Msi z77a gd 65 gaming overclock 3570k cant get 4.5 :( BSOD

Hi there im new here and i just want to know ehat causing my motherboard not to overclock my 3570k intel processor
@ 4.2 ghz and core voltage of 1.8 v and enabled xmp my oc is stable @ 4.2
but @ 4.5 ghz i cant seem to verify what causing the problem for bsod
what i did is cpu ratio 45x and core voltage to 1.3 volts and enabled xmp but as soon as i boot to windows 8 it crashes..
here is my bsod log:

what your reporting is common to both R9-290 + 290X so it may be the cards VBIOS as they are very similar!
go and contact XFX and see if they have a VBIOS file that fixes the issue! (you will need to contact them to see if they have a updated one that fixes the issue as they produced the card)

  • Msi z77a-g45

    Hello,
    I got a new build with a msi z77a-g45, Intel core i5 3570k and 8GB corsair 1666 DDR3 and a MSI 560GTX TI
this is not my first build so i went for it.
after i put it al together it did boot up and just kept running without giving me any form of beeps and my screen stayed black.
i went to troubleshoot some things and it all didn't help. after an hour i found out that when i push down on the (stock) cooler on the right corner it would boot up ( the phase leds all turn up) and when i let it go it just shuts down immediately.  same goes for when i push down on the right corner of my gpu it would boot and when i let go it shuts down. i dont know what this is. i replaced the cpu for another one and this didn't help either. i also went for another cooler ( scythe mugen 3 ) still the same problem. i now fixed it with some tie wraps to pull it all down and it starts.  do you guys have any idea what this is? i obviously want this fixed and I'm not sure if this is a rma problem or not. i also tried it out of the case ( on the desk ) to put down only the motherboard, CPU and gpu.
    thanks in advance,
    Wessel van Waas

You have a damaged CPU socket, and the board should be RMA'd.

  • MSI z77a-G45 Gaming 3770k overclocking?

I just recently purchased the z77a-G45 Gaming mobo and a i7 3770k, most of my googling would leave me to believe that the 3770k can easily obtain 4.6Ghz with fairly low voltages like 1.16-1.20 vcore; here comes the question...in order for me to obtain some level of stability @ 4.6Ghz I must crank my vcore to 1.4150 with 100% cpu offset resulting in a 1.39 vcore in windows with a 1.38 vcore under load.  I have all power saving technologies disabled, pll overvoltage enabled, cpu vdroop offset set to 100%; my question is am I missing something with MSI boards as this is the first one I've ever owned or did I just get a very power hungry 3770k?
    General system specs
    MSI z77a-G45 Gaming MOBO
    i7 3770k CPU
    16Gb of Gskill Trident X 2400mhz memory
    Corsair HX850 Gold PSU
    MSI GTX 670 PE OC
    Cooled by custom water loop

Alrighty, appreciate the info; gonna back down to 4.4Ghz as I can maintain stability with 1.275 vcore in bios = 1.26 in windows = 1.24 under load resulting in hottest core never exceeding 70...was really hoping for 4.7-5.0Ghz overclock when most everyone who reviewed this chip in the early days was claiming such great overclocks with such low voltage.  But I'll chalk that up to either misinformation or non stability checked overclocks, I guess I'm old school; cause if it can't hold up to a minimum 24hr pass of Prime 95 small fft's it isn't stable in my book.  Might consider delidding it in a year or so once the new wears off, I had my i7 920 for about that long before I lapped it into a mirror shine lol.  So based on my new information 3770k's on average overclock between 4.4-4.6Ghz and can require up to 1.4 vcore and higher past 4.6Ghz which is where you start to really become thermally limited on liquid as the Ivy Bridge's 22nm technology puts the cores to closely together in combination with intel's cheap ass thermal compound solution. Maximum recommended voltage for 24/7 shouldn't exceed 1.4 vcore without some kick ass cooling or a combination of delidded processor and kick ass cooling cause ideally you want your cores mid 70's and below...that about sum it all up?

Alright, now you see what I have. That is just about everything excluding things like my wireless mouse and keyboard.
So, I have been perfecting this build for awhile now, but I'm not the most experienced at overclocking. I've used about 5-6 motherboards during about a year trying to get my 3770k to overclock. Yes, I wasted quite a bit of money. I recently RMA'd my CPU because I thought it was defective since I failed to overclock. Now, I have a brand new one. Then, I switched my 2133 G.Skill Sniper memory for more basic Corsair  memory. I thought possibly it could have been my memory that was causing issues since it was about the only non-new part left up until now. Now, this build is has all completely new parts. I don't think anything is defective.  Lastly, my OS has recently been installed. About 2 days ago. All drivers /windows updates are up to date.
Alright, I gave my opinion on my hardware / OS and explained that. So, now I will try to explain my overclocking attempts. I first tried to overclock using the basic OC Genie II settings untouched. However, that didn't work out for me. I did get BSODs eventually or programs that crashed. Sometimes, games have crashed. I'm not doing anything overly important on this computer. I have a lot of other non-overclocked computers for various things like work ect. So, I am free to be able to play with this computer and try to get it OC'd properly. So, don't worry about that. I've read about 10-20 guides on overclocking and such, and for some reason I can't get things to be stable to the point that programs don't crash or fail. It seems with the Z77A-G65, there's no offset voltage tweaking option. If there is, I can't find it. I've read a lot that if you disable all power saving and use a fixed voltage that it can be more stable than using an offset voltage. Higher temps and more power usage I know.
So far, I've tried both, and neither have really worked for me. If I put vdroop offset control to 100% my temperatures increase but it can handle it. So, I tried setting the CPU to be fixed at 1.3 while at 4.5ghz. That was still not stable. Prime was ok, but some games and programs crashed. So, it wasn't stable for real world usage. Most of the time actually prime will be ok unless I try to put it at 4.8ghz with mostly default settings. So, after I tried 4.5ghz and 1.3 fixed voltage with no power saving options on, I tried bringing the voltage up to 1.350 which increased the temperature under load to about 85C. This wasn't stable either, so I went up a bit higher, well alot in overclocking standards. I went up to 1.4 just to see the temperatures and it got up to about 85C a occasionally higher. This was not stable either. So I tried turning off all C states and other power saving options and setting the vdroop offset control to 100% while also setting the voltage to auto. This wasn't stable. Usually when I set the voltage to auto , it will crash at anything above 4.7ghz and not boot. Anything below that it will boot, and even be capable of running prime or intel burn test, but it won't remain completely stable with all applications. Even basic programs like Firefox crashes sometimes. I do have one program that is pretty nice for benchmarking in the real world, and that's Amazon's cloud drive uploader. I ran it for a bit and it will eventually crash if I'm overclocking. I have tried some games like Diablo 3, Borderlands 2, ect and they have crashed as well on a clean windows 8 install.
I've also tried some of the turbo templates that only OC during turbo boost but idle at normal speeds/ 1.6ghz. This wasn't stable either. So, I'm at a loss, I've tried Turbo overclocking, Fixed voltage overclocking, offset voltage overclocking, power saving options on , and power saving options off. No luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

First off, Ivy CPU's under conventional cooling solutions are terrible OC'ers. 85C is too hot for everyday use under stress. Mid 70C's or better still, less is recommended. All significant power saving features are lost once the CPU V. is taken out of Auto. VDroop at 100% supplies the most voltage and decreases it as the percentage is lowered. Turbo OC is often the best over a CPU Ratio OC. From what I can read, the CPU you have is average and should run stable at 44X or maybe 45X on Auto CPU V., all power saving features intact.
32GB of RAM is great for rendering, graphics and audio/video creation, but if the goal is a gaming machine, 8GB to 16GB is more than enough.
    Added: Recommended settings; SA 0.965-0.970v's, PLL 1.82-1.84v's, I/O 1.07v's.

  • I5 3570K + MSI Z77A-S01 @ 4.4Ghz help reaching 4.5 please

    Hello!
I just purchased a new computer.
    CPU: i5 3570K
    MB: MSI Z77A-S01
MEM: Vengance red Low profile 2x4 1600
    GPU: GTX 660 DCII TOP
    COOLING: Corsair H80i (h2o)
after reading some oc guides I just can't seem to find anything useful for MSI boards
anyways.. I've reached 4.4Ghz at Vcore 1.280.. stable in windows with IBT stress test standard within decent temperatures (80 max at one core though).
when I then try too change to 4.5.. Windows boots up, but keyboard and mouse doesnt work.. I found that vcore ~1.32 would make it somewhat stable, with bluescreens and BSOD's occuring..
Could someone please help me step by step with what to change to get it stable at 4.5 before I try next time because I went back to 4.4.. (see attached pictures of current)
    current settings:
    Input please!  =)
    Best Regards,
    Kristian

If you are just trying to make it run at 44x all the time, disable EIST, Intel C-state, EUP2013
Vdroop: 100% or low w/er that board affords
    Set: I/O: 1.1
    DramV: 1.55
(Assuming that memory is rated at 1.5v not 1.65v)
Actually im trying to see how far i can get it too run stable for daily usage.. Im quite new at overclocking..
My goal is 4.5ghz but I can settle for 4.4ghz if I have to :-)
I will try changing those parameters when my wife is done playing skyrim! ;-)
    Thanks xmad

  • Help with OCing my MSI Z77a-G45 gaming with i7 2600k

Hi there its been awhile since ive done OC since my old intel e8400 and everything looks different now..i just recently bought a  brand new Msi Z77a-G45 gaming MB and i7 2600k for good deal and would like to push my limits on this setup
    Currently setup:
    intel i7-2600k
    8gb ddr3-1600 gskill ripjaw X Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
    MSI Z77a-G45 gaming motherboard
    Antec Hcg-750 PSU
    Evga gtx670 single card
my old rig Corsair H50 for now waiting on my custom built water cooling
i know i tried using the OC genie to test out their OC setting which gave me 4.2ghz with 1.336vcore and friend told me thats kind of high for a 4.2ghz?
any help will be good step by step. my goal for now is to reach like 4.4-4.5ghz until i get a better cooling system

    Hi Guys,
Maybe you can help me out. I'm currently running turbo OC @ 4.4ghz stable. When I set the Turbo ratio to 45, i always fail the prime95 test or get bsod. Below is my hardware and bios settings:

    RAM: G.Skill Sniper F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR (4GBx2) CL 9-9-9-24-2N 1.5V XMP
I followed most of the settings from xmad/Froggy Gremlin on this post - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=164847.0. Any other settings I can tweak? Or do I need to go manual and set the vcore voltage to 1.3+?

    COOLER: Thermalright Venomous-X
    MOBO: MSI Z77A-G45
    RAM: G.Skill Sniper F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR (4GBx2) CL 9-9-9-24-2N 1.5V XMP
I followed most of the settings from xmad/Froggy Gremlin on this post - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=164847.0. Any other settings I can tweak? Or do I need to go manual and set the vcore voltage to 1.3+?
Can you please send me your stable 4.4GHz OC profile for your Z77a-g45 + 3570K CPU configuration? I find it VERY dificult to go beyond 4.2 GHz stable. Thanks!

  • MSI Z77A-G45 Motherboard Overclocking/BIOS help!

    Hello everybody
I've been having quite a bit of trouble with my MB/BIOS being unable to push the OC beyond 38/3.8GHZ and the RAM won't go further than 1600MHZ.. Now i was able to do this before (Had a stable 4.4GHZ with 2133MHZ RAM speed.. i'm not quite sure what's stopped me from being able to OC more than these stated values, however in ClickBIOS i can OC higher than i can in the BIOS menu on startup itself but the settings don't apply correctly
    I have a I5-3570k CPU, MSI Z77A-G45 MB, Crucial Ballistix Elite 2x4GB 1600MHZ, MSI 560ti GTX

  • MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming ethernet problem

    Hi!
I bought Z77A-GD 65 Gaming motherboard few days ago.
Everything is working except the network adapter.
I cant install the drivers for it because it says that the device is not found.
I checked the windows device manager and its not showing it up either, so is it broken or what?

do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed and try again
else put mainboard out of PC case over wooden table and retry.
what's your current bios version installed?

  • Connection drops - MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming

    Hello there.
I've tried to search for a similar issue on the forums, and the interwebs in general, without any luck.
So recently I upgraded almost all the parts in my old computer, including the motherboard which is now a MSI z77A-GD65 gaming motherboard.
So, after my new setup, I'm having troubles with internet connection losses during gameplay.
The connection losses only lasts for around 5-10 seconds before I'm connected to the internet again, and it happens from every half an hour, to not at all, but it is an annoyance when playing games, as you can imagine.
I've been in contact with my internet provider every couple of days for the past week to see if it was a problem at their end. Although I got a new router, there doesn't seem to be a problem with the connection in general. They couldn't see anything on their end at least. And if I plug my laptop to the router via cable, I don't get the dropouts either.
So.. I'm faaairly certain it has something to do with the new hardware, more specifically, the motherboard. But I am not sure.
What I have done, is to check the connection, obviously.
I have also updated all drivers, using the LiveUpdate 5 tool that came with the motherboard (which was pretty intense since it updated the BIOS as well, and after that I couldn't boot until I reset the pins).
Anyways, drivers updated, couldn't find more recent ones.
I've checked if there has been a problem with the servers at the game company of the game I am playing, not the issue either.
Also, the yellow "warning triangle" at the connection icon in the taskbar is also showing for the brief moment of 5-10 seconds (not enough to do a troubleshoot)
I didn't have any problems with connection drops with my old computer, even at 8-9 hour gaming sessions.
Note that there doesn't seem to be any pattern in when the connection drops, as it can be from every half hour, to not at all during an evening of gaming. And there is no connection between what I am currently doing in the games I play, when the connection drops.
I hope you can help me out, because I have no clue at this point.
    /thanks

Just use the forum flash tool w/ a fat 32 formatted usb stick:
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
The directions are posted with the bios. It is very easy.
