MSI X79A-GD65 8D not showing drives (hdd & optical) in windows

Hi,
For some reason my drives are not showing in windows or in device manager or anywhere. The show in bios. I'm not sure if it is a windows issue. I have a new build and the drives all showed for the first few days then after some updates they have gone.
Do I need to update the bios? I have not updated it but I only bought the motherboard about 20 days ago.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi,
I'm sorry. I don't know what you mean about installing the drivers as media drivers.
Quote from: xmad on 25-March-13, 00:21:21
Did you check in the disk manager? Can you see the HDD's etc there?
To which ports do you have them installed?
Have you installed teh ahci drivers and as media drivers?

I can't install the Intel LAN Drivers for my MSi X79A GD65 [8D] Mainboard...
I have Windows 8 installed and whenever I try to install the LAN Driver, the system freezes and I need to switch off and back on...
I have tried everything or everything I can think of to get around this issue but no success :(
I have tried on a clean install of Windows 8 and tried various different versions and still the problem occurs.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and anyone know if a fix or something I could try?
    Many thanks in advance

My Driver problem, along with Memory issues, clock and animations running double speed and Memory_Management errors BSOD have all been resolved since rolling back my firmware update. I also got all my ram replaced by Kingston so they all had the same revisions and this corrected the issue where 4 sticks were registering as different/slower ram.
Not even the MSi LAN Driver worked prior to these changes...

    Samsung SSD 830-Series 128Gb
    Intel Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz
    2x Nvidia 130GT
    Frio Advanced CPU Cooler
    Corsair TX 850w PSU
    Fractal Design Define R3 casing
I just bought it. Everything new (except the nvidia cards). I installed everything in the right slot according to the User Guide. I turn the computer on and their is no output, no signal to the screen, no beeps, no LED Post.
I've disassebled the computer and reassembled it again with different configurations, 1 stick of RAM with the PSU, processor, and video card. changed videocard. tested the video cards on my old computer and they worked.
Everything runs as they should; all fans spinn, even the graphics card fan, the LED lights "DRR PHASE" and "CPU I/O PHASE" are blue (can't see the CPU PHASE one because its covered by some Military Class thingy).. the only LED not showing is the HDD one, but since it doesnt even boot its not active. No warning LEDs or so...
I figure its the PSU, but 850W should work fine...
    anyone with a clue?

thanks for the help. There was no problem at all with the PSU after all, there seems to have been an incompabillity issue between x79a-gd65(8D) and Corsair TX850. I called the place where I bought my Corsair and asked I they ever tested it against my modell of MB, and they did not. I realized this endevour would continue untill end of mankind, and beeing so certain that it was an incomplabillity issue, I bought a Cooler Master PSU from another reseller...and it worked.
I don't know if anyone else has had this kind of problem before, but this was the solution for me.
Thanks again for all the help!
No problems with X79A-GD65(8D) here using a Corsair HX850, but, I did have trouble with a BB X II. Tried both a Corsair AX1200 and HX850. If the replacement mainboard acts the same, I have a Thermaltake here I can test with to rule out a compatibility theory. I can only guess the Corsair PSU you had had some odd intermittent function behavior & was faulty. I know the AX1200 & HX850 work, as I had them on other systems running with no problems.

  • MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) - pci gpu placment

    Hi
    I have MSI X79A-GD65 (8D).
Is it possible to put gpu on second or third pci slot but when first slot is empty?
My cpu cooling is Noctua NH-D14 SE2011, it is quite big , and when I put gpu on first slot it is very close to cooler.
So Im thinking about putting gpu on second or third slot to make air flow better.

Always amazes me when I see the oddball configurations that show up. The primary graphics slot is PCI_E1 3.0. If you used a CPU cooler such as a Zalman CNPS9900Max-B or Max-R you wouldn't have these ersatz component installation problems. Yes, you should be able to use the new graphics card in PCI_E4 3.0 without a problem. As for the GTX 260, presume that is going to be used as a PhysX card? Try it in any PCI_E 2.0 slot it will fit in and see if it will work. Even the PCI_E6 3.0 should work with it.
Its not a problem beacause it fits on 1 slot too, Im just wondering about putting it on other slot. Zalman CNPS9900Max-B is good but not as good as NH-D14 SE2011. NH-D14 SE2011 is much noiseless, with only one fan on it and with L.N.A its under 12 DB. I think that air flow is better too. But it doesnt metter, Zalman CNPS9900Max-B wasnt even avaliable for me.
So u say i shlould use 2 cards? 260 GTX is my old card i didnt plan to use them both. How should I configure them under windows 8.1?

If you are going to fill all 8 slots, you are better off getting an 8 stick matched and tested kit. Reason, mixing kits even though the same part number may have different chips on them and not be compatible with each other. That particular RAM manufacturer even has some disclaimers about that with some kits.
    That's right.
    http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=427
    3. G.SKILL guarantees module compatibility within this specific Quad Channel kit. Combining with other memory kit or module (even with same part number) is not recommended to avoid any compatibility issue.
In fact, 8 memory modules is not a good idea at all.
There will be a huge bandwidth demand and you'll need to raise the voltages and/or to slow them down.
Otherwise you'll get into stability issues.

  • MSI X79A-GD65- quad sli ?

    Hi All ,
Im looking at buying a MSI X79A-GD65 and im wondering if the board will support quad sli ie 2x gtx590's ?

    2 x 590GTX cards is not quad sli, but two-way SLI (2 x GPUx2).
    Yes, it is supported.
Even though the VGA test report list for the mainboard does not mention this configuration (it probably wasn't tested), it mentions 2 x 295GTX cards which also have a dual GPU.
Thats great thanks for the quick response although http://uk.geforce.com/optimise/guides/how-to-build-a-quad-sli-system  according to that guide 2x gtx590 is quad sli hence why i asked .
    Anyway thanks again

  • MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) Boot error B2

I bought my ssystem last week. All hardware came in and I build it up.
This is the hardware I have:
    Mainboard: MSI X79A-GD65 (8D)
    CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K/3.2GHz 12MB LGA2011 Hexa-core
    Case: Corsair CASE Graphite 600T
Power supply: Thermaltake SMART 650W/ 80plus
    Cooler: Thermaltake Contac 39
SSD: Intel SSD 520 series 240GB
    HDD: Seagate HI 3.5" 2TB Barracuda 7200RPM
    Graphics: MSI N660Ti PE 2GD5/OC GTX660Ti
    Memory: CORSAIR DDR3 1600MHz 16GB Kit 2x8GB Domi DDR3 - 240 pin - 1,5V - CL9 - 2x 8 GB Kit
DVD: DVD RW AD-5280 24x DL SATA Black Bulk 24x/24x - Serial ATA
    The problem:
Everything looks fine all fans are spinning when I power on the computer. Keyboard lights up. I can even press del to enter setup.
I never get into setup though. It just displays error code B2 in the bottom right corner and a blinking cursor in the top left corner.
So always error B2. I see this error to on the LED's in the mainboard.
    What I have tried:
    - Boot the system with one memory module in Dimm socket 1
    - Boot the system with on memory module in Dimm socket 3
    - Place the graphic cards in another PCI-E socket
    - Double checked the connector of the power on the graphic card, the mainboard, near the cpu and the graphic card power on the mainboard.
    - Boot the system without any devices, just cpu, memory and graphic card.
    - Reset the CMOS with the button on the back of the mainboard.
Can somebody help me solve my problem? I have no idea what to do anymore?
Oh: 1 thing just came to mind, I have connected all my system fans to my case instead of on my mainboard. I can manage the speed that way, can it have something to do that there is no Sysfan1 connected to the mainboard? (A bit far searched I guess).
    Help would be much apreciated.

I just wanted to let the readers know that I found the problem.
I have tried to screw out my old Videocard and placed that in my new system. It booted without any problems.
The MSI Geforce GTX 660 Ti videocard caused my problem. I have read some things about this card to on the internet.
They tend to use to much power in this videocard so it can cause POST problems.
Here is some more info about it: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/MSI-GTX-660-670-overvolting-PowerEdition,18013.html
I hope this info helps other people to.

  • MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) dE?

I'm getting dE on my MSI motherboard Post/Debug Code Display, what causing it? i took my motherboard/CPU yesterday to the retailer as i thought it was fried by my PSU failing but it boot to the bios
    CPU:Intel CORE i7 3930K
    MOBO:MSI X79A-GD65 (8D)
    PSU:Silverstone Strider Plus 850W ST85F-P
    GPU: gigabyte 6850
    RAM:G.Skill Ripjaws Z F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL (4x4GB) DDR3
SOUND CARD:Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium PCIe Fatal1ty Pro
when i came back to home i install the motherboard in my case and it gave my first dE and also it restarts at random at start up before i got the dE
when i place my motherhood on my desk and it boot to the bios with all my ram stick installed
then i place it back to case it still gave me the  dE and how when i put on the desk it gave me dE

I don't know, but I assume this, as you say it works fine outside the case.
When you insert it in the case you are getting the error. Nothing changes, except the mounting of the board. If that is the only change, then it can only be a short.
Only thing you didn't mention if this happens even without connecting the case wiring ?
Mount the board in the case with the designated stand-offs only. Then do not connect any case wiring. Start the PC by shorting the ON/OFF switch pins on the board jumper. Check if it starts. After that, connect the case wiring and test again. That way you will find out if its a short between the board and the case, or if you have a short on the case wiring.

  • Msi x79a-gd65 8d BSOD and Ram issue, Code 67

    Hi,
    Specs as follows:
    Mobo: msi x79a-gd65 8d (Bios: latest 4.4)
    CPU: 3960x
    RAM: 2x8GB Corsair dominator platinum 1866MHZ (CMD16GX3M2A1866C10)
    PSU: CM 1000watt
GPU: EVGA GTX 680 Classified 4GB
Mobo came back from MSI and they said there were bend pins, they fixed the bent pins. However the mobo still BSODs on stock settings and does not want to boot with 2x8Gb. It only boots with 1 stick.
I also get the code 67.
The mobo is only stable when I enable OC genie and run 1 ram module
    Please help, thanks in advance!

    >>Clear CMOS<< and retry. If no help try the second stick in any mem slot and see if it boots in any while other stick is installed too. If not try each stick individually to check if both are working.

  • MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) -- system reboots after 2 minutes ...

    MSI X79A-GD65 (8D)
    Intel® Core™ i7-3930K

    Noctua NH-D14 SE2011
    PNY Quadro 4000
    Power supply CMPSU-750AX
    BIOS Version: E7760IMS 1.7
    Hi guys,
I'm in trouble! I have just assembled my new system with the components listed above. When I plug in the power supply I'm able to start the it. It runs for 1 to 2 minutes and I can call up the BIOS for instance. Everything seems to be fine. But then it crashes and tries to restart and get stuck on the POST code "dE" (I know, such a POST code doesn't exists...) When I turn it off, I'm not able to start again until I unplug the power supply for 10 minutes.
I have tried to start it with only one DDR3-RAM in DIMM one. I have already cleared the CMOS a couple of times with a jumper. I have removed the CMOS battery for a while, I have tried all 4 RAM's in DIMM 1....
It would be great if someone has an idea what's going on here. I go insane
    Thanks,
    Selwy

dammit! It's the PSU!! How is that possible!?
I have installed a old 550W Enermax PSU and it worked with all the new components - msi board, PNY Quadro, i73930k...
What I really don't understand is, why did the PSU worked with my old VGA this afternoon? It had a 6-pin connector too.
What do you guys think I should do now? Send to PSU back to Corsair and ask for a new one - same version? Or would it be better to get one from another brand? Or is there something I can test or adjust on the PSU before I send it back? Or is it even "broken enough" to send it back? I mean, it works - a little bit
Once again, thank you very much to all of you for your help!!

  • I would like to use time Machine to back up to a network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it

I currently have a mini server (OSX10.8.5, server 2.2.2) that I am using Time Machine to back up 4 external drives that are connected to the server via firewire 800. I would like to use Time Machine to back up to a windows network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it for use.
    Can this be done
Thanks for any and all help

The supported targets for Time Machine backups are local (direct-connected) disks, and network targets include Time Capsule, a disk hanging off the current-generation AirPort (though not earlier AirPort devices), and OS X Server systems.
The Time Machine storage is based on the HFS+ file system, so I would not expect TM to work with SMB file services.
While there are hacks to allow Time Machine to access network drives, I would not consider those to be reliable. Skim the forum and the 'net for related details, and for previous discussions of setting this up and the related issues that can arise.
Remember to test the recovery with whatever you decide to use; whole point of backups is the ability to restore the data, after all.
If you want to learn more about Time Machine, Pondini is an excellent resource.

i have purchase iphone4 from gray market,it is not factory unlock, how can i get it factory unlock,
its safari not working and it is not showing drive in my computer.

iPhones are sold in carrier-locked and unlocked versions. If the phone has a carrier lock on it, you must contact the carrier to have it removed (you probably need to bring the phone to the carrier for the process). If you don't know the carrier, you won't be able to get it unlocked. US carriers will not remove the carrier lock and it cannot be removed.
How is Safari behaving that makes you say that Safari is not working? The lock status of the phone won't affect Safari, except that if the phone is locked and you aren't using the carrier (and SIM provided by the carrier) to which it is locked, then you can't use the phone or 3G service, only Wi-Fi.
The iPhone should not appear as a drive on your computer, so there's no error there.
