MSI Z77A-G41 USB 3.0 and PS2 problems

I have had this board for about 4 months now and have come to realize that non of the USB 3.0 ports on the back of the board work, nor do the PS2 ports for my keyboard. I tested this in Windows 8 and nothing registers when I plug my USB 3.0 flash drive in (which works in any other USB 2.0 port). I try booting from the flash drive through the port but it doesn't detect it.
As for the PS2 ports my keyboard uses a USB to PS2 adapter. I plug that in and nothing happens. I don't even know if power flows through those ports. I'll have to check that later.
Could this be an issue with the BIOS or perhaps be a defect?

Double check all the applicable drivers are installed. Any yellow exlamation marks in Device Manager? Also, that the USB controller(s) are all enabled. Have a look at the MSI Website for any current W8 supporting drivers, or a UEFI/BIOS that improves W8 support.

No Intel USB 3.0 driver for W8 was found at the MSI Website, but believe the W7 driver should work.

  • MSI Z77A-G41 Boot Problems

Just bought the mobo brand new, with ram & cpu connected everything spins up but no output to display, if I add gfx still no output to display, if I add my ssd the following happens h**p
I have tried all 4 sticks of ram in dimm 2 slot and same problem persists. I have tried a blank HDD non SSD and nothing outputs to display, tried an alternate blank SSD no output, tried a DVD RW no display.
My assumptions are that CPU isn't faulty given that it briefly posts with the SSD, the RAM could be the issue if the mobo is picky but doubt all four sticks are faulty.
For info the Windows 8 installation on the SSD is from a previous build and if I could get it to post would format and reinstall.
Is the mobo faulty or are the parts incompatible? Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks.
    Full list as follows

Most of the time, that is never going to work.
What connection method are you using to connect to a monitor? Onboard graphics or discrete card? And what is the monitor model?
I never intended the SSD to work, however by connecting the SSD with the windows installation on it is the only way I have been able to get anything to display.
I could only get the VGA connection to work connected direct between the mobo and my monitor, hdmi doesn't. My 560ti won't display anything either.
The monitor is a Digimate something or other but have had it several year with no real problems.
    Thanks

  • Msi z77a-g45 usb 3.0 Problem

    Hi
I have just bought 2 new Seagate eksternal harddisk USB 3.0 2TB and I have a problem. I connected them to the power supply and the usb 3.0 ports and it works as it should but when I reboot or shut down and come back to windows they are not identified by windows and I have to unplug the power supply and put it back in for windows to identify them. That is of course very unpractical. I tried to to use the usb 2.0 ports instead and then windows had no trouble identifying the harddisk at reboot/shutdown. I looked in device manager an there were exclamation marks on two "USB mass storage devices" before windows identifies the harddisk and no exclamation mark when I replug to the power supply. I then updated to the latest usb 3.0 drivers from this site but it didn't help. Btw when I start the computer I can see that bios has recognised the harddisk. So maybe its a windows problem?
Is this an common issue and are there an simple solution?
    Thanks in advance.

Attached is a beta bios sent from MSI.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
They say they cannot duplicate the problem though. Here is the test they did, let me know what they can do to trigger this.
    1.   Install System driver and reset
    2.   Connect USB HDD to USB 3.0 port. The device can be recognized.
    3.   Reboot the system
    4.   Check Computer and still can find the USB HDD
    5.   Power off the system
    6.   Power on and check Computer.
    Test System:
    Z77A-GD65
    BIOS: E7751IMS.A50
    WIN7 64 bit
    USB 3.0 driver: 1.0.4.225

  • MSI Z77A-G41, Ivy bridge compatible

Hello! I am planning on ordering a Z77A-G41 motherboard and a i5 3570k processor. It says it's Gen 3 compatible but I watched a YouTube clip of a guy building his computer with the same exact motherboard that I am planning to buy and he said he had to update his BIOS to make it compatible. Other than that I can't find any other information regarding this.
My question is: Do I have to update the BIOS for the motherboard to support i5 3570k or will it work right away?
    Thanks!

Quote from: Froggy Gremlin on 30-May-13, 16:49:25
Yes they are. I believe Bernhard missed the Z77 and was thinking Z68.
The other way to update the UEFI/BIOS without a CPU is to use an SPI flash programming device.
    Another possible is to contact MSI Technical if you can get the mainboard serial number in advance and ask them what it shipped with from the factory;

Sweet, thank you! I'll go ahead and contact them :D

  • USB (Mega stick), sound output and PS2 problems

    ==USB problem==
The MSI MEGA STICK do not work with the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR.
When you plug it, its recognized, you can write on the MEGA STICK, delete files but cannot READ from MEGA STICK. It freezes while display "reading". I have tried on lots of PCs. Only my MSI motherboard do not work properly. The same problem with my 2 MEGA STICK. And i had tried Windows XP and Linux. Same problem. Others USB devices works fine. Even card readers...
    ==PS2==
My optical wireless mouse do not works properly. When i turns on the computer, it works ok. If i restart, do not work. Restart again, works. And go on... Only this mouse. Others MB works fine.
    ==Sound Output==
And also with my sound output. The eletrical one (coaxial).
It do not work with my 5.1 home system. It works fine with my old SB Live. It gets worse when i use my tv output from my Radeon 9100. It only works SOMETIMES when the tv output is not plugged in.
Thanks to all that could help me.

    Mega stick.
have you updated the firmware ?
No. It Freezes before being able to update. Also the update do not tell about solving this problem
    "Firmware version: 2.05
    Update items
    1. Improve delete MP3 and voice files function.
    2. Fix device will restart while forward/backward Voice file."
you do know that windows xp does not come with usb2 drivers.
sp1 does and you have to install them yourself.
go to device manager and delete all usb entries and reboot and windows will install the usb2 drivers next time you boot.
if you get a slipstreamed version of xp you dont need to do this as it installed usb2 drivers rightaway.
slipstream means a xp disc with sp1 on it.
My XP cd is already SP1. Also tried on BIOS to use only USB 1.1V
    PS2.
tried to use the other ps2 contact ?
No. Could i use the keyboard PS2 to plug the mouse?
    SOUND.
this is not my area but it could be a good idea to post what the equipment is.
have you tried the latest drivers from http://www.nvidia.com ?[/quote]
Its a brazilian brend. You wont know. CCE. Its works fine with DVDs, my old SB Live! and others. Only with my K7N2 do not work properly. Its an AC3 decoder. The problem gets worse when i use the Radeon 9100 tv out.
Look like the problem on this thread.

When i updated the BIOS, it got even worse. Not even with the tv output unplugged it never worked anymore...
Its very disapointed to buy an expensive MB and realized that it do not work properly...
    Thanks yo your help.

  • Re: Msi z77a-gd65 usb 3.0 Problem

I also have a problem with the msi usb 3 driver or chipset; of course the driver & chipset are Intel's; however my mb is a z77a-gd65.
My problem with win7 is that autoplay kept interrupting copying files onto the usb3 drive sot that the drive is not accessible to the copy software; I updated the driver from Intel's site which was 1.05 instead of the 1.04 at msi & still the same problem.  The problem could be win7 tho.
I still had my SIIg usb3 board for pcie & so finally reinstalled the siig card; the copying of files is no longer interrupted with autoplay that results lots of errors of "drive not accessible".  The SIIg uses the nec (renesas) drivers.  It may be that Intel need to fix their usb3 drivers to work.  I still feel that part of the problem is m$ as win7 ignores the autoplay settings which was probably done when I was stupid enough to install the win8 release preview.

Split this off for you, it sounds like the usb3 keeps connecting/ disconnecting, we need some more info on your components.
    >>Posting Guide<<
I would start by eliminating the software by reinstalling the os and fresh drivers.
    Edit:
Is this a Seagate drive by chance?
Not a Seagate, it is a 2 gig Hitachi Turo.  The drive works well when I listen to my CDs on the drive; the problem is that I use it as "backup" for the 3 gig nas drive (wd mybooklive).  The nas is 3 gig only because the 2 gig was sent back to wd & was sent the 3 gig on the method where I was sent the replacement before I send the non-functioning drive.
My problem is somewhat resolved with my SIIg usb3 card; BUT Intel need to be informed about their problem but Intel may not do anything just like microsoft.  I did the uninstall of the msi usb3 driver, was successful using usb2 to copy the files; installed the "latest" Intel usb3 driver, ver 1.05 & still had problem.  Then decided to try the SIIg usb3 card which worked.

  • MSI Z77A-G41 New Build LAN Inop (No lights)

As stated in topic. Brand new build. Everything so far works good except the LAN. I am using a wireless USB port at the moment.
Anyways, I do not have any lights on the back of the lan port at all.
There is a RealTek controller showing up in my Network Adapters screen.
I have verified that I do have the latest BIOS version.
Verified cable is good with working computer and LAN card.
Any more ideas? Or should I start a RMA...
    Thanks in advance.

Quote from: Froggy Gremlin on 31-March-13, 11:06:53
Very possible. A lot of work, but if the mainboard has to be RMA'd anyway, maybe pull it out of the case and test it on a plain piece of carboard or untreated wood. That will also give a better chance to carefully inspect the LAN port for any contacts that may be damaged or repairable.
Thanks a ton for the help. Makes sense.
I am the type that since I may have caused the damage myself, I wouldnt feel right RMAing the board because it wasnt MSI fault the port buggered up. Do you think if that is the issue I would have caused any other damage. Or if everything is working good now (other than the LAN port) I may just get a PCI ethernet card and run it that way and leave the mobo alone.

  • Msi k8n neo-v v2.0 and harddisk problem

I been using this board for almost 3 years. My new (3weeks old) 500gb seagate drive works great until last week the cmos battery died but did not replace immediately due to my busy schedule. The cpu when nuts this morning unable to boot. I tried removing the memory, video card but none works. Then i tried only my old seagate 80gb it works perfectly. but when i insert the 500gb seagate it doesn't boot at all. i can't even enter the cmos setup screen when i press del.
I have many important files in the harddisk. well i don't know maybe the CMOS reset and unable to read the drive or the 500gb drive is damage.
any help? i don't know if its the mobo problem or the drive (i need all the files in the drive T_T) or should i warranty the drive. will it works after replacement?
note: i think the drive is working i can hear low noise like in my 80gb. i can't find any bios for my mobo on the official msi site and i can't use the live update because i use ubuntu in 80gb; windows on my 500gb.

  • MSI Z77A-GD55 Lockout

Hi there, I use a MSI Z77A-GD55 on my system and I believe I’ve made a terrible mistake.
I was messing around with the security settings and I thought that it would be cool to use a USB key instead of a password, so I made one through the MSI security screen on the bios setup.  When prompted, I double-clicked on one of the drives to select it as they key.  I immediately changed my mind and decided I wanted to use another one instead, so I plugged it in to my USB hub (while keeping the first one plugged in) and chose it instead.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but this second USB drive was an Ubuntu LinuxLive Key. I then clicked on the X in the upper right corner to save the changes I made and restart.
This is where I ran into issues.  The screen went dark, and in red letters, it said, “Warning!!! Please insert USB key press any key to check.”  I tried pressing any key, I shut down the computer and tried rebooting several minutes later, I tried re-plugging the USB drives, I tried getting back into the bios settings (I don’t suppose it would be very good security if it allowed me to do this!), but unfortunately, I could not get it to recognize that I still had every USB key it could possibly be plugged in!
What went wrong?  Did the LiveLinux key screw everything up?  Did I somehow mess up the key creation by choosing different drives?  How can these be recovered?  If they cannot be recovered, how can I access my computer?  I also had a Windows syskey file on the first USB drive- could this somehow have caused this?  Is there any way to solve this situation?
I haven't changed any files or formatted or done anything at all to the usb drives since the incident in the hopes that they can still regain my access.
I put a lot of work into building my system and I feel in over my head right now :(  Please help me regain access to my computer!

There is no way to get past this without the security usb key created. If the one created won't work the only possible solution would be asking MSI if this could be done if you prove your purchase: >>How to contact MSI.<<
Probably this didn't work because both sticks already were security keys. Make sure you don't use both but one at a time and retry.

  • Z77A-G41 issues

    Hi,
I recently started having problems with a new build I assembled back in October. First off I will list the components:
    MSI Z77A-G41
    i5 3570k
    8gb G Skills DDR3 PC17000/2133MHz (currently only running at 1600MHz)
    XFX Radeon 6950 2gb
    Corsair HX650 PSU
    OCZ 128gb SSD
    Western Digital 500gb HD
    Sony DVD-RW
    Rosewill WLAN card
Nothing is overclocked, and the max temp I've seen on the CPU using HWmonitor, BIOS, and a couple other programs was 49C (during gaming).  The system never got over 40 C, and the video card heat sink wasn't even hot (yeah I was desperate enough to touch the copper heat sink at one point)
The issue recently came up, and I have fighting with it for a couple of weeks now.  The system ran absolutely perfectly for about a month and a half after I first built it.  Then during a game of Civilization 5 on max settings, the video just hung up and the sound started repeating indefinitely.  I had to do a hard restart, and ti all booted up.  I tried the game again, and this time to did the same thing almost immediately and then I got a BSOD related to the video card.  It then went into an infinite reboot cycle where it would all spin up for 3 seconds, and then cut off and do it again.
If I waited about a day, it would all boot up fine.  I would get the Bios reset to defaults message on the first boot, hit F1, and everything was fine for an unspecified amount of time.  Then it would do it again.
I had recently installed some Windows updates, so I removed them all.  It didn't fix the problem.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics drivers and the catalyst control center.  I reinstalled all the Intel drivers.  I thought it might have been the PSU, so I tested the voltage with a DMM where it all was fine.  I temporarily replaced it with a CoolMax 750 I had laying around, and it performed worse (multiple rail PSU).  I then reinstalled Windows, and re-updated all the drivers.  I have tried cycling through the memory in different slots and only using one stick at a time.  I have used onboard VGA and removed the video card.  I unhooked all the unused SATA drives except for the SSD.  Nothing I have done has seemed to fix the problem or lead me towards a more definite problem.  During all of this, I would get random reboots, lockups, and BSODs (even one during the windows reinstallation).  Depending on the number of times and the situation I would be in to restart it, it would either reset the BIOS setting on reboot as stated previously, or it would go into the infinite reboot loop and I would have to leave it alone for a day.
Most of the BSODs that I have managed to get the codes for were ones related to video, memory, and driver issues.  The only thing that seems to be consistent about it is it crashes when running Civilization 5 sooner or later.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hey xmad,
Just wanted to report back the status.  So far I have the system up and running stable.  After the intel burn test failed the first time through, I had taken everything back out of it last night, blew it all out with compressed air, and re-assembled. I reset the CMOS. I then went into the BIOS and set the DRAM voltage to 1.5v and 2133Mhz.  I also went ahead and manually set the clock for the CPU.  I'm not sure what actually worked, but it was still up and running this morning.  I had it run furmark and burn test on max for a while last night and everything passed.
    Thanks for the support!
    Tim

  • MSI z77a GD80 PCI-e running at 8x and Bios update problem

Hi guys, first of all, sorry for my bad English, this is also my first topic, i recently bought a new PC, the spec is:

    GTX 680 lightning

    1TB HDD WD Caviar Black
    Asus xonar DX
The problem is, since the first bios, i can't run my PCI-E at 16x, i know when my card is idle the PCI-E goes to 1.1@4x , but when it's in use, it turns to PCI-E 3.0@8x   , I'm also waiting for bios updates to check if it solves my problem, but when i try to download the new version 1.3, the download fails ( I'm trying to download with Live update 5 )m is there somebody that can help me solve this problem pls?
    I've tried until now:
Replace the card into the first PCI-E slot again
    Clear the PCI-E slot
Update to bios 1.1 and 1.2 ( 1.3 is not even downloading )
Set PCI Gen 3 from Auto to disable, and it keeps running with PCI-E 3.0@8x
    Thx for any help !

As per the manual, the VGA must be in the primary slot to run 16X. BIOS setting for graphics 3.0 should be set to Auto.
    Do not use Live Update for BIOS updates. Too many borked boards are the result. Use the forum's USB method;
