MSI Z77 MPOWER USB ports issue

Hi Y'all,
I have a problem with the USB ports on my mobo (or so I think) and I hope you guys can help. Hope this is not a double topic/thread either.
A few weeks back, I slightly took apart my system to swap out the PSU, install more fans into the case for some push-pull configs and more air cooling as I intended to OC my graphics card (I also reapplied the thermal paste on the chip) . After I put everything back together and rebooted, some USB devices (webcam, Corsair keyboard, mouse etc.) needed to be switched around to different ports to be able to work. After that everything seemed to work fine again. However, last week, when I tried to connect a Satawire cable to the front I/O panel USB port, the system takes a while to recognize the device. One recognized and trying to install drivers for the Satawire cable, the system failed to find drivers. Samething happened when I tried to plug in my HTC phone or PS3 controller (failed to install drivers). I have a couple of ports on the back (mobo I/O) vacant, tried plugging these things in, same result. Weird thing is my flash drive worked fine when I plugged it in (I haven't dared tried to unplug my webcam, or keyboard, or mouse yet).
I tried plugging the Satawire cable to my laptop, my laptop recognized and installed driver automatically. I have tried Clearing CMOS, reinstalling Intel Management Engine Driver and Intel Chipset Driver for the mobo (as some people suggested I try) but to no avail. I have also tried switching the USB cables (leading to the front IO panel of the case) to different ports (3 in total) on my Mpower mobo but to no avail as well. I really don't know if this is a Mobo/BIOS issue or an OS issue. I want reinstalling Windows as my last resort.
Please help if you can. If you need more information please let me know.
Thanks all.

just disable the USB 3.0 function and make them become USB 2.0...I'm not sure if there might be any changes on power supply. Maybe you could try.
I'm confused. I doubt disabling USB 3.0 Controller would help. The front IO panel has 5 USB ports (four 2.0 and one 3.0). I have my flash drive in the 3.0 port almost 24/7. I even tried sticking the flash drive into the 2.0 ports, my system still recognizes it as storage (albeit giving me a message that I would get much faster speed from the USB 3.0 port). I have most of my current devices connected to USB 3.0 ports in the back IO panel and everything is still working.
I have tried resetting Generic USB Hub as some people suggested online, but to no avail.
FYI, I tried booting my computer into safe mode to see if the problem persists and it does. But I notice in safe mode, my computer recognizes the SATAwire cable or the PS3 controller (via USB) almost instantly and failling to install drivers (after searching preconfigured driver folders) almost instantly as well, not like in regular mode, where it could easily take 10-15 seconds up to 30 seconds for the whole process. So is it safe to conclude that it's not an OS issue, meaning if I re-install Windows and start with a fresh driver folder, these issues would still happen?

If i boot up / run the windows 7 x64 install from the flash drive when its plugged in to the top 2 USB 2.0 ports on the back of the board it runs the windows install fine and formats everything ok but if i plug the flash drive in to the USB 3.0 ports it loads up but when it gets to the part what ask's '' which type of installation do you want '' upgrade or custom. i click on custom and it says
'' A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk,
CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

  • MSI Gaming 5 USB ports issue

    Hello everyone,
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, so as the title says it, sorta of a huge USB ports issue just happened after installing the motherboard / windows / all drivers, even restarted a few times
then tested the processor and video card.
Everything ok to that point, I left the pc opened for 3 hours, shut it down, the next day..I couldn't type the windows password.
Alright restart, that maybe one of those kinks that goes away on it's own I guess..Switched each device in different ports..nothing, tried only one device..still nothing.
Tried only usb2.0 ports then 3.0 port > a a little panic kicked in :D
So, in my bios I was seeing 2 keyboards 2 mice..ok...got a bios update from msi site..latest one..flash ..reboot..still nothing.
Strange part was..they were working just fine in bios and everything prior to windows loading, even after that mouse was showing power ( led was ok )but no functionality.
Safe mode didn't help..the miracle of last known good config saved the day.
BUT after choosing the option..ok it started working....randomly..I was typing the windows pass...and right in the middle ...it stopped again..mouse was working...tried again..stopped at 75% of the password.
Tried again...it worked > Reinstalled every driver.. seems stable for now, though being day 2 of this whole deal.
So if anyone honors me with enough time to read the story and maybe relate I would glady appreciate it.
Guys if anyone had any usb related incidents with any of the Z97Gaming boards please share
If I missed anything, please ask.
    Thank you

    Hello everyone,
Sorry for the delay in all of this and thank you for the input.
Specs are below, and this is something currently in the process of being upgraded.
    I7 4790k / MSI Gaming 5 / Sirtec 500W / 8 gb ram  Corsair Vengeance / AMD sapphire 7970 GHZ / one single HDD 1 GB
The Windows installation went fine on 2 other colleagues from work.
For the moment stable, I removed and reinstalled all USB related drivers.
It was a weird one though..

  • BOOT ORDER issue? MSI Z77 MPOWER + SSD Samsung 840pro

    Hello
I have an MSI z77 MPower m/b - Intel i7/ 3770k  and two hard disk drives...
First HHD (Samsung SSD 840PRO 256gb) connected on SATA Port 2.
Second HHD (WestedDigital WDC 2TB Green) connected on SATA Port 6.
The CDDVD is connected on Port 4.
    The SSD has WIN7 .
The WDC 2TB,  has 2 partitions. One with WIN8 and the other for BACKUP.
In the MSI BIOS under BOOT menu, i chose the HARD DISK DRIVE BBS Properties as shown :
Boot Option #1 Samsung SSD 840Pro
    Boot Option #2 WDC WD20EARS-...
When I start my computer it usually boots on WIN7 from the SSD (1st choice).
The problem is that SOMETIMES after shutdown, the computers changes the BBS order and BOOTS on WIN8 from WDC.
When I re-enter on the BIOS the HARD DISK DRIVE BBS Properties is changed to:
    Boot Option #1 WDC WD20EARS-...
Boot Option #2 Samsung SSD 840Pro
Can anyone help me with this boot issue?
    Thanks,

I recently installed the MSI Z77 MPower after replacing it with the Asrock extreme 4 mobo which i had before, am currently having problems with the RAM it wont boot if i place them in the correct slots for dual channel configurations but if i place them in the last two slots the PC boots up fine.
My Ram is the G Skill Ripjaw X series 1600mhz model number: F3-12800CL8-4GBXM.
Its driving me nuts two motherboards and nothing working, i just hope its not relating to my CPU or something like that.
Please...please guys really need your help with this, because without it running in dual channel configuration my first build feels incomplete due to this problem.
    Thanks in advance

Hi guys thanks for the replies and sorry for the late reply has i said before my MSI MPOWER Z77 motherboard  is totally brand new and i know for a fact that no bent pins in the cpu socket, from what i am aware of, if my RAM is related due to the type of RAM modules that i am using and you guys are suggesting corsair modules which ones do you guys recommend me getting.  You know when i said only slot 3 and 4 only worked could that be in a result of the RAM am using or not....??

Hi I'm new here and I jut bought MSI Z77 MPOWER for my new rig.
I have an issue regarding USB3.0 port that cannot detect my WDC external USB3.0 HDD.
The precise problem is when I plug the HDD to the port for the first time it could detect the HDD. But when I unplug and then plug it again to the same port the port couldn't detect it. But the port could detect my USB2.0 Flashdisk.

  • MSI Z77 Mpower Code A0, and wi-fi not detected ...

Hello, from about 20 days I use the new mainboard MSI Z77 Mpower.
My system is composed as follows:
    MSI Z77 Mpower, PC1500 DDR3 1866MHz 16GB Corsair Vengeance
    1.5V CL9 (2x8GB), CPU Intel i5-3570K 3.4 GHz, SVGA ASUS GTX660 TI, Samsung SSD 128gb 840pro.
I installed windows8pro in UEFI mode with ssd disk partition gpt.
As bios setup is everything default except xmp profile enabled for the Rams, and UEFI boot-legacy because I have linux in another disc.
It all seems to work fine, but I have a few doubts_troubles !
    1) Sometimes in debug LEDs, instead of the temperature appears the code A0 ... is it normal or it indicates a problem ?
    2) I've never tried the Wi-Fi, it is normal that it only works if the LAN cable is disconnected ?
The problem I had with wi-fi is that sometimes the sistem said that the hardware was not found or not connected ... I tried to install the latest drivers without any success, after several attempts, I think I found the problem ...
Wi-Fi is connected to the mainboard, I think in the USB port, and for some reason it does not make contact, after pulling back slightly the 1 mm. module it started to work.
If instead I press slightly forward, (the pressure that normally is used to attach the antenna) it loses the link ... Do I have to leave it like this or can I do something to resolve the problem ?
    3) Normally the steps to open and close the PC are very fast, in some cases, the PC takes a long time to shut down, and once gave me the same problem at the start, after a long wait I rebooted and it started without problems .. .
Normally, the computer is stable ... Do I have to try the thorough ram test ?
I apologize for being longwinded and thank you in advance for the answers.

    The wifi adapter is removable?
In case it is, without losing the guarantee.
If you give me confirmation, I try to see if it is just a matter of contacts.
    I need specific instructions!
for now it seems to work properly.
If ask rma, mainboard or complete one module wi-fi?
Wi-Fi, it is normal that it only works if the LAN cable is disconnected ?
    Thanks pikka68
No, the adaptor isn't removable. Perhaps I misunderstood, you were saying that when you hook up the Ethernet cable, the mainboard shuts off the wifi. You can check in the bios for an option in regards to this or it could be the OS I am not sure. If they are both working when needed, is there really a problem?

  • Overclocking 3770k and MSI z77 Mpower

I recently purchased a new PC with these specs and wanted to get started overclocking it. I tried a soft overclock of just 4.4ghz and it seems to be hit or miss. I'm fairly new to overclocking so i'm not 100% sure what changes I should be making to increase stability or what the symptoms are of an unstable OC aside from the system crashing.
I grabbed a few pieces of software to get started, CPUZ, Prime95 and Realtemp. Not sure if I need anything else. I also noticed the motherboard has an overclocking profile feature, is it possible to share overclocks with other people and have them work?
Anyways any help would be appreciated, thank you!

    MSI Z77 MPOWER ATX LGA1155
    corsair 620w-m power supply bronze
    msi 7970 3gb
I also did a bios update yesterday to h.80 or ...latest that liveupdate gave me. I used the tool on MSIHQ to format a USB stick to do it and it seemed to do it for me on restart.

First, careful with live update and bios update. Using the forum flash tool and archives here is safer. >>BIOSes<<
As for the overclocking recommendations, first we need to know what kinda of OC you want to do? A turbo type w/ all power savings intact? If so here are some screen shots of similar boards: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162043.0
The big things that people miss at first is vdroop. If you want to oc very much, you will need to manually set that to 100% for starters.
Otherwise, post screen shots of you uefi bios settings and we can look it over.

What happens when you put the vga in the top PCIE slot?
Are the 6 / 8 pin connectors hooked up to the vga securely?
The 2x 4pin cpu connectors (JPWR)
Do you have another vga to test the pcie slots/ another computer to test the vga?
Inspecting the pins would be a good idea as well as that is a common cause for pcie lane failure.
Also, sometime the default bios for some boards don't work with the 660 vga's try the beta:

  • MSI Z77 MPower heat pipe kinks

I found weird kinks like 3 around one of the heat pipes on the MSI Z77 MPower board from NewEgg. Is this normal? Will it affect performance or OC for future use? I think its a defect which I'm quite disappointed. What do you think?

Quote from: Froggy Gremlin on 30-December-12, 17:26:24
My only concern is if you are going to do extreme OC's with setting the MOSFET/VRM's to a higher level in the UEFI/BIOS. This causes a lot of heat and that is always a bad thing. For extreme OC'ing, many remove the stock hardware and use other cooling solutions on the MOSFET/VRM's anyway.
If in doubt, RMA the board with Newegg under the banner of it looks to be damaged. The problem with this kind of thing is it will probably work perfectly fine with no issues during normal use. If they test it and say it was operationally fine, I don't know what happens then.
Yeah, one kink is okay for me, but actually there are 3 kinks in total. So you do own a Mpower board? This board is rock solid but may be a few unlucky units to have some issues. Thanks for your advice thou.

  • MSI z77 MPOWER Poor GPU Benchmarks!! HELP?

I just installed my MSI Z77 MPOWER yesterday.
    Specs
Case - NZXT Switch 810 White
    Power supply - Corsair TX750m
    Motherboard -MSI Z77 MPOWER
    CPU - Intel -5 2500k
CPU Cooler - Corsair h80i (Love this thing.)
    Memory - Mushkin 16gb Blackline
    SSD - 2x 128gb Sandisk Extreme
Storeage - WD Caviar Black 1TB
    Graphics Card - GTX670 Galaxy 1062Boost - 6368 Memory Clock
Fans - 4 Corsair sp120's (I Hate them, so im buying noctua)
    NZXT 140's
    OS 1 Windows 7 Ultimate
OS 2 Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Full Video, Audio, Ethernet Support, Still working on usb3.0 its been giving me a hard time.
Now i love this board. Probably the best motherboard of 2012 hands down. Now my only gripe is im getting poor performance with unigine heaven. I have not tried other benchmarks besides geekbench and thats cpu related. Now my previous mobo was the p67 fatality performance, which was an ok mobo, i had some issues hense the new Mpower. I was gettting 1500-1600 points on heaven with everything maxed out @1920x1080p on the asrock fatality board. I have an effective stable cpu overclock of 4.4ghz and im not going further, i dont need to, my current gpu specs are above. with the msi moard im getting 1100 and thats putting lightly, one time i got 900. Now what do you suppose my issue is? I seen an option in bios settings>PCI subsystem settings> PCI BUS clocks are at 32, Is that the preferred clock for that, or is any of the other options like 248 bus clocks? Im not familiar with this bios setting as i didnt have this in my last board? I need input on this issue.

I usually set mine at 64, but unless you have other add-in cards, I don't think that setting makes much difference.

  • MSI Z77 Mpower, screen cannot be found.

    Hello!
Recently I was moving parts from my old case to a new one.
My old motherboard (ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3) stopped working, due a static shock or something.
I then bought a Z77 Mpower motherboard, PC started.
But my problem now is that Gainward 670GTX GPU cannot recognize my screen, I have tried HDMI and DVI as Ive always used.
The 670 card's fan is running, every LED light, fan inside the computer works. Cables are correct.
I tried with my old 560Ti from MSI and got picture on my screen within a secound.
Im pretty sure all the parts works together, anyways here is the setup im running:
    MSI Z77 MPower
    Intel i7 2600k
    Gainward 670GTX
    4x4GB Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz
    BenQ 24" LCD G2420HD
    Corsair CX 750W
Could be that the 670 GTX got a static shock as well? But then again, should the fan be running if it did?
Any suggestions, please and thank you.

The Beta's I linked are MSI releases, not hack files, so I use them if there is something in the change log that may benefit the system.
Please use the forum's USB flash method, very safe. Live Update for a BIOS flash sends shivers down my spine.
W8 huh? Well, I think we found the problem. The VBIOS needs to be updated to support GOP I think is the name of it? I am a staunch non supporter of W8, so I have not run into these W8 related problems.
Hopefully a forum mod or other user will be along shortly to advise on the steps to get your GTX 670 to work right.

we troubleshot your PC, not someone else machine.
also we can't claim part failure or to narrow down the issue,
since you don't meet the requirements with PSU.
with regard less if the problem is in the PSU or not, you need better PSU in all cases.

  • Problem with starting msi z77 Mpower

    Hello
i 've just bought a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800W
    and a mobo msi z77 mpower(today)
    i have this problem
i have tested the psu with 2 different mobo (the msi stated before and a asus p8z77 v pro) and in both cases the psu fan runs for few seconds and the it stops.i have tried it with and without cpu , with and without case fans , i have the same problem it turns the fans for few seconds and then it stops as if dose not have enough power.
tested the psu with the paper clip test and it works , but when i put the 24 pin connectors and the 8 pin connectors on the motherboard it dosen't. Maybe i do something wrong ?
I've  speak with tech support from cooler master and it seems it's not the psu
honestly i don't know what eles to try /do
    can you help me?
    thank you in advance

To go a step farther, when the board is outside of the case, you should have a monitor connected to the onboard graphics or a discrete card, 1 stick of RAM in the primary DIMM slot, and CPU with it's cooler for initial startup. Be sure to test on a non conductive surface of unprinted plain cardboard or an untreated wood surface.
