  • MSI Radeon R9 280X - Visual bug squares

    Hi,
Since I got my GPU in February of 2014 I've had multiple visual bugs. Flashing lines in flash video players (e.g. youtube)
and flashing squares in the screen. The flashing squares look something like this:
It can happen anywhere on the screen. It also happens with black squares instead of white.
Some people on the internet say that it can be due to the driver version or the GPU clock frequency. I've tried installing all the drivers I could find on amd.com and the one on msi.com. Both had this problem. I've also played with the GPU clock frequency, but that didn't matter at all.
I feel now as if I should have sent the card back when I got it as I had this problem within the first week. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem?
    System specs:
    GPU:  MSI Radeon R9 280X GAMING 3G
    CPU:  Intel Core i5 4670K
Memory:  8GB Ram (Crucial Ballistix Tactical)
    Motherboard: Asus Z87-K
    Current resolution:  2560x1440, 60Hz
    OS:  Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro
Looking at the specs it seems that I'm running a resolution which is too high for a DVI connection.  MSI card specs shows a maximum of 2048x1536 resolution for the DVI connection. Which seems wierd to me as I'm now running 2560x1440 resolution.
Could the resolution be the problem? And if so can this be fixed in anyway while still connecting to a DVI monitor? (e.g. GPU -->Mini DisplayPort --> convert --> DVI --> monitor)

My PSU: Seasonic G-Serie 550 Watt
The specs say the card only has HDMI 1. Should I try to use the Mini DisplayPort?
    HDMI Connectors 1 (version 1.4a)
      Max Resolution: 3840x2160 @30 Hz-30bpp
      4096x2160 @24 Hz-24bpp
    Mini DisplayPort 2 (version 1.2)
      Max Resolution: 4096x2160 @ 50 Hz

  • MSI R9 280X Gaming 6GB Issue

I've purchased this card about a month ago from Newegg and it's been great so far.  The only problem that i have is when navigating through windows.  Maybe it's just from using my browser but I've notice the screen to flicker when i'm in the browser scrolling or watching videos.  I have turned off hardware acceleration, used MSI drivers, beta drivers, and the latest drivers but this still happens from time to time.  I don't think the card is an issue itself because i do not notice this when I'm in game.  I believe the R9 280x 6GB that i have comes with the latest vbios already so i am not too sure if MSI currently has anything to remedy this issue.  Apparently this has been an ongoing issue with R9 cards.  So not sure if it is the R9 line of cards itself, the drivers provided by AMD, or the bios installed on the cards.  RMA won't fix this issue as it is a widely known problem throughout all manufacturers of this line of cards.

Yeah, I got the same issue. Windows 8.1Pro (64bit).  Same card (6GB).
If I'm on the desktop and I leave a game running in the background and sometimes when using the browser displaying videos and/ or flash video ads, I get what looks like a screen shift.  The picture flickers or jars upward/ downward. It reminds me of something you might have seen on an old CRT monitor when you hit the degauss button, but not quite as bad. It's like some kind of vertical screen refresh or something and looks like someone smacking your monitor from the top while you are using it. The only way I know how to fully re-produce it, at will, is by running my Unigine Valley benchmark in the background and then proceeding to do things on the desktop.  It's definitely not heat related because my GPU temp can be at 33c or lower and still doing it. If I leave my Elder Scrolls Online game running in a background, depending on what's happening in the game, it can do it in this scenario too.

  • MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 4GB and GOP UEFI vBios Flash?

I'm thinking about getting a MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 4GB for my HTPC since it's kind of shorter and was wondering if MSI provides a GOP UEFI flash for it or if it's capable of doing so?
    Thank you.

the card has 2 VBIOS's and some have one that is Legacy and another that is GOP already (others have a Legacy and a LN2) so its a 50/50 if it has it out the box!
if it doesn't there will probably be one available as the Rx - 2xx have been around a while now!

  • VGA BIOS for MSI RADEON R9 270 GAMING

Can someone please post me a BIOS for VGA BIOS for MSI RADEON R9 270 GAMING?
I flashed mine with the wrong BIOS and realised to late that the BIOS backup did not actually work. This is the 270 and not the 270x. Any help would be appreciated.

There seems to be none so far: >>How to contact MSI.<<
I removed the other line. Better don't mention the payment method again. Also such reward is not needed. Either there's such file from MSI or not.

A vbios update does not help in 90% of cases. Run the Gaming APP in OC or Gaming mode and see if that helps: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/gamingApp.zip
If not add S/N and save the current vbios to file, upload it to some file hoster and add link here.  If not allowed to post links yet, mask it by XX at beginning and end (e.g. XXlink.comXX)

  • Radeon R9 280X 6GB - Occasional 2D flicker, no matter what I'm doing

Hey, so, as the title says, I have a Radeon R9 280X with 6GB of RAM. Just got it recently. When I got it, I started having a problem with a persistent 2d flicker that would happen while I was gaming or just on my desktop. It happened at random it seemed; some days I would go without seeing it, some days I would see it several times an hour. Thinking the card was defective, I filled out an RMA through Newegg and got a new one.
Lo and behold, same problem. I'm looking for any and all input you guys might have as to what my problem might be, because I have no idea where to start with troubleshooting this guy. I've tried the newest drivers/catalyst and beta drivers with the same results, and I haven't found any vBIOS updates through MSI Live 6.

My card does it too, and I always use ParkControl.exe on every PC build, so core parking is not happening on my PC. If I look in  task manager or Process Lasso, all cores are active 100% of the time...still happens to me though. I hope this has nothing to do with the VRM issues that these cards are known for. I can't imagine anything in my case overheating because I have very large 120mm fans always blowing full blast on my card and 120mm fans taking are out of the case. It's always very cool in there. GPU temp never departs 56c in games.

I have flickering in browser, videos and in one game - Hearthsone, then i have artifacts in one game War Thunder and in Autocad 2014, when I play CSGO there is no issues. Then last 3 months PC freeze - 1x in month = 3x.
I had older driver so I try new driver, but I have still problems.
I have another problem, when I uninstall driver and install new driver, PC dont see GPU so I must reinstall operating system, because how  I found out I must first install GPU driver then MB driver.

    Hi,
Are you able to test this card in different PC? - No.
Also you could update BIOS to v1.9 - I bought new PC with this components 7 months ago and there werent any problems with flickering and atrefacts from begining, so I dont think so flashing MB will help, but I can try.
Did you install MSI Gaming App? - No, should I?
What if you increase/decrease mem and gpu clocks in MSI Afterburner? - When I reinstal operarting system, I dont install MSI Afterburner again, I don´t played with setup, because I don´t know what I should setup and how much increase/decrease things- can you tell me?
So I install MSI Afterburner, there are my settings:
What about flashing bios of graphic card?
PS: So i read forum and found out that using MSI game app can help, but when  I use any of app mode I have always 300 MHz - why?
