Msi z77 GD55 POST problem

I thought everything was fine this time. It has been for a month.... Now my pc loops rebooting before BIOS. I have clicked the clear cmos on back. I have disconnected everything except cpu and RAM and nothing is getting to Bios. It is the original bios. Not updated as it worked before... Im so distraught after it was ok... Any ideas please help. Im typing via my phone.

What did you do when the Bam! happened?
I5-3570k you mean? If so, that would require v13 to work properly 2012-04-13, but if it worked for 2 months that would be very odd. To verify, you could try and i5 2500k or so: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z77A-GD55.html#/?div=CPUSupport but I doubt that is the case.
Next good idea would probably to build the computer on a non-conductive surface (IE brown cardboard)
When you take it out, remove the cpu and inspect the pins very carefully with a bright light and zoom from an hd camera or magnifying glass, if its ok re-seat the cpu and install the cooler, 1 stick ram and psu.
Re-test
If it fails, even though the psu was tested, try a different one. Still fails? Try a different stick of ddr3.. After that it's either the cpu or mobo, my bet would be on the mobo, but to be sure if you can test the cpu in another computer.
Ps: When I say try, I mean borrow, perhaps have a friend with a similar set up bring his computer over to help in testing.
The BAM was turning on my PC in the morning...
Yes I meant the i5, sorry. The motherboard had whatever BIOS it already had when I started it, would not having updated it killed my CPU?
Yes I will try and put it on the some card on the wooden table in my living room.
It has worked without problem and all parts other than the graphics card are brand new.

  • MSI Z77 GD55 Slow BootingUp when plugged a Cardreader PROBLEM!!!!!!

I have Msi Z77 Gd55 mainboard. I like this mainboard but I have a little problem. If my card reader is connected via usb and also slots are empty, the first booting black screen is waiting for 10-15seconds. If not plugged it counts the codes in 2seconds and starts loading windows rapidly. It  waits at B4 debug code for 10-15 secs and then comes A2 and starts normally my windows.
I have tested other brand Card readers also with internal and external models but the problem  is the same. I dont have this problem with my other mobos only having at Z77 GD55.
I have disabled the card reader at the bios Booting/usb but didnt solve the problem exactly.
A bios update may solve this problem................

Try the latest Beta, make sure to use the forum flash tool so that the ME extension of bios is flashed as well.

  • MSI Z77-G45 RAM Problems

    Hello,
I just built my first PC. I'm running an i7 3770K with the MSI Z77-G45 off an HEC 850w PSU. I'm using RAM I got from a friend, it's G.SKILL PI Series. Right now I have 3 2GB sticks installed, but I'm getting another to max out at 8GB's later this week.
I'm running into a really strange problem. Twice now, when I go to turn on my PC, it goes into an infinite boot cycle, with the computer staying on for only 2 seconds. The only way to fix it is to remove one of the RAM sticks. After I do that the PC boots fine. I can then reinsert the RAM and it recognizes 6GB total. But in the MSI Control Center, it's recognizing the RAM sticks in the wrong DIMM slots. I'm only using DIMM slots 1-3 (The first 3 closest to the CPU). But in the MSI Control Center, it says that I'm using slots 1, 3, and 4. I haven't overclocked the RAM at all. I'm pretty perplexed as to what is happening. Also, when the computer does boot, I don't hear any beeps. Not sure what that means. Help?
    Thanks!

3 stick of ram is never a good idea. Best to run with 2. One installed into DIMM 2 & one in DIMM 4.
When you get the 4th stick, I would recommended trying to RMA them for a matched set. Often times even memory of the same model bought at different time is different enough to cause problems.
The 2nd from the CPU and the last from the CPU are the primary DIMMS. (DIMM 1 & DIMM2)

  • MSI 770-C45 POST problems

    Hi,
I've had the C-45 for some time now, but have ignored this problem.
The problem is, that upon booting, the board doesn't immediately boot.
Instead, it sends me to a screen showing my hardware and gives me an option to enter the bios. If I enter and exit the BIOS, it will repeat this several times, then post.(about 2-15 times)
On rare occasions, it will post from the first power on, but then different glitches occur, ranging from graphics drivers not working properly to random bsods.
    Some specs:
Phenom II x4 945 stock speed
    C45-770 BIOS Version 1.1
    PNY Optima, 2 x 2GB,  DDR3 1333
    Radeon HD 4850 512MB
    OCZ  ModXStream Pro 500W
    Windows 7 64 bit
Sorry if this is a common problem, I searched and didn't find anything.
    Thanks for your time,
    Qwerty7

Yes....when you see the post....PRESS NOTHING!!
And wait for 15 minutes and observe what happens.
If it is the harddisk, then it will show an error OR show something else.
Do NOT TOUCH A KEY for 15 minutes.
    I know it's long...but it's important to know what's going on.
Nothing, just keeps showing hardware info.

Could it be a poor battery?
That seems very likely. Does it have to be a special type of battery or will any cheap generic one do?

  • Msi 890fxa-gd70 posting problems

the problem started after i installed a new thermaltake frio cpu cooler, i installed it outside of the case on the box the motherboard came in. I get the splash screen but the keyboard wont respond and hangs at code 38 with a usb mouse and keyboard and one sata Hdd & dvd drive plugged in. if i remove the mouse and keyboard it goes to code 78 and hangs. if i remove the hdd & dvd drive it cycles through and tells me i have no boot device. i have tried different combinations and tryed moving the ram around, just 1 stick!. i have tried clearing the cmos throughout doing the different combinations. I have tried all the different sata ports for just the hdd, and i have tried all the different usb ports to try to get the keyboard to register, i did also try another known working usb keyboard. this motherboard has never been OC'ed this is a custom build computer for a friend so i only have limited time to keep messing around with combinations of hardware. the ram is tested and i also tried using one of my sticks from my rig with no luck. so here is the specs
    msi 890fxa-gd70 mobo - bios 1.6
AMD phen II 555 BE - no oc and no unlocked cores
    G. Skill rip jaws 1333 mhz cas 9
this rig was working perfect for 2 weeks before i tried to install the new HS, i already checked the pins on the cpu to make sure that i didnt damaged it. i always practice safe ESD rules and was wearing my bracelet. i was very careful when installing the new cooler and made sure it wasn't too tight of a fit, i have already done this before on my rig same mobo, cpu and cooler and had no problems with it. I am stuck in a corner and I am hoping to find some help out... Any suggestions? Please and Thank You in advance

i have tried that also, the main problem is that i cant get it past code 38 with an usb keyboard in it so that i can enter the bios. i can get it to cycle through and not hang, but that is without any keyboard or Hdd so im back at square one. i still need to try an PS/2 keyboard but finding one is actually harder than i thought it would be. this board hasn't have a bios update, it came with 1.6 already on it. its not even an month old yet. but thank you for an possible answer to this dilemma.

  • MSI Z77 GD55 endless boot cycle with 32GB of RAM

Got a Ivy Bridge GD55 with a 3770K and 32GB of G.Skill 1866mhz Sniper RAM - whenever I use more than two sticks at a time, or outside of the 2 and 4 slots my computer refuses to boot up - it powers on, fans whirl for a couple seconds and then the machine resets. All four sticks will boot properly if they're placed in the 2 and 4 slot, but once I add the other two the system refuses to boot up, doesn't even get to POST before restarting itself.

  • Msi z77 g45 bootup problems

hi, i was trying to install 4x4gb of the same ram, they were all working perfectly on another system, if 4 are in, my pc does a continous amount of turning on and turning off, however if i take two out, windows boots perfectly fine again......what's wrong with this motherboard?

Quote from: scuzzyboi on 26-March-13, 09:21:38
yup, guess those dimm slots are both shot, i tried switching to dual channel mode, wouldn't work, good times, now i understand why some of my builder friends don't use msi boards....
As previously stated, this is usually the result of bent cpu pins due to improper cpu installation. It is possible as with all electronics that there is a manufacturing defect, but that is by far and away the leading cause.
Blaming it on MSI then bashing is not only not allowed, but very irritating.
The good news, is that even though bent cpu pins void the warranty, MSI usually has a sense of humor about this and repairs the board anyway.
If you need any further help, please contact MSI and tell them why them how terrible they are for you breaking your board.

NovJoe@ it is showned as limited connectivity. It does say that there is a LAN plugged in, but with no internet connection.
There is a green light in middle, which is stable and a orange light on top which is blinking. It is the same as when it's working.
If the connection shows limited connectivity, your system is actually hotwired to the router already and the hardware are fine on your system.
What causes this to happen are 2 scenarios, one of them may need you to configure your IPv4 LAN Protocol aka I.P. address, Gateway, Subnet and DNS address in your LAN Properties. The other may be due to the Network Filtering which your router may be configured to control the access of systems accessing it, at the same time, it may also be configured to do DHCP I.P. address allocation for the pre-configured MAC addresses. In other words, you need to configure either your LAN properties in Windows or your router or both, in-order to allow your current system to be allowed to access for Internet connectivity.

2 weeks ago PC would do nothing at all after I turned off and then tried to restart.  Thought I had bad power supply, but it checked out. Cleared cmos  by removing battery and turned off oc genie and that seemed to cure problem.
Left PC on ever since.  Had to turn off yesterday to check unrelated network issue and when I tried to restart It won't post.   Just get 3 beeps.  No video.  Nothing.  Tried to clear cmos, switch memory sticks, only use one mem stick in slot 1 and I get nothing but 3 beeps.  Very unlikely that both sticks are bad.  Tried powering on from internal switch and got nothing but 3 beeps.  Beeps are less than 1 second in duration so I guess they are short beeps.
    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
If I have to RMA to MSI how long does it take to get replacement?  What do I have to send to MSI, all contents of retail box or just the board?

I am ready to toss this board and buy another unless I can get this working.
At the moment there is know certainty about the definate cause for your problem.  What makes you so sure that the board is the cause (and not your CPU (which hosts the memory controller, after all), faulty RAM sticks (have you tested every single stick of RAM you have in the first slot (check user manual) and cleared CMOS (with A/C power cable unplugged from PSU before each new start-up attempt)?).
A contact problem between CPU Pads and board socket pins could also cause this (please reseat CPU and heatsink).  Another possible cause is a short-circuit problem inside the case (test the board outside the case on a non-conducting surface).

  • MSI 990XA-GD55 Mobo: Boots fine, no POST/chance to enter setup

So I have built my own setup here, been running it since May of this last year. I never thought about it until recently, but my computer has never done a POST, or shown me the screen that allows me to get to BIOS or Boot screens. The computer has been running fine, until recently (About a month ago or so) I will be playing any kind of game, and the computer just COMPLETELY crashes. No closing of the game and shutting itself down, no blue screens, just one second the comp is running, and the next it is shut down. So I did a stress test of CPU and GPU to see if they were just overheating or were on their way out the door... But both passed stress tests just fine. I then wanted to check my memory/BIOS, and this is where the no POST and setup screen "clicked" for me... I have been searching everywhere for info on this topic, and the best I can come up with is that there is a problem with my G Skill memory not being recognized? I have DDR3 1600 going, as it shows I can use up to at least 1866 without OC on this mobo. So I went to check what my BIOS said, went to owners manual to see how to get to it (As I never saw the screen where it asks you to press "Delete" or F11), yet in the manual, it says to look for exactly that. So I guess my MAIN question is... How do I get my computer to show me that screen on startup? I have read to reset the jumper to the 2-3 position for 15 seconds on the JBAT, and if that does not work, to pop out the CMOS battery... But wanted to get other opinions before I attempted such things. And in doing this, and possibly getting to the BIOS screen, will that even help me with my original problem of my computer all of a sudden crashing in prolonged "stress" situations? Ie, playing Lord of The Rings Online, I generally have to play for a few hours before it crashes as such. I tried to play Assassins Creed 3 today, and it crashed in the first 10 minutes. This led to my investigation into the GPU (As it only really occurs when playing video games). I was thinking the system was just overheating and auto turning itself off to protect, but after doing the stress tests, GPU stayed pretty stable at 80-85c over an hour, and CPU stayed below 76c on an hour stress test. I even did an hour PSU test, no crash... The only thing I can think would be memory.
I apologize for the multitude of questions and possibly incoherent order in which I wrote, but just trying to get as much pertinent info/process I went through as possible. Thanks in advance for any replies, and will be happy to give any extra info if needed!

EDIT: After looking through all the left over cases from items I purchased when building this comp, I realize I actually purchased 1866 DDR3, not 1600. But in looking at system properties here, it registers as 1600... But as I said before, I cannot access BIOS to adjust these values. Or maybe that is my problem in first place?

I was wondering about a good voltage for this setup, I think these two are running at 1.6V to start with... So going lower voltage would be ideal then, hmm? Less heat, less power consumption, and you do not have to worry about a decrease in performance? Especially if the latencies are lower, correct?
And I hate to say this, but I have had one of my first "noob" moments ever with this problem... It has been a few months since I took some compressed air to the mobo.. So went and bought some, blasted the heck outta the CPU/GPU/PSU, and the North/South bridges... Ran the same CPU stress test for twice as long, and it hovered at 41c, 42c was my max... *facepalm*. Before, it was even overclocking the CPU to 3.8GHz or so to work with the "data" it was running.. After compressed air, never really went above the 3.6 stock speed. I have never felt like such a goober!
As for the BIOS, turns out the F lock solved the problem, as the delete key is somehow considered a function key for this keyboard I guess. Was able to get into the BIOS, do some tweaking and all. Still nice to know that these newer systems dont beep anymore, and where to start pressing the delete key, instead of mashing it from boot!
Yet again, thanks for the tips, and this bit on memory/RAM is interesting, thank you for that input as well! I do not plan on upgrading the CPU any time soon, unless it is in a weakened state thanks to my neglect.. But I am still fuzzy on RAM details, so the mention of Latency/Voltage helped me in my upgrade search, thank you! If I am understanding it correctly, the 1866 will be future proofed, as well as having the ability for lower latencies compared to 1600? Does my system not go to 1866 because of the CPU or the mobo? As I thought the mobo supported up to 2133 OC.. So most likely the CPU, correct? I am looking at some Mushkin memory, if I get some 1866, I can lower its frequency to 1600, but decrease its latency in the process? ie getting some CL9, and lowering it to 1600 and CL8? How would I go about this, if you do not mind my asking? (If I understand correctly).
    Thanks again!
EDIT: I brought up the msi control center, and see that my RAM is actually running at ~1.5V. How can I see the latencies it is running at? It is rated at CL9 at 1866..

  • Problem with starting msi z77 Mpower

    Hello
i 've just bought a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800W
    and a mobo msi z77 mpower(today)
    i have this problem
i have tested the psu with 2 different mobo (the msi stated before and a asus p8z77 v pro) and in both cases the psu fan runs for few seconds and the it stops.i have tried it with and without cpu , with and without case fans , i have the same problem it turns the fans for few seconds and then it stops as if dose not have enough power.
tested the psu with the paper clip test and it works , but when i put the 24 pin connectors and the 8 pin connectors on the motherboard it dosen't. Maybe i do something wrong ?
I've  speak with tech support from cooler master and it seems it's not the psu
honestly i don't know what eles to try /do
    can you help me?
    thank you in advance

To go a step farther, when the board is outside of the case, you should have a monitor connected to the onboard graphics or a discrete card, 1 stick of RAM in the primary DIMM slot, and CPU with it's cooler for initial startup. Be sure to test on a non conductive surface of unprinted plain cardboard or an untreated wood surface.
