MSI Wind U100 xorg.conf

Could someone post their xorg.conf of a working MSI Wind U100?
I have no mousepad (but keyboard and a USB mouse works)
Thanks

I don't have an xorg.conf file and everything's working here.
For the touchpad install xf86-input-synaptics.

  • Advent 4213 (MSI Wind?) xorg.conf and kdemod

I have a (not quite so) recently purchased advent 4213 netbook (which I hear is just a rebadged msi wind) and have, after a great amount of struggle due to poor circumstance, managed to get Arch and kdemod installed. kdemod starts from rc.conf just fine but my problem is in the xorg.conf. I have no experience editing these and really don't know what a lot of it means so I used hwd -xa to generate one but it will only give me the 800x600 screen resolution as an option. I tried to use the xorg.conf from my Ubuntu install on it, which gave me better resolutions but, alas, the same happens. I've popped my xorg.conf at the bottom of the post. If anyone could help that'd be tremendous.
    Thanks

  • Failing to start LXDE (and X) on MSI Wind U100

I am trying to install Arch on a MSI WInd U100, but have troubles getting LXDE to run.
X can start by executing startx. But as soon as i copy the /etc/skel/.xinitrc file to ~/.xinitrc, it fails to start. Even without exec startlxde.
I have installed the xf86-video-intel driver.

  • Recommended Kernel For The MSI Wind U100

    Hi folks,
I am currently running the -ck kernel, the same as I have on my laptop, but I am currently thinking that a more specialised kernel may give me better performance on my MSI Wind U100 netbook. I reckon that the Aspire One kernel may fit the bill because of the similar hardware, but I wanted to hear about anyone's experience with this kernel (or any other) on the Wind. Recommendations welcome!
    Cheers,
    scott

To the nutshell: Seems we understand, great
    Regarding the defaults:
Well most of the kernel options have a little help text associated that *may* give an idea what it's about... But I guess you rather look for a good place to start.
You could either use the config of your running kernel: look inside /proc/config.gz. Or you could start with the one that comes with the AUR. If you already run the -ck kernel now, you unknowingly used the config it provides and the above will be the same of course.
I still recommend kernel26-ice with enabled -bfs patch but I guess -ck will in the end use the same scheduler...? Whatever
So in -ck look for this section:
    # get kernel version
    make prepare
    # load configuration
    # Configure the kernel. Replace the line below with one of your choice.
#make menuconfig # CLI menu for configuration
    #make xconfig # X-based configuration
#make oldconfig # using old config from previous kernel version
    # ... or manually edit .config
    # stop here
    # this is useful to configure the kernel
    #msg "Stopping build"
    #return 1
Activate "load configuration" (hopefully that uses /proc/config.gz automatically) and either "menuconfig" or "xconfig" so you later get a menu/gui to edit that file.
The commented "stop here" part irritates me, though... I would think the msg and return 1 line should be uncommented as well but - not sure at the moment. Try it, you will see if it stops building while you see the config. It should do...
    In -ice-kernel you'd look for
    ### User/Environment defined variables
    bfs_scheduler=${bfs_scheduler:-0}
    enable_fastboot=${enable_fastboot:-0}
    keep_source_code=${keep_source_code:-0}
    menuconfig=${menuconfig:-0}
    realtime_patch=${realtime_patch:-0}
    use_config_gz=${use_config_gz:-0}
    enable_reiser4=${enable_reiser4:-0}
and replace "0" with "1" for bfs_scheduler, menuconfig and use_config_gz and maybe also enable_fastboot.
(optionally look for something like this:
    # configure kernel
    if [ "$menuconfig" = "1" ]; then
make menuconfig ## <-- this one
    fi
    yes "" | make config
and replace the "make menuconfig" with "make xconfig"or whatever. I prefer gconfig)
Save the PKGBUILD and run makepkg
After some downloading, extracting and patching you should finally SEE the menu/gui. Tada.
To make sure you can now load the config file you saved above but it *should* allready be done...
Now look at "General Setup->Local Version". The -ck kernel will most likely say -ck there, standard arch says -ARCH. It may be wise to give your kernel a uniqe name so you don't overwrite your working one... (Remember to add an entry for it in /boot/grub/menu.lst to be able to start it later.) You will need to take care of updates manually then, though.
And at last:  "Processor-type and features" seems to be the most interesting region for you
(For the other options - well there are LOTS of them. Some will also influence performance.... So I guess best advice is take your time and only fiddle with options you understand.)
If you are done save the setting and exit the program. Now "the real work" should start. If you do it on the netbook - you will probably need SOME patience for that too!
When it's done install the kernel with pacman -U </patch/to/directory/where/I/just/build/the/kernel.tar.gz
If you changed menu.lst you can select YOUR kernel on next boot and try if it does what it should.
    Good look
Oh and you may need to (re)install some modules for graphic cards, wifi or whatever for this kernel too...
[Edit: Me needs antiverbose-switch! just wanted to give a *short* answer:) ]

  • MSI WIND U100 - processor voltage at 0.9V

    Hi,
I made a ''desktop'' PC out of my old wind and I'm having trouble with the BIOS overclocking. I'm trying to get the 24% overclock, but the system is always crashing. Max that I can get is 8% overclock. The problem might be the voltage. It runs at 0.9V (800 MHz) or 0.925V (1600 MHz). I've seen some cpu-z screenshots and most of the N270's are running at 1.275V. Can I somehow change the voltage? Or if someone has an N270 could you check YOUR voltage?
    Thanks

you can't change the voltage for this unit
OCing is not guaranteed its based on luck and draws
some units can be OCed more than another, its individual
for the exact case i was able to play at 2 x U100 identical
one can OC to 8% max, other can be OCed to 24% fine
other factors is your RAM, when you apply OC,
memory is also OCed slightly along with the CPU,
which can prevent the higher OCing
do you use build in memory in the unit or
do you also have add-on memory stick installed and using them both?

  • MSI Wind U100 Plus, 24% Request

    Hello Svet
    excuse for my low English.
Can you change include value of DOC 8% <-> 24% ?
Because I use U100+. I can not choose 24% of DOC menu in BIOS.
Does the sum total of BIOS: it in the same?
    Is it difficult?
    Thank you

  • MSI Wind U100 won't boot or POST!

My CPU fan was getting noisy so i decided to take the back off and blow out the dust. Before i put it back together i decided to plug in the battery and turn it on with the back cover off to make sure i fixed the noisy fan. That's when it happened. The blue star lights up and that's it. Blank screen, no POST, nothing! Hmm, i thought maybe there was a case sensor or something so i pulled the battery, put the cover back on and still nothing. Oh yeah, the CPU Fan spins for 2 seconds, much quieter now.
I have also tried... removing the battery and power cord and let sit 10 minutes, power by cord with battery removed, removing little BIOS motherboard battery, removing HDD, re-seating all connectors from LCD screen, and the usual cursing.
Somebody please tell me how to fix this thing.

I have the exact same issue...only one blue light and power cycles when you try to stop it.  System will not post.
New board, CPU, and RAM.  video card from a working system.
Already tried reseating CPU and fan...already tried moving ram to second (black) slot.

  • MSI Wind U100 question - Newby

    Hi
I just purchased a new U100 with the Intel 270.   The BIOS is the ENO11IMS Ver.10D.   In the BIOS I can change the the overclocking to 8/15/24%.   After booting XP I toggle F10,  The turbo icon shows on screen.  But I  cannot tell if it is OCing.   I downloaded CPUz but it shows Specification as 1.6Ghz and core speed as approximately 926mhz.    The power on button changes from blue to orange, but other than that i have no idea if it is OCing.
Another question.   The machine was getting really hot.  I downloaded speedfan and the temps Temp1/Core 0/Core 1 were all in the 70's (Celsius) and I think Temp 1 broke 80 some.   I engaged the auto fan speed in Speedfan and after a while the fan came on and the temps fell rapidly right before my eyes and settled in the 30's and the computer went from hot to luke warm.   But it seems it took a 3rd party software to get the fan to work at all.
Can anyone give me some insight into these.
    Thanks

Yes, you're overclocking. The CPU only runs at full speed when its under full load (to save power). Normally when idle, the CPU speed drops to 800mhz, so the fact that yours is idling at 926mhz means the OC is active. Put the CPU under heavy load, using something like SuperPi or Prime95, and you'll see the CPU speed will exceed 1600mhz.

    You need to install SCM:
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/U100.html#/?div=Utility&os=All
also combination is: [real keys on keyboard, not modified]
LCtl + LShift + Fn [release], ==> LCtrl + Fn [release] and again[if you want a different one P.Led] ==> LCtl + LShift + Fn [release]

    Hi t.
I'll suppose that the chipset Intel UMA works like the GMA (i'm not an expert about it)
I would try changing the graphics driver.
    First of all, install it:
    pacman -S xf86-video-intel
Then, you can make a good xorg.conf file with:
    Xorg -configure
It should automatically select the right driver (if it is installed).
You will have to move it to the /etc/X11 folder:
    mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Please, notice that the new Kernel requires to enable KMS for the Intel chipset to work fine. Take a look at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel
    I hope this will help.
    Bye!

  • No xorg.conf and x3100 slow performance

I recently installed Arch Linux on my laptop and almost everything is working fine.  Some time ago,  I used to use a tool that detects my hardware and generates a xorg.conf, but this time, I installed Arch and X is running fine without xorg.conf.
However, I have a problem with 3D Aceleration. My 3D card is Intel x3100 (GM965). (I installed xf86-video-intel driver) 3D aceleration is very slow. Ive run glxinfo and it shows only NONE and SLOW flags. Some simple opengl games like supertux run very very slow.
Ive tried to copy and paste a xorg file from a x3100 user, but X didnt work at all. What can I do to enable 3D aceleration. Thanks in advance
EDIT: I was really happy I didnt have to write a xorg.conf file. Will I have to?

  • [SOLVED] xorg.conf with 'hwd -xa' on sony viao not working

    Hello,
    I have a Sony viao VGN-T150P running Arch linux and I can't get my x.org working .
here are some of information I get:
    lspci says
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 02)

    so then I installed xf86-video-intel,
using that driver with a blank xorg.conf , I get 3 terminal windows and xclock,  but my mouse and keyboard don't seem to do anything
    here are those errors:

I download xf86-video-fbdev just for fun before I saw your post, I didn't do anything as far as I could see.
    I commented these lines out:
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1"
    Load "record"
    Load "type1"
B, I didn't install any fonts but now I installed a buch of random fonts:
    pacman -S ttf-ms-fonts ttf-cheapskate artwiz-fonts xorg-fonts-75dpi xorg-fonts-100dpi
and did some of what the X.org configuration wiki said:
    fc-cache -fv
    /usr/bin/fc-cache
    /usr/bin/mkfontscale
    /usr/bin/mkfontdir
    ln -s /usr/share/fonts/encodings/encodings.dir encodings.dir
    Then this I changed this:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Card0"
    Driver "intel"
    VendorName "All"
    BoardName "All"
    EndSection
EDIT, halfway through this post I realized I type in biagio's code wrong, I re-typed it and now my X works!
Thanks Everybody for the help! , here's the working xorg.conf for reference:
