Msi R9 280x Gaming 3Gb, texture flickering BF4
Hey people,
I got texture/screen flickering with my new MSI 280x Gaming 3Gb after playing the campaing in Battlefield 4 for around 20-40 min. I'm using the latest AMD 14.4 drivers. In Bf4 all graphics settings are on Ultra (vertical sync off).
I don't know if a rom could affect this weird behavior but here is my current rom: lalalalas://www.dropbox.com/s/48618erlvh4gvyy/Tahiti.rom (i am not allowed to post links.)
I recorded a short video with Fraps. This is the hidden link on Youtube: lalalaa
Temperature was around 71 when recording the video according to GPU-Z. I have read that these cards can go up to 85-90 degrees, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Vbios is latest (TV277MH.350). Try disabling CPU core parking as some users reported that it solves such flicker issues:
http://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php
Thanks for the suggestion. I already have some core parking function disabled in windows and in BIOS, because it could disturb any audio recording in my music software (no power saving, EIST, C1E, etc...). However, this software is new so i will try and test this out.
Is 79-80 degrees normal for this card while playing a game? This is with room temperature around 19, a Coolermaster CM690 iii with 2x 200mm fans, 2x 120mm fans. No cable cluttering and other heat sources are 4 Hd's, but there is plenty of airflow. The fan speed is sometimes keeping temp around 79 Degrees and other times the temperature goes up to even 87 while the fan speed is not even close at running a 100% (for example at 52%).

None of that is a bios version. We need a link to a copy of your vbios saved to file and uploaded to a file hoster to check if there is a newer version. If not allowed to link yet add a break to the link so it is masked being a link.

Others reported that too when using the same card. If unlocking won't work (>>How to use MSI Afterburner<<) contact MSi about it as there seems to be an issue: >>How to contact MSI.<<

UEFI is aGOP compliant vbios that allows to use secureboot/fastboot (Windows 8/8.1). If not using UEFI booting it doesn't matter which you use. Older mainboards with UEFI but not being GOP compliant on the other hand won't work with a GOP vbios and only the legacy vbios allows to use the card. -

MSI R9 280X GAMING vs MSI R9 280X GAMING BF4 edition
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there is any hardware difference between the MSI R9 280X GAMING and MSI R9 280X GAMING BF4 edition.
I already have an MSI R9 280X GAMING BF4 edition and I want one more that is identical. However the retail price for the "none BF4" is cheaper.
Please advice.Hi,
There is no difference in hardware. The BF4 version has a code to get a copy/download of BF4

I've purchased this card about a month ago from Newegg and it's been great so far. The only problem that i have is when navigating through windows. Maybe it's just from using my browser but I've notice the screen to flicker when i'm in the browser scrolling or watching videos. I have turned off hardware acceleration, used MSI drivers, beta drivers, and the latest drivers but this still happens from time to time. I don't think the card is an issue itself because i do not notice this when I'm in game. I believe the R9 280x 6GB that i have comes with the latest vbios already so i am not too sure if MSI currently has anything to remedy this issue. Apparently this has been an ongoing issue with R9 cards. So not sure if it is the R9 line of cards itself, the drivers provided by AMD, or the bios installed on the cards. RMA won't fix this issue as it is a widely known problem throughout all manufacturers of this line of cards.

Yeah, I got the same issue. Windows 8.1Pro (64bit). Same card (6GB).
If I'm on the desktop and I leave a game running in the background and sometimes when using the browser displaying videos and/ or flash video ads, I get what looks like a screen shift. The picture flickers or jars upward/ downward. It reminds me of something you might have seen on an old CRT monitor when you hit the degauss button, but not quite as bad. It's like some kind of vertical screen refresh or something and looks like someone smacking your monitor from the top while you are using it. The only way I know how to fully re-produce it, at will, is by running my Unigine Valley benchmark in the background and then proceeding to do things on the desktop. It's definitely not heat related because my GPU temp can be at 33c or lower and still doing it. If I leave my Elder Scrolls Online game running in a background, depending on what's happening in the game, it can do it in this scenario too. -

Decompress the attached .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (xxx.rar) and put the included file (TVxxxxx.zzz) on that stick.
Rename TVxxxxx.zzz to zzz.rom.
Put the atiflash.exe from: https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2306/atiflash-4-17/
on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 zzz.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios. -

Hello, I've recently bought an MSI R9 280X GAMING 3G video card and so far it works very well without any problems. However, having read some pretty nasty things about it overheating, coil whining, and fans going all wrong, I thought it might be a good idea to update vbios.
According to GPU-Z my current one is 0.15.040.000.003.003435 (113-C3865000-G77)
Is there a later version of bios for my GPU? Because MSI Live Update says no. Thanks in advanceQuote

If all is fine there is nothing to do. Either you have problems or not. These issues won't appear suddenly.

That information is useless. We need your card's S/N and a copy of the current vbios. However as said above if everything works don't bother with updating vbios just to update. -
Need UEFI/GOP Bios MSI R9 280x Gaming Bios1/2 no Gop
Hi Hallo!
Please UEFI/GOP Bios for MSI R9 280x Gaming (Ultrafast Boot Win 8.1)
serial number: 602-V277-19SB 130 90 97 395
Bios: 015.039.000.001.003331 (113-C3865000-G77)
Bios1 and 2 - no gop bios - Ultrafast Boot do not work
thanksThere you go: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=173931.0;attach=12208
Eventually that is not even needed. it should be possible to switch between two versions with a hardware switch and one should be GOP compliant. -

MOVED: MSI R9 280X GAMING 3G - flickering, artifacts
This topic has been moved to GAMING Graphics Cards.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251318.0Quote
ust passed 3D Mark, no artifacts during the whole test - full load was around 96-98%, highest gpu temperature 85°C with fan running at 2400 rpm max (70%) - according to the GPU-Z/HWinfo.
But after this test has passed, graphic artifacts appeared on the screen in "2d" (in windows, low core/memory speed and temeperature but small squares were everywhere flickering like crazy).

Until now, I´ve tested catalyst 14.12 (omega drivers) and 14.11.1/2, artifacts are still there (in games).
