    Hi,
My WLAN adapter doesn't work under Vista. If I press FN + F8 nothing happens. The wireless-communication is still offline.
    What can I do?

    Please help me!

BIOS bug? I dont think so
Firstly you should ensure that this is not a hardware issue. In such case insert the Toshiba Recovery CD and reinstall the OS on this unit. This will set the notebook to the factory settings. Note; this would format the whole HDD.
After new installation, you have to enable the WLan switch at the notebooks side and then you could use the button switch FN+F8 to select the WLan.
I presume you have already configured your Wlan router. So the same settings like SSID, WLan encryption, etc must be set on the notebook too.

  • Problems with broadcom wlan adapter and wlan-button.

I've got a laptop (HP Compaq 6715S), which has an integrated wlan adapter (broadcom 4311/4312?). A couple of weeks ago the adapter was working ok with ndiswrapper and bcmwl5.inf driver, but it stopped working recently probably after ndiswrapper and/or kernel upgrade. Loading the ndiswrapper module from rc.conf made the whole system kernel panic (IRQ problem?) until I added:
    acpi=noirq
to the kernel boot parameters. Now this error doesn't occur every time I load ndiswrapper, but the problem still exists. BCM43xx driver doesn't work either. I'm using the 64-bit arch.

The other problem that I have is the wlan-button: The wlan adapter isn't always turned on at boot and I have found no way to turn it on from linux. It can be turned on by booting to windows or resetting the bios to defaults, but it is not very nice. I've noticed that pressing the wlan button adds one usb device:
    Bus 001 Device 003: ID 03f0:171d Hewlett-Packard
Is there a way to fix these problems?

When I used to use ndiswrapper, just downloading one of the generic INF files didn't do the trick for me. I had to go to my manufacturer's homepage and download it there extract the drivers from the exe and use them in order to get my card work reliably.
Also, have you used a 64 bit driver? This guy reckons you need it:
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ost2952703
I guess I solved it. I have been using the 64-bit driver, but have tried the 32-bit driver from hp diver site too.  For some reason ndiswrapper seems to install a driver named "ndiswrapper" with this 32-bit driver, which is why it didn't work. So my solution was:
    1) Get the 32-bit driver from hp.com
    2) rmmod ndiswrapper
    3) remove all installed ndiswrapper drivers: ndiswrapper -r <drivername>
    4) installed the 32-bit driver: ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
    5) ndiswrapper -l gave me:
    bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4312) present (alternate driver: bcm43xx)
    ndiswrapper : invalid driver!
    6) Got rid of the weird ndiswrapper driver inside ndiswrapper: ndiswrapper -r ndiswrapper
    7) modprobe ndiswrapper
Rebooted a couple of times and it seems to work ok.
    How about the wlan-button problem?

  • N82 as WLAN adapter

Whenever I google this, I find solutions pertaining how to share the PC's wifi connection to the phone via USB, which is the opposite of what I'm looking for.
I have an N82, and I want to share its wifi connection to my Windows XP computer via USB. In other words, I want to use it as a WLAN adapter. I haven't found any way to do this with the bundled software, but is there any third party software that does?

I see that you've given that answer before, but I don't want to buy a USB dongle. I have my reasons for this, and it's not that I'm a cheap **bleep**; I'm on a wireless only connection, which sometimes refuses my PC for reasons I haven't sorted out. However, when this happens, my Nokia phone still gets connected. Thus, I know that my phone has a connection, so if I could get that onto my computer it would be a safe bet and a good makeshift solution until the hotspot gets a good reboot. When the router is in that mood it refuses ALL the PCs in the house, but not my N82 and some other devices, that's why I don't think another adapter would do the trick (indeed, the PC already has a PCI wifi adapter from Linksys).
I can see many situations where such a solution could be useful, and it shouldn't be too hard to fix, either. What Joikuspot does seems a lot more complicated.

  • Tragedy: Express as a WLAN-Adapter/AP-Client?

    An avoidable tragedy:
    I bought a Mac Pro 2009 without the Airport-Card.
Didn't expect it to be an "option" when buying
the best apple offers... my fault.
I do really need the WLAN, so there are 2 options:
    1. Leave my workstation I'm depending on to an
apple authorized service for a few days... pay
50 bucks for the airport extreme + the service
    = at least 90 to 120 altogether...
+ alot of money I lose due to the lack of a
    replacement workstation while it's at
    the service
=> Thus NOT the option I can use...
    2. Buy a WLAN-Adapter...Oh wait: there is NO
    Mac-compatible one out there.
    ->So I need a WLAN-Access-Point-Client with
a RJ45/LAN port which will wirelessly connect to my
WLAN-Router. There are (thanks god) plenty available.
    the Airport Express looks interesting:
Can the Airport Express be used as an AP-Client?

Only if the wireless base station is compatible with ProxySTA or if the wireless network is being created by another AirPort Express (AX), an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), or a Time Capsule.

  • Driver for 0bda:8176 Realtek RTL8188CUS WLAN Adapter

    Hi there,
I hope you can help me. I just bought a 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter and tried to use it with Kubuntu and Archlinux. Both have the same problem. The device is recognised correctly and Wireless Networks are found, but when trying to connect it fails and asks for password again and again. The driver-install-script from the Realtek-Homepage does not work and exits with errors.
How could I get that one to work?
    Cheers,

It's the driver. The open source one is not working properly and realteks driver works 'til linux 3.9, there is a patch for ubuntu - I'll try to get that one working and post the results here - thanks for looking into this.

    1x RJ-45 (10/100Mbps) WAN poort
    4x RJ-45 (10/100Mbps) LAN poorten

    4Mb Flash mem.
    16Mb Dram
    SPI Firewall
    VPN Passthrough
    WEP 128-bit, WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK
Does anybody have some more info or user experience?
for example how much power does it use? (the eminent em4550 for example only use 5 watts)

The specs says the firmware is upgradable, but where can i find new firmware versions ?
(the number of firmware updates says something about the support for the product, more is better  )
    Where is the firmware download?
Has anyone looked at the hardware?  Is this router an Atheros ar9132 with ar9103 radio?  If so, exciting news!  MSI may have produced a high quality version of the Atheros AP81 platform routers.
If this router is ar9132 + ar9103, it is possible to run OpenWRT Linux on this router.  it would be able to use the Linux ath9k open wireless driver and have a bright future.  You can see more information at: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Aforum.openwrt.org+ap81&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

  • Wlan adapter not recognized after Standby (S205, Windows 8)

    Hi!
I installed Windows 8 to my Lenovo IdeaPad S205 Netbook just a few days ago. Unfortunately, I have problems with Wlan. In the beginning, it didn`t work at all. Then I found a thread in this forum, where somebody recommended to set the network as the first booting device. Doing so made the Wlan work!
But, after using the Standby-Mode of the netbook, Wlan doesn`t work again. The system says the adapter would be deactivated, though it certainly is activated. To make Wlan work again, I have to reboot the netbook.
I also noticed that sometimes it is not possible to start the Bios while booting. Always when that`s the case, Wlan doesn`t work.
I installed the newest drivers, also a driver I got from Atheros, the newest Windows 8 updates and I tried to de-/activate Lan adapter and to change the energy management setting - without sucess.
It seems I´m not the only one with these problems, but I didn`t find any solution so far.
    Do you have any idea?
    Best regards
    Philipp
Btw: I had no problems before with Windows 7.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi Phil205de,
If you're having issues accessing the BIOS after a shutdown, check this article.
As for the WLAN card not being recognized or not being able to detect wifi networks, try to:
    1. Turn the computer OFF and remove the wifi antenna (see page 42 of the hardware maintenance manual)
    2. Turn the computer ON and when it gets to Windows, shut the PC off.
    3. Reconnect the wifi antenna and turn the PC ON.
If you still get the same problem, try to Install Ubuntu via Wubi (can be uninstalled after) and try to check if you can now detect wifi networks. If everything's ok on Ubuntu, you need to reinstall Windows and load the wireless driver on Windows Setup as discussed in this article.
    Cheers

  • Satellite L50D-B-146 - WLAN Adapter drops the Wi-Fi connection

    Hi all,
I have a problem with the Wireless card (Broadcom adapter), it randomly drops the wifi connection for no apparent reason (I have disabled the power saving modules within win 7 etc).
Running the hardware diagnostics within the latest Toshiba/Broadcom driver package yielded everything passes with the exception of the SPROM checksum failing.
Is this a sign of faulty hardware? is it possible to reflash the SPROM with the correct data?
    Many thanks for any helo,
    Hob

    > Is this a sign of faulty hardware? is it possible to reflash the SPROM with the correct data?
I think you are on the wrong trace
If the WLan card is listed and recognized properly in device manager, then the WLan driver was installed properly.
The sporadic WLan disconnection issues might be related to different reasons which are:
    Router WLan compatibility issue
Router settings (kind of encryption, WPA WPA2, TKIP AES)
    WLan signal strength
I would recommend you to reset the Wlan router.
Then you could test the Wlan performance using not secured wireless network (of course just for testing purposes)
    Then test different encryption settings.
Also test the notebook with and without connected AC adaptor.

  • Z87 MSI Mpower Max Adaptive vcore not working properly?

Hi, first time MSI MB user here.
After I finished tweaking my OC settings, I changed the vcore voltage from fixed to adaptive mode, since that is said to lower the idle temps.
However, it doesn't seem to work in the way that I thought it would.
Vcore voltage stays at the same value regardless of whether the CPU is idle or under load.  I thought it would lower itself when the CPU is idle.
    Am I misunderstanding something here?
Voltage check done by AIDA64 and CPU-Z 1.64.3
    Below are my bios settings:

  • Optical Out problems with MSI-K8NS Motherboard Adapter

I have an MSI-K8NS motherboard which came with an extra PCI mount bracket for coax/fiber digital out sound. I just bought a Creative surround sound system set with digital decoder. I hooked the header into where I believe the pins should go into the motherboard and even have a light at the ends of the cable (seemingly has a signal, I presume). I have no idea how to enable this in software, however. The Realtek software that is installed doesn't seem to have any configuration for this digital out, and I can't find a way to use it. I've searched these forums, but still have no idea what's going on. Could someone please help?
    Thanks!
Edit: Ok, so it looks like the SoundManager software needs to be in 8 channel mode for spdif to work. I don't understand that, but at least I got it working. Hope this bit of info could help someone else out!

My best guess is because you are running the default BIOS. Try running with one stick of ram just to start with, so that you have a stable enough system to upgrade your bios to 1.3
I tried running the system with a single stick of ram and still the same thing happens
    Quote
did i miss it or have you not mentioned that since your ram is 166MHZ you have changed the memory divider to 166 in BIOS?
When I started the computer up, the motherboard automatically picked the memory modules up as 166Mhz.
    To Paul:
I tried to run the memtest86 several times.  It starts off for a while, then the computer hangs up as pervious situations.  It could just be that the RAM i am using is imcompatible.  I may have to invest into Corsair RAM modules.

  • How to install WLAN adapter in Satellite Pro A10

I am trying to set up a wireless connection with my Satellite Pro A10. I thought it was wireless enabled, but when I toggle the wireless switch, no light comes on and there is no wireless card listed under Network adaptors (so I guess not).
How easy is it to install a wireless adaptor (i.e. can I do it myself or do I need to have it done by a professional)? Can anyone recommend which card I should by (or any I should avoid)?
    Thanks.

    Hi
According the notebook specification your Satellite Pro A10 is WLAN ready. In notebook specification there are listed two compatible WLAN cards:
    PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b) and PA3273U-2MPC (802.11a/b).
I really do not know if you can use some faster WLAN cards with standard g. Maybe you will be lucky and someone will post here WLAN card upgrade results.
I am not 100% sure where the WLAN slot is placed but check please under the cover placed nears the battery.

  • T8200: Where is physical access to WLAN Adapter

    Hi,
I've bought a Tecra 8200. The internal WLAN card does not work. When I activate it with the button at the front of the notebook nothing happens.
The card is not recognized by WinXP -> means it doesn't appear in the device manager. It seems to be that the card is not "powered on".
However, can someone explain me how to open the notebook to check if cabling is correct? I removed all screws at the bottom of the case but the keyboard is still aligned with the rest of the notebook, so I cannot open it completely.
    Thanks.
