MSI WindTop 2400 hard drive removal

Hi
I need a help to open the MSI  WindTop 2400 All in One  case so that I can replace the hard drive. I couldn't find any guide anywhere on assembling/ disassembling this product.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Marin

I want to run 2x 120 + 1x 4 for the operating system.
And what if I can't even do 2x 120, what if it's just a matter of not being able to combined any two disks.  Other than expirimenting and doing all the instalation work (which I will do tomorrow, methinks) the question is, is there a way to make the current configuration work?
(sorry, don't mean to gun down your idea, it's just kind of my last ditch effort.)

  • Will formatting my hard drive remove my bootcamp partition? Also, downgrading...?

    Hi!
I have 2 partitions, one for Mavericks and one for Windows 8. I would like to do a clean install of Mavericks. I have already redownloaded Mavericks and I'm about to put it on a USB so I can boot from it and reinstall the operating system. I read somewhere that to format your hard drive and do a clean install, you have to boot into the USB and then you'll have an option to format your hard drive from there. I'm not sure if that's correct so that's another thing I would like to inquire about.
Another thing I would like to know about, although not relevant to my previous questions, is this: Is it possible to get a free download of Mountain Lion (legally, of course)? I would much rather do a clean install of Mountain Lion than Mavericks, but I've searched google and there seems to be no way to get it for free. However, I did read that it's possible to get it free within 30 days of purchasing your Mac but that 30 days have long passed for me.
So my 3 questions are the following:
    1) Will formatting my hard drive remove my already existing bootcamp partition? (If it does, I don't mind but I would still like to know)
    2) How exactly do I format my hard drive?
    3) Is it possible to get Mountain Lion for free so I can downgrade?
    Thanks to anyone who helps!

Formatting a HDD will delete all user data on the drive.  Yes you can do it on an older MBP by connecting to it via USB, but do you really want to?  If the repair shop says the HDD is functional, there is no need to wipe it and reinstall the OSX.  The problem then is something else.
It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have.
    Ciao.

  • MSI P67A-GD65 hard drive light always lit

I built a new pc with this motherboard a few weeks ago and everything is great except for the hard drive light.  It stays dim 100% of the time and does show hard drive activity so i know it's working.  I switched the connector on the motherboard to see if it was a polarity issue, but then it doesn't work at all.  I even used a different LED that wasn't connected to my case and removed all the other connectors (power, reset, etc) and it still stayed dim.  Lastly, i removed all the SATA cables from the motherboard, all fan connectors with no luck.  I would appreciate any information on this, and if it's normal or if something is wrong and i should RMA the board.
PS - Bios version is 1.9.  I never updated it cause everything has been working as it should.

Quote from: NovJoe on 30-May-11, 15:38:56
You should try the board out of the chassis. You may also want to try it in barebone conditions.
I tried that yesterday.  Took it completely out of the case and left everything else off the board except for the ram and it still does it.  Also used a separate LED to test that wasn't part of the case.  In all the years i've worked on pc's, i've never seen this before.  I guess at this point i'll have to live with it or buy another one and send this one back for RMA.  I contacted MSI and they replied back with a suggestion to update the bios.  This is going nowhere.  While it probably won't actually hurt anything, i didn't spend $1500 on a new system to have problems with the motherboard.
Can someone help me test by using their MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) board?  Disconnect JUST your power light from the motherboard to make sure no other light is interfering with the hard drive light, and see if it's still dimly lit at around 25% to 30% regardless if you're in the bios, or in windows.
Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point.

  • Hard drive removed from old, dead mac. I need your help!

So the logic board failed on my 2006 15" MacBook pro. Apple were charging £500 to replace the board, so I've decided to get myself a new MacBook. At the Genius Bar, while we were discussing how I could go out fixing the laptop, the genius was kind enough to remove my hard drive for me. He explained that there are simple USB cables you can buy that literally connect to the loose hard drive one end, and pop into the USB of the new mac the other. My first request is can anyone link me to a cable to buy (preferably uk). Every time I search I get external USB hard drives. The second piece of help I need is how I go about restoring some old files. I want everything as clean as possible; no migration type processes, just drag and drop. Once this is done, I have some worries about connecting my iPhone and getting things to carry on as normal (without losing apps and photos).
    I appreciate any feedback.

The driive enclosure required will be the SATA enclosure. (The IDE would be for a much older machine.) The best policy would be to take the extracted drive with you if you are shopping in person; that way the tech help on site can identify exactly the model needed. Just one word before opting for a FireWire enclosure: the newer Macs have FireWire 800 only, no longer FireWire 400 ; your old 15" had both ports but the new Mac will have only 800. That means you might need an adaptor cable 400 to 800 if the enclosure is 400. There will be no similar complication if it is  USB only. The advantage of FireWire is speed and Mac compatibility.
Once you have this bit of kit, then you are ready to tackle the main task of Migration or simply copying to the new Mac.

  • My hard drive removed from a laptop  no photograph files left can I recover them?

Please HELP with advice someone if you can. I had a white unibody laptop which was snow leopard but upgraded to Lion. A couple months ago my daughter splashed a small amount of water on it whilst it was unplugged when I was working on it. No apparent damage but the battery was low. Later after I forgot about the water splash I (stupidly) unknowinlgly plugged into a power source but it must have 'blew' as it never started up. I may have tried a few times after trying to power up, including holding down power key for a good while but nothing dead.. kaput.
A few weeks ago I got myself a new laptop, with mavericks on it. But I really needed my data off old laptop, so I took it to a simply fix it  store who do apple repairs, and they took out the hard drive and put it in a case that could be plugged into my new laptop. I got it home and tried it, but it would not open iphoto obviously because, different system/update issue ect. SoI searched to see if i could find the photo files maually but ll I could find were a few files from my documents. Everything that was on the desk top, music and photo files were missing!. I took it back to simply fix it and they said that they searched everywhere and tried booting it up on an older sytem but they could not find any of the files that were missing.
I am gutted, as all my personal photos of which I never backed up are gone. I really need /want some of these pictures back . Does anyone know what may have happened? The guys at simply fix it said , all they done was removed the hard drive, and encase it. They never moved files or anything. Is it possible they may have been damaged with the water and plug into electric? Or could it have been me trying to start it up after water damage and I ruined part of hard drive.
The rest of my applications and documents are all ok, its weird just music , desk top, and photo files gone.
Is it worthpaying for a data recovery which simply fix it will charge me £100?
Any advice much appreciated. Sorry I cant tell you what sytem my old mac was as I dont have the hard drive with me to find out it was bought in Jan 2011 new white unibody snow leopard.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Again, Well I found Carbon Copy Clone on my old hard drive so I didn't even need to download it. I just dragged it onto my desktop and I did as you said.  Using CCC and within the folder of users which has my folder of old hard drive there now shows a file called.autodiskmounted (whatever that means) and then it has a version of my hard drive below that called hard drive 1, which has nothing, but above both of these folders, there is a folder with an old user name which shows up empty on the hard drive when I search it, but actually shows lots of folders on the CCC. So without getting too excited, it lists some folders and amongst them are folders I cant see normally in the old hard drive, like my safari settings and favourites, and movies music and pictures. However in the movies pictures and music folders I can only see a  blackish square that looks a bit like a blank screen with the text.localised after it .
Does this mean anything to you / Is there  apossibility they may be there? When I selected my new laptop as the destination i got this message below so I did not proceed any further as I'm not sure it will back up the files I need..
To avoid system instability, CCC has applied a filter that will exclude system files from the backup task.
If you would like to restore your Mac OS X system files, restart your computer from the backup volume and try the backup task again.
If you are trying to restore a single item or folder, click the "?" button for additional suggestions.
Is it worth giving it a try? Thanks for this btw, its further than I've got before!!

  • Macbook Pro Hard drive, removed, how to recover data with PC

My MacBook was damaged.  2011 Late Model.  I removed the hard drive and placed it in a sabrent enclosure.  Plugged in to a PC and learned that i cannot get the data from it.  Any help?  Thank you.

If you have a friend with Mac, you could copy the data to another USB disk formatted as FAT32. You can then read it on your PC. The problem with this is that FAT32 requires all files to be smaller than 4GB and there are restrictions on the file names. This might be OK depending on whether you have any big files.
Another possibility would be to plug the Mac disk into a friend's Mac and then FTP (e.g. using "sftp") to the Mac from your PC. This way you can retrieve the files without the need for another disk.

  • How do I get my hard drive removed?

My macbook air suffered liquid damage and will no longer turn on. I took it to the Apple store in Chandler, AZ and they were unable to work on it. I bought a new Mac and want to sell the old one for parts on EBAY but I need to know if it has a hard drive I should have removed before I sell it.  The Apple store said there was nothing they could do to retrieve my data without me sending it in and paying a lot of money. Any advice on what I can do?

You seem to be asking two separate questions:
    1.  Does my MacBook Air have a hard drive?  (Or does it have a solid state drive?)
    2.  Does my MacBook Air's storage facility still contain sensitive data?  If so, how can I remove it?
I started to continue this with a long answer, but instead, here is the point.
I suggest forgetting about selling the old one for parts on eBay.  Doing so would be like preparing a car for sale that had been totaled and reclaimed from salvage.  Your expense (time and money) is very likely to far exceed your gain.
There is basically no parts market for a MacBook Air.

  • Manually copy ipod files to hard drive/removable storage

I am having issues with my ipod (I posted another topic about this) and cannot see any of my songs or videos on my ipod. I also cannot get computers other than the one I was using when the problem started to recognize my ipod. I normally work with PCs however I was using my ipod on a mac when the problem started. I know that the folder on the ipod where all your music is stored is hidden, and know how to access hidden files on a pc. Since I can only access my ipod from one specific mac I want to copy all my music over to either a hard drive or some kind of removable storage so I can restore the ipod and then copy the music back on to it.
How do you view/access hidden files on macs? Or is there any other way to copy the ipod files off of it and onto another storage device? The computer being used has Mac OS X on it, not sure what version.

You'll find details (including unhiding files) of the manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • Equium L40 hard drive removal

    Hi,
I am new to this Forum and would like to say hello. From time to time I work on Toshiba laptops, so I guess this is the best place to come for good advice.
At the moment, I am working on a Toshiba Equium L40 laptop. I need to remove the hard drive, but cannot find a service manual for this model on the Toshiba website. I have spoken to Toshiba by phone and they will not provide service manuals to non-Toshiba authorised shops. Has anyone worked on this model and if so, perhaps they could kindly offer some advice on removing the hard drive.
    Many thanks, Mark

this is very easy operations. I show you in five steps :

  • HARD DRIVE REMOVAL

I want to remove the hard drive of my imac (700Mhz power pc G3 before disposal. Help Please

Is it a desktop G3, known as the Beige, or a G3 all-in-one (includes a fixed monitor), or a G3 minitower?
If it is the beige, then removing the hard drive is not a difficult job. Have you actually tried removing the case's top cover? Press upward and hold the two plastic button lugs directly beneath the CD and floppy drive bays. and with your thumbs on top of the casing, pull smartly toward you. The top section should slide off the base, exposing all the working parts inside.
Then lift the hinged section inside and prop it with the plastic leg. Now you can get at the hard drive. Unplug all its connections first, taking care with the very tight Molex connector, and then remove the screws holding the drive carrier (a plastic frame on to which the hard drive casing screws).

  • G5 Dual 2.0 Hard Drive removal issues (Top slot)

I must have an older G5 Powermac cuz the top hard drive is higher than the edge of the case, making it impossible to remove without some serious case deconstruction. the side screws on the sides that allow it to slide into the bay are keeping it from dropping down and sliding out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the top hard drive? Any online docs? I have searched and found nothing so far.

    Hi miles loretta;
Now, now. Don't be so hard on yourself. This is how we learn.
I have to admit that when the drive in my PM Quad when bad it took me longer to get the drive then I care to talk about. Now we both know how to do it.

  • IMac G5 (pre-iSight) Hard Drive Removal: ATA and SATA advice please!

I need to purchase a hard drive enclosure for the hard drive of my old 1st gen iMac. According to this article: http://www.welovemacs.com/ihaimg5whtyo.html - my iMac has an ATA drive, and is the only with that type. So my question is, before buying an enclosure, does it have to be specified for ATA hard drives only? I read some positive reviews about the miniStack v3 (http://www.newertech.com/products/ministackv3.php) and was considering it a good investment, but now I'm not sure if my stone age hard drive will actually run on it. I poked around their web site, but its a bit cluttered and couldn't find an answer, so I figured I'd turn to you guys; the experts!
Thanks for any help in advance! You guys are great!

Thanks for the speedy response. I'm looking through the website right now. But basically pretty much any recent enclosure holds both ATA and SATA hard drives? I got a little more information on my hard drive to clarify: Barracuda 7200.7 with 80GB. With that said, I'm probably just going to go ahead and order an enclosure and not worry too much about compatibility; however, I would feel better if someone could tell me if the miniStack v3 (link is above in the original post, says it can hold a max of 1 terabyte) is a definite "yes or no" given what I'm dealing with (and if anyone has had any personal experience with that enclosure, I would be glad to hear any general comments about it as well!) Thanks again

  • 1. Can I use Time Capsule as an external hard drive, remove wifi feature?

    Hi there -
My Time Capsule contains my iPhoto library, and I had used it in the past as my wifi router, backup AND external hard drive for the iPhoto library. Now I must use AT&T's wireless router, and would still like to use the TC for the backup and iPhoto library storage.  Is there a way to do that?
Also, the Apple deviced prefer to connect to Time Capsule (which is no longer connected to the internet) as their first choice for the wifi internet connection. Is there a way to change that preference?
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Only one setting needs to be checked to make sure that the Time Capsule will connect to your ATT router correctly.
To do that, you need to use AirPort Utility, but we do not know what version that you might have. Please open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu, and then click About AirPort Utility and post back with the version number that you see there.
My Time Capsule contains my iPhoto library, and I had used it in the past as my wifi router, backup AND external hard drive for the iPhoto library.
Sorry, maybe I do not understand this. If you have your "main" iPhoto library on the Time Capsule, you cannot also have the backup of the iPhoto library on the same Time Capsule.  What would happen when.....not if.....the Time Capsule fails?
For the record, the experts in the iPhoto support area strongly recommend that you do not locate your main iPhoto library on the Time Capsule.....but that is probably another discussion and post in the iPhoto support community.
Also, the Apple deviced prefer to connect to Time Capsule (which is no longer connected to the internet) as their first choice for the wifi internet connection. Is there a way to change that preference?
The Time Capsule will be connected to the Internet when it is configured correctly to connect your ATT router, so your devices can continue to use the Time Capsule wireless if you want.
Or, are you saying that you want to turn off the wireless function on the Time Capsule and use the ATT wireless?
The Time Capsule will run circles around the ATT router as far as wireless performance, but you may have your reasons for wanting to use the ATT wireless.
Please clarify on what it is that want to do.
