  • MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard Booting Windows 7 Trouble

Hi guys, today I bought the MSI Z87-GD65 Mobo, 2 Sticks of 4GB RAM and the Intel i7 4770. I bought these to upgrade my old system and the only other parts im using is my Nvidia GTX570, PSU and my 2TB Seagate HDD.
Everything hardware works normal, no abnormal signs.
My problem is when it boots up, it says "find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /win7ldr. Error 15: File not found"
I've tried using my windows 7 disc and it says all my stuff is still there and the startup troubleshooter doesn't find any issues. I tried putting my RAM in properly and its in nicely. (they are in the 3rd and 4th slot though) My power is fine, its just the BIOS isn't booting it =(
    -The BIOS is updated
    -No Hardware faults
Note: when i press any key to continue, it comes up with GRUB4DOS and has options like: "Windows 7 with SLIC Loader (Default)"
Please help me if you know anything!

Its a fresh install of Windows 7, i had to do it to fix my original problem =/
Update: I changed the RAM and put them in the slots u suggested, no change.
Sorry, when i post my last anser, i didnt know your new problem
Sounds like old problem from time of XP to Vista.
Firsth. Take out that USB connection of your headset from PC.
Secend. Uninstall any driver that headset (or you) may have installed to your OS.
    Third. Run registercleaner program.
Fourth. Shotdown PC and then start again (dont just reboot!)
Fifth. Download and/or Install drivers for that USB headset.
    Sixth. Reboot that PC.
    Seventh. Insert that USB connection.
I hope this helps! Cheers, Mummy
If not i would try to ubdate intel chipset drivers(if MSI ones dont work, i would go to Intel site and try them from there) and if those dont help then another reinstall of OS and member to inser USB device after installing drivers for the device.

    You have 3 PCI-E x16 slots (x8-x4-x4) and 4 PCI-E x1 slots.
On the other hand, your CPU is limited to 16 PCI-E lanes.
Those 3 x RB44Ge routers are PCI-E x4, so you're going to use ALL the PCI-E x16 slots for them.
With the remaining PCI-E lanes you need to be lucky ...

  • Msi Z87-GD65 Booting Failure With eSATA Drives

    Hi Folks,
Before I go down the (probably ill-fated) Customer Service path I thought I'd address the forum here on a little problem I'm having with my Z87-GD65.
IN essence, if I have a hard drive connected to my eSATA port the PC won't boot.  I'm using an ICYDOCK 4 bay external enclosure (MB561US-4SB if interested).  If the drive itself is on but the HD trays are ejected then it boots.  If any of the drives are secured then it'll hang at a post-BIOS/pre-Windows screen where all I get is a blinking cursor for about 30 seconds and then it disappears to a plain black screen.  If the device is powered off then it boots.
I've checked the BIOS with one of the HDs running and it doesn't appear within my boot list - in fact, except for one selection in the bios allowing me to disable eSATA there really isn't much I can do there.
I've upgraded my BIOS to 1.30 from 1.00 and the process seems to move a bit further - now I get the oh-so-pretty ugly Windows logo and that's all.
When I do actually boot the PC with the ICYDOCK off then I'm able to get into Windows normally, and turn on the ICYDOCK.  After a few seconds all 4 hard drives report in and everything's fine.
I've been using this ICYDOCK for about  a year and a half, with 2 other motherboards (neither were an MSI) and i7 cores, and neither of them caused me any issues.  I remember that neither of those boards had the port multiplier eSATA capability so I had to buy a controller card with that capability.  I could probably dig that up and see if the problem remains.
In case you're wondering, if it helps, I built a Msi Z87-GD65/4770 i7 - based PC with 2 internal 2TB Hard Drives, and 16gb RAM.  I already mentioned the ICYDOCK.  I used LiveUpdate to install all the latest drivers & BIOS before uninstalling it.
I build & repair PCs for a living so I'm pretty familiar with what's going on with the system.  I figure that there must be something happening between the BIOS and Windows "handoff" of the ICYDOCK, but I'm damned if I can figure out just what.

More information please. PSU, OS being used, etc..
    Live Update is best uninstalled. Flash UEFI/BIOS the safer way;

Recommend to download drivers and utilities from the MSI Websites and install manually.

  • MSI Z87-GD65, Freezing while gaming, then reboot loop/bsod/total failure.

    Hey fellow MSI'ers
Im hoping to find a solution for my problem i have been getting. I build a custom gaming rig a few months ago (specs below)
Sinds a couple of days iv been getting wierd problems, System runs fine, i can do everything watch movies do work stuff. But when i start gaming it will work great for about 15-30 minutes, then i hear a click/beep thru the sound system, and a total pc freeze, screen freezes nothing works.
So i hit the reboot, then the system decides to turn itself off and get into a reboot loop, turning on for few seconds then turning off again for a few back on for a few, etc etc.
Only way i can get it running is pull the power, make sure the Motherboard has no charge left, then wait a bit and replug the power. Most times it will boot up fine and story starts at part 1 again.
First off i thought it would be temperature, tho im running a almoost ull watercooled system, (Ramm + cpu + video) and i put up temp controlls on my seconds screen, and they never got above 35, on any of the components.
Now seeing my build it is extreemley hard to quickly test a diffirent component, been running memtest with no problems, But when i do graphx/cpu stresstest/benchmark i get the same issue.
As i stated before it has been running perfectly for few months.
I read that PSU might be a problem, compatability wise with Haswell, tho then it wouldnt have worked for so long and just now giving these strange problems.
    What i tryéd so far:
    -Reinstall windows
    -Flash bios
    -clear bios
    -unplug as much as possible
    -diffirent ramm
-Running with or without crossfire enabled.
All same problems, i hope somebody has a idea without having to pull apart my custom build.
    Specs:
    -Cooler Master HAF XB
    -Intel Haswell 4770k
    -MSI Z87-GD65
    -2x Asus 7970 in Crossfire.
    -Corsair Dominator GT 2x4gb

    Hi again,

UPDATE: Been running bencharmks/stresstest from onboard graphix, both cards disconnected. (lots of towels to be sure) and runs without problems, tho reallo low fps but thats expected.
Going to see if i can run 1 card at a time, see if i can cause the problem to happen again.
So did you agtually try it?
Yep, bleeding is nice job and dooing it right on all steps is needed so yeah great, but if your CPU can handel the stress and you have tested the PSU then i cant see other way.
Tip: take the hard loop, pipe, bridge(betwean the blocks away and add two 90angle fittings with long tobe, so you can rest each card away the pc 1 at time that way you dont need to bleed the system bitwean.
(allso rest of the toops needs to be so long that it can be far away...)
And yes you need reg edit your SATA drivers like xmad sayd, if you like to change IDE to RAID.
P.s. nice build! Hope you get it working
Edit: You dont need to insert that PSU in the case, just connect wires whrere they need to be, at the momen for testing.
Edit2: My current needs little service and update( add backplate, water change, delid cpu and moving GPU to bottom slot).
Edit3: Wait that one 120mm low Rad keeps your sytem 32c??? Damn you have great chips, cold house or software issue. need for delid main is the heat i dont like and i have hmm 10 times that space to get heat off :D

  • MSI Z87-GD65 System. Slower Download speeds since upgrade.

I've recently upgraded my PC to an MSI Z87-GD65/i5-4670K based system from an Core 2 Quad, Win 7 64x setup.
I use Usenet frequently and since upgrading i seem to have lost around 1000KB/s in download speed when maxing out my line.
Before, i used to get around 9140KB/s max download using the onboard lan port on a Gigabyte P45 based motherboard. Port on old board was a Realtek 8111C Gigabyte chip.
Now i get around 8200KB/s max download using the onboard lan port on my MSI Z87-GD65 motherboard which is the Killer E2205 chip.
I'm using the latest Lan drivers for my chip and have tried older ones but come up with the same result.
Is there an obvious reason behind this speed loss? What i'm wondering is does Windows 8.1 constantly use the network to keep the app tiles updated and if so would it account for 1000KB/s of missing speed. If so, is there a way of stopping it using the network when I'm downloading stuff?
I don't think the speed difference is due to the different chipsets because i get the same speeds using various speed tests that i did before. Also i know its not a massive amount of speed loss (it's equivalent to 8Mbps) but its annoying me.
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.
    My specs are as follows:-
    i5-4670k
    MSI Z87- GD65
    16gb Crucial Elite 1866 using X.M.P
    250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD
    MSI GTX770 2GB
    Corsair HX850w PSU
    Windows 8.1 Pro
I have no Wifi card or software installed so i'm just using the onboard ethernet.
Current download speeds shown in Speedtest.net is 74 Down 19 Up, however the Usenet speed i'm getting is around 64 Down (8200KB/s). Difference of 10Mbps. Ive checked settings on the Usenet provider side and they are correct.

  • MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming and msata speed issue...

    Hi,
So I'm running the MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming with a 128GB SanDisk msata. Now it all works perfectly; no BSOD or crashes, but what I have noticed is that sometimes when the PC boots and I look in Intel Rapid Storage Technology, the msata on port 5 is running at 3Gb/s not 6Gb/s: I verified the speed loss using AS SSD benchmark. Reboot and it's back to 6Gb/s and back to full speed.
Anyone else seen this or have an idea of a solution?
    Thanks

    Quote from: JLio01 on 06-March-15, 14:21:58
How often can you notice the problem? You mentioned AS SSD Benchmark has speed loss, what's the result of speed test then?
I notice it a couple of times a day minimum

  • MSI z87 gd65 no post, no code

    Hello,
I got this problem with my msi z87 gd65 mobo. It doesn't want to post (no screen or whatsoever). It doesn't give any debug code. And it only starts up when i hold down the start button. I used a 2nd psu as the psu is the problem most of the time but that didn't fix it. Also the no debug code makes me worry about it. I did recet the cmos with the reset cmos button, and that didn't fix it. also no overclocks.

  • MSI Z87 GD65 Crashing/Freezing/No Monitor Signal

So the other night I was playing WoW for a few hours... When I woke back up and turned my computer on it booted up... The fans kicked on/keyboard and mouse lite up and the screen said no signal. I shut it down pulled the power for awhile then booted back up. Then booted it back up and everything was fine when I opened wow and logged in 2 second later the computer rebooted it self. When rebooting the computer the screen said lost signal to the monitor again and the only way to get that back on is by pulling the power cable.... It would also freeze time to time....Now the computer wont even show the screen... What is faulty? MB/Graphics card? Im using MSI Z87 GD65 MB and the MSI 770 Twin Forzr 2gb.
    Things I tried
    Reformatting
    Resitting Graphics Card/Ram
Switching Graphics Card on a different slot
    Different driver
    Canned air for cleaning

I tried clearing the CMOS, the graphics card fans are running but not sending signal to the monitor, I took it out and using on board... that works fine... Im trying to figure whats the problem is before I go purchase the new part.

I tested amd drivers 13.10v2 and does not work, I tested with the older  amd drivers 13.4 official and does not recognize the second card.
Tested one by one each both graphical works fine.
I have the crossfire bridge connected.
I must change something in the bios? To recognize the second card? what ?

    Hi everybody,
I tested one at a time in the pci-e 2 and works.
And do the same on Pci-e nº1. works fine the 2 card.
"Several possibles. If testing a card by itself in the second slot does not work, then either there is a problem with an errant standoff or other item shorting underneath the mainboard. The other most common reason is CPU socket pin(s) bent or damaged or the CPU cooler mouinted incorrectly or unevenly torqued.
I don´t  believe it the pins because if you look at the GPU-Z recognizes the two cards.
And appears on device manager the to cards.
I am using SO w7 ultimate, and the board bios is the last version.
Is something else must be some setting in bios, and i don´t no...

  • Flashing of MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING failed and dual bios not helping, not sure why?

    Hi all
For the first time in 20 years Ive had a firmware flash fail it seems.
I have a MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING and updated the bios with the latest firmware via the "M-FLASH" utility within the systems bios.
All seemed to have gone well, it flashed to 100% rebooted and then just a blank screen and a sequence of keyboard light flashes.
After a minutes panic I thought not to worry, the motherboard has a dual bios.   So I powered down and switched the bios switch to bios B hoping it would assist and the problem is identical.
    Any tips anyone?

I just tried this along with removing power from the main board and it seems one of the two did it!   thanks

Start upping your voltage, my chip needs [email protected] and for stability at 4.4 it needs 1.38.
Those guys on YouTube definitely got a better chip
Once you get enough voltage to boot into windows without bsod start stability testing. Make sure to set volts to override

i am using MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING board with intel core i7-4770K
it should allow me to adjust turbo ratio/core ratio limit in the bios @ cpu features menu. already update to V1.2 bios.
unfortunately that menu is set to read-only "Auto". it makes me looks like using 4770 NON-K CPU!

hahaha. no need to use exclamation mark, bro.
ok done. it is because i am confuse with some value with [Auto] and some with Auto without []
for the information, i only managed to get 44x for the 1-core ratio. if more than that, it will go to bluescreen when booting.
any idea how to solve that problem? like asus motherboard, it has PLL overvoltage to overcome ratio more than 45/46.
how about MSI? its my 1st time using MSI motherboard for the i7 family.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 DRAM & DIMM Voltage Readings

    Hello everyone.
    My spec is:
    i7 4770K @ stock for now
    MSI z87 GD65
    G-skill RipjawsX 1866 Mhz
My question is; I'm using 2 softwares for monitoring stuff. One is HWMonitor and the other is HWInfo64. And I've found something confusing lately. In HWMonitor, it shows my DRAM Voltage @ 1.48v but in HWInfo, it shows my DIMM Voltage @ 1.69v. BIOS shows it's @ 1.488v but most of the stuff is set to auto and I never be sure what's going on there. So I'm kinda confused since I'm only using the XMP Profile 2 and it should be around 1.5v. But with HWInfo showing it @ 1.69v I want to know if something is wrong or not. Any suggestions?

Quote from: Sea Dog on 17-January-14, 04:43:15
What does HWInfo64 show for DRAM V. when XMP is disabled and the RAM is running default? There could be a programming issue with the SPD/XMP profile reading of the software and/or the way the BIOS is reading the RAM's profiles. Sometimes these anomalies can be rectified with a UEFI/BIOS compatibility revision. The RAM brand is well known for SPD profile problems on a number of  different mainboard brands.
HWInfo64 still shows 1.696 with XMP is disabled and the ram is running 1600mhz.
HWMonitor on the other hand shows it @ 1.48v even with XMP is enabled.
