MSI z87 G 43 Gaming MB - Audio DAC question

I just got Beyerdynamic DT-990 pro 250ohm headset today, it is my first studio grade headset so I am quite clueless in how to properly set it up. I have the MSI Z87 G43 Gaming Motherboard - http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z87-G43-GAMING.html
Which is said to have support for up to 600ohm headset. Now, I connected my headset to the front headset jack on my PC, I can hardly hear anything, not only that, the left and right channels are outputting the same sound.
I then tried connecting on the back, it is much better. I thought this motherboard's amp was built in the frontside, anyone with this motherboard or lineup help me out with this?
And finally, most of my audio sounds low with maximum increased volume, and i never knew this headset has no build in volume controls like all other headsets I have used. Anyway to increase the volume too?

Hi,
Front panel will always be lower quality than what the actual motherboard ports offer.
Motherboard's "sound card" is nothing special, it's there for a simple user without special demands. If you really want to experience something of better quality, it's always best solution to buy dedicated sound card. In many cases, almost cheapest one can offer better sound than motherboard's integrated sound.
Do you have all the drivers installed for the motherboard, and possibly for headset?

    currently testing r9 280z card with default gpu clock 850mhz instead of 1000mhz incase that's whats causing it

  • OC Genie on the MSI Z87 GD-65 Gaming Motherboard Questions?

    Hey Everyone,
    My name is Mark Findlay. I am new here but came to ask a few questions about my motherboard I have had since about July of 2014.
    I have overclocked with motherboards many times before but was curious about the OC Genie option when I had installed the board and
    was happy to find that it overclocked my CPU to 4.0Ghz with out a single BSOD ever and has been great with temps. Just around 22c-28c
    with an H110 from Corsair.
    Anyways, I would like to know if when using OC Genie, is 4.0Ghz all I can get from the Auto OC feature? I mean is it going through and finding what my CPU is capable of and setting it to the best speed and settings so it doesn't have stability issues? I would like to OC it more and I know I should just take the time and go through with a standard overclock but I would like to know if you can edit or change things that OC Genie at all?
    Thank you and I hope someone out there can tell me for sure either way how to do it or that it is not possible!

    Hello,
    As far as I'm aware of, OC Genie is limited to those 4.0GHz (or 4.4GHz for i7 4790k), yet depending on the CPU you have( I guess you have 4670k?). So if you want anything further, you need to do it yourself.
    On motherboard like Z97 MPower Max there is a little switch that increases OC Genie function's clocks even more, but not sure about GD65 (I doubt it has something like this)

  • Z87 GD-65 Gaming with MSI R9 280X 3G BF4 (OMG-:censored:-BBQ)

    Good morning!
    I built a new gaming rig last week, and I cannot get the graphics card to work.
    My spec is:
    Intel i7 4770K
    MSI Z87 GD-65 Gaming
    16GB 2400MHz RAM
    250Gb SSD
    1Tb HDD
    1000W Modular PSU
    I've managed to install all components, and successfully run Windows 7 64 without the graphics card, but as soon as I insert the card (with power off and PSU lead removed) and try to start up the machine, neither the HDMI from the motherboard or the graphics card work.
    As a note, the mobo HDMI leaves the monitor searching for a signal, and when using the GPU the screen says there is a signal, but it shows either nothing, or purple or green vertical stripes on the display.
    Has anyone had this issue before?
    I've tried to register the items with MSI, but the product registration center isn't working.

    Problem Solved(ish)!
    I used a DVI cable, and it worked straight away! - Cheers Svet!
    Once I had installed the drivers and CCC etc, then the HDMI started working.
    I've got no idea why this is the case, but I'm just glad I resolved it!
    As a side note, on start-up, nothing appears until the Windows 'Welcome' screen - no BIOS screen (as if on a secondary monitor). Is there a way to change this?

    If i set the multiplier at x42 with 1.2V, Windows set temps dinamically from 0.1 to 1.35v when i run Linx 0.6.5, why?
    If i load default value and after i press oc genie on the motherboard the system doesn't boot.
    The initial bip of speaker doesn't ring.
    I have 1.5 bios, i update this?

    i have set the parameter how you said, but the frequency doesn't go at 4200 but remain fixed at 3500. at power limits & durations in CPU Features how much i set?
    I set all at default, and after 45 second of linx avx 1 this is the result:
    the temps are very high and the tension is 1.35v sets from motherboard.
    Is the processor very unfortunally, Or is a motherboard problem?

    Corsair B600 + MSI Z87-G45 + MSI GTX 970 + Soundblaster-Z + Roccat Kave with Mic disconnected = Almost no noise, ifg you listen for it, really faint background noise in game. But well within my acceptable limits.
    Tomorrow I'll try:

    Corsair RM750 + Asus P5N32-E (onboard sound) + MSI GTX 970 + Roccat Kave with mic
    I failed to mention, that the first thing I did was to remove my HD Audio Front panel connector off its header.
    So I did some more searches. The noise has something to do with the capacitors on (presumably) the video card. The higher the pitch usually coincides with higher FPS. So the interference must be coming from the video card, as this is the last thing added and probably the main cause.
    Both the motherboard & the SoundBlaster-Z pick up the EMI/RF interference. (I am disappointed by the SoundBlaster about this).
    I'll test with the older motherboard and see how I proceed from there.

  • Msi z87-g45 gaming, no display, no beep.

    I am building a gaming computer. When i turn on my computer the cpu fan spins quickly then immediately slows down to a slow spinning state. My Boost audio light is on as well. But i get no display. I have tried the DVI HDMI and VGA outputs. I also accidentally pressed the cmos button while the compute was on. I also removed my mobo battery for 5 mins. Oh and on top of all that i dont have my standoffs. So maybe the board is short circuiting. But if that was the case my is my cpu fan remaining on as well as my boost audio light?

    Ultra 550w ATX Power Supply
    2 DDR3 in slots 2 and 4
    Cpu with no bent pins (that i can tell)

    Im having exactly the same problem did you manage to get it working in the end?
    The board has been tested by aria computing and came back fine they have also replaced the RAM and CPU incase they were the problem. Il list all the things Iv tried so far. Thing that gets me is there is no beep when I turn it on so something is wrong and im banging my head against the wall not being able to figure it out.
    Checked both power connections many many times
    Check for shorts
    Changed power supply
    Changed RAM (and tested in all configerations)
    Tested 3 monitors on all ports (onboard DVI, VGA and HDMI)
    Put 3 GPU's in it as well and tested all ports on them
    Tested on a low end CPU
    Tried out of case with just power leads and a monitor connected (no HD,USB,frount audio)
    Reset COSMOS and checked the battery

  • Slow power on b4 seeing MSI logo (MSI Z87-G43 GAMING)

    My question is, why it takes up to 10 seconds to power on before seeing the MSI logo.
    My rig boots in Windows 8.1 Pro UEFI mode with RAID, see summary of rig below.
    When booting it sometimes takes up to 10 seconds for the MSI screen to appear, the one with the MSI logo. Once the MSI logo appears the boot is fast, usually between 6 to 8 seconds.
    Total boot time around 16 seconds

    Yes, nothing suspicious there, everything loads perfectly. See result below.
    From the moment this is displayed, it takes just 6 seconds for Windows to be functional. However, it takes around 10 seconds before this appears on the display.
    To be clear, or at least for me to be clear, what you see in the screenshot is the BOOT and not the POST, during the actual POST (power on self-test), the user should not see anything on the display.
    Is that correct or have I got it wrong.

    ok so ,, the bug i got when I'm trying to launch the audio devices i wait like 2-3min...Until it runs
    It happens randomly
    Sometimes it opens very slowly, sometimes quickly, but it's even slower then restart your computer when u got the bug...
    i try to go back to first driver it not help...
    It happens whehn the two screens are connected to a computer
    When I restart it works out all fine Until ...
    And when the bug is back I can not detect even the sound of the other devices only the Sound output onboard card ,,,,
    it lose my lg Sound output tv every time u have to restart pc to fixed it...
    i try few amd drivers,,,, also not help...
    it happen on my old windows and the fresh i just install,,

    same problem here, I have a NuForce  USB DAC for my Computer, everytime i boot my computer, the output source shifted to  my LED Monitor{HDMI}, though I have set the DAC as default. I did not install the Sound Blaster Cinema software! what's wrong then?

    Hi!
    I have some issue from my new computer, see spec below.
    For the information I have a MSI Z87-G45 motherboard.
    I have some sound that occurs sometimes (specially during the first 2-5 minutes) when i move the mouse around.
    It occurs as well sometimes when I been using the computer for a while, basically random just more frequently at the start-up.
    It's hard to know from where the sound occurs, could be PSU but today I read something on another forum about the motherboard I'm using:
    - Higher sound quality using USB, thanks to special adapted current power.
    So i wounder if this can be the case? Is that the reason why i get this noise from inside the computer?
    Is there some way to disabled this "feature" in BIOS?

    The sound sounds like the old mechanics hdd kinda.
    It comes inside the computer, not the speakers.
    My feelings is that it can be the PSU as well, just wanted to check this first, since it most often comes when i move my mouse.

  • MSI Z87 G45 GAMING erratic BSOD/freeze @ 2300, stable @1600. Can't solve.

    Hi All,
    I would welcome some advice. I am about 4 months into a new machine build:
    * MSI Z87 G45 GAMING motherboard
    * i7-4770K Haswell 3.5 GHz & aftermarket heatpipe cooler
    * 4 x 4Gb G.Skill SNIPER DDR3-2133 PC3-1700  (F3-17000CL11D-8GBSR)
    * GeForce GTX 650 Ti  w/ 2 Gb Video RAM
    * Samsung 840 Pro 256 Gb SSD
    * Thermaltake 700W Toughpower
    * Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1
    The system seems to run fine at the default 1600 MHz RAM speed, however if I implement either of the X.M.P. profiles (which kick the memory speed up to the RAM's advertised  speed of 2133 MHz), the system will occasionally (every 8 to 48 hours) freeze or BSOD.  The BSOD stop codes are inconsistent in number (0x00, 0x41, 0x1E, 0xC4) and driver.  When the system freezes, there is no consistent behavior.  I am not doing any other overclocking besides using the X.M.P. profile in the memory. 
    RAM timing on the 2133 X.M.P. profile is: 11-11-11-30.
    I have updated the BIOS to 1.5, including the ME, and updated all drivers in the system.  All irrelevant hardware and drivers are disabled.  Also I have done the following:
    * MemTest+  5.01 for over 30 hours, all 4 sticks in.  No errors.
    * Intel BurnTest on 'Very High', 10 passes, no errors
    * Prime95 for over day with 90 C CPU temps constantly being hit.  No errors.
    * Unigine Valley Benchmark for 30 minutes; no issues
    I increased V_DRAM from 1.60V (from the XMP profile) to 1.65V, and I also added  +0.10V offset to increase the CPU I/O ANALOG , CPU I/O DIGITAL  and SYSTEM AGENT voltages.  Didn't seem to help.  All other CPU voltages are default from [auto].
    I rolled the memory speed back to the default 1600 MHz, and the system seems stable as a rock.
    I don't really need to have the memory run at 2133 MHz, but it irks me that the system is not stable with the rated components, and I'm befuddled why the stress tests seem to pass just fine, then the system will randomly hang with arguably a far less demanding load than the stress tests.
    Note that I have not yet:
    * reset the CMOS when changing to X.M.P.  Perhaps I should?
    * reseated the graphics card or CPU.  The latter will require R/R of the thermal grease, which I will do if needed, but it's a pain.  Since the system is stable at 1600 MHz, I assumed that all basic systems are working as they should.
    * Tried to work my way up in memory speed step by stem from 1600 to 2133 to see where things fall apart.
    * Tested the video memory
    I suspect main system memory, despite the clean bill of health from MemTest, and based on many of the comments to others with similar problems from the veterans on this board.   I don't want to push the CPU voltages too much above the default/auto values, for fear of damage and reduced lifetime.
    Also, the power supply is a nice unit from an older high-end gaming rig. It is rated at 700W.  The PS does probably have over 30,000 hours on it (24/7 use for 3-4 years), however.  Strange that it would work at 1600 MHz fine, and with only slightly more power load at 2133.  I suppose stranger things have happened. 
    I've read the suggestions to run only 2 sticks, rather than 4, but I can't justify dropping $140 on new memory (I don't really need the extra speed benefit, it's more curiosity and just not knowing at this point).
    Anyway, perhaps more seasoned souls than I can share their thoughts.  The system is perfectly usable at 1600, but I'd really like to know where the lockups are stemming from.  Troubleshooting is maddening because of the inconsistency in the long times before failure and lack of repeatability to reproduce the issue.

    Turns out I also found this from G.SKILL in going over reviews of the memory modules I have.  Another user had a similar configuration as mine and was having similar problems.  G.SKILL replied:

    Not knowing any better, I simply purchased two "kits" of 2x4 GB each and installed them.  Perhaps worse, if the modules were matched, I may well have mixed them up so the matched modules don't even sit in the same channels 1/3 or 2/4.  G.SKILL seems to have a pretty responsive board, so I'll ask them what they suggest.
    Also in the end, I really just want a stable machine. This is a basically an office/engineering machine.  My initial thinking was that if the system was unstable at 2133 then there is something wrong with it that needs to be fixed.  It sounds instead like getting to 2133 is not guaranteed, and is much more of an art than simply throwing the modules in and powering up the system.
    I'm perfectly happy at 1600 knowing the system is stable.  Indeed realizing now that 2133 requires overclocking, I may well have backed off to 1600 even if everything had worked just fine at 2300, just to trade extra stability for the (small) performance improvement that I would likely never notice anyway.
    I'll put together a post for the G.SKILL forums, and if I get anything useful I'll post what I learn here for completeness.

    Some time ago i bought the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming motherboard and every now and then try to enable OC Genie.
    Every time i do this the pc gets a BSOD.

  • MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming EIST is not working

    Hi all, my EIST is not working properly, the CPU clock run between 3.7-3.9 all the time (VID 1.153 - 1.219)
    Here is my setup:
    Motherboard and CPU: MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming + 4770K
    OS: Clean installed Win 7 SP1 with most updated driver from MSI site.
    Bios version: 1.2 (All default settings)
    Actually the EIST works before without installing driver ME and chipset driver from MSI site, any advices?

      to DougQuaid tip.
    Allso if you have OC your system, you need to set Ratio mode to Dynamic and voltage mode to Adaptive.
    Like in this picture of my BIOS settings. I marked those with yellow.
    Warning: After that you shouldent stress test your CPU anymore with Prime95, Occt, or so on programs. Because they could get the MB give too much power to CPU 
    I just tested those (ME and Chipset) files from MSI and still get my clock and voltage down normaly.
    There seams to be new official relice of BIOS 1.3v there too, so you could try that. if yours cot some bug in it.
    Also make sure on task manager that your pc isnt doing anything under. Like live Spybot/virus/... -Scans.
