Black Edition Processor 4.57gHz OC
ASUS M5A99X EVO Motherboard R2
MSI nVidia GTX 560ti Twin frozr III
Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3
Thermatake 750W Evo_blue 2.0
I'm assuming drives and case aren't the issue so not listing them. The card is 2 years old, but how long wasn't it used for and did you ever had any problems with it?
First of all, I would reset CMOS >>Clear CMOS Guide<< so all the OC is removed (write down settings of CPU OC if you want to use it later on).
Then (I don't know Asus boards) would look through the BIOS if it recognises the card. Possible you should get rid of the possible dust in PCIe slot?
Also: while card is plugged in, run computer and: try all the video ports, even those on motherboard (maybe board doesn't recognise the card and wants to run integrated gpu if there is any).
Last but not least: ask a friend/colleague if you can test your card in their computer. Best if it would be different brand of motherboard, and power supply. Possibly power supply is screwed up somewhere (broken connection)and doesn't deliver enough power to give output.
Does the card start up when you run the PC (fans of the card)? -

No, that is not possible. These are totally different cards. They have a different custom design with a cooler totally different and the GAming offering profiles that can't be used with an ordinary N660 TF 2GD5/OC -

Geforce GTX 570 Twin Frozr III PE/OC and BSOD
Hi,
I have an MSI Geforce GTX 570 Twin Frozr III PE/OC which appears to be causing system instability (graphical corruption upon boot i.e before windows), and BSOD. It typically occurs from a cold boot resulting in BSOD after the Windows logo. This will occur 2-3 times. The system then runs stably.
I have tracked this problem down to this card when running at x16 mode in my primary PCIe slot (slot 2, x16_1) on my motherboard. It does not occur if the card is in slot 5 (x16_2) where it only runs at x8 speed (2.5Gb/s rather than 5Gb/s). This does not occur if I place a borrowed Geforce GTX 260 in the primary PCIe slot (it runs at x16 fine and causes no such system instability).
I have tried out various mobo BIOS updates, checked all my system files, updated (and rolled back) my NVIDIA drivers, and checked my memory for errors with Memtest 86+. I cannot find any updates to my video card BIOS.
Can I assume the card is faulty, or does anyone have any other possible solutions?
Spec is:
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel I5-2500K
Asus P8Z68V-Gen 3 mobo
8Gb Corsair DDR3 1800 mem

Its a Corsair 750TX V2 (750 watt). I am also running 1 SSD, 2 hard drives and a blue-ray optical drive. You don't think its too much for the PSU do you?
The PSU its plenty enough

No I haven't tried it on another computer and I don't think its very likely I'll get the chance.
there is not much options then, except to RMA the card and to hope the problem to be there.

[Tech Help Needed] GTX 660 Twin Frozr III 2GB SC Fan Stops Working
Hello everyone.
It's extremely rare for me to have computer issues, but this time it happened.
MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr III 2GB SC, and here's the issue:
Whenever i turn on the computer the gpu fans spin for around 5seconds and after that they stop, for now they seem fine since i'm usually idling for the 1st 30minutes or so, but when i start playing games the gpu temperatures skyrocket to around 60-70 idling in-game and the fans just won't start working, yes the the psu cables are connected to the gpu, bla bla ( duh ). i've had the gpu for around 2years and it worked fine but all of a "sudden" the fans just seem to not work and it starts getting very high temperatures, i've read someone complaining about the same issue and he was told to replace his gpu bios with some uefi bios and he said that the uefi update solved his fan issues which were the same as mine.
Now my problem is, i've never done that "Bios Flashing" and things like that and i don't know if my Board is compatible. If it worked for that person then it should work for me since the symptoms are literally the same. I've tried uninstalling the gpu drivers completely and installed again, the issue still persists.
If it's of any reference i own the following setup:
MB : ROG Asus Crosshair IV Formula
CPU : AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE
GPU : MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr III 2GB SC
RAM : 2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaw X 1600Mhz
PSU: Corsair GS 700 Gaming Series ( yes its more than enough and good enough )
I've literally had no problems whatsoever with my system for a few years now, and just like that the fans don't want to work, i can play games and what not, but at around 70ºC with no fans running ..... i've tried using MSI Afterburner to boost the fan speed, the fan speed setting gets set but the rpm stays at 0. i also made it to run on windows start and its still at 0 RPM.
Will the uefi bios solve my problem like it did to the other person with the exact same issue?
Thank you for your time spent reading, hopefully it will be solved.Still no reply after 2 days, impressive support right there ... every other post that came after got replied ...
Anyway, if its also relevant about my issue :
- Fans briefly spin after i press the power button to turn on my computer and stop right after around 3-5s and never spin again until i shutdown and power on again for the same brief spin.
- If i force the fans on Afterburner to 90% or above ( 100% ) they spin and make unsupportable noise.
Also if its of any relevance :
N660 TF 2GD5/OC
S/N: 602 - V287 - 050B1302044857
At least provide me with the most up-to-date uefi/gop vbios or whatever that is, to see if it fixes my problem, otherwise recommend me a substitute cooling system that i can use ( a good one, not 3rd rated ) to replace the stock cooling in this because i don't have the money to get another card, and if i get one it won't be from msi for sure.
Very dissapointed. -
Unstable GTX 570 Twin Frozr III OC
My brand new MSI GTX 570 Twin Frozr III OC is unstable. When under load suddenly the sound hangs and the GTX shuts down for a second and the screen goes black. After this it works again. Some games can handle this, but with others I'm back @ desktop.
My rig:
- Intel i7 2600K
- Asrock P67 Pro3 B3
- Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4GB
- Cooler Master Powersupply Realpower Pro 700W Modular
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)
Is this problem due to the known stability issues and should I have a VBIOS update? If so which one, because GTX570 Twin Frozr III OC isn't on your BIOS update list.Back again...
Today I installed a new PSU (Corsair GS700 single rail with 56 A over +12V) and started playing Bioshock 2 because the error used to occur the most often playing that game.
I played half an hour feeling more and more relieved when suddenly..... same sh*t happened.
Windows crash report had the following to say:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Bioshock2.exe
Application Version: 1.0.0.1
Application Timestamp: 4d9fc504

I think we can rule out that it's a PSU problem. My mobo, processor and RAM are also new so maybe the problem is not the card. I already tested the RAM with memtest with no errors.
I will try to find another PC to test the card in. Can I do something else to maybe test the motherboard or processor? -
GTX 570 Twin Frozr III POWER Edition
Hey guys,
i just got the GTX 570 Twin Frozr III POWER Edition and i love the card but it seems to run quite loud at fan speed above 48% so i made a custom fan control in afterburner
and the card runs at 71C - 75C under full load in games(crysis2, witcher 2), are those temperatures too high? if not what is the max safe temp i should be running at?
thank you =]Quote from: Henry on 31-July-11, 05:13:04
Those temps are normal under a heavy load, nothing at all to worry about.
some people said i can lower the fan speed and just let the card run at 80C, so my last question is:
Is 80C under load an acceptable temperature to run this card at for let's say 4 non-stop gaming hours a day?
and thanks for reply ^^ -

Help gtx 680 twin frozr whining
Hi everyone. I've recently built a new system with the following specs
Fractal r4 design
Z87x d3h motherboard
i7 4770k
Antec true power new 650 watts
And gtx 680 twin froze with 2gb
My only problem seems to be bad coil whine however this never occurs during stress tests like furmark. Normally it occurs in games like doshonoured when I don't cap the fps to say 75. Even worse is StarCraft 2 particularly during the campaign. Constant loud whining. Is there anything I canto fix this? And why doesn't it always occur when the GPU is stressed and only in some programs? Thanks in advance. Thanks for the help I do remebeber in my old system with a HD 7850 sapphire oc and the same antec to 650 PSU there was a mild level of coil whine during the menus of oblivion and also in dota. Now with the 680gtx its gotten worse in dota and sc2 and has stopped in oblivion strangely. Could this point to the psu being more likely the issue? Or is whine in GPUs a really common thing?
