MSI Radeon 5770 Hawk installation problems

Working on a new build. I installed everything and fired it up. Everything seems to be properly powered, as all the fans are running and the lights on the case and motherboard seem to all be working properly.
However, when I connect my monitor, there is no signal input. The fans on the video card are functioning, so it must be powered properly (right?). This monitor does work -- I use it daily with my laptop as an external monitor.
Any tips?

If you take out the video card, does the machine start beeping when you turn it on?

  • My Radeon 5770 Hawk is getting pitiful overclocks

I bought a 5770 hawk so I could overclock it far. But, my card barely overclocks. Is this normal? The core can only get up to 910MHz stably on stock voltages. The stock clocks for the card is 875MHz. Is this normal? I can overvolt it to 1.25v and get up to 945MHz, but when people overvolt it that high, they normally get to 1GHz, and those are on the normal reference models. The Hawk is supposed to overclock like crazy.
The stock voltages of the card also seem to be higher than most cards, it is at 1.2v instead of the normal 1.125v that I usually see for most 5770s.  I tried to put the clock and voltage settings back to reference levels(850MHz/1200MHz @ 1.125v) and it wasn't stable under OCCT. Does this mean anything? If my gpu isn't stable under reference clock rates, no wonder it can barely overclock.
Can there be something wrong with my mobo or psu or something preventing higher overclocks? I'm using OCCT with error checking enabled to check the overclocks. Can that be a reason why it is not getting as high? Most people only use Furmark and visually check for errors, even though when you do that you easily can miss dozens of errors that are not visible to the human eye.

I know a lot of people are going to give me hell about my psu, since I have recieved hell about it many times in the past on internet forums, but just to let you guys know, I closely calculated everything, looked up tons of articles, and spent weeks looking into it before I made my purchase and I'm 100% sure that my psu can easily handle my system.
My system is a Dell Studio XPS 435MT.
    It comes with
    i7 920
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    1 640GB HDD
    ATi Radeon 4850
    1 DVD drive
    1 Case Fan
    360 Watt Delta Inc PSU
Before you goes go in on the Delta brand of the psu. Rest assure that they make quality units. They are the guys who make Antecs Earthwatts PSUs and their Signature psus. And they also make a lot of psus for companies like Dell. Johnny Guru reviewed a few Delta psus and he says that they make quality units. The psus they make for antec Earthwatts line are better than the PSUs Seasonic made for Antec.
Now the psu has lasted for over a year with the Radeon 4850. The radeon 4850 nearly 50% more energy than the 5770 Hawk
    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/HD_5770_HAWK/28.html
These results have also been confirmed with various other Radeon 5770 cards from many other review sites. So if it works with the 4850 for hundreds of thousands of people with the same Dell model, it will work for the 5770 which consumes a lot less energy. Other people with the same Dell model have said that their systems used only up to 290Watts when under full complete load, and this is with the 4850 that draws way more energy than my 5770. And they measured their energy from the wall sockets which means that the actual energy the psu is supplying is less since you have to factor in psu efficiency. My system despite the unusally small psu is more than enough to power my system.
My power supply can supply 15amps on the 12v1 rail and 16 on the 12v2 rail. It can supply a max of 300Watts or 25amps when both are being pulled from at the same time. Under a normal game the 5770 uses 6.66 amps from the 12v rails, and under Furmark it uses 9 amps. My psu can supply more than enough energy to my gpu even with the i7 which uses up to 10 amps from the 12v rails.
Now, when overclock, energy usage increases. Yes that is true but it only goes up a relatively small amount.
    http://forums.atomicmpc.com.au/index.php?showtopic=264
With a 6% increase in clock rate, power consumption goes up by only 4%(When not overvolting). This can also be confirmed by many other review sites. Overvolting does increase power consumption by a large amount if you overvolt too much, especially in conjunction with overclocking.
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gpu-power-consumption-2010_4.html#sect0
    http://ht4u.net/reviews/2009/power_consumption_graphics/index11.php
But if you be easy on the overvolting, you can overvolt and not raise the power consumption through the roof.
I will never overvolt my gpu above .05 higher than the stock. I was able to overvolt my 5770 from 1.2 to 1.25v. That is around a 4% increase in voltage.
    http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpost.php?p=1858205&postcount=1
This also shows that the power usage of a system with a 5770 doesn't go above even 250Watts when running OCCT, and this is when overvolted and overclocked a lot.
The only way for my system to even come close to 80% capacity of my psu, I'd need to be running Prime 95, and OCCT at the same time, and even then my system can handle that just fine. I've run occt for a long amount of time and I didn't get any power issues.

  • Msi 460gtx ti hawk Fading problem.

Hey guys recently purchased Msi gtx460 ti hawk and installed it and while playing games like mafia 2 and gta 4 EFLC the screen was fading like (discolor white black) and it freezes for about 30 to 40 secnds. and then back to normal this happens after 20 minutes from the start gameplay and once this happens then it continues for about every 5 minutes..the card is new replaced once because of same problem.
Using forceware 275.33 and the temps are quite normal as for oc'ed cards..
Is there any problems with nvidia physx or the card itself is the culprit..
this happens only in the games which uses nvida physx..

switch to msi's drivers for your card from msi web and retest.
remove current vga drivers 1st with >>Driver Sweeper<< in 'Safe Mode' before install the new one.

RMA the VGA as Henry said
    Small Update:
    two things:
    First:
I noticed that the gpuz, report it when VGA is under load ( furmark )  the voltage  VDDC value the higher value is 0.96, is a low voltage ? 460gtx under load  must be near 1.02 ?
    Second:
My reseller told me that behind the card must have an sticker "void warranty if removed " over OCP protection but the card does not comes with that sticker is that possible ?

  • MSI - NX6800 GT driver installation problem

    Hello,
I've got a tricky problem, i'll try to give as much details as possible, so if i forget something, just ask =)
    My Configuration :
Motherboard : Asus A7n8X Deluxe (first version)
    CPU : Athlon XP 2400+
    RAM : 1.5Gb (DDR Ram)
    Graphic Card : MSI - NX6800 GT (256 Mb)
    Hard Drives : 80GB(Western Digital) and 250Gb(Hitachi)
Ok, i haven't put too many hardware informations because apparently the problem isnt coming from the hardware side.
First, i've been running with this configuration (just without the second hard drive), for a year and a half, on Windows 2000, and it's been working fairly fine. No problems detected.
i've acquired a second Hard Drive a few weeks ago (the 256 Gb one), so i've decided to put a fresh install of XP on it.
Installed XP without any problems, but it's while installing the drivers that the problem popped up.
I've installed Windows XP Professional on my newly acquired Hard Drive (the 250Gb one), and then tried to reinstall the latest NVidia Drivers for the Geforce.
I've first installed the drivers of the motherboard (1.16 from Asus), then i installed Direct X 9.0c, and i finally installed the latest Nvidia drivers for GFX Cards (91.31).
Unfortunately, right in the middle of the installation of these drivers, the screen switched to black, then went to sleep mode (like if there was no video output). Finally the computer reboots, and i have to use the latest working configuration to be able to go back to Windows XP again.
I've tried with different versions of the drivers for the motherboard and for the Geforce 6800 GT, but still the same problem.
So for now i'm still using only my first Hard Drive with Windows 2000 on it, till we find what to do to solve the problem. (and since it works on Windows 2000, the problem can only be a software one).
Thank you in advance for your help!
PS : Here is the detail of the 1.16 drivers from Asus :
This nForce WinXP driver package contains the below components:
    Audio driver 3.14 (WHQL'd)
    Audio utilities 3.07
    Network driver 2.81 (WHQL'd)
    GART driver 2.78 (WHQL'd)
    SMBus driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
    Memory controller driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
IDE driver 2.70 In The Box (WHQL'd)
    IDE driver 3.07 Full Driver
    Installer 3.11

I've already tried the Vid Card on another comp, and it works without any problems there.
I've been making an hypothesis, though the chance that its coming from that is very slim i think.
A bit more than a year ago, there was a storm(pretty violent and really near my house), and my comp was plugged on (though it was shut down). After that incident, 2 USB slots of my mobo were dead, along with one network card on it. But the rest was working fine. So i've been working if it couldnt have affected a bit the rest. I have no idea how it works whn installing new drivers, about the tests it does with the system and hte hardware. But if it tries to take full power on the vid card, it might be that. I dont know how i could verify that though.

  • [Help] MSI radeon 7870 2GB OC problem on MSI - Z77A-GD55

Installed my new GPU onto my  MSI - Z77A-GD55 , but monitor stays in power save mode , switched the GPU to the lower PCI2.0 slot (there are 3 of them) top 2 are PCIE 3.0 and the lowest is 2.0 and it worked , but the problem my GPU Fans cannot fit because of the USB/POWER ON-OFF top case buttons(wires) since its right next to the PCI 2.0 slot.
Bios is updated to the latest version 1.11
PCI-gen3 is on Auto in the bios settings (There is only Auto and Disable) option.
Any one has this issue before?

Did any card before work in the PCI-E 3.0 slots?
Yes my old ati radeon 4670 BUT i had this issue again first time i added the old GPU right as i bought the motherboard  (1 year ago ) where my screen would be in Power save  mode , but i removed my ram , removed power cable to drain power , and my GPU worked , from that i never removed / added anything in my computer (hardware wise) so this problem was here right from the start , the thing is i fixed it the 1st time , but i did had the 1.1 bios (even though i tried installing the new GPU on the 1.1 version and it didnt worked so i updated my bios to 1.11 and still the same issue)
Also as this motherboard has 3 PCI slots 2 are PCIE3 and the lowest is 2.0 (on 2.0 my old/new GPU works fine , devise manager sees it and drivers working aswell) but not on the other 2 PCIEx3 slots , maybe the top PCIE ex3 slot is broken, but the 2nd PCIe3 slot i never installed anything there, and still doesnt work aswell , so i think its either some issue in the BIOS settings
Some bios settings i could find that has to do with GPU

  • Mac Pro 4,1 with Radeon 5770 upgrade audio problem

Today I installed the 5770 upgrate from apple. I bought it from amazon.co.uk.
I installed two cards, one on my 4,1 mac Pro and one on my old 1,1 Mac Pro.
The problem is that I lost the sound card on my 4,1. No audio at all. There is no sound card in the profiler, although when i run Windows 7 64 on bootcamp I can see the sound card, the drivers work but still no sound at all. I rolled back to my 4770 and everything worked as usual. The old mac runs perfectly with the new radeon.
Both macs run 10.6.7 fully updated.
    I don't understand it
    need help...

    Hi There!
Same thing happened to me today installing a new ATI 5770 into a 2009 quad-core Mac Pro.
    Simple answer: reset your PRAM.
There is a switch on the logicboard next to the RTC battery.
Shutdown the Mac with the 5770 installed, disconnect the Mac's power cable, hold down the reset swtich for 10 seconds, re-attach the Mac's power cable & boot the Mac.
If successful you will hear the "RAM is good" chime when booting.
Your audio device will now appear in System Profiler.
    Enjoy your music!
    Regards,
    Dzzineer

  • MSI 560 Ti Hawk display problems

    Hello!
So, I've bought this videocard like half a year ago, and ever since, it's DVI ports havent worked.
I've tried it with VGA-cable and this MSI DVI adapter I got with the package.
The problem isnt in my screen NOR the cable, as it seems to work properly with this (other) computer.
    Why is that?
Sidenote; I used to use an HDMI cable (with the mini-adapter I also got with the package) but it broke because the port is pretty f'd up, as its placed on such a stupid place.

@ OP:  What is the brand and other information of your television?  And if it has a remote, check to see if there a button there that say "SOURCE", click that and see if it lists your sources, if it does look for PC/Computer or something like that.  Check to see you menu on your TV as well if there is any menu listing of "SOURCE".
Emm, does that info matter? As I am playing with this television now, via VGA, with other computer.

  • MSI Radeon RX9800PRO Plus BIOS Problem?

I have the card listed above. When i try to use Live Update 3, under VGA card info it does not detect the card i have. It says this...
MSI Live VGA DriverTM Version: 3.58.000
    VGA Card Information:
    VGA Card Manufacturer MSI
    VGA Card Model Name UNKNOWN
    VGA Card BIOS Vendor ATI
    VGA Card BIOS Version UNKNOWN
    VGA Card Driver Version 6430
Because it cannot detect the Model name and BIOS version Live Update always just says everything is ok and up to date. But i know its not cause i had to manually go to msi site and get latest card drivers. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that i flashed the BIOS before then back, and if so i was wondering if anyone has the original factory BIOS for this card.

Since this is an MSI video card I am going to move this post to the VGA forum where all the experts hang out.

  • MSI R5770 HD Hawk - Twin Frozr II

I brought the 5770 Hawk last year to go into my new build system. Finally upgrading from my old dell pentium 4 system (tight budget).
I built the system on an MSI Motherboard (870AG54), with a AMD 555BE cpu (core unlocked & OC to 3.68mhz). I was still using XP Home until this christmas when I was finally able to buy Win7 64bit.
The issue I always seem to have had, is that I seem to get "glitches" all the time when playing games. Initially I only really had Civ5, Sims2 & Far Cry whilst using XP, but even then I Civ5 was almost unplayable at times because of the glitches on the graphics (flashing pixels, missing sections of screen & green dots everywhere). I put this down the the game due to comments I had read about problems with it, and hoped that once I had Win7 it would be ok. But after installing Win7 64bit, the game is still glitchy (although not as bad), and even Football Manager 2012 has lots of glitches in when veiwing matches. I have just brought Skyrim and although it looks great if you stand still (ish), once you move the sreen goes mental with glitches and it ruins that gameplay.
My apologies for my lack of expertise in this field, but whilst I can build and repair systems, I am not an overclocker or really have much experience in graphics card (apart form buying new ones). Can anyone help me out here? Is it my system or the card? Or am I pushing it too hard?
Tend to play games at 1920x1080 w/o AA due to the card not handleing it.
Any help would be gratefully received.
    Thanks

    My system is as follows.
    MSI 870A-G54 AMD 870 (AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
AMD Phenom II 555 Black Edition CPU (Core unlocked to x4 & OC to 3.68mhz)

    OCZ ModXstream Pro 600w PSU

    Now running Win7 64bit.

    Dear all,
I have 2 MSI HD 5770 Hawk card configured in crossfireX, so far I have no issue regarding this setup in playing games or benchmark.
There is one issue that I want to clarify. Are the 2nd card in crossfireX mode always clocked to the 3d mode?
In my setup my 2nd card always show the GPU and Memory clocked at 875 Mhz & 1200 Mhz --> the 3d clock mode when playing game (but the GPU utilization at 0%) Are the 2nd card always draw power 100% when in this mode (0% utilization but in 3d clock mode)?
I want make the 2nd card have the same clock with the 1st card when idle  (in 2d mode not always in 3dmode). Did anyone encounter this issue and know how to configure this?

  • MSI 990FXA-GD80 / MSI Radeon ATI HD 7870 Hawk / Phanteks combo.

    Hi
I am in the process of building a new system but have, potentially, run into some problems.
The motherboard I am looking to buy is the “MSI 990FXA-GD80” and the graphics card is the “MSI Radeon ATI HD 7870 Hawk”, processor  FX-8350.
    Now to my question/possible problem.
I am looking to buy a third party cooler from Phanteks, the “Phanteks PH-TC14P-RD”.
I know that it will be a tight fit between the cooler and the graphics card normally, and since the Hawk has the “GPU reactor” (which builds the height of the card) my concern is that it would interfer with the Phanteks making it impossible for me to install the video card using the Phanteks.
I was wondering if this combo would work or not, prior to registering here I Googled searched like crazy but came up with nothing.
I would really appreciate some help.
    Best regards.
    Eric

Since that board has two PCI-E slots with 16 lanes you wouldn't have to use the first slot so reactor is not the real issue. The VRM cooler of the board could be more troublesome as the cooler has two towers and two fans.
However I found somone listing a combo with the cooler and a 990FXA-GD65 which should have a vrm cooler of the same height.

  • MSI Radeon R9 270X Hawk - Screen corruption

    Hello,
I dearly ask for your help, I have an issue with my MSI HAWK Radeon R9 270X, after using my computer for a while the screen on the primary/secondary monitor will become unreadable(see the first link), If I switch the monitor off via Catalyst Control Center the screen corruption will appear onto the  other monitor. Maybe the newer BIOS would help, I have the same issue with another MSI HAWK R9 270X. I didn't have any problems with my former video cards (Geforce GTS 250, GTS450, Radeon 6850 and Radeon 7850).
I tried both 13.12 drivers as well as the newest betas 14.1 ,the only difference was the first target affected, on 13.12 the corruption would appear on primary monitor whereas on 14.1 it would affect the secondary one.
Also occasionally I experience the screen flicker issue as well, maybe newer BIOS could solve both of them.

Can't download the vbios from that site you linked to.
None the less >>this<< is the latest vbios
    TV303MH.131 is normal vbios, TV303MH.141 is LN2
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (131_141.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.131 or TV303MH.141) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.131 / TV303MH.141 to 131.rom / 141.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 131.rom (or 141.rom) [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

    Hi,
Am having problems getting my machine to post after inserting a new graphics card: Sapphire Radeon 5770 1Gb.  Have no problems with my old card in the PCI-E slot (X800GTO) - it works fine.  But when I insert the 5770, the machine won't even post.
The core of my machine is ~4 years old, with a MSI MS-7194 RD480 Neo2 motherboard.  I've updated the PSU to a Corsair 650W and as the light on the graphics card is on and ATI recommend a 450W PSU I doubt it's a power issue (and yes, I have attached a PCI-E power lead to the 5770)...
Is the issue that my motherboard is too old? Or is there a newer BIOS for it? I tried the MSI LiveUpdate tool which said there wasn't.
So I'm a bit stumped! Am in the process of putting a new machine together, but can only buy 1 or 2 parts each month - I was hoping to make the most of the graphics card before I had to cough up for a new CPU/Mobo!
All help gratefully received - thanks!
    PS

There has been an on going problem with that model # in general and that brand & model in particular not working on a wide variety of MB's. On some MB's that have 2 16x slots it will not work in slot 1 but will in slot 2.
