MSI-Z77A-GD55 CPU Fans

Hello all, new poster
Installed my mobo today, no problems par from one. My CPU fans are running at max (2000ish RPM) which is rather loud as you could imagine. Is there any way to ramp them down but maintain a good temperature (obviously)?
I have the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus cpu cooler.
Thanks

of corse it needs a 4th pin! cpu fan headers are PWM so they run by square wave ouputs, the 4 lines are (intel fan header) pin: 1 - ground (black cable), 2 - +12V(DC) (yellow cable) , 3 - sensor (green cable) , 4 - control (blue cable)! (AMD fan header pin: 1 - ground (black cable), 2 - +12V(DC) (red cable) , 3 - sensor (yellow cable) , 4 - control (blue cable))
a 3pin fan header will run at full speed all the time as it has no control line pin 4(blue cable) that varys the speed of the fan hense it runs at maximum voltage all the time! 3 pin headers have only the ground - +12V(DC) - sensor with no control line!
But the sys fan one can be controlled though even with just 3 pin. I don't think that because it's 3 pin makes it uncontrollable. From my system i do learn that if 3 pin fan is used on 4 pin connector, no control will be given. But it's a different matter on 3 pin connector.

  • MSI Z77A-GD55 doesn't read SYS FAN1 and SYS FAN2 speeds

    hi guys,
I'm using my MSI Z77A-GD55 in a Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced case and I'm really happy with it.
my Xigmatek cpu fan is connectend to the CPU Fan connector and works well.
to the SYS FAN1 and SYS FAN2 connectors I connected the front panel red LED CM Mehaflow 20cm and black one on the top.
the BIOS is updated to the latest v1.11 and works pretty well.
now my problem is that the bios doesn't read the speeds of the fans connected to both SYS FAN connectors.
also no other software, like SpeedFan for example, shows the speeds - all just show 0 although the fans run properly.
as far as I remember at least one of the SYS FAN speeds was read properly with older bios versions.
but never both of them and that's wired...
that's what the bios reports as Hardware Monitoring:
I did not care much about that but right now I'm trying to make my system as silent as possible.
so it' very important to know what's going on there.
any ideas or suggestions about the issue?

Could it be because that your system fan got very low speed??  if your system fan got speed like 1000 RPM or above, it should be detected well...
or you could check first how fast your system fans by connecting it first to CPU fan just to check....
If system fan runs >1000RPM then it should be compatibility issue with the fan..

My legacy gtx9400 vidcard will push the monitor, but my  new purpose-bought EVGA 650x2gig fails to generate **any** response (no signal) in the monitor.  An EVGA tek said it looked to him like a mobo BIOS/vidcard incompatibility.  He advised flashing BIOS; I am very **risk adverse** and never flash  BIOS. So assuming the problem is BIOS clashing with vidcard, then I need a downmarket/older vidcard.  What is a good -- older -- midmarket Nvidia  vidcard (  AMD Linux drivers inferior ) that the V1.2 MSI BIOS can handle?

Thanks for your interest & comments ... I am stumbling about and know it.
Believe me: the NVIDIA chip EVGA _650 vidcard fails totally in my system.  So you say I need BIOS V1.5 to run my 1240.v2 ... and I am **not competent** to risk that/any BIOS flash.  That's tuff-titty for me tho I get no error messages from my system.  Casual  *nix benchmarks  are respectable. Unless you consider the NVIDIA-650 vidcard failure an "error message". Very well ... I must work around that issue and not arrogantly try to do what I cannot do.  I **can** buy ( for less than $150)  & install an NVIDIA_550 vidcard ; if I think it will work. That's my question ... given that a legacy GTX_9400 works and the EVGA_650 fails, what likelihood that a last generation NV_550 vidcard works?
Or .. are you telling me that the early BIOS versions for the GD_55 are well&truly a mess and **nothing** may be trusted to work with them. I still will not risk a BIOS flash, but will climb down the vidcard ladder until some legacy part above the GTX_9400 works! Thanks again for your post and info.

  • MSI Z77A - GD55 mother board. Does not start.

    Hi
My completely new computer does not start. It's completely dead. (worked fine yesterday)
There is a power button / lamp on the mother board, it blinks continually when power is connected. Nothing at all happens when I press the computers power button or the power button on the mother board.
Is this a problem with the mother board or could it be the power supply that has failed?

  • [Help] MSI radeon 7870 2GB OC problem on MSI - Z77A-GD55

Installed my new GPU onto my  MSI - Z77A-GD55 , but monitor stays in power save mode , switched the GPU to the lower PCI2.0 slot (there are 3 of them) top 2 are PCIE 3.0 and the lowest is 2.0 and it worked , but the problem my GPU Fans cannot fit because of the USB/POWER ON-OFF top case buttons(wires) since its right next to the PCI 2.0 slot.
Bios is updated to the latest version 1.11
PCI-gen3 is on Auto in the bios settings (There is only Auto and Disable) option.
Any one has this issue before?

Did any card before work in the PCI-E 3.0 slots?
Yes my old ati radeon 4670 BUT i had this issue again first time i added the old GPU right as i bought the motherboard  (1 year ago ) where my screen would be in Power save  mode , but i removed my ram , removed power cable to drain power , and my GPU worked , from that i never removed / added anything in my computer (hardware wise) so this problem was here right from the start , the thing is i fixed it the 1st time , but i did had the 1.1 bios (even though i tried installing the new GPU on the 1.1 version and it didnt worked so i updated my bios to 1.11 and still the same issue)
Also as this motherboard has 3 PCI slots 2 are PCIE3 and the lowest is 2.0 (on 2.0 my old/new GPU works fine , devise manager sees it and drivers working aswell) but not on the other 2 PCIEx3 slots , maybe the top PCIE ex3 slot is broken, but the 2nd PCIe3 slot i never installed anything there, and still doesnt work aswell , so i think its either some issue in the BIOS settings
Some bios settings i could find that has to do with GPU

Nop. And voltage was set to 1.33 for a year.

I think my onboard audio on my MSI Z77A-GD55 has broke no matter what it just says not plugged in i've tried a reinstalling drivers, cmos reset and a fresh install of windows but it still says not plugged in.

Did you connect the front case panel ? If so, have you ensured that you used the HD one ?  Disconnect the front panel audio for now to check if a short may be causing this problem.
I've tried that and all audio output are doing it once it randomly  said the speakers were plugged in, but even tho windows was showing it was playing sound my speakers and my headphones that both 100% work didn't play anything

  • MSI Z77A-GD55 Lockout

Hi there, I use a MSI Z77A-GD55 on my system and I believe I’ve made a terrible mistake.
I was messing around with the security settings and I thought that it would be cool to use a USB key instead of a password, so I made one through the MSI security screen on the bios setup.  When prompted, I double-clicked on one of the drives to select it as they key.  I immediately changed my mind and decided I wanted to use another one instead, so I plugged it in to my USB hub (while keeping the first one plugged in) and chose it instead.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but this second USB drive was an Ubuntu LinuxLive Key. I then clicked on the X in the upper right corner to save the changes I made and restart.
This is where I ran into issues.  The screen went dark, and in red letters, it said, “Warning!!! Please insert USB key press any key to check.”  I tried pressing any key, I shut down the computer and tried rebooting several minutes later, I tried re-plugging the USB drives, I tried getting back into the bios settings (I don’t suppose it would be very good security if it allowed me to do this!), but unfortunately, I could not get it to recognize that I still had every USB key it could possibly be plugged in!
What went wrong?  Did the LiveLinux key screw everything up?  Did I somehow mess up the key creation by choosing different drives?  How can these be recovered?  If they cannot be recovered, how can I access my computer?  I also had a Windows syskey file on the first USB drive- could this somehow have caused this?  Is there any way to solve this situation?
I haven't changed any files or formatted or done anything at all to the usb drives since the incident in the hopes that they can still regain my access.
I put a lot of work into building my system and I feel in over my head right now :(  Please help me regain access to my computer!

There is no way to get past this without the security usb key created. If the one created won't work the only possible solution would be asking MSI if this could be done if you prove your purchase: >>How to contact MSI.<<
Probably this didn't work because both sticks already were security keys. Make sure you don't use both but one at a time and retry.

  • MSI Z77A-GD55

    good morning,
I have a card MOTHER MSI Z77A-GD55 that I have sent in the sav of the Store or I l 'ai bought.
They say to me qu 'il be able to make nothing because pines are twisted that I owe the product turned to the producer. My PC has turned very well since December before turning it in the sav of the store.
I think that c 'est they who twisted pines otherwise my pc n 'aurait never worked since December. I would like I would know how how make I thank you

As your post isn't entirely in English it is quite hard to understand but I guess pins in your board's socket are bent and reseller refuses to rma it.
Physical damage is not covered by warranty but MSI is usually quite accommodating when it comes to bent pins. If reseller refuses rma contact MSI about it maybe they can assist you or takeover rma process: >>How to contact MSI.<<
Unfortunately there is no direct rma to MSI in Europe so it would be an exceptional case if they'd take over. Also like said before bent pins are not necessarily covered.

  • MSI Z77A-GD55 Onboard Sound better than cheap sound cards?

    Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding my motherboard's (MSI Z77AGD55) onboard sound. I always have a static noise when I use my Microphone and my friends dislike it. If I am recording something, I get the same static and I dislike it. I understand that this is common with the use of onboard sound. My question is: If I buy a cheap video card ~$20-$40, will I still have the static problem? I am asking because I would like to get rid of it, but I am not willing to spend a lot of $$ on it. I also have plenty of PCI-Express 1 slots open for a cheap sound card. My motherboard has no PCI slots.

  • MSI K9N2 Diamond CPU FAN SPEED

It is not much of a problem, but, recently I changed my msi k9n platinum with k9n2 diamond and, of course, I transfered the old hardware to the new mainboard.
My CPU is x2 64 athlon 6000+ and my fan is Cooler Master Susurro (http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=354). On my platinum board my fan
acted quietly, around 1000-1100 rpms and the cpu temp. around 42-44 degrees celsius. As I changed the mainboard the cpu temp. fell on 34-36 BUT the cpu fan
is now cooling faster, around 1400-1600 rpms. I don't mind my cpu 8 degrees hotter and a better sleep at night :D. I've tried latest drivers, cool&quiet drivers, bios
cool&quiet, smart fan target.. nothing helps. It is the same. I run windows XP SP2. Updated to the last released bios. Tied speedfan, but it doesn't support that
mainboard. And my fan is now too loud, can someone help me

When changing motherboard you need to do at least a repair installation of Windows. Can't really be avoided.
That would mean you reinstall motherboard drivers. Maybe things work better this time.
You set Cooln'quiet to minimal savings, if I'm not mistaken.
Your Susurro got a few years. Are you sure it is up to the job? The test you link to was with a Socket 939 processor, at about half to 2/3 the power and heat output to the one you got.
Oh, and please mention your PSU, too.

  • MSI Z77A - G45 - CPU multiplier problem

    Hi,
    I recently bought this PC:
    Intel Core i5 3570 k
    MSI Z77A - G45 - with BIOS V 2.5
    Seasonic S12II-620 620W
    Corsair Vengeance Low Profile White 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600
    Amd HD 7850
    My problem is following:
If I change CPU Ratio (multiplier), in standart mode to 40x and leave CPU core voltage auto, it cause instability, even if use Cpu core voltage 1.25 V for ratio 40x.
But that's not all problem. I could understand, why I cant OC my CPU, but this instability is even if I change multiplier to 30x from default 34x and this makes me uncertain.
Now I will describe you that instability...
OK so, when I change ratio to 40x or 30x it doesn't matter, it runs to windows successfully but after using windows something about 3-6 hours pc turns off.
I also  discovered second problem by coincidence. If I hit F11 (Boot menu) , when I am starting pc and I have set ratio 40x or 30x, I can choose what I want to boot only for 10 secs and after that PC restarts by itself....
But if I set default 34x ratio I can choose what I want to boot forever and pc doesnt restart.
I know that boot menu is not some test of stability but it is very strange... Why If I change multiplier, it doesnt matter, if it is higher or lower then default settings it just cause instability ? :-/
    Thanks for help.

I was just saying that the beta caused a vga problem, latest release the f11 problem so try the release prior to that, but if you got it working don't touch it! lol
Are you still using the beta bios?
No clue, we are just users like you are, just keep checking the website. You should report the troubles you had with 2.4 to msi too.>>How to contact MSI.<<
Yeah iťs working now. As I said, I wanted flash older Bios 2.4, so for sure I click on restore defualts in bios (for sure before flashing) in that 2.64 Bios version...
PC restarts and my graphic card started working =)...
So now I am running on that the latest Bios as you refered mi (2.64 beta).
I am running some test of stability on @ 4 GHz with 1.070 V (IBT,Prime, memmaxx, linx, cinebench, occt, super pi, 3d mark) temps are 62 C max...
    So I guess it's ok now =)
At the end I have one question :
My Cpu is now running on 40 x ratio all the time, there is no some underoverlocking ratio (16x etc.) when it's in idle. I was thinking the Ivy Bridge overclocking is overclocking of turbo only...
I know It's detail, because I have good temps even in idle with 40x ration (33-39 C) but i want to be assured if it is ok.
    EDIT:
And btw I didnť have 2.4 bios flash on, I wanted put them on... But before flashing my 2.64 beta started working right with HD 7850 as is wrote upper.
    I had Bios 2.5 before 2.64
