MSI R9 270x OC edition black screen

Hi all I've had the r9 270x for 3 months now and it ran like a champ. I ran Sims 4 the day it came out and worked for what seemed 30 mins and I come across a black screen.
Boots up fine but at login screen I get the same black screen. I've gone as far as formatting my computer several times.
I had it in PCI express 3.0 x16/x8 slot 1
Here are my specs.
Mobo:  Asus ROG Maximus V Extreme
PSU: Antec HCG-900
GPU: MSI Radeon r9 270x OC edition
CPU: i7 3770k
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8gb x2
Any type of help would be appreciated :(

Does the computer work with the integrated GPU? Have you tested the vga in another machine or can you?

It is unfortunate that this is a problem that repeat this often.
I bought the card in February 2014 and been running perfectly until a few days ago came the famous "black screens" to load the drivers, I've tried everything:
    - Completely clean installation S.O. W7 x64 with Catalyst drivers v13-12 ---> ERROR
    - Completely clean installation S.O. W8.1 x64 with Catalyst drivers v13-12 and the new bios Hybrid for W8 ---> ERROR
    - Restore backups S.O. (W7 x64) where the card working properly ---> ERROR
    - With the default drivers S.O. Catalyst drivers without the graphics card works perfectly but is useless for games.
I came to think that it is a hardware error and therefore RMA process.
This is the last step I can take before RMA, if no solution with a new vBios these

  • MSI 290X LE Lightning Edition black screen problem

I recently bought the above graphics card, only to run into problems with black screen, furmark blackscreens when it reaches just over 70c & games that push the card ie Crysis 3 also causes black screen problems, I'm also sometimes getting desktop corruptions, usually after it black screened.
My PSU is a 850watt EVGA SuperNova G2 so i know it's not that what causing the problem.
rest of my setup as follows
    3770K @4.2Ghz
    MSI Z77 Mpower
    8GB corsair memory
    ect ect.
Any idea's as to the cause of the problem?
edit here what it doing I've uploaded it to youtube.

First of all remove any oc. Then list specs more detailed: >>Posting Guide<<

  • MSI N580GTX Lightning Extreme Edition (Black Screen / Reboot)

    Hi everyone !
    Here's my computer specs :
    CPU: Intel I7 870 (2.93 Ghz)
MoBo: Micro ATX from my Dell XPS Studio 8000
    Memory: 6Go DDR 667 Mhz
    PSU: Corsair HX750(w)
    Windows 7 Pro 64 Bits
    My problem :
80% of my games (Crysis 1 & 2, Bulletstorm,...) & benchs (3DMark 11, MSI Kombustor, ...) crashes after few seconds. My graphic card goes off, black screen, and then my computer automatically reboot. I've tried another PSU, same pb, and my Corsair HX750 is new. So I wonder if the problem is from my graphics card or my (dell) motherboard ? But my config has the minimum required by MSI.
    My temporary solution
After few tests with differents drivers, I've try to change the Core Voltage, no result... So I decided to downclock the GPU freqs.
In order to have something stable to 100%, and be able to run all the games and benchs, i've to downclock the GPU like :
    Core Clock : 600 Mhz (Original : 772 Mhz)
    Shader Clock : 1200 Mhz (Original : 1544 Mhz)
    Memory Clock : 1730 Mhz (Original : 2004 Mhz)
    Its a big loss frequency!
Hope a new bios will come out to fix the bug.

It's only unstable when i'm use the GPU (Games & benchs), not HD videos.
Most games/bench crashes with default clock @ 1.031v. I tried to overvolted & undervolted the GPU, but my tests were not conclusive. The only way i've found to have all games/benchs stable is to downclock the GPU as I explained in my first post.
Maybe i need a more accurate GPU voltage ? Is it important to change Memory & Aux voltage too ?
have you tested with 1050mV for core?

normally not, but depend what exactly is unstable
But it should work fine by default as is

  • MSI 7970 Lightning GHz Edition, black screen problem

    Hi all,
I am very dissapointed on the MSI product now. I bought MSI 7970 Lightning BE GHz Edition, when I don't overclock the graphics card and play games I will get black screen or sometime I will get message that "AMD graphics card stopped responding". So I bought a 950W PSU but still problem is there. If I underclocked the card at 600MHz both GPU and memory clock I don't get the problem. But what's the point of having this card paid $500 for nothing. I am so fed up with this card. Please someone help....
    My System Spc :
    Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard
    16GB RAM
    Core i7 3770
PC Power and cooling MKII 950W PSU
    Thanks.

watch the attitude! you have got a faulty card it happens occasionally as all manufacturers have a 1-3% defective rate not just MSI so do not start with your bashing as its against the rules here!
there are hundreds of individual parts on a board and any one can go bad causing a problem so if you are going to bash anyone bash AMD's GPU's as that is the most likely problem here on the card and MSI do not make those so keep your "I learned a lesson about MSI... it's a piece of junk" to yourself  !

  • MSI R9 270X Gaming 4G Black Screen of Death after driver install...

So I recently updated the drivers and AMD catalyst to the newest version. After doing that and restarting my pc, it will load to the Windows loading screen, then to the black screen of death. When I restart under last known good configuration, I can start windows, but I don't have the drivers installed.  This is a fresh install, and no matter what I do, it ends in the same result. I've tried restoring the PC, and I can start windows again, but again. No drivers.  I can't find an older version of the drivers that worked before.  I'm just frustrated because I have 2 of the cards, and a quad display. But i can't use them...  After researching, I found that this is a common issue, But I can't seem to fix it.

From your post in another thread I guess you tried 14.4 from MSI site. Use latest official AMD one (14.12) instead: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%208.1%20-%2064

    Good afternoon,
I am the proud owner of 2 x MSI R9 270x OC edition 4gb cards, One is working a treat, the other is not.
When I use on of them, I get the boot screen (the one with the option to go into the BIOS), then I get the Windows logo, then nothing but a black screen, output from the card is detected by the monitor (green light at the bottom instead of stand by) but nothing else. the other card works perfect on its own.
They are both detected when I run windows in safe mode.
This also happens if I run crossfire on both cards.

  • MSI Z87 GD65 - Hangs on black screen with 9C at bottom right

Pretty much what the title says, 'MSI Z87 GD65 - Hangs on black screen with 9C at bottom right'. Does anyone have any idea why it does this? It hangs for a while before eventually continuing with the start-up, this is most frustrating when I have an SSD and want a quick start-up. I have already looked it up in the manual to no luck. Help?

9C last for me like 1 to 3s, depending on the amount of USB devices attached.   If I have only USB printer, keyboard, and mouse attached, it shows for roughly less than 1.5s.

  • MSI 6850 OC Edition Black Screen when playing Crysis Warhead

Random crashes in Crysis Warhead DX10.  It also happened once in Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath DX9.
I get a black screen monitor turns off and the sound goes buzz the system then hangs.  The reset button wont work.  The MSI LED BIOS code displays C2.   Power off then on.  The system is stable 2 hours Prime95 CPU only hits 150F.  Ran Furmark GPU stable test 1 hour.  Turned the fan to manual and set to high the gpu stays around 70c with Furmark GPU.  Memtest overnight.  No problems.  Tried CAT 10.12 10.11 10.10 the MSI downloaded version.  Nothing.  Clean drivers out.  I updated SPTD to  1.75 from per another posts advice.   Seems something is really wrong with the drivers and rendering certain objects reboots the card.  The card is rock solid on stablity tests and Futuremarks benchtests.
Nvidia Physx game driver uninstalled.  Still crashes
Now testing it with SPTD uninstalled.  Running tests have my doubts.

2 hour test ran.  No errors.  Seems like a wimpy test.  The GPU Temp never went over 42c.  360-370 FPS.
Already ran a 2 hour test with Furmark GPU with out errors or artifacts. 2 hour CPU only Prime95 test.  Memtest over night.  System is stable by all accounts.  Just when playing some games it will completely mess the system up.
For those MSI motherboard people.  Why would the LED Motherboard light say 2C or maybe it was C2.  Why would the system not reboot with the reset button.  The 6850 card some how goes in to lala land.

  • R9 270X Gaming 2G Black Screen

I have the same problem which many are having. msi r9 270x 2gb gaming OC, Black Screen after catalyst drivers intall. I have tried various drivers, including 14.7 RC1 beta drivers.
First time i installed drivers provided on msi website (AMD_13101_78_vga), those worked fine until once i rebooted after 20 minutes. One thing i did was used the msi fast boot without using fast boot program installed in windows 8.1.
    Things i have done already:
    1. formatted pc many times
    2. used all the various versions of catalyst
    3. Cleared CMOS (removes battery for and hour, shorted for 10 seconds to reset)
    4. done bios flash with atiwinflash in windows with MSI.R9270X.2048.131129.rom 015.041.000.000.003348 (from techpowerup.com); one thing i noticed after using this rom that without catalyst drivers installed, i can see windows recognize that my gpu has 256mb memory which was before only showing 8mb before this bios update. but again after catalyst 14.4 this black screen came back again.
My card serial number is - S/N: 602-v303-070B1404044342,
Please provide me with the bios to use with this card and how to flash it again if atiwinflash is not advisable.
Also tell me which catalyst drivers to use for stable system if not 14.4 or should i use provided on msi site 13.101
And i am using an HDMI cable and even changing to dvi it does show black screen.
    Thank You.
Help me i am completely frustated with this card.

ok i will try gpuz or nvflash and will upload if it doesnt help
I flashed using 015.041.000.000.003348 this bios. and after flashing atiwinflash gave me a message:
    Old bios: (Nothing written here)
    New Bios: 015.041.000.000.003348
All these numbers are 100% useless as these do not reperesent an MSI vbios version.

4.) Be aware that gpu-z screenshots or what gpu-z reads out as bios version are NOT of any use for identifying the required vbios version. While it doesn't hurt to add those when S/N and an actual copy of the vbios are also supplied simply just adding screenshots or version readouts will not get you any further and us having to ask for the required informations.
As Svet already said we need the actual vbios.

have you tried msi vga drivers for your card?
do you have such issues elsewhere?
well i haven't tried using the drive that come within the bundle yet
but as i mentioned before, i did not have any problem playing GW2 and other games
with my previous card (4870) and using exactly the same rig,
so i don't think the problem lies elsewhere,
but i think ill try msi vga driver that i got in the cd 1st,
thanks for your suggestion, ill report again the result later.
tried the msi vga drive (ver. 8.95) that come within the budle
and well... still got the black screen problem.. (tested with guild wars 2)

Uninstall current driver in safemode using >>Driver Fusion<<. After reboot install current MSI driver: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/nvidia_33165_v7864_vga.zip
Did it twice and it still gives me a black screen when going into a full screen on games.

I have just purchased iPhoto 11 , Version 9.4.3, and everythign appears to be ok - except when you try to edit a photo. All I get is the Black Screen.
This problem has been around since at leat 2006 as far as I can see. And still NO SOLUTION. Now come on Apple. I thought you prided yourself on being Customer driven? That's pretty poor by anyone's standards.
None of the so called "fixes" that litter the forums seem to work. It's not a corrupted library in my case. I have only one photo in it right now. I can see the photo at any time, except in Edit mode.
Is it likely that this problem will be fixed any time soon, or have I just thrown away more money? sigh....

What's the source of the image? What colour profile?
BTW: You're not taling to Apple here, just other users.
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback is the route to them.

I've just bought mb MSI H77MA-G43 and samsung SSD830 series.
    I have Windows XP.
I had to have set Sata mode to IDE beforee installing XP because Windows didn't see ssd.
Now it's ok but PC starts slowly. When I press power on button there is a black screen with A3 code and it takes some times(about 1-2 minutes) and next the Windows start normally.
What should I do to fix this issue?
    Thanks for replies.

If you want to install XP in AHCI mode you need to integrate the Intel AHCI drivers into an XP installation disk (with NLITE or XP ISO Driver) or load the drivers from a floppy disk during setup (Windows XP Setup only supports floppy drives/disks for that task, unfortunately).
I know that, I integrated drivers: "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Floppy Driver for 7x series" from that link http://www.msi.com/product/mb/H77MA-G43.html#/?div=Driver&os=XP%2032 but it didn't help. SSD was still undetected, so I change SATA mode to IDE to install XP.
