MSI r9 270x temps question

Well i got r9 270x 2gb couple of days ago. Idle temps are around 40-43C which i consider normal but when put under stress load it instantly jumps from 42C to 72C. I mean it only takes 1 sec to jump 30C. It peaks 92C after 5 mins of stress test. while playing bf4 on 1080p res and high settings temp remains around 80-85C. Remember on high settings gpu usage is only around 85% avg.

Well not every vendor and every card has well spread thermal paste. I was lucky with my gtx770 but on user's forum people were crying it was exceeding 80C, where mine from brand new didn't exceed 72*C So thermal paste is my solution for high temps when it comes to GPUs.
lucky u man

  • MSI KT4V-L temp question

I have a MSI KT4V-L board and I want to know if this board reads the temperature from the thermistor that is below the CPU or directly from the CPU's core. I understood that the new AMD XPs (I have a XP 1700+ Thoroughbred) have a built-in sensor and the boards can read the temp from it.
As software, I use Motherboard Monitor, the latest version.
    Thanks

i figure they read from to core.  the same setup as mine (same parts) with a different mobo the temps are about 10-15C lower.

  • MSI R9 270X

    Hi, I'm planning to buy a MSI R9 270X,
I do have a few questions though,
First of all, I've been reading some topics where people claim that their card is leaking oil.
Now, I am aware of the fact that MSI officially responded to that blaming 'Bitcoin mining'
However I've read from lots of people that they didn't do any bitcoin mining, just some regular gaming and still had this problem?
Can anyone please tell me more about this?
Also, I'm building my system as silence optimized as possible. Which MSI cards are,
But the dust removal technology seems pretty load, how load is this? can it be disabled?
    Help is appreciated,

Gaming cards like the R9 270X do not feature dust removal. It is a feature of Lightning/Power Edition cards.

  • MSI R9 270X instructions?

    Hi,
On another thread here I have posted about issues installing my MSI R9 270X 2GB Gaming, but I have a separate question now. That thread is here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=177399.0
The card just came with a quick install guide.....should there be any sort of manual?
I have been reading on the forum about VBios which I know nothing about. I see that this R9 270X has a DIP switch. What does that do?
I should add that I don't game, I bought the card for video editing render and reviews said it was fast and quiet.
Just wonder if my problems with getting to work with my motherboard is anything to do with any settings that I should adjust?

they just come with a quick start guide and that's all!
as for the DIP switch that is a VBIOS switch as they have 2! (Legacy and GOP or Legacy and  backup copy of that)
turn off your PC and flip the DIP switch as it may be in GOP (Windows 8 Style VBIOS for fast boot) and you may need to be in legacy mode so try it in the other position then its in now!

Reboot again ... go into " safe mode " ... screen works with standard VGA ... uninstall the drivers for the MSI card ( msi.com ) ... restart ... everything works .

  • Msi R9 270X Hawk 2Gb Black Screen

It is unfortunate that this is a problem that repeat this often.
I bought the card in February 2014 and been running perfectly until a few days ago came the famous "black screens" to load the drivers, I've tried everything:
    - Completely clean installation S.O. W7 x64 with Catalyst drivers v13-12 ---> ERROR
    - Completely clean installation S.O. W8.1 x64 with Catalyst drivers v13-12 and the new bios Hybrid for W8 ---> ERROR
    - Restore backups S.O. (W7 x64) where the card working properly ---> ERROR
    - With the default drivers S.O. Catalyst drivers without the graphics card works perfectly but is useless for games.
I came to think that it is a hardware error and therefore RMA process.
This is the last step I can take before RMA, if no solution with a new vBios these

  • Problem installing / using MSI R9 270X 2GB Gaming card

I am a newbie here. I have just built my new PC, but I can't seem to get my MSI R9 270X card to install and work. I am not sure if this is a motherboard or graphics card problem. I know a little to build the PC, but I am not expert. So help would be great.
This is the spec of the PC:
    Asus Z87 Pro motherboard
    Intel i7 4770K CPU
    Corsair Vengence 16 GB DDR3 (CML16GX3M2A1600C9)
Samsung SSD Pro 256GB System drive
Western Digital Black 2TB media drive
Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 650W PSU
    Lycom Firewire card (PCIe x1_4)
    Plextor BD/DVD
    Windows 7 Pro x64
So when built, last week, everything seems to work OK. Then I was using the Intel GPU, but I need a graphics card for video editing. I am not a gaming user. The Asus motherboard reports a post BIOS Q code of "A0".
To the best of my knowledge I have the latest BIOS and Windows updates and drivers.
I have put the MSI graphics card into the PCIe x16_1 slot. I have made sure it is seated well and that the 2 power cables are connected to the PSU (20A @12V)
When booting up the PC the BIOS "bleeps" several times and I get an error message saying that "The memory address is insufficient due to Intel Thunderbolt resource  consumption". The motherboard does not have Thunderbolt as far as I know. That PCI slot is shared with ECHI#1.
Somehow, I got the card to install yesterday without that message. I installed the latest AMD driver 12.13, but the Catalyst Control Center did not show up. The MSI card showed in Device Manager as working with no conflicts. The MSI Utility showed the Core Clock working at 300MHz, which seems very slow.
I have tried re-installing, but still no luck and today got the BIOS message back and it would not go past that message. I have removed the graphics card for the time being so I can use the PC.
So I am not sure if this is a motherboard issue, or a faulty graphics card or my fault?
It seems crazy if you can't have a graphics card and other motherboard resources switched on. Someone has suggested turning off the built in WiFi and Bluetooth controller. I have not tried that yet because I need them.
    Any help appreciated.
This is my first post here and can't find a way to attach a screen shot to help. Is that possible?

    Thank you for the reply.
I cleared the CMOS by using the motherboard jumper. I did not remove the battery.....I hope that is OK.
I removed the Firewire card. This did not have a power cable connected to it. I assume that might be OK as I am only using it to capture DV from my camera. It was in a PCI slot that was not shared with the graphics card though. I do need this card to be working if at all possible?
I re-booted and entered the BIOS. The clock had not cleared but everything else seemed to be back to default.
I powered down and fitted the MSI graphics card.....it passed the BIOS OK. I had previously removed all traces of AMD/ATI by un-installing and manual removing from folders and registry.
I then installed the latest driver and Catalyst Control Center. The log file said everything passed, but the CCC still does not show up. Any idea what could be happnening here?
So far, so good but since I need this PC for my editing, what should I do about the Firewire card?
P.S. I also need the Intel GPU to be used as well for Quicksync use. I assume i will have to reset that in the BIOS?

    TV303HM.141 (LN2)

Please note: I and another user had issues with the Standard TV303HM.131 BIOS not working in UEFI mode despite the LN2 working fine, so if you could let me know if it works for you that would be extremely helpful in diagnosing compatibility issues between boards etc

  • [REQUEST] UEFI/GOP vBIOS for MSI R9 270X Hawk

    Hello guys.
Could anyone please hook me up with the latest UEFI/GOP vBIOS for my MSI R9 270X HAWK and instructions on how to install/flash it?
I'm going to convert my Windows 8.1 Pro installation to a UEFI with SecureBoot installation so need the vBIOS for the same.
    Here are the required files/information:-
    Model - MSI R9 270X HAWK
    S/N - 602-V303-02SB1311009978
Current vBIOS - 1drv(dot)ms/1u2mShL  (Replace (dot) with .)
    Thanks in advance! :D
    Regards,
    Yash Shah

    Use the attached.
    TV303MH.131 is normal vbios, TV303MH.141 is LN2
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (131_141.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.131 or TV303MH.141) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.131 / TV303MH.141 to 131.rom / 141.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 131.rom (or 141.rom) [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

Might be either compatibility issue (since your system is pretty old), PSU or simply defective GPU. See above ^

  • MSI R9 270x HAWK - Image output un-sharp/smeared

    Hello MSI,
I purchased a MSI R9 270x Hawk from my friend. The GPU is working fine in games and still has warranty.
Sadly I'm noticing some weird things regarding image output that I can't explain really well. I went ahead and made some pictures with my phone:
    *It's desktop wide*
    What I've tried:
    - Re-install Windows
    - Installing a older AMD driver version
    - Replaced the VGA cable
    - Tried a different monitor
The only thing my friend should tell me (Got no proof if he actually did it) is that he he said that he had updated the bios with a newer version which increased performance(?).
I haven't seen this problem before or had it with my previous GPU which was a Nvidia 9800GTX+. Hopefully the MSI forum is able to help me out.
According to MSI Live Update the current GPU version is: TV303MS.134
    Edit:
GPU-Z says the current bios version is: 015.041.000.000.002887 (113-C6310100-X15)

  • Request : MSI R9 270X vbios

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new MSI R9 270X 2GB card and I'm having a lot of "flickering" problem since I use it. First it started after using MSI AfterBurner to get the most of it (OC proved stable after two hours of MSI Kombustor stress test with max temperature around 75°C). Strangely not while in game but in his idle mode (300/150MHz). The flickering occurs on the desktop, while using web browsers (tried 3 of them) and sometimes the screen goes wild for no apparent reasons and I have to restart the computer. Since I OCed it, my first thought was to bring it back to its normal mode (1080/1400MHz) but even his this idle mode (150/150MHz) I still got the flickering. It disappear while in game but even if I use the MSI Gaming App (OC and Gaming mode to avoid the idle mode) I still get the flickering. I still own an old HD 5770 and have no flickering with it. Tried to use both and I still have the flickering if the R9 is the primary card. I also used DDU to uninstall all AMD drivers and reinstall the R9 with no changes.
Here are the S/N and GPU-Z info :
Thx in advance for your help.

While I was looking around on the web for people with same issue, I decided to try something else. I uninstalled everything that was GC related, used only the R9 270X and installed the MSI version of the drivers. So far I don't have anymore flickering (even when OCed). Still, I'll need the newer vbios just in case since I know it was only temporary for some people. Will post here any good or bad review about this trick. I just hope it'll hold since I was thinking to buy another MSI R9 270X and that will wait until I'm sure the flickering is gone for good.
