MSI Wind PC barebone usb problem

Hi,
I'm having a problem with a new MSI Wind barebone pc I just purchased.  The USB ports only work in full speed instead of high speed (USB 2.0) mode.
I don't think I had this problem before the bios update.  I updated the bios to the latest rev because of a problem with s3 mode.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks for the advice.  I have another one on order to test my current OS install.  Hopefully, it will show that it is a motherboard chip issue and should qualify for a Newegg RMA.  I've built many PCs over the year, and I have not had this much difficulty in getting them to work properly.  The MSI PC Wind nettop seems like a good replacement for my several Shuttle XPC's (3 - 6 years old) that have reached their upgrade limits.  In the past three months, I've had to replace their special power supplies at over $80 a pop.  Newegg is selling the Wind for $140, and it seems to be a cost effective and "green" alternative to replacing power supplies.  I'll post the results of the replacement PC Wind in resolving this USB 2 issue.  Thanks again.

  • MOVED: MSI Wind U115 screen resolution problems

This topic has been moved to MSI Notebook.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=131560.0

The speakers are built into the unit so I do not have a seperate speaker volume control. This is the Wind Top all in one unit.
The only way to control the volume is by using the external volume buttons. Some programs do not have a internal volume control so our clients are going to need to use those external buttons. This is a major setback considering we are a reseller and would be selling hundreds of units.
I don't think I have the SCM software installed.
    Any other suggestions?
Why would MSI create a driver that when you adjust the volume it takes over the screen and causes programs to minimize? Seems a little crazy.

  • MSI-645 Ultra C USB problem

I have an MS-6457(v2.X) ATX mainboard with a D bracket but the two USB ports on the bracket do not work I have tried plugging in my usb mouse but nothing happens. I have plugged the lead in to both jusb1 and jusb2 but no go, is there some way that these ports need to be turned on? thanks for any help. Ron

looked in the bios they are already enabled are the ports in this "intergrated peripherals" the ones mounted on the motherboard? The ones I am having problems with are on the D bracket connected to the board with a fly lead. I have looked at the motherboard settings with Si Soft Sandra and at the end of the report there is a warning" W2533 disabled host controllers are present check bios" but I can not find any other settings to try apart from the one you mentioned  which is already enabled any other ideas? Thanks Ron.

  • [Vox] MSI VOX TV BOX USB 2.0 problem with audio drivers compatibility

    Ok,let's go...
I have a DELL Latitude d510 laptop with a centrino 1.73 GHz procesor and a soundcard supported by Sigmatel software Sigmatel C-Major audio.I bought MSI VOX TV BOX USB 2.0 and tried to install it on my lap top.Yes,I had problems with SP2 on my XP and the MSIVPS software from the instalation CD was crashing every time I tried to start it,but I solved those problems by downloading the latest drivers and the 3.xx version of MSIPVS.But...I still have a problem with audio. To be precise it seems that my audio drivers are incompatible with the VOX drivers. So now I have video but I don't have audio. Also I installed the tv card on my desktop machine and it worked like a charm(everything workes:audio, video, the old MSIPVS which I like better than the new one cause it supports my remote, has better way of managing scanned channels,e.t.c ,but I have USB 1.1 on my MB so the image quality is very poor).I did a lot of experimenting, for example i uninstaled my audio drivers(that Sigmatel C-Major thing),and installed the old MSIVPS and guess what...IT WORKED but there is no use from this cause I don't have audio On the other hand if I have everything installed then in the MSIVPS (the 3.xx version not the old one) under audio I get CD Player as an input audio device(what happened with microphone...?).To cut the long story short I tried a bunch of things and still no audio. Is there any other case of DELL audio software-VOX incompatibility?Any ideas,or solutions?

thank you for answering me. y have no pci card working, only usb 2.0 and sata devices. also, the MSI geforce 9600gt PExp 2.0 gpu. the only usb 2.0 devices which work, are the flash (pen) drives, keyboard and mouse. but no way that the WLAn adapter and TVcapture, both usb 2.0 work.i've  tested them front side and rear side and is the same failure: if i use a pendrive, works ok. if i insert the wlan or the tv capture stop work as the 2.0 and a advertising window tell me to change to a 2.0 port, means the ports are working slower, at 1.1.  i still have the other PC, built on the MSI K9N4-slif mobo, tested them and both devices work at perfection.  i have 2 screenshots to show you:
this, is the device manager (sorry, in spanish but you understand that's about the nVIDIA EHCI USB 2.0 controller. the 2nd one seems to be more sensitive (works worth) then the first one. when the tvcapture begin work, then fails, i'm trying to update this controller, does it ok but then the devicemanager-window freeze. i must stroke the "enter" key to "accept" / finish the update. then, fails again:
the other one is from everest corporate edition:
both drivers marked with purple colour!
i think i should update this Win XP drivers, but how? the usbport.inf file (C:\Windows\inf) don't change anything. i don't want to switch xp to vista, i'm happy whit it.
i'm thinking also on another possibility: could be an energy failure? some usb devices, like the big usb flash dives. 250-320gb, fail because the 5v/usb are receiving it's not enough. could be, but that means this mobo has no solution and i'll loose my money.
thank you very much and i'll stay alert of your suggestions. by

  • MSI RS480M2 - USB Problems - RS480M2 USB

Anyone having any strange behavior using wireless USB kb and / or USB mouse on the MSI RS480 board?
I have 100% failure rate using 3 different wireless keyboards... The only way to fix is to reboot the system which will reestablish the connectivity.  then in about 1-3 days I loose the wireless kb connection.  USB trackball mouse is fine except for some studdering.
this is killing me - but I'm hopeful a bios fix or something related to my setup could be to blame.  Anyone? Moderators?  The MSI quality seems very very good.  Should I contact MSI support?
    I use bios rev. 3.2

I do have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, but have them connected PS/2.  I'll test them in USB when I get a chance.  I usually avoid USB when PS/2 ports are present.....It just seems to avoid problems.
I haven't had any problems with the USB 2.0 Flash memory reader on USB internal.  No systems log errors to indicate any type of USB problem.  I've even booted from the Flash (I posted a thread on that result).  I tried a USB 1.1 CAM on all the ports front and back to verify they were working, but not any prolonged tests.  Sounds like more testing is needed.
I have seen mention (during google searches on the chipset) of a possible issue with ATI's USB having problems.  ATI seems to have licensed alot of what's integrated on the SB400 from others, so I check who and what on the USB.  Drivers are always a possibility.  I do have XP-SP2 installed.
    Danno
Edit:  OK...you guys got me concerned enough that I just switch to USB on keyboard and mouse.  They detected and installed fine.  I'll let you know if it fails in the next hour.  I'll try Sleep mode and return too.
Edit2:  Sleep works...no problem other than it asks what I wanted to do when I hit the Sleep button on the keyboard.  I use a "giggle" on the mouse to return from sleep.  I looked at the USB vendor codes and they're ATI's.  It's using the standard generic SP2 drivers.  Other than waiting, any way to MAKE IT FAIL?  I will stay with USB for the next few days and report back any problems.
Edit3:  Since there's no room in my profile, here's the link to my keyboard-mouse.

thx Dannol48,  I use logitech elite, memorex, msft black standard wireless, even a phillips wireless kb.  all work great... then after 1-3 days I need to reboot.
I run MS XP MCE2005 w/ Ms remote + at least 4 other USB devices attached besides the wireless KB.  the usb trackball (MSFT thumb ball) mouse is attached via a USB hub I velcro'd to my couch.  I operate this 20ft away from the TV - which is the only display device.  I've loaded the OS 3X now trying to isolate if it's the OS w/ no change.
I've been using a very similar setup to above for about 4 years now. never had an issue like this.  It could be ATI issue... or BIOS?  i dunno.

  • Can't start MSI Wind DC110

Hi, I have an MSI Wind DC110 as a media centre in my living room. Today when I attempted to start it up it stopped on a screen saying "Press F3 to run Recovery Tool". There is no way I can find to get past this screen. I have a wireless keyboard, and the box does not respond to any key-press. I plugged in a USB keyboard, and no lights come on and no keys work. I am completely stuck and unable to boot the box.

    Hello,
In my opinion this is a defective product, as without reading a manual you should be able to get ANY video, no matter of cable. Unless you have bought a proper barebone (which I believe are being sold too). However before you RMA, did you have everything connected? i.e. keyboard, mouse, power and video cables. Not sure (didn't have a pleasure to read manual yet) but does it have some reset button anywhere? Also did you try spamming Delete key when trying to boot in order to get to BIOS?
Ahh one more thing: did this come with anything else? Such as USB drive, or drivers on something? Because when I had trouble with my motherboard(had asus before), inserting CD that came with it, restored BIOS settings. Not sure how this one works, but all I see it doesn't have any CD/DVD Rom..

  • Can not sync centro with MSI Wind

I just purchased a new netbook (MSI Wind) and I want to use my Centro for internet (via PdaNet).  I have done this in the past with my MacBook Pro (running Windows XP Pro in boot camp) and with my Latitude D630 (also Windows XP Pro).  For some reason, however, I can't even get hotsync to work with the MSI Wind (running Windows XP home).
I started out by installing the latest version of PalmDesktop (downloaded from Palm.com).  During the point in time where the installation calls for syncing, I tried to sync and it would not work.  There was no error on the PC.  No hotsync window opened.  Eventually the centro just gave me a generic "can not connect" message:
"The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again."
Of course I tried the online support first: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,Case=obj(2630)
I did everything I could: disconnect Plam device, soft reset, clean the connector, check the ports, etc.  I used the developer's back door.  I tried rebooting the MSI Wind and trying again.  (Yes, the Palm Desktop application is running.)  I tried plugging my Centro into the Dell Latitude I have laying around.  It synced.  I plugged it back into the MSI Wind.  No die.  I tried multiple ports on the MSI Wind.  The only thing I didn't do is check the HotSync configuration because the link from the KB article is broken: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,Case=obj(28536), but I did check all the settings that I could see from the PalmDesktop installation on the Dell (where it works) and the MSI (where it doesn't) and everything looked identical to me.  I also haven't re-installed the PalmDesktop softare (yet) because it doesn't make sense that there would be left-over files from a previous installation given that this is a fresh installation of Windows and the first time I've installed PalmDesktop.
I don't know what the problem is.  Any further suggestions?  It's really a bummer.  The MSI Wind is pretty much useless to me if I can't get internet to it via the cell phone, and I can't do that if I can't even get hotsync to work.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

I managed to get the hotsync to work eventually.  I had tried the USB port on the right and the one on the left closest to the battery.  Neither worked.  I figured if 2 didn't work, the third wouldn't either, but when I plugged it into the USB port on the left farthest from the battery it suddenly started working.
I have no explanation for this.
Now if only I could figure out the darn Bluetooth...

  • Wind Top AE2020 usb issue

    Hi
I'm using a number of these at work connected to a usb device. The usb device has it's own driver and this works perfectly connected to any port on any of our other computers (different models, brands and OSs). Our problem is that the AE2020s often freeze completely when we connect the usb device.
When they do work I've noticed that it can take several seconds before the computer registers that the device has been plugged in or out (going by the sound at least).
While I'm generally ok with computers this is a bit outside my field. I was thinking about updating the Mobo chipset drivers, but I'd love to hear if anyone is familiar with this problem first. Any help would be greatly appreciated
    The computers in question are:
    MSI Wind Top AE2020
    Intel Pentium Dual Core T4500
    320 GB HDD
    3gb ram
    Win7
    BIOS v. 02.67
Please let me know if I've left out anything and I'll get the info

The AE2020 uses an nVidia ION chip set and not the usual Intel. That was one of the reasons I bought one. However, because it's not the mainstream Intel, Microsoft and MSI do not update the chip set drivers that often. I suggest going to the nVidia web site and downloading their most recent driver for this chip set. You might want to check Device Manager for the exact model name or use the nVidia automated update facility on their web site.
I have had only good experiences with USB devices on my AE2020. These would be standard devices like a wireless keyboard dongle, a BlueTooth mini-card mounted internally, a slide film scanner and an assortment of USB Flash drives and hard drives. It also sounds that this USB device you speak of is not something I might get at Best Buy. Is the driver for that device designed for Windows 7? You've said it works well with other systems. Are any of these running Windows 7?
    Bye.

  • MSI Wind as NAS

I've decided to set up a NAS for my house. Presently it's so I can share key data and have access to that key data from 2 desktops and wirelessly by a laptop. I figure I'll run either WHS, linux or even possibly XP Pro on the NAS.
I have a few basic questions at the moment:
    0. I'm wondering how worth it it would be to get the MSI Wind with the dual core Atom 1.6 GHz processor (N330) over the N230 Atom 1.6 GHz processor. Is it worth the extra ~$32? My own immediate plans are to use it as a file server.
    1. WHS, Linux, XP Pro? I could even run Vista (I have Vista Ultimate, currently not used and could use it... will the MSI Wind run Vista?)
    2. If I decide to run Linux, can I install it without having a DVD drive in the MSI Wind barebones, assuming that's what I get (the MSI Wind machines only support SATA and my DVD drives are all IDE)? I suppose that would mean I would be installing it from a USB flash drive, or even a USB external HD (I have one). Is that possible and not too hard to do or would I need that DVD drive to install Linux?
    3. If I decide to use Linux for the NAS OS, what flavor of Linux would I want to use?
    4. Would there be any difficulties in using Linux as a file server OS from PCs running XP Pro? Could I actually run some of my "Windows" applications right on the NAS, running the executables (residing on the NAS's HD) from the local machines?
    5. One of my main concerns is low power usage. I plan on 24/7 accessibility for the file server. Does the choice of OS impact power usage and how?
    6. Also, if and when I install a 2nd HD (e.g. another WD 1TB Green) in the MSI Wind, would this impact the power consumption? Can the HDs be configured (e.g. in Linux or WHS or XP Pro) to spin down when reasonably idle)?

Quote from: Stu on 10-August-09, 05:14:00
I presume you're referring to the Wind nettop series?
SATA DVD writer drives are very inexpensive nowadays, but you can just as well install your OS from a USB flash drive.
If you want to try Linux, you can run Ubuntu as a server OS, or you could try a dedicated fileserver OS like SME.
I think the nettop has the dual core Atom 1.6 GHz processor. The barebones systems with this cost roughly 25% more than the ones with the non dual core Atom 1.6 GHz processor. One of my questions is "is the extra cost worth it to get the nettop barebones?"
Yes, the SATA DVD writers can be had for ~$25 it appears, but I have no need of one other than to install the NAS OS, so that's why I'm looking for a workaround. FreeNAS, it appears, needs to be installed from CD. I hear that I can install WHS from a USB flash drive, but creating that flash drive is not trivial. The only instructions I've encountered so far require a Vista machine and I don't have a Vista machine. I do have a laptop that supports Vista, and a copy of Vista Ultimate but don't welcome the hassle of "upgrading" my laptop. I have issues enough to deal with right now!

  • Advent 4213 (MSI Wind?) xorg.conf and kdemod

I have a (not quite so) recently purchased advent 4213 netbook (which I hear is just a rebadged msi wind) and have, after a great amount of struggle due to poor circumstance, managed to get Arch and kdemod installed. kdemod starts from rc.conf just fine but my problem is in the xorg.conf. I have no experience editing these and really don't know what a lot of it means so I used hwd -xa to generate one but it will only give me the 800x600 screen resolution as an option. I tried to use the xorg.conf from my Ubuntu install on it, which gave me better resolutions but, alas, the same happens. I've popped my xorg.conf at the bottom of the post. If anyone could help that'd be tremendous.
    Thanks

  • MS-6390: Return Of The USB Problem!

Almost a year ago I posted a thread regarding a USB problem  in which after a few hours runtime, the USB ports stop  working. Having reinstalled Windows, I followed the  original thread to fix the problem again but this time, it  hasn't work. The old thread for reference is; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=49727.0
but I shall try and include everything important here so it  shouldn't be needed.
    Firstly the nature of the problem;
Any new device plugged into them is not recognisied and  Windows advises that it is the device that is  malfunctioning.
Restarting the computer will eliminate the problem, however  upon rebooting, the computer tends to get stuck at what may  be the memory count. If left for 10 minutes, the memory  amount comes up and the computer boots normally. This is  circumvented by temporarily (one second) removing power to  the power supply by pulling the plug or flicking the switch  at the back.
[It may or may not be relevant that the HDD activity  indicator is lit for approximately 30 seconds of this 10  minute period]
Upon switching the computer on again, the computer boots up  normally and the USB ports continue to function for another  variable period of time.
This problem occurs if there are no devices plugged into  the USB, any single device (printer, gamepad, mobile phone)  or any combination.
It should also be noted that if the computer crashes due to  any of many unrelated reasons after this problem has  arisen, and I use the reset button to make it reboot, the  10 minute reboot problem occurs again but appears  differently on screen in that it actually says 'memory  check' or words to that effect with a space where the  normally RAM amount goes, a  '+'  and another empty space  where the memory reserved for onboard graphics normally  goes (i.e. memory check:       +     )
I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling those  downloaded from VIAs website for my chipset.
My USB ports are set not to power down to save power in  device manager.
The multi-card reader (plugged directly into the  motherboard) also stops functioning when the USB ports go  down - power light stays on, activity light stops flashing  (occasionally power light turns off). Unplugging it from  the motherboard does not resolve the issue.
I want to resolve this issue so the computer is trouble-free when I give it my mum to learn from.
Comp. specs in signature. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how to dig deeper...  Soon this computer will only be using a single 80 gig HD, and I'll remove the fan controller (it'll be mums computer). I'll then be able to try just using sp1a.
This PSU I'm using is reviewed here with a several others. (the model number is the same, but the one tested doesn't appear to be dual rail - they actually state the number slightly incorrectly, but it's correct in the picture of the label they show.
I think it performed quite well, being one of only two that were able to keep producing (just) over 1 v at 100% load, whilst most others just plumetted. A significant but probably not damaging drop to 4.87v on the 5v rail and again 3.26 on the 3.3v rail all at 100% load (which you're never supposed to due to the PSU anyway). It got a recommended award since apparently it doesn't have many features but I don't think I'm in need of any features it lacks.
Furthermore - at the back it has a control for fan speed. Currently set on Auto, it maintains the same fan speeds (audiability) as on Low - thus I conclude it has headroom to push itself if necessary (in which case the fans would spin faster).
Apart from someone who said they're "cheapo", I havn't yet found any negative comments regarding Jeantech PSUs.
