MSI Why No HT Support On 845e Max Rev1

Please can someone from MSI tell me if there is anyway to update my 845E Max 6566 MB to utilise Hyper Threading. I have the latest Bios Revision 5.9.
In the specs on this website it says that the 845E Max DOES support HT. Yet mine does not have a Bios menu for it.
Is there any way to enable HT short of buying a new MB (which I do not really want to do as I though my current one should support HT).
TIA

This link is to supported CPU's (Sorry 800FSB not supported)
HyperThreading is ONLY supported under the XP range of Windows......
Has for HARDWARE mods..... be careful!!!!
There is some input from me.........also check the Overclockers section of MSI Forum.....resources there!!!

    Hi!
So I already have 845E Max (MSI-6566E), so I have this prob. In idle 46~48C,  and on high use 55~57C.
I think it is bad, because in this temperature can't overclock the system, or not stable :(
And the Intel Cooler, (in the BOX version of CPU) so weak.
    So 2 solution we have:
1.) Big copper cooler, with least 6 or 8cm fan.
      - can be noisy :-(
    2.) Watercooling system
     - the best choice (I'm already on making )
     - quit
     - safe
    Just Do It!
    Nice Day 2 U Meeen!

  • Msi 845e max

I cant seem to overclock my p4 1.8a over 125FSB.  At this setting i can overclock my memory to 333mhz or 250mhz, no problem there.  If i try to overclock any further i get 8 beeps which, when i check out the beep codes, indicates a memory error on the video card which is a Creative G4 Ti4400, not overclocked.  All i can presume is there is no way of adjusting the AGP bus which is overclocking the G4 too much!!!  Anyone know how to overcome this problem???? ?(

I don't have an answer for you just letting you know that  I got my P4 2.0a to 145FSB (2.9GHz) can't go higher.  Therefore it's not the mobo it's one of your components.

  • MSI 6566E (845E Max)

I have recently bought the MS-6566E m/b (845E Max). The problem I experience is strange :
The 1st time I bought this m/b, it does not detect the HDD (IBM 25GP-352030 or Maxtor D740X-6L0402J. I went to the shop to get a new replacement.
After installing the m/b again, I still encounter problem but with different case. This time, the m/b always reflect the HDD name incorrectly eg. Maxtor becomes haxtor, or the IBM become IHM etc.. it  continue to be that way.
This does not end here, on occasion it only detect the Maxtor HDD size as only 5G instead of 40Gb. I did a low level, high leve format, clear the MBR but the problem still happen intermittently without much solution.
On some occasion after formatting the HDD with eg. with Win98 system, when I boot up, I could not get the 'command prompt' as the system just hang there with only the cursor blinking at the top left of the screen.
I did change my DDR 266Mhz RAM from Crucial to Transcend but does not help either.
On the other hand, when I take the 2 HDDs and installed in another PC, it works perfectly ok. Able to see the HDD name correctly and no errors.
The other funny thing is that, when I managed to get the m/b recognised the HDD, I can install any OS, eg. Win98SE, Win XP or Win2000, however after the completion of installation these OS, I can get th ?( e system
booted up. The screen will show only the cursor blinking at the top left corner. Various means to get the HDD bootup fail.
By the way, I have spent about 4 days without resolving the case. The funny thing is that, I'm not so sure even after replacing with another new m/b,
Grateful for any one of your help.
    Thanks, mf  ?(  ?(

Yes, I did change the IDE cable and dismantle and reinstall the m/b to the chassis.
Strangely now that it seems that whenever I cool down the system, I can boot up (eg. Win98) startup boot menu selection, however when I select 'Normal'
or 'Safe Mode', I will go into 'Fatal Exception 0D at 0147:xxxxxx' error. This always happen after I've cool
    down the system and reboot.
If I dont let the system cool down, when I boot up, I get
the same problem of blank screen and the cursor just stay at the top left corner awaiting for something ?
Ytd, I did manage to get a spare P4 1.7Ghz CPU (478) and replace the exisiting one but the same problem appears as I have mention before.
I do not suspect the HDD or FDD is having problem as both HDD can be install and configure with different2 OS when installed in another PC.
I also did try to installed these HDD in this m/b after configuring it with Windows from other PC. However, the
    problem as describe above remains.
So I have reassemble the m/b, change CPU, change the RAM type, swap the RAM slots, change VGA cards and HDD too. I have now taken 5 days to install this PC.
Any other help... my friends, mf

  • Help! Problems with 845E MAX HSF seating

have a MSI 845E MAX and a P4 2.8 GHz cpu. I bought a coolmaster L71 for 478 socket type but when I put it on the cpu, the four little plastic white pins that hold the HSF mounting tray in place prevents the HSF from actually connecting with the CPU unless I use a load on paste (which is wrong)
If I take out the pins the HSF sits on the CPU fine but surley this cannot be correct? Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas why?
I have also tried a mates P4 S478 HSF and it does the same, the four pins seem to stop it touching the cpu correctly.
    Party

What's up? I got your Email - I don't know about cutting those pins off. Man, that really sucks those heatsinks aren't fitting correctly. What would be wrong with getting a stock Intel fan/heatsink? They are really cheap. I saw one for $7 shipped. Or get the f/h I have. It's a Coolermaster D14-7H53D. However, if you want to try and cut those pins go ahead because you can always buy a new bracket if it doesn't work. Let me know what happens. Good luck.
Man, you can't say (s)ucks in this forum.

  • No audio on the 845E Max

I just installed a Celeron 2.4GHz/845E Max combo, and got everything working except the embedded sound card.
Then I figured out that I needed to install the drivers on the CD-ROM, so I did it.  After re-starting, the sound card was automatically detected and "Realtek AC'97 Audio" is installed.
But it still doesn't work.  The volume control appears in the system tray, and when I check the properties of "Realtek AC'97 Audio", it just says "this device is working properly".
But if I play an mp3 in winamp, the system hangs for a second and the mp3 never actually plays.  It just sticks at 0 seconds.  Same with "Sound Recorder".  Windows Media Player hangs for a while, then appears to be playing a mp3 or wav, but nothing comes out of the speakers.
If anybody could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.  I don't want to have to buy another sound card if I already have one that can work.
    Thanks,
    Chad Handrich

In the control panel under "Sounds and Multimedia", under the "Audio" tab, the preferred devices are:
    Sound Playback:  Realtek AC97 Audio
    Sound Recording:  Realtek AC97 Audio
MIDI Music Playback:  Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
I don't get it.  I even turned hardware acceleration off in case that was causing the problem, and it still behaves in the same way.
If this helps, this is how I setup my system:
    1)  Formatted my C drive and installed Windows 2000
    2)  Used Windows Update to install every critial update and every recommended Windows 2000 update, including DirectX 9.
    3)  Went to the driver download section of the MSI website and installed "Onboard AC97 Codec Driver:  Support model  K7D Master (MS-6501):  Description  - AMD AC97 Codec Driver version 10B".  But that didn't do anything.
    4)  Realized I had a "Drivers and Utilities" CD, so I installed the drivers there and then Windows 2000 detected the AC97 Audio soundcard.
    5)  The control panel now shows that my soundcard is installed and working, but, as I said before, winamp and sound recorder hang for a second when I try to play a sound and don't actually play anything.  Windows Media Player hangs for a second, then looks like it's playing something, but no sound comes out.

  • Has anyone used an ATI All in Wonder 128 Pro with the 845E Max? Are they compatible?

I have an 845 E Max and an old ATI All In Wonder Pro 128.  The ATI is a Rage Pro 128 with a Universal Connector Type and AGP Spec of 2X.  MSI says it will work, but I fear conflicts with a vid card that has 3.3v spec for a 1X.
    Anyone have any advice?
Anyone have any recommended power supplies for the 845E Max?

  • Is old 845E Max the same as 845E Max (HT ready)?

    Hi:)
I've got MSI 6566 845E Max mainboard. But the only mainboard i found on http://www.msi.com.tw is 845E Max (HT ready). Can i use driver, firmware etc updates if they r for 845E Max (HT ready) to my mainboard? And finally, can i mount a Intel HT processor?
    Thx for answer in advance.

I am NOT trying to be a WISE-GUY fellas! But I will BET you guy's the house that if he DOWNLOADS the BIOS (5.7) that his MO-BO WILL INDEED BE ABLE TO RUN IN H-T MODE, (as long as he gets a H-T PROC.)!. I say this because this has been done with other MO-BO companies! ie VIA, ASUS, AOPEN. I CAN VERIFY THIS STATEMENT FOR THE FACT THAT MY OTHER PC, A VIA P4BP-400-FL REV 2.0. WAS BUILT BEFORE (HT) CAME OUT, And on the VIA FORUM THESE SAME QUESTIONS WHERE ASKED! BECAUSE THE SAME BOARD WHITH REV.3.0 WAS (H-T) READY. BUT THE NEW BIOS REV. WAS FOR BOTH BOARDS!! I FLASHED BIOS (Thinking my BOARD would be a mess) BUT NO!! MY BOARD WAS NOW (H-T) READY!. SO I MUST SAY THAT I HAVE MORE FAITH IN MSI THEN I DO IN VIA, HENCE THE REASON I SAY THAT (IF THE NEW BIOS IS FOR BOTH BOARDS "REV 1.0 AND LATER) THEN Gotrec WILL INDEED HAVE A (H-T) BOARD AFTER HE FLASHES AND GETS A NEW PROC.!!   PS. IF IT DOES NOT WORK FOR HIM I WILL BE IN HIDING ...Sean REILLY875

  • 845E Max-L does not see 5 1/4 in. floppy drive

My first 845E Max-L mb had no problems with my Teac FD-505 combo (3 1/2 in. + 5 1/4 in.) floppy drive. I was able to boot to DOS on the 3 1/2 in. drive and access the 5 1/4 in. drive normally. However, the first board developed a serious problem and was replaced by the vendor.
The new board is unable to view the 5 1/4 in. drive when booted to DOS on the 3 1/2 in. drive. Both drives are correctly configured in the BIOS and both are visible on the CMOS summary page.
When I boot into any O/S, both drives are visible in My Computer and both are accessible. However, if the PC is put into S3 standby (suspend-to-RAM) and then resumed, the 5 1/4 in. drive can no longer be accessed and Windows reports an I/O error.
I removed the Teac combo drive, installed an individual 5 1/4 in. drive, configured it in the BIOS and it was duly identified on the CMOS screen. With a system disk in the drive, the system was booted. It went through a floppy seek, the floppy drive access light turned on, and then the floppy was ignored as the boot continued off the hard drive.
I tried downgrading the MSI BIOS from ver. 5.7 to ver. 5.5, but that didn't eliminate the problem. (The BIOS was, of course, reset using the JBAT1 jumper.) I tried different floppy cables, to no avail.
The Teac combo floppy and the single 5 1/4 in. drive work normally on another non-MSI mb.
How can I get the 5 1/4 in. drive to work correctly and, once in Windows, after resuming from standby? Is use of 5 1/4 in. drives a known problem with this mb? If not, could the problem be due to a bad fd controller?

    Hi, Assaf.
    Thanks for your response.
FOA, I no longer have the first board, so I don't know its PCB revision.
As for the new board, how do I see its PCB revision? Is it on the board somewhere? If so, where?
    regards, Andy

  • No Video Card Works - 845E-Max

I purchase a new 845E-Max several years ago, and could not find a video card to work on this board.  I gave up and put the board in storage until recently  (hate to discard a new board).  when I place a video card in the board it will not start.  when the card is partly removed from the agp slot the board powers up, place card into board it shuts down.
I have tried MSI G4 Ti4200, MSI Ti4400, MSI FX5200, Jaton 3DForce TNT2 4x AGP card. I can remember trying some ATI cards too. I was hoping to put this board together for the holidays and here i am with the age old problem of "no video card works"  I know this is a AGP 4X board  - Any suggestions ? ? ?
    Thanks - Hap

hi I suggest you take the board out of your chassis, assemble it on your desk, then try to slot in your display card. It could be due to your chassis and the motherboard doesn't fit well so whenever you fully slot in your display card, it just couldn't fit in well.

  • Need MAJOR HELP recovering an 845E-Max board (no post)

Hey guys and gals, I need some SERIOUS SERIOUS help here recovering my old board. I have an MSI 845E-MAX board, and decided to do some overclocking to it. While doing it, I raised the FSB too much, and now the system wont post. So I know what your all thinking, ok, take out your CMOS battery, or clear the JBAT1 jumpers. While ive done that, repeatedly, to no avail. Ive cleared the jumpers over and over, nothing. Taken the battery out for a 24hr period, nothing. Took the battery out for nearly a MONTH!, and nothing. Next your probally thinking, while maybe its bad RAM, Vid Card, CPU, etc. While it isnt lol Ive replaced/tested all the current hardware in other systems and they all work fine. Ive got a defenet mobo problem, and its really pissing me off lol on other boards by other manufacturers, if I put my FSB to high and it didnt post, restarting would put it into default specs, so I could adjust my fsb as needed. With this 845E though, its no such luck, and reseting the CMOS dosent do anything to fix it. Ive also read some posts about other boards who dont even have a JBAT1 jumper, and used an "insert" key method, where they power down, hold down the insert key, and boot up. Decided to try this, and it did nothing. I didnt think it was made for my board in the first place, but decided to give it a shot. IVe also tried reflashing/recovering the bios, by downloading the newest bios (its an AMI i believe) renaming it, putting it to a floppy, and booting the system holding CTRL+HOME to force the update. but it does nothing, and dosent even seem to read the floppy as the little green light dosent come on when i power up. The DVD/CD drive does though, and wehn i place WIN XP SP2 in the drive, it reads it and green light stays solid, so its just the floppy drive im having probs with I guess. Also, i get no beeps at startup, but can hear the hard drive boot and spin. I list my hardware specs below to help
So PLEASE, some MSI guru, help me before I go crazy here! :P thanx a million to any one who can lend a hand.

I do indeed...and yah i get no beeps at all....
but everything powers up fine...hdd spins...cd rom turns on, if i put in a Nic card, the green light comes when a cat5 cable is in it. So it looks like everything is receing power fine, but i just get no beeps at all to signify start up
