Msi sli plus x99 bios long bootup time

Hi,
I have the msi sli plus x99 motherboard and when I start my computer it takes 15seconds to see the bios window (before that there is a black screen)
I have an ssd so it takes me 10 seconds to load windows so the waiting for the computer to start loading it is annoying.
Is there anything that I can do about it?

Try disconnection the SSD and any other peripherals see if it make any change.
What is the BIOS version and what VGA card are you using?
I updated the bios version to the latest one (1.8)
The card im using is the HD5750

  • Msi Sli plus and E5-2620v3

    Hello
    I am Irene,
    i am a new member,
    i need help please
it's a long story to explain
my desktop is broken.my brother bought a cpu and ddr4 to build a workstation but he had to left  and he will back next year.he told me"meanwhile you use this cpu until i come back"
    the cpu is
    Xeon E5-2620v3 (2011-3)
    it's an oversized cpu for me,i don't have a server, don't overcklocking,don't gaming,don't videoediting. but now i have it.
i'm choosing a mobo. i'm thinking to get MSI SLI PLUS. a very simple mobo.but on ,on Intel page and in "CPU support" there is written "Intel Xeon Processor Family is designed for servers. Some features may not support when installed on X99 series chipsets."
    what does it mean?
if i put this cpu on this mobo can i install windows 8.1? can i surfing the net (facebook, youtube, instagram),watching movies in streaming, blu ray, using Word?
if i buy this mobo, have i to flash immediately the BIOS before to install cpu or i don't need it
    Let me know please
    Thanks

This Xeon cpu is supported on X99S SLI Plus out of the box and will work like any other 2011-v3 cpu used on this platform. It just can't be overclocked as it - unlike 5820K/5930K/5960X - does not offer an unlocked core ratio.
Because X99 is a desktop platform it will also not support server technologies like ECC Memory Support that Xeon cpus would support on a Server board. As the desktop 2011-v3 cpus would not support this technologies anyway you won't miss it.

During our testing and general usage of the MSI K8N Diamond Plus we found the board's stability to be superb and it delivered class leading results in most of our synthetic and game benchmarks. Unfortunately, although the latest 3.0a BIOS release has generally improved the board's stability, overclocking options, and performance, we still incurred issues trying to get our particular sample to overclock in a similar fashion to our nForce4, ULi M1697, or ATI RD580/480 boards.

I saw that a couple of days ago....
Another example of good hardware being slightly borked by a funky BIOS.
Of course it could be production variation. People with the same parts I have, routinely exceed 300HT with Neo4 Plats - Something I have yet to accomplish. Oh well.

  • MSI sli plus bios update problems

I have an x99 sli plus and was working perfectly untill latest I updated latest bios (1.5 I think). Updated ok restarted but wouldn't post so manual restart. Restarted fine into windows but cpu temp signal was reading way to low. Then I had checked OC setting and found everything was on base clock. Restarted into bios and loaded my saved 24/7 OC, restarted and nothing. Screen not even turning on. Fan is running on low but nothing no post etc. Tried switching to other bios with switch, same result. Heeelllp

This sounds like the same problem as mine. I updated from 1.4 -> 1.5 and restored a profile and it refused to boot, no display, fans on.
In my case, the CPU and one stick of RAM fried, I hope your situation ends without dead hardware. I would also like that if MSI takes a look at the profiles system and see if there is some bug with restoring settings across BIOS versions (in my case, profile was created on 1.4).
Hope not  but I'm starting to think some hardware has been damaged.
Quote from: Svet on 01-January-15, 22:39:19
think profiles should be used only within the same BIOS version
when you switch to new BIOS, you have to recreate the OC profile and to save it again
remove power cord from the PSU 1st,
then press power button several times, until all lights stop lightning.
then do again >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Did what you suggested no change.
I get what you are saying about the oc profiles, but it was a very mild oc (4.5 at 1.24v and xmp enabled for the ram) and then just fan profiles. Seems insane that would (finger crossed it hasn't) destroy hardware straight away. And if its just that a profile saved in another version of the bios does hardware damage no matter what the settings seems even more crazy.
    Thanks for the posts/help guys

  • X99S SLI Plus bad BIOS flash

    Hello there,
Tried to go from version 1.3 to a new 1.4. Downloaded and unzipped .rom file. Copied the file to a Corsair usb memory flash drive, restarted the machine to BIOS and through M-Flash tried to reflash it. It found the file on the memory drive, said "the computer will restart in 5 seconds. It did so, started flashing, the progress bar went to 87% and then it just stopped. I let it sit there for an hour thinking that I just bricked a BIOS chip somehow. After restart I got a black screen .. Switched to a another BIOS chip (dual BIOS rock) started a PC normally.
Here is what I tried to do: Reformated the flash drive, redownloaded the 1.4 .rom file. Booted to a working BIOS, then switched to a bad BIOS, selected the .rom file on the memory stick, it said the same thing, 5 sec, reboot .. to a black screen. Tried this a few times. I also tried the Live Update utility in Windows, it reports that BIOS is up to date, while the switch is in bad BIOS, I guess it reads the BIOS info from somewhere before I switch the BIOS.
I bought this mobo with BIOS v 1.1, then using the same method successfully flashed it to 1.2 and 1.3, never touching the BIOS switch.
My question is: is there anything else I could try to recover bad BIOS chip? I dont want to RMA the board because of it, it works, and I can't afford the down time. Thank you for the input.

  • Msi99x sli plus upd bios. Missing file

Hello all. Can't get my 2 titans to work in sli so trying to update the bios. Never done this before.
Used the forums program to make an USB.
Added the bios. But it just says missing file something ME. What am I doing wrong?  And what bios works good now?
Really close to change motherboard. Had a lot of problems.

    Sorry for this my friend.
But in fact this is completely new series, and MSI (and others most likely too) don't have 100% perfect BIOS versions yet. Also I've been noticed that new CPUs has little problems running on X99 series, as it's been a haste when Intel released CPUs. Apparently Intel was meant to release these in 2015..
Wish you good luck, maybe different board will work fine but who knows

  • Extremely Long Bootup time

For the last couple of weeks, I've noticed something that disturbs me. I've had this iMac 24 for about a year now. If I restart it or shut it down then start it up, it usually only takes a short time before the login page appears. Now it takes a long time.
What happens is that the screen goes white and shortly later the chord sounds as it usually does during startup. Then nothing appears to happen for a long time. I know I've gone away and returned in 5 mins and then 10 mins and it is still on the white page with no apparent activity. Eventually (probably within the hour), the login page appears, I log in, and it starts up my session normally.
The only thing I'm aware of changing is adding a new wireless earphone. I bought a Plantronics wireless headset that connect using a USB device that I've plugged into the back of my iMAC. I did install this about the time this started. I've installed updates and new modules into Accordance at several times before and after this long startup began happening. There have probably been some software updates that install semiautomatically using Apples Update utility and Adobe's Update utility and some software has their own startup check for updates. I don't keep a log of these things.
Any ideas on why this delay in startup would happen?

Try starting in safe mode - hold the shift key until the Apple logo appears on the grey screen. If the startup is quick you can be fairly sure that the basic OS is working OK and that it's one of the 'extras' causing the problem.
A second quick test is to disconnect all peripherals before starting then start up normally. If this is also quick you can suspect one of the peripherals is the problem.
If this is so, try connecting just one and start up. Continue this process until the problem recurs. You will then have a good idea of the guilty item. Once that is identified we might be able to suggest the next steps.
By the way - should your profile show 10.6.2 as the current OS? If still on 10.6.1 it could be worthwhile doing the 10.6.2 upgrade as it includes various fixes.

  • Long bootup time

I have Purchased my ibook 2 months, there is a strange thing happening since the last one week. when I boot the machine, I get a blinking square with a globe in it, this remains for aprox 30 seconds, after this I get a folder picture in it and in the folder picture, the image of a "?" and a profile symbol toggles. After a minute I m able to see the Apple Mac Sign.
can anyone tell me what is happening ? I have never used a MAC before, so any suggestions would be helpful

Here's how to read what the Macintosh Help System says:
A flashing question mark appears when I try to start up my computer
If you see a flashing question mark when you start up your computer, your computer is probably having trouble locating the system software.
If the computer starts up after a brief delay, you probably just need to reselect your startup volume. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences. Click Startup Disk and select the the desired startup volume.
If your computer does not start up, try repairing your startup disk and reselecting your Mac OS X startup volume.
    ====================================
To have this information displayed on your computer:
    1. Click once on the desktop.
    2. Click on "Help"
    3. Click on "Mac Help"
    4. Enter "Startup" into the little search window
    5. Press the "Return" key
    6. Click on the topic: "A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac," which on my computer is the second one down.
    I hope this helps you.

  • MSI X99S SLI Plus & Samsung XP941 SSD

    Hello All,
I have just put a system together using the MSI X99S SLI Plus board and a Samsung XP941 M2. SSD.
The base build is done and I have tested it for stability and all is ok (Windows installed onto the M2. SSD in PCIe mode).
I have connected drives to SATA ports 2-6 (intentionally left 1 out for now, another SSD later); the system boots with no issues from the M2.SSD.
I experience issues when I connect drives to the SATA ports 7 and 8. When drives are connected to these ports, the system does not correctly detect the M2.SSD. Note, ports 5&6 have been left disconnected as per the manual.
During bootup in this configuration the system will report that the M2.SSD is:
    ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ
(yes y with the two dots above).
In short, it does not detect it correctly, if the system is left to boot it just shows a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.
The only way I have been able to get around this issue has been to set the sSATA (ports 7-10) to IDE mode, this then allows the system to detect the SSD and all appears to work. I don't want to use the sSATA controller in IDE mode and would like to get it working in AHCI mode.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any recommendations on what I could try? I have attempted other configurations to get this working to no avail.
    Thanks for any help!

I RMA the my MSI SLI PLUS X99S for the second time. Explained about the quad channel is not working even  the bank 5 , 6 , 7 and 8 are not working with a single memory stick. Iam done with it they have tested in 1,2,3,4  but thats dual channel. the have not tested it on bank  5.6.7 and 8. Can someone here from MSI contact Alternate.nl Netherlands (holland) from the reseller to return this Board. I payd for the Quad channel feature and not dual channel . • Overclocking X99S SLI PLUS with XP941

Hello everyone. I'm trying to overclock my CPU and RAM.
My setup is as follow :
X99S SLI PLUS (latest bios 1.6)
    5820K
    Gskill F4-3000C15Q-16GRR
    Samsung XP941 as boot drive
As long as I don't touch the BCLK everything's fine. I can achieve without effort 4.2 Ghz on the core and 3.7 Ghz on the ring.
But Then, my DDR4 is stuck at 2666 Mhz.
As soon as I try to level up the BCLK (even by 1Mhz), the board boots and CPU and RAM are OK but the XP941 isn't seen by the board anymore. It's very strange ! I don't get the link between the 2 : why is the BCLK affecting the PCIe or Sata system ?
So, in these conditions, I cannot achieve the 3000 Mhz possible on my RAM (which would require a 125 Mhz BCLK). It's kinda disappointing.
Is any of you experimenting the same phenomenon ? How can you explain ? Is there a solution ?

OK. So I tried again and took some snapshots.
First, I found a bug with this new 1.6 version of the Bios. Hope it won't crash ... My HDD are not recognized anymore !!
Then I tried to play with the settings. You will see below what the bios gives me as possibilities. Wether I enable or not the XMP profile or select the 200 Mhz or 266 Mhz reference clock, I cannot set the memory to 3000 Mhz !
    So to summarize :
I cannot raise the BCLK of the CPU or my M.2 SSD is not recognized anymore and my OS won't load
I cannot set my memory setting to 3000 Mhz whatever setting I'm trying
I found a bug in the new bios version in the list of Harddrives connected to the board
Not a happy week so far ...

  • Starting BIOS first time after build with X99S Sli plus

Is there a tutorial for the basic BIOS set up for this mobo?  I want to just set the computer to boot up tfrom my ssd.  Is there anything else I have to do in BIOS  before I load Windows 8.1?  I don't want to get into overclocking, just the basics.  Should I try to connect the computer to the internet right after I change the boot drive priority in BIOS? I'm thinking automatic updates to the BIOS via The Web.
