MSI VX6600-VTD256 (602-8988-010)

Hello:
I have MSI VX6600-VTD256 (602-8988-010)
When use the drivers on the install CD that came with the card by
running "setup" from the root directory of the CD everything works fine.
However if I use the latest MSI drivers (nvidia_xp2k.v71.22) or the
latest nvidia drivers (71.89_win2kxp_english) I get anomalies and or
artifacts on my desktop.
I would like to know why card works fine with the drivers on the install
CD, but has problems with the latest drivers even though the latest
drivers are in fact newer.

  • Does MSI FX5900SP VTD256 like ASUS A7S333?

I just got my new MSI GeForceFX5900SP VTD256.
After uninstalling my previous board and configuring my new card, my computer froze with a blank white screen.
After variuos unsuccessfull setups from at my BIOS, I decided to format and reinstall my Windows2000 with SP3.
As soon as I install my video drivers, the problem comes back.
Fooling around with my BIOS setup (AGP apperture size and stuff) and my card memory, 2D and 3D frequences, I could put my system to work ok for a longer time. But it freezes at the and anyway.
I found that my cards conf was unable to detect my AGP slot speed and capabilities (mine is 4X). And it detected it as "AGP(on PCI mode)".
I then updated my mobo BIOS and installed a new VGA driver from ASUS. Now my fx5900 can detect my AGP speed and now it displays "AGP" instead of "AGP(on PCI mode)".
I thought that would work but it still freezes after a moment. I unplugged all my periferals, leaving only my HD, CDRW and video card on fearing that it could be something with power force.
If I use only regular apps, like browsing the internet and stuff, my comp works for about 10 min before freezing. But if I run 3Dmark 2000, it crashes right in the 1st, 2nd test.
Any IDEAS what is going on? Is it overheating (the cooler runs ok and the temperature when I check is cool)? Is my card malfunctioning?
    Here's my systems config:
    Athlon XP1700+
    512MB DDR
    HD 40GB seagate 7200RPM
Mobo ASUS A7S333 - bios as331600 and most recent drivers
MSI GeForce fx5900SP VTD256 with most recent drivers
Config on BIOS set to -
    AGP Aperture size = 256MB
    Agp "Speed" = 4X
Video card = AGP VGA Card
    Supprt for PCI2.1 = enabled
    Fast writes = Enabled

What is a PSU? Power Supply Unit.
If it is, I will check it tonight and I will post it here.
Do you really think this is a power related problem?
I have already unppluged everything, leaving only my video card and HD turned on, eacho in its own power cord.
Thx in advance. I hope I can get this to work. My games are staring at me...
P.S. I'm thinking in buying ASUS A7V8X-X. Do u think this board will present no prblem with my new card?

  • OverClocking MSI FX5700-VTD256

Hey all... I've got a FX5700 256MB Video card installed on my computer, and I'm thinking of over clocking it (dispite that fact that its new). Does anybody have any idea how overclockable this card is? the model name is MSI FX5700-VTD256. (the stock clocks are 425 MHz core and 500 MHz DDR memory)

  • MSI 5900U VTD256 tv out problem

Where can I get the cables for the TV out from?
Ive got the card but only recently went to use the TV out. THe people who supplied it to me never gave me the cables for it so I cant use it.
Is there a dept at MSI where I can buy them as Im abit stuck without it.
Its the breakout box I am looking for.
The tvout on these cards isnt a standard SVHS connection.
    Its a 9 pin connector.
    Help..
    Craig

    Thanks for your reply.
I got it to work after installing detonator version 28.32. The supplied driver which I think is version 28.90 didn't work. Very weird...   :(
Anyway, since it's working now, I haven't tried switching the VGA port. The monitor is currently plugged into the inner VGA port (closer to the AGP port). I have no idea which one is VGA1 and VGA2...  ?(
I just hope that nVidia will fix this issue with the upcoming detonators.

A bad thing.  But the card is still flashable no matter what the condition of the BIOS within.  For example, have a looksy here

  • IRQ problems with 865PE Neo2V and MSI NX6600-VTD256 VGA

    Hi All,
I thought I would try a posting here first for help before filling out the cumbersome service request form. I recently purchased the 865PE Neo2V motherboard with an intel 3.2Ghz processor, 1 Twinmos 1024MB DDr400 memory, 2 Maxtor Diamond 250GB S-ATA HDD's and the MSI NX6600 VTD 256  AGP VGA card. I am also running a Plextor 716a dvd burner and a Toshiba DVD Rom on the secondary IDE slot nothing on the primary for 2 S-ATA drives and 2 P-ATA for a total of 4.  I have always had a very good experience with MSI products in the past, easy to install and for the most part problem free. That is until now. I am having a rough time with the VGA card and IRQ conflicts. In the past with all my MSI motherboards I was able to choose ( Reserve IRQ for VGA) Not so with the 865PE NEO 2V.( Unless I am missing something and doing it wrong) To make a long story short the MSI NX 6600 (NVIDIA GeForce 6600) VGA card is sharing IRQ 16 with Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2 and Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE. For the most part the system runs OK except every so often during startup the system loses the VGA Card and tries to reinstall the card and software. After reinstalling the software the first time it happened I subsequently tried choosing Cancel on the prompt to install and simply reboot the computer. To my surprise the system always seems to see the VGA card on the second boot! and works fine. I have been running the system for two days now with the USB disabled in the bios which gives the VGA card IRQ 16 by itself,  so far the system has seen the VGA card each and every startup without problems. Since the USB and AGP are fixed I am unable to move anything. Unfortunately I need the USB for my printer and scanner. I would also like to add that I have the latest BIOS upgrade for the Motherboard and the latest MSI Drivers for the VGA card.
Any suggestions on how to get the VGA card on its own IRQ?
    Thanks for any input
    Mike
Edited to add that For an OS I have WinXP Pro service pack2

or rather, the poorly installed drivers.
    Frankenputer
I take umbrage with your statement. I installed the latest drivers from MSI correctly! I also chose not to install the very latest as they are a Beta version with the warning they may be unstable!  Perhaps I was under the misguided impression that I would be better off with the latest drivers offered by MSI for the particular VGA card I paid my good money for! ( this is the main reason I thought the problem was not driver related!) It is not my fault that MSI dropped the ball in its offerings to its valued customers!
Just because I was being polite to Hans who offered so much good advice and showed such a genuine concern for my troubles doesn't mean I had not read the advice from Nvidia on how to uninstall and reinstall "their" drivers! I will admit though that from my read on Nvidias suggestions they did not go as far as to recommend uninstalling the norton works completely, only disabling it!
On another note My computer seems to be starting so far without the problem!  On yet another note after installing Nvidias driver package Version: 91.31 You get a warning every time you start up that the SLI is disabled. (unless your sli equipped) I found a fix for it and have it stored on my web space if anyone wants it. It is a zip file and I guarantee that I've scanned it with Norton and it is virus free. After unzipping it and clicking on it it makes an entry into the system registry removing the warning.

The latest driver for the VGA can be found on www.nvidia.com. We (and
other VGA vendors) do not make our own drivers, nVidia (and ATI) make
the drivers. So at the website from nVidia the latest drivers can be

  • The MSI FX5900U-VTD256 and its power consumption.

Can anyone please tell me, roughly, how many watts this beast requires when I'm doing non graphics intensive activities like web surfing, posting to usenet, playing music, etc?
    Collosus.

I measured today my FX5900 128 buy placing an amp meater in the extra power plug ( I had to cut it to do that  :] )
    idle  12V 0.65A, 5v 0.4A = 9.8W
    load* 12V 2.9A, 5v 2.5A = 47.3W
    *3D Mark2003 MotherNature scene 1024x768x32 2x2AA 4xAF
The loade figures give 47W and apperantly the card is supposed to use around 70W so there might be some 20W drawn from the AGP BUS, therfor it would be hard to be certine that the idle usage is really 9.8W and I don't know how usefull this test it.

  • Screen colors go stupid after boot. (FX5600-TD128)

I resently installed the FX5600. I previously had a Radon 7200 installed. I frist removed the ATI drivers and utilities before installing the MSI FX5600 and it's drivers. At first it worked ok. I then decided to install the E-Color utility. It then that I started having color troubles. I didn't like what E-Color did to the colors of photographs. So uninstalled E-color. Now things got worse. When the pc rebooted the colors were fine up until the icons started appearing on the desktop. The colors went to an almost random pattern. The only way to fix it was to click on the Nivida Icon in the systray go to custom color settings and click "Restore Hardware Defaults". There are no custom ones shown above this line.
So the question is. How do I fix it so the colors always boot up to the default and stay there? The driver is for some reason finding bogus color correction data and installing it at bootup.
One more thing. I went to install the InterVideo WinDVD software, (which came bundled), and no CD key was included, (which the install requires). Also the MSI Media Center Deluxe II did not install properly. There's a problem with one of the dll files and I also could not uninstall it.
I'm probably going to have to wipe the C drive and start over from scratch to remove all of the corruption. But I would like to have a short term fix for now.

did you get a disc bundled with your videocard called RestoreIT!  ?  i received this with mine, but never bothered installing it.  earlier last week, i messed a few things up on my system, and if i had put this on and had it running in the background, i could probably have saved myself.  it is very similar to the WindowsXPSystemRestore, but it has a lot more options and flexibility.  my weekend was spent re-installing Windows, and this time around, i'm gonna be smart and get it up and running for any of those "just in case" situations.
if you do decide to wipe Windows, since you know ahead of time, at least you can back up everything on your harddrive....

Nope, the only difference is that, with the extreme edition, the multipier is unlocked.
Did you have bios version 1.1 or higher, cause on site it says supported from bios v1.1, see here:

  • MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 System freeze in fullscreen 3D games

    Greetings everyone
I changed from a MSI GF4 Ti4200 to a MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 about two months ago and since then I have the following problem:
During any 3D game I have tested so far (which are a very few, I admit... too little time available) and after about 10 secs to 10 minutes of the game running in fullscreen, the system freezes completely (no mouse movement, no alt-tab, no soft reset) while the sound goes on looping. Games I have tested include UT2003, Star Wars Racer, Syberia. System also freezes during any version of 3DMark.
Strangely enough, I never had a problem with UT. No problem also with any game in windowed mode (where available), for instance played UT2003 in windowed mode for about an hour, then switched to fullscreen, then system freeze after about one minute. Furthermore, no prob in any 3D app (3DS, ...) or while developing 3D (OpenGL).
I have tried each and every available VGA driver, either from MSI or straight from nVidia. No change at all except with the 52.16 drivers using which the system still freezes but does not remain frozen, instead, after about two minutes a BSOD comes up announcing that...
"A problem has been detected ...
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: nv4_disp.
If this is the first time ...
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates
problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the
    hardware incorrectly.
Please check with your hardware device vendor for ...

    nv4_disp"
Same behaviour with the card severely underclocked through the MSI Timings control panel tab.
    Other things I have done:
    - Changed aperture size to various values: No change
    - Reinstalled nForce2 drivers: No change
    - Uninstalled and cleaned (Driver Cleaner) sound drivers, disabled SB: No change
    - Disabled onboard audio and LAN: No change
    - Tried all possible device driver setting for AA, filtering, rez, others: No change
    - Checked memory (memtest86+): No errors
Another issue with the card that might be of use mentioning here is that the 3D!Turbo Experience app does not display Temperature, Voltage and Frequency: The respective displays are dimmed and controls are grayed.
Thanx in advance for ANY help / suggestions / similar experiences
    Jorge

    Greetings my good mates.
GlennVidia, a great and professional post about parametric differences! Finalreminder thanx a great lot for the versions and info! It seems that 3D!Turbo Experience does not work with 5950U eventhough it bundles with it. On my mobo the "Version 1" tag is under the VGA so this is probable why you can't see it (needless to say that I am not suggesting that I want you to remove your VGA just to give me this not-so-important info ).
    Here's what happened last night.
I finally decided that I could no longer avoid what I've been avoiding since the very beginning, that is, mess with my other desktop, a Linux box with a Shuttle AK32 mobo, an Athlon XP 1800+, 256 of noname DDR and various other stuff. Another reason I didn't transfer the card to the AK32 mobo at the first instant is that I had always considered the AK32 an inappropriate testbed for the 5950. However, I felt I was in desperate need to check the 5950 on another mobo. So I set up the system above with very conservative bios settings and crap memory timing, the 5950, the Heroichi 450w psu, neither chassis nor chipset fan, and then installed WinXP Pro, SP1, DX9.0b, Hyperion 14.45 and MSI VGA 56.63.
The 5950 was running at AGP 4x, CPU at 50-52C idle, system 27C idle, voltages a little low (for instance, 11.75 for the 12+), however:
    - 3DMark 2003 completes at first run (first time I was able to see the entire test).
    - 3DMark 2001 completes at first run.
    - UT2003 does not freeze no matter how long it runs (and I am talking extreme settings for AA, details, resolution, etc).
    - Both 3DMarks keep running countless times or in loop mode without freezing.
I understand that the AGP 4x makes a huge difference on the communication between the mobo and the VGA. However, I doubt that the problem will go away on the K7N2 if I set it to AGP 4x (which I am not willing to do anyway). There are yet many tests to be done (new K7N2 bios, etc), however this is the first optimistic result I have got since three weeks now and I am quite happy about it. I might be wrong, but now I am almost 100% certain that the 5950 is not faulty.
Furthermore: On a K7N2, Finalreminder had the exact same problem as me with 3DMark 2003, that is, freezing during CPU tests (mine would also always freeze during the CPU tests and nowhere else). I think this rules out the chance of a HW fault on my mobo only.
Another pattern I have isolated is that better cooling has solved most (if not all) of Finalreminer's problems and quite a few of mine (at the beginning, 3DMark 2001 would freeze during the first run and UT2003 after a few minutes), and this too is common in both cases, Finalreminder's and mine. However, in my case, the freezing is still there even in extremely low temperature cases. To rule out the chance that temperatures go high during fullscreen 3D, I used Motherboard Monitor to log temps and voltages. Right now the log file is on a non-attached disk so I can't upload it and give you the url (I'll do that), but I can tell you that the temps and voltages are great during an entire 3DMark that ended-up freezing: CPU goes to max 58C, system to max 37C.
I think that the only hypothesis that may still stand is that MSI K7N2 Delta and MSI 5950U VTD-256 is, sometimes, a bad combination, no matter how ridiculous this may sound.
By no means am I suggesting that this is MSI's fault! As GlennVidia has explained in his latest great post about parametric differences and as my basic knowledge of electronics enables me to understand (I am a radio amateur), these are things that happen and cannot be predicted. I trust MSI and will keep trusting it.
To solve my issue, after some more testing, I am most probably going for a new mobo. I am open to suggestions and wondering if it would be a good idea to start a new thread about WORKING combinations of MSI 5950U-VTD256 and various mobos. This forum has been far too helpful for me to go out and buy something without getting feedback first .

  • [GeForceFX] Issues with FX5700-VTD256 under Win XP

    Hello everybody,
Will appreciate your help or advice on the above problems I am experiencing with the MSI FX5700-VTD256 VGA PCI Card
I am using the following driver versions
For VGA - NVIDIA VGA Driver 71.25 for Win XP/2000
For Capture - NVIDIA Capture Driver (For FX series)
    Downloaded from http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=533&kind=2
My configuration is AMD with 512 MB Ram under Win XP SP2
    VGA problem
I am getting bad JPEG quality when browsing the web under either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, that is, picture under the JPEG format does display but with lots of artefacts, pixel soups around or in the pictures. What is causing this?
    Capture problem
My capture card automatically set itself to NTSC colour standard each time I restart my PC, I can set this via Virtual each time. Are there any other settings which I can access to set it to PAL or SECAM permanently? If not, why this auto set up to NTSC?
    Thank you.
    Antony

I will like to update my posting, the jpeg display problem seems to be from the internet accelerator utilities provided by my ISP which reduce the quality of JPEG for the acceleration of web site display. But I am not sure if this is the main reason, have to test from another ISP to be sure.
