MSI ramdisk MSI-X79A-GD45 plus motherboard

I have MSI-X79A-GD45 plus motherboard and i have 64GB of ddr3-1600mhz rams.
I want to boot windows 7 from ramdisk backup img using msi ramdisk. is it possible?
when the boot loader of windows loads the ramdisk?
I am designing a bootloader software for running windows on ramdisk.
My strategy is
I install my bootloader/disk enumerator to ssd or usb flash drive. disk enumerator shows old hdd and ssd drives.
i install 64bits w7 os on ssd
i install my usefull softwares to work(photoshop, maya etc)
i create a 36 GB sytem image file without compression. its name is readyos.vhd
i add an entry to my bootloader/disk enumerator when i power on my computer .
bootloader> load readyos.vhd,ramdisk(0);
boot;
it loads vhd image to ramdisk and sytem goes on.
when i restrart pc bootloader loads vhd and sytem runs but its frozen because i dont modify readyos.vhd file.
whats msi thinking about this idea?

You need to have WWindows running in order to use the RAMDisk application. You cannot start the RAMDisk first. You must start Windows first THEN load the RANDisk application.
AFAIK, it is not possible to do the opposite.

MSI X79A-GD45 Plus Odd USB problems...

I'm having some odd issues with my MSI X79A-GD45 Plus... The system overall works well, and other than these little nagging annoyances the machine works.
I'm looking for any other suggestions you all might have of this issue.
Every so often when I plug a device into the USB 3.0 ports the devices are not recognized. This ranges from flash drives to USB headsets. Rebooting the machine does not solve this. I have to shut down completely and cold boot to get the ports back up and running. It matters not if I use the front panel ports or the rear. All the while my keyboard and mouse which are in the rear USB 2.0 ports never fail to work.
I am going to plug the front panel into the USB 2.0 headers on the mainboard just to test and see if I get the same results, I'm thinking that should tell me weather or not the motherboard or the front panel is the culprit.
That aside any other suggestions would be very much appreciated.
One other thing and I am not sure if this is related to my issue... Most of the time when I boot the machine, the text for the POST messages are very large, like real zoomed in. If I go to the BIOS when this happens the BIOS is also way zoomed in and it is very slow/unresponsive. If I want to use the BIOS I have to restart the machine until I get the text normal looking, even then the BIOS seems kind of slow compared to my last MSI board (990FXA-GD80) which had this same type of click BIOS. This phenomena happened both with the BIOS the board came with and with the updated BIOS I installed to fix a sound issue.
Again not sure if that has anything to do with the USB thing but I wanted to put that here just in case the issues are related.

No Sound from MSI X79A-GD45 Plus

I have the MSI X79A-GD45 Plus. I've uninstalled the Realtek drivers and reinstalled them from the Mother Drivers CD and also downloaded one from the MSI website.
Realtek Audio Manager shows speakers are plugged in and work but I hear no sound. I've tried working speakers and headphones.

Msi x79a-gd45 plus and Dolby Digital Live

I bought a pair of Astro A50's to enjoy surround sound music and gaming. I have surround for music but with gaming you need Dolby Digital Live to get 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound with this headset. I have a msi x79a-gd45 plus, now does anyone know if DDL is compatible with my on-board sound card? Apparently you can download DDL for 5 dollars and I'd love to for the sake of surround gaming, but only if it actually works with my card.

Have you checked with the Realtek website for that application?

1) if i buy the MSI X79A-GD45 PLUS that has 3 pci-express can i populate the first and the third slot with graphic card in sli configuration in order to have better air circulation ? the slots are 16,16,8 but the third use the same bus of the second so i don't know if leaving the second solt empty the third will rise to 16x Can you give me some info Thanks
2) If the option above is not possible than cards that uses 2,5 slots of space like the gainward phantom will have enough space in sli with the first and second slot populated ? thanks in advance

you could populate PCI_E1 and PCI_E6 also according to the manual.. it will be 16/8

MSI X79A-GD45 Plus no Post w. 4820K

I have same problem with a x79-gd45 plus with the 4820 cpu. I rma the first one and the replacement board does the same thing. Blue leds on, no post. Current board s/n 601-7760-040b1303219906. Purchased from Fry's who wont touch it??? Also, on jpwr3 plug, is that an in or an out? Not real clear.

Flobelix, enough of this? Don't you dare speak to me like that! The fact your answers made no sense made me think there might be a language issue. It was not meant to be offensive. Nobody ever answered my other questions but keep saying contact MSI. I was looking for insight into the product not just a referral to MSI. Either way, I have contacted MSI again. They have flashed the bios and it still does not work. So back to square one. Now I have a refurb mb that does not work and cannot be returned to the store where it was purchased. MSI X79A-GD45 Plus - How to turn on Intel VT-x?

Hey there guys,
VMware is telling me that Intel VT-x is disabled but I can't for the life of me find the setting in the BIOS. This is what I get:
I am looking thru the manual but I have not had any luck... If someone could help me find this setting that would be most awesome.

Look in the BIOS OC section, CPU Features sub section. I don't have the Intel datasheet handy for the CPU you have, so I can't confirm what VT features it incorporates.
Added: With some boards, with a supported CPU of a specific feature, it may be enabled simply be default. If no applicable setting is found, that could be the situation.

MSI X79 GD45 Plus Reboot Problem

Hi guys, I am having problems with my MSI X79 GD45 Plus motherboard. Everytime I restart my pc from windows, my motherboard or pc goes off and on again. Unlike the normal restart wherein it just well..restarts.. without going off.
I've tried to switch the ram positions, and yes I've tested all positions, still doesn't work.
I've also updated my bios. Still doesn't fix the problem.

Msi X79A-GD45 (8D) Power on Problem

Dear Msi Users.
I got a Strange problem with a Msi X79A-GD45 (8d) Motherboard.
The Motherboard runs a Intel i7 3930K with a Kingston HyperX 32gb 1600mhz Kit (KHX1600C9D3K8/32GX), a Ati 7770 2gb, A SSD + HDD and a DVDRom
We deliverd 9 systems and 8 of them are Working just great (Al the Set-ups are the same).
One of them is giving strange problems with powering on the whole System.
When i boot the Machine it goes on for a couple of Seconds (Without signal) and then powers off for 2 Seconds, afher that it boot's again and the problem is the same.
So we tried a couple of things, change Memory kit (result the same), change Cpu (result the same), change power supply (result the same), new Motherboard (result the Same).
Then i tried 32gb 1333 kit and the system works great, goes on like normal and boot's windows like normal.
But when i put the 1600ghz 32gb kit back the problem is back right away. Even with a New 32gb Kit.
The Bios is the Last version, We are in the Dark now. Is there a smart guy who can help us?

Be sure XMP is disabled.
If it doesn't work on "Auto", you need to manually set the speed, timings and voltage (for 8 modules I recommend around 1.60V).

So it is running at 1333 by default, this indiciates either different bios, or something different about the ram you used previously. X79A-GD45 Plus (NO POST. NO VIDEO)

Hello, everyone!
I have recently purchased a new MSI X79A-GD45 Plus "military class 3" motherboard, and can not seem to get it to post. Everything turns on. Fans spin. Pretty blue LEDs all over.. none of which appear to be warning or error lights. Nice whirring sound, then tick as hard disk powers on. However, there is no beep when I attach a speaker, and no display coming in over the monitor.
Does anything stand out about my setup that could cause some sort of weird behavior? I've double-tested the CPU and RAM as working in a friends machine running a board from another brand. I've also tried another known-working (450 watts) PSU and another known-working graphics card that doesn't require additional power from the PSU.

The other power supply I ended up trying to use the day of my last post was some random brand 550W that didn't have a proper hookup for the video card and may or may not have worked in the first place. So, that was ruled out.
Instead, my friend unhooked his even fancier Corsair and we plugged it to my setup with and without the additional molex for the video card slots. Same result.
I've attached some pictures of my setup and the state of the LEDs on the board when it is running. My GTS 450 isn't pictured here. It was used that day to test, but then we put in one of his known working cards for further testing.
Neither him or I are novices at this by any means. We've been building our own setups for years. But this is the strangest situation either of us have ever encountered. I'm now reduced to wondering about the most random of problems. Is this huge heatsink causing a problem? I've never used one this big before. Did I use the wrong motherboard screws? My case came with a huge assortment of black screws and the ones I ended up using fit easily and screwed all the way into the mount risers. Could it be that I have the worst luck in the world and have actually board 3 bad motherboards in a row from two different brands.
I'm starting to really worry here as I'm running out of ideas and time to return things.

X79A-GD45 Plus refuses manual voltage overclock?

Hello everyone, I registered over here to ask this question and see if anyone else is having the same issue.
I currently have an i7 3930k installed in my GD45 Plus, I bought the board for its reasonable price and 8-DIMM support. I was pretty happy with it until I discovered this "issue".
Leaving most settings on auto and using the Turbo+Vdroop method (C'mon MSI, would it kill you to add offset overclocking?), 87.5% Vdroop control and +250 on the core override voltage I am able to stress test for 30 minutes to an hour at 4.6ghz before crashing, the CPU is just at the very edge of stability. Load voltage settles around 1.364V with this setup, which is very very low for SB-E chip at that clock speed.
However, if I disable turbo and run a manual clock of 4600mhz things change. All power savings shut off, SA voltage at 1.300V, basically everything opened up as far as power limit/duration settings. It boots to windows fine, but immediately upon loading the CPU the system shuts off and reboots after a few seconds. I tried 4600 at 1.375V... then 1.400V... then 1.450V, all the way up to 1.550V and it has the same effect.
Then I wondered what it would do at stock, sure enough even at 3200mhz stock with a manual voltage the board shuts off immediately once the CPU is loaded up with Prime 95 or IBT.
I am using BIOS revision 17.3, and am about to attempt to downgrade to a previous version to see if that has any effect.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with this thing? This is incredibly disappointing, as I had a very good experience with the X79MA-GD45 mATX board. What is even more disappointing is my garbage (literally the worst board I have ever owned, bar none) ECS X79R-AX Deluxe that doesn't even have a VRM heatsink and needs the BIOS jumper in the reset position to even boot will run the same exact CPU as I am using in the Plus at 4.8ghz all day every day. Really want to get this board working properly as I like everything else about it.

I've gone through literally everything. This is not my first time doing this, and I know good overclocks are possible on a GD45 board as I've done it before with arguably the worst of the bunch. I'm not bugged about voltage, I prefer to stay under 1.500V if possible and would only push past that for quick bench runs.

I did some more experimenting, and I think the BIOS might be incorrectly reporting the voltage. I found that I can run 4400mhz at only 1.150V and 4600mhz at 1.200V, there is no way a 3930k with a 1.341V VID is overclocking by 1000+ mhz undervolted like that. It would make sense, if it was about 0.200V off then running 1.400V would actually be 1.600V and even with the power settings tweaked it would instantly shut down unless I was sub-zero, probably due to the VRM's hitting the 130* thermal protection. I can't think of any other reason it could be behaving like this.

MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) BIOS help??

Hi guys, I'm new here as I've only just managed (barely!) to build my first PC. Although I'm slightly worried that once I turn it on the BIOS of my motherboard won't be the version required to run the i7-3820. I've read in a number of threads from different forums and it seems to be a recurring theme of this motherboard being slightly problematic.
I'm still waiting on my PSU so I can't check it quite yet although everything else has been assembled.
My question is, can I find out the BIOS version of my motherboard from something like a serial no., and if so, where?
My system is as follows -
MSI X79A-GD45(8D)
i7-3820
R9 270x Hawk
2x8GB G-Skill 8GB Ripjaws X DDR3 2133
Cooler Master Hyper 412s
Corsair RM650 80 Plus Gold 650W
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as advice on what to do if the BIOS is an old man.
P.S. - there is a ''revision history'' inside the ''software & application'' user guide which notes an update of something (not sure if BIOS) up to ''v1.6 - Update Control Center 2.5 and add MSI SUITE''.

You could always try the CPU and see if it will POST or not. No harm should be done trying it. If it doesn'r POST, then you have a pretty good idea it needs the UEFI/BIOS updated. I did manage to find a few dates on the mobo itself, including one mentioning ''EuP 2013'' as well as a sticker ending with the numbers ''2014''. I think it's a good indication although I may just be seeing what I want to there. Any idea what EuP means?

cpu base clock : 100
adjust cpu ratio 42
intel turbo disabled
dram freq @1600
cpu core temp 1.290
hyper thread enabled
Everything else is auto
This pc is running at 4.2 in general but when I do render type heavy cpu rendering cpu speed starts going down to 2900, they oscillate betwen 4200 and 2900/2700. I am trying to get it start around 4000. TO me it is kind of pointless that the cpu would clock down when I need them not too. I do not mind if they are clocked down when they are not in use.
I have 750 W with corsair hydro h60
I asked this issue before but I was not able to resolve. I am hoping that someone else might be able to help me out here .

If the mainboard also has the VDroop option, then set it to 100%. Have you tried the CPU Ratio OC at 44X with the CPU V. in Auto already? If it is stable, then no need to try the Turbo method of OC. With CPU V. in Auto, you can enable EIST and C1E and get power saving features to work. CPU V. must be in Auto for the voltage to decrease at low use or idle (33C).

This setup seemed to push my average cpu temps by around 7C degrees, so I am around 64C if all are at max. I am not sure if this issue is from another place but worth mentioning. I am not sure if this is still in the good range. On the other hand this setup seems to lower my average idle temps couple degrees.
Before I was using
Cpu base 100
ratio 44 Cpu Core V auto
Dram 1600
and everything else was either disabled or set to auto
Any further recommendations?

Msi x79a-gd45 - Continuous restar loop - Code 67

My computer was working normally yesterday installed my 2 vga and the problem started:
Problem: everything appears to power up correctly, but it only stays powered up for about 5 seconds, then it switchs off, and then continues to repeat this process.
It also restarts and does the same thing in a continuous loop.
Debug display flashes 19, then 67 OR 6F
The vga This Ok, tested it on another computer, also tested other memories and nothing remains the same.
I tested with only 1 vga and the same thing, do not know what to do.
My Pc:

i7-3820 - Bios 1.4
8gb 4x2 G.Skill Eco 1.35V 1600mhz
3x MSI R6970 Lighting

MSI X79A-GD45: I can't run windows update

Hi Guys.,
I just finished setting-up a new PC for my friend..,
with the following specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 3820 w/ Hydro Series H80
Mobo: MSI X79A-GD45
RaM: 4 x 4GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z DDR3 2133 CL9Q
GPU: MSI R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC
PSU: Corsair HX 850
Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda
SSD: >>> Can't decide yet on what brand & model to purchase :D
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Everything is okay from the first boot up.., browsing the bios (since i just used the optimal default or standard setting), windows 7 installation, drivers installation and installing and playing BF3 for a while.
But every time I tried to run windows update., it always fail and saying ....restart the system etc (sorry I forgot the exact words )
How can I fix this?
Also I want to ask regarding the memory (ram) information it only register 1600 instead of the expected 2133 (on bios and speccy)
And 15.9GB is registering in speccy instead of 16GB (I know its just .1 :D) I'm just curious or anxious that there might be a problem

Thank you Sir. I think I got the problem causing this., but I can't find the answer yet.
Here's how I find it: :D
After spending almost a day trying to make it work., I finally gave up and decided to clean install the OS. (win 7 ultimate 64)
After I re-installed the new OS there is no internet connection yet because I still have to install the LAN drivers of the motherboard.
So I downloaded the latest drivers from another another pc, saved it on a flash drive and installed it one at a time.
So I installed the LAN driver.. okay.. windows update now working.
I installed all the other motherboard (except for the Intel IRST) and ATI drivers. windows update still working.
Installed the latest Intel IRST... windows update stopped working again..., :(
so I uninstalled it.. but still windows update not working. Luckily I found the system restore and restored it to the time when I haven't installed the Intel IRST.. and its working again... :D
NOW.... I downloaded and installed the latest Intel IRST for my motherboard from Intel's website this time but the problem is still the same! the windows update stopped working again!!!!
Finally.., I just use system restore again until windows update is working.. and never installed any Intel IRST.
If you have a solution for this., please help me...
