MSI Radeon series

Has anyone tried the new Radeon series from MSI...
Since I'm buying the new card cos my FX5600 is too weak I thought 9800 Pro would be a great boost to my system...
And I won't buy anything but MSI cos it gives me satisfaction to know that MSI mobo and MSI Graphic card are ticking inside my case...
If this 9800 Pro is not good I will just buy FX5900XT
What would be your choice??? FX5900XT or Radeon 9800Pro?

The 9800 Pro is much stronger, specially in applications that make use of shaders (true DX9 games like far cry).
It's probably the best band for the buck right now at around 220$.

  • MSI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone edition OC seems faulty

I have a new graphics card, MSI 6850 cyclone edition OC and it crashes alot when I try to run games, usually when the game is loading. I RMA'd with the retailer (OCUK) after I'd done pretty much everything I could I.e. update bios, reinstal windows, installing the drivers cleanly etc... and they said it's not faulty, but the problem persisted.
I tried underclocking my card from about 860|1100 to 600|1000 and it seems much more stable now and I can almost always run my games without it crashing.
But I shouldn't have to underclock it from the default factory settings.
    My system specs are:
    Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R
Processor: Intel core i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz (was OC'd to 3.4Ghz, but I set the clock to default trying to fix the problem)
    Memory: DDR3 6GB corsair
(new)Graphics card: msi ati radeon hd 6850 cyclone power edition
    (old)Graphics card: Radeon HD 4650
    power: corsair, TX650W, Model: CMPSU-650TX
I've tried it on a number of clock settings and I've got these results:
    860 core | 1100 Memory = crashes (default)
    800 core | 1100 Memory = crashes
    750 core | 1100 Memory = crashes
    700 core | 1000 Memory = fine
    600 core | 1000 Memory = fine
for some reason the card can't clock to anywhere near the default settings, it crashes even at 750 which is 110MHz below the factory settings.
Also, the other day when I logged my desktop went like this:
but it's stopped doing that now it seems, might be because I put my old card back in for a bit, old card was 100% fine in every way. I have the new card back in now though.
I've overvolted it from 1149mV to 1200mV and it seems to have made the card more stable. It generally doesn't crash loading or during games now (still does occasionally), but it does seem to crash alot streaming things like bbc iplayer.
I've made quite a few topics on OCUK about it and since it was sent back to me I've been told by everyone on there that it sounds definitely faulty and the card manufacturer MSI are my best bet at getting the issue sorted now. Somebody also said it sounds like a similar problem with some cards awhile back: Quote
Reminds me of the GTX480 SOC fiasco. Lots of them wouldn't run at stock clocks and RMAs came back no fault found.. Voltage increase or back off the clocks were the only solution..
All comments on my problem are appreciated,
    Dan.

Hi!  There are currently tons of unresolved issues with the MSI HD68xx series products.  Better off with non-MSI products and buy into the HD69xx series.
Skip the HD68xx series as nothing ever works right.   SVET might get ya answers but Svet only works the Forums and if you really have issues  MSI company won't hear it from here.
You need to contact the expensive route calling MSI themselfs which I heard Customer Support and Technicial Depts are worthless. I tried when I had HD3800's and even AMD/ATI didn't care.
You are now a Happy Owner of a Bad Product.!!!

  • MSI Radeon R9 280X - Visual bug squares

    Hi,
Since I got my GPU in February of 2014 I've had multiple visual bugs. Flashing lines in flash video players (e.g. youtube)
and flashing squares in the screen. The flashing squares look something like this:
It can happen anywhere on the screen. It also happens with black squares instead of white.
Some people on the internet say that it can be due to the driver version or the GPU clock frequency. I've tried installing all the drivers I could find on amd.com and the one on msi.com. Both had this problem. I've also played with the GPU clock frequency, but that didn't matter at all.
I feel now as if I should have sent the card back when I got it as I had this problem within the first week. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem?
    System specs:
    GPU:  MSI Radeon R9 280X GAMING 3G
    CPU:  Intel Core i5 4670K
Memory:  8GB Ram (Crucial Ballistix Tactical)
    Motherboard: Asus Z87-K
    Current resolution:  2560x1440, 60Hz
    OS:  Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro
Looking at the specs it seems that I'm running a resolution which is too high for a DVI connection.  MSI card specs shows a maximum of 2048x1536 resolution for the DVI connection. Which seems wierd to me as I'm now running 2560x1440 resolution.
Could the resolution be the problem? And if so can this be fixed in anyway while still connecting to a DVI monitor? (e.g. GPU -->Mini DisplayPort --> convert --> DVI --> monitor)

My PSU: Seasonic G-Serie 550 Watt
The specs say the card only has HDMI 1. Should I try to use the Mini DisplayPort?
    HDMI Connectors 1 (version 1.4a)
      Max Resolution: 3840x2160 @30 Hz-30bpp
      4096x2160 @24 Hz-24bpp
    Mini DisplayPort 2 (version 1.2)
      Max Resolution: 4096x2160 @ 50 Hz

  • MSI Radeon R9 290 not recognized

    Hello people,
I hope this is the right place to post this. Yesterday I bought components to build a new computer.
    - msi radeon R9 290 Gaming 4GB
    - 8 gb crucial ram
    - 240 gb crucial SSD
    - i5 4440 processor
    - MSI B85M-E33
    - Cooler Master GM-Series G550M
    - Cooler Master N200
I can't install catalyst center, I can't recognize the card in windows devide manager. Even in the BIOS its says that the PCIE1 express lane is empty.
So I think that my motherboard is not compatible with the R9 290? Is there anything I can do? Or do I have to buy a new motherboard?( fans of the graphicscard are running)
    Please help me:)
    Thanks!

There is no reason why the vga shouldn't work with your board although it is not meabt for gaming. Try updating it to the latest bios version using integrated gpu.
To update use the attached (!) bios archive and the >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
With the >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< point to the attached and NOT unpacked bios archive (Mode 1: Point to Archive).
Let the tool prepare an USB stick for flashing and reboot from the stick. Like before after post switch to bad bios and let the tool update bios. It will flash to the version 3.5.

  • Why can I get 4k output from MSI Radeon HD 5450 on Win XP but not Win 7?

A few months ago I bought a msi Radeon 5450 Graphics Card.
I was surprised impressed that I could get 4k output (3840 x 2160) on my SEIKI monitor (via HDMI at 30Hz). This exceeds the specification!!!
However, when I took this Graphics card from my Win XP box and put in Windows 7, I can't run at 4k. The highest resolution choice is 1920 x 1080.
In Win XP, I just had to do "Detect Displays" in CCC and the 3840 x 2160 resolution would show up as a choice.
But when I do "Detect Displays" in CCC in Windows 7, I don't get the 3840 x 2160 as a choice. I only get 1080 as a choice.
I did notice the Catalyst Control Centre  (CCC) program between Windows XP and Windows 7 is different.
The Win 7 PC, has an APU (not sure if that has any bearing).
Can anyone advise what I can do?
    MSI Card: R5450 - MD1GD3H/LP  DVI HDMI VGA  1GB DDR3 Fanless

Did you check if you have the latest VGA driver on Win7?

  • Drivers for MSI Radeon R7 260 1GB

I just bought this the MSI Radeon R7 260 1GB graphics card.
    1. I tried to install drivers from the MSI CD, but nothing happened. So I checked the contents of the CD, only drivers for Win 7 and 8 are supplied! (what happened to VISTA and XP users??)
    2. I tried to get drivers / catalyst controller from the MSI web site, but there are no drivers. (The only thing on offer is a firmware update utility)
    3. I then tried to get drivers from AMD web site, they had drivers for XP 32bit. Whilst this installed the Catalyst Controller, on reboot, it only show a black screen. I had to do a shutdown (via power button). I had to reboot in 'last known known good setting', but then there was a message about no AMD drivers installed. I can't open up Catalyst Controller.  I am only getting basic generic drivers and the window display is terrible.
    4. I then went back to MSI web site,  I tried to install Radeon R7 260X drivers / apps. But that did not work either.
(My previous card was a XFX Radeon R7 240).
Can MSI tell me how to fix this? Or is there no support for Windows XP? Should I return the graphics card?

hello there, have you returned the card yet? if you still need help, would you please provide which model of R7 260 you are using?

  • MSI Radeon HD 6950 UEFI GOP Vbios

    Hi all!
For about a year, i am the proud owner of a MSI X79A-GD65 8D, along with a MSI Radeon HD 6950 2go.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and would like to take advantage of the fast boot feature that was recently introduced with my motherboard, but my graphic card is not currently UEFI GOP compliant.
Is it possible to have a vbios update that would make it UEFI GOP compliant? I couldn't find anything relevant previously regarding Radeon 6950 cards, only about 79X0 and some geforces.
    Anyway, here is my S/N : 912-V803-689B1012012423
If not, is there a list of the MSI graphic cards that are officially UEFI GOP compliant?

Thank you very much for your answer! I sent a mail to MSI France Support to ask them directly...
That's sad, because my current graphic card has enough horsepower for my needs, and buying a new one just for the fastboot thing is a little to much i think... ^^
I will keep you informed about what the support replies... Thanks!

  • MSI Radeon 7950 3dMark11 unaproved driver issues

Ive been using 3dmark to benchmark my system. I recently doubled my RAM from 8gb to 16gb. Corsair Vengence 4gb for all four sticks. after upgrading for some reason 3dmark11 is saying that my 7950's drivers are not approved for the benchmark.
    Previous score  8100
    Now its            7300
Im also using MSI Z77A-G43 for my MoBo.
Im not sure if this is a video card issue with the drivers like 3dmark11 says, or if its an issue with the main board.

  • MSI 990FXA-GD80 / MSI Radeon ATI HD 7870 Hawk / Phanteks combo.

    Hi
I am in the process of building a new system but have, potentially, run into some problems.
The motherboard I am looking to buy is the “MSI 990FXA-GD80” and the graphics card is the “MSI Radeon ATI HD 7870 Hawk”, processor  FX-8350.
    Now to my question/possible problem.
I am looking to buy a third party cooler from Phanteks, the “Phanteks PH-TC14P-RD”.
I know that it will be a tight fit between the cooler and the graphics card normally, and since the Hawk has the “GPU reactor” (which builds the height of the card) my concern is that it would interfer with the Phanteks making it impossible for me to install the video card using the Phanteks.
I was wondering if this combo would work or not, prior to registering here I Googled searched like crazy but came up with nothing.
I would really appreciate some help.
    Best regards.
    Eric

Since that board has two PCI-E slots with 16 lanes you wouldn't have to use the first slot so reactor is not the real issue. The VRM cooler of the board could be more troublesome as the cooler has two towers and two fans.
However I found somone listing a combo with the cooler and a 990FXA-GD65 which should have a vrm cooler of the same height.

  • Power requirement for MSI Radeon 6770 or Geforce 550 Ti

    Hello,

I have the following PC COnfiguration :
    1. Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66 GHz
    2. Seagate Harddisk 160 GB 7200 RPM
    3. WD Harddisk 500 GB 7200 RPM
    4. 2 GB DDR2 RAM
    5. Coolermaster exteme power 500W
    +12V1 - 18A
    +12V2 - 18A
    Efficiency - 70 +
    6. Intel G31 PR motherboard
    7. Samsung 18X DVD -RW writer
    Thanks in advance

See Bernhards reply #1 above regarding Corsair PSU. If you want or might need more power for future if needed then TX650 or TX750 would also be good choices. I have a TX450 that has been used on all of my systems at one time or another for several years and if you are lucky enough to find one of those it would also be a very good choice but that is a discontinued item and hard to find now. Antec has some good ones and some that are garbage and I would avoid them as you never know what kind of quality you end up with.
All MB are build to standard specs as far as hardware compatibility (PCIe/PCI slot spacing etc.) so there should be no problem there. Limitation can be in the size of the case front to back where the length of the card could be a problem but not the MB itself.
Intel G31PR, are you sure it's not a DG31PR? If so there's nothing on tha MB that would interfere with using the 560 GTX judging from the picture I looked at.

  • MSI Radeon R9 270X Hawk - Screen corruption

    Hello,
I dearly ask for your help, I have an issue with my MSI HAWK Radeon R9 270X, after using my computer for a while the screen on the primary/secondary monitor will become unreadable(see the first link), If I switch the monitor off via Catalyst Control Center the screen corruption will appear onto the  other monitor. Maybe the newer BIOS would help, I have the same issue with another MSI HAWK R9 270X. I didn't have any problems with my former video cards (Geforce GTS 250, GTS450, Radeon 6850 and Radeon 7850).
I tried both 13.12 drivers as well as the newest betas 14.1 ,the only difference was the first target affected, on 13.12 the corruption would appear on primary monitor whereas on 14.1 it would affect the secondary one.
Also occasionally I experience the screen flicker issue as well, maybe newer BIOS could solve both of them.
    My system specs:
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 with 2104 Bios version
    4x Corsair XMS 2000MHz 4GB
Thermaltake Evo Blue 2.0 750W Power Supply
    MSI Radeon R9 270X HAWK - Serial Number:  602-V303-02SB1310007935
    Monitor#1 - IIyama ProLite X2377HDS
    Monitor#2  BenQ FP73E S
Both of them connected via DVI

I would appreciate any help from you guys

Can't download the vbios from that site you linked to.
None the less >>this<< is the latest vbios
    TV303MH.131 is normal vbios, TV303MH.141 is LN2
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (131_141.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.131 or TV303MH.141) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.131 / TV303MH.141 to 131.rom / 141.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 131.rom (or 141.rom) [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.
