MSI R9 270X 2G Gaming artifacts

I have artifacts and random graphical glitches in games.
These tend to occur after gaming for at least an hour.
I believe I have the latest vbios (here is a rom pulled from the card via GPU-Z: mediafire (dot) com/?3cj808ylqdi11my) and have tried many drivers.
I have included some screenshots below to give a quick look at the issue. I get the issue at R9 270 clock speed (900 core, 1400 mem)

Registered after this thread came up with a google search as I have the same problem(Not so much the giant obvious ones, but the smaller group of clear boxes as seen in the second BF pic).
I know it's a few weeks late, but try downclocking the memory to 1200 and check. I have the same issues and that eliminates it, and it seems quite common with this model of MSI cards. I think they had a bad batch of memory or just used old 7870s and overclocked the memory instead of using a quicker part. I would RMA it, but you may still get the same issue with an identical replacement.
I tested 3dmark 11 for like an hour and anything over 1200-1250 memory(same memory speed as a many 7870s) causes issues.
Yes with with other words all MSI r9 270x 2G are corrupted... so MSI need to give our money back or make a fix for us.. I have pay a lot of money for this card and send 3 RMA's and still get this issue with the new card....... The store don't want give my money back and said that i need contact MSI Well im reading this forum and see many people have the same issue!
MY Power supply is 800WATT Enermax so thats not the problem of this issue..

  • Problem installing / using MSI R9 270X 2GB Gaming card

I am a newbie here. I have just built my new PC, but I can't seem to get my MSI R9 270X card to install and work. I am not sure if this is a motherboard or graphics card problem. I know a little to build the PC, but I am not expert. So help would be great.
This is the spec of the PC:
    Asus Z87 Pro motherboard
    Intel i7 4770K CPU
    Corsair Vengence 16 GB DDR3 (CML16GX3M2A1600C9)
Samsung SSD Pro 256GB System drive
Western Digital Black 2TB media drive
Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 650W PSU
    Lycom Firewire card (PCIe x1_4)
    Plextor BD/DVD
    Windows 7 Pro x64
So when built, last week, everything seems to work OK. Then I was using the Intel GPU, but I need a graphics card for video editing. I am not a gaming user. The Asus motherboard reports a post BIOS Q code of "A0".
To the best of my knowledge I have the latest BIOS and Windows updates and drivers.
I have put the MSI graphics card into the PCIe x16_1 slot. I have made sure it is seated well and that the 2 power cables are connected to the PSU (20A @12V)
When booting up the PC the BIOS "bleeps" several times and I get an error message saying that "The memory address is insufficient due to Intel Thunderbolt resource  consumption". The motherboard does not have Thunderbolt as far as I know. That PCI slot is shared with ECHI#1.
Somehow, I got the card to install yesterday without that message. I installed the latest AMD driver 12.13, but the Catalyst Control Center did not show up. The MSI card showed in Device Manager as working with no conflicts. The MSI Utility showed the Core Clock working at 300MHz, which seems very slow.
I have tried re-installing, but still no luck and today got the BIOS message back and it would not go past that message. I have removed the graphics card for the time being so I can use the PC.
So I am not sure if this is a motherboard issue, or a faulty graphics card or my fault?
It seems crazy if you can't have a graphics card and other motherboard resources switched on. Someone has suggested turning off the built in WiFi and Bluetooth controller. I have not tried that yet because I need them.
    Any help appreciated.
This is my first post here and can't find a way to attach a screen shot to help. Is that possible?

    Thank you for the reply.
I cleared the CMOS by using the motherboard jumper. I did not remove the battery.....I hope that is OK.
I removed the Firewire card. This did not have a power cable connected to it. I assume that might be OK as I am only using it to capture DV from my camera. It was in a PCI slot that was not shared with the graphics card though. I do need this card to be working if at all possible?
I re-booted and entered the BIOS. The clock had not cleared but everything else seemed to be back to default.
I powered down and fitted the MSI graphics card.....it passed the BIOS OK. I had previously removed all traces of AMD/ATI by un-installing and manual removing from folders and registry.
I then installed the latest driver and Catalyst Control Center. The log file said everything passed, but the CCC still does not show up. Any idea what could be happnening here?
So far, so good but since I need this PC for my editing, what should I do about the Firewire card?
P.S. I also need the Intel GPU to be used as well for Quicksync use. I assume i will have to reset that in the BIOS?

  • MSI R9 280X 3G Gaming artifacts and freezes

I just bought a 2 month old MSI R9 280X 3G Gaming card. After I installed the card my PC didn't POST, so I went into the bios and resetted everything to default. Then again my computer didn't POST. I checked the bios switch on the graphics card, it was set on position 2, I switched it to position 1 and my computer booted into Windows. I installed the catalyst drivers and started to play some games. It went quite bad, I had artifacts, game crashes and overall bad performance.
I read out the bios version on switch position 1 (the one that does work), this is ver. 015.040.000.000.003435. I flashed the bad bios version on switch 2 which was version 015.040.000.003.003435 with 015.040.000.000.003435.
After the flash I was able to boot windows on switch 2. Still I do have performance issues with games, like artifacts and game crashes.
    My S/N is 602-V277-38SB1312093272.
Can you guys help me out with this?
    Thanks in advance!

Alright, I tried to flash my bios to E7681.430 with the USB DOS tool available on this forum. After my computer booted the USB stick, I was prompted to do a memtest. It hanged, so I wasn't be able to memtest before flashing.
I download the last version of memtest86+ 5.01 and tried to memtest test 5 and 7 for 20 loops, it passed with 0 errors, so it seems my system is stable. Then I copied your provided BIOS to my USB stick and tried to flash it with M-flash in my current BIOS. M-flash wasn't able to recognize this file, so I won't be able to flash it.
So with not be able to pass memtest (only my own downloaded memtest86+ v5.01) from the MSI Bios Flash Dos tool and not be able to flash a new bios with M-flash. I'm not sure what to do next, I won't try the Windows flash option, because of this https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=177335.0  topic.
On the other hand I looks like I need to update to version 4.3 for me being able to use the r9 280x card.
Can you give me any advice about what steps to take next? Thanks in advance.

  • MSI R9 270X 2G-BF4 Artifacts and Jitters

    Hi,
I get intermittent artifacts with my new MSI R9 270X 2G BF4 card and I was wondering if there is a fix for this. Previously I had an ASUS 6950HD and never experienced this issue.
After installing the video driver Catalyst 14.9 I get artifacts on desktop (2D) as well as in game (3D). To rectify the issue, I have to change the desktop resolution to a low resolution and then change it back to 1920x1200. After doing this, everything works fine. Sometimes restarting the PC also fixes the problem, although not very often. The artifacts happen on PC startup and is very intermittent. At times I don't see this problem for days.

When installing the latest AMD driver Catalyst 14.12 the screen also jitters rapidly. Is there a fix to this or is it a faulty card?

A vbios update does not help in 90% of cases. Run the Gaming APP in OC or Gaming mode and see if that helps: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/gamingApp.zip
If not add S/N and save the current vbios to file, upload it to some file hoster and add link here.  If not allowed to post links yet, mask it by XX at beginning and end (e.g. XXlink.comXX)

And yea there is no new Vbios available... And AMD is in SLAX MODE with making a NEW DRIVER!
So HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ?? I can't switch my video card in store everytime they will think ?? AGAIN! WITH THE SAME PROBLEM!?
And you know I'm not the only person that is angry on MSI with this corrupt VIDEO CARD MODEL!
Maybe (you MSI )need to ask all MSI R9 270x gaming 2g (With Serial number XXXXXXXX)back from costummers and give us a new one without PROBLEMS for free!
I WILL REALY BURN MY VIDEO CARD WITH FIRE! AND BUY NEVER A MSI AGAIN! If there is no solution for this corruption..

This is a USER to USER forum and no one from MSI is here so you will get no reply from them by posting on this forum >>How to contact MSI.<<
if you want someone to help you please supply us a list of all the parts your using please! (if you have had Multiple cards and all are showing artefacts something else is going wrong could be RAM, Driver (13.12 is usually the most stable as the 14.xx versions have some Bad bugs in them) or a Faulty PSU (if its not the RAM or Drivers then its usually that))
Also between installing drivers please wipe out the old ones completely using this >>Driver Fusion<< in safe mode to clean out any fragments the normal AMD un-installer leaves behind like Regestery keys and Profiles ect!
so please follow this >>Posting Guide<< and give us a list of the parts your using please!

  • MSI R9 270X Crashing

Hello I have been using my R9 270X for almost a month now when I started to notice that at random intervals the entire card will crash leaving the screen full of artifacts and forcing me to do a hard reboot. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers. After a crash and restart, the screen will flicker black and stay like that for almost 30 seconds before returning to normal.

Does the card crash under load or also in idle?
On idle, it's totally fine. However under extreme load (3D mark tests or intense scenes in games), I will get the crashes.

  • MSI R9 270X instructions?

    Hi,
On another thread here I have posted about issues installing my MSI R9 270X 2GB Gaming, but I have a separate question now. That thread is here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=177399.0
The card just came with a quick install guide.....should there be any sort of manual?
I have been reading on the forum about VBios which I know nothing about. I see that this R9 270X has a DIP switch. What does that do?
I should add that I don't game, I bought the card for video editing render and reviews said it was fast and quiet.
Just wonder if my problems with getting to work with my motherboard is anything to do with any settings that I should adjust?

they just come with a quick start guide and that's all!
as for the DIP switch that is a VBIOS switch as they have 2! (Legacy and GOP or Legacy and  backup copy of that)
turn off your PC and flip the DIP switch as it may be in GOP (Windows 8 Style VBIOS for fast boot) and you may need to be in legacy mode so try it in the other position then its in now!

If you want to try another psu any Corsair single rail psu from 550W and above would be fine. Recommended is Corsair VS Series VS650. Quite cheap but plenty of power for your system. It offers 50A on a single +12v rail.

  • MSI R9 270x gaming 2g - artifacts

    Hi!
I've just upgraded my pc a week ago, and my actual setup is:
    Motherboard: MSI h97 pc mate
    GPU: MSI R9 270x gaming 2g
    CPU: I7 - 4790
    PSU: Tryteck 550w
    Ram: 12 gb DDR3 Kingstone
    HD1: 240gb SSD Kingstone
    HD2: 2tb Samsung
    OS: Win 8
I was all happy and everything, and then...after some minutes of playing those weird flashing square appeared....
they spawn even on img viewer...
i've tried installing the latest MSI driver, but the problem was even worse...then tried the latest AMD driver (14.4) and the problem softened a little, so that it happen a little less often than before, but it's still happening...."MSI Live Update" say that i already have the latest vbios, so i can't even try updating it.
The shop where i brought all my new pc's parts say that it may be the psu, not capable of powering everything as it should...
I can't try out an other, more powerful psu without buy an other one and i want to be sure the problem is really the psu, before buying an other one...
Anyway, sometimes they happen as i enter a game, sometimes they happen after i play for hours...and sometimes they just don't appear at all O.o

Bios is outdated and should be updated as you are also using a Haswell refresh cpu. Use the following and don't use Live Update as it bricks boards.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (180.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt10_mb.zip

Yeah, you provided the wrong S/N... It IS 602-V303-03SB and not 602-V303-02SB as you said, no wonder the confusion (and although I already asked..). Hence you have a regular Gaming and the provided vbios is definitely correct. If there is a switch on the card it is to switch between legacy and UEFI/GOP vbios (no middle position).
