MSI Z87 MPower MAX vs MSI Z87 MPower - Differences?

Hey MSI Mods / Techs, can you confirm this is correct for me please? Thanks.
MAX-Version has 20 Digital Phase (600W+ CPU Power), Non-Max version has 16 Digital Phase (480W+ CPU Power)
The MAX version includes a display port, but the non-MAX version has TPM/Bitlocker, not sure if that's a typing error though on the MSI website. Also the MAX has 1 x USB 3.0 Bracket

Quote from: asdf1221 on 05-June-13, 18:48:21
The boards have the same features except from the increased number of phases and the extra USB 3 header on the MAX version.
The MAX version also has different circuit layout (not quite important) and extra audio filtering on the sound front header (see those 2 capacitors next to the header?). If you use the front header for audio output (headphones and such) then it's a plus.
Thanks, for the sake of £20 people may as well opt for the MAX version, unless money is tight.
From the looks of the BIOS, it seems this time MSI have implemented voltage offset, as well as the usual Vdroop offset, good to see.

  • MSI z87 MPOWER MAX Compatibility Question

Hi I own the z87 MPOWER MAX motherboard and have recently been receiving blue screens while playing games ~10mins in.
Not sure what the problem is at this point, but I had a look through the VGA Support and Memory support sections as stated on the support section of MSI's page
And have found that my graphics card (GTX 590) and my RAM Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9 isnt on the list. Would this be an issue?
    Please let me know,
    Thanks!

Both components should work fine considering compatibility. What other components are in use? >>Posting Guide<<
Thanks for the reply, I figured out the problem. A friend of mine installed League of Legends on my computer and it installed some drivers which ive uninstalled and it seems to have solved the problem.
Sorry for not abiding by the posting guide, just needed a simple yes or no as to the compatability of my parts with my mobo.
    Thanks for your help!

  • MSI Z87 Mpower MAX Internet Issue

    Hello guys!
About a week ago Ive got the MSI z87 Mpower MAX for my new build.
However, I had some stranges issues with my internet rooter. He restart almost every hour, aleatory!!!!! Only with this pc (I have another one and it works fine)
So, I changed the rooter for a brand new one, and the same problem persist, only with the mpower max... Its not always, but 7-10 times in day my rooter restart if its plugged on my mobo.
Idk where start to solve this...
Im using the Windows 8 Pro version, with Avira Internet Security.
    Can anyone help me? :(

I deleted your double post. Don't try again with multiple topics on your issue: >>Please read and comply with the Forum Rules.<<
Also it is obviously impossible to help you with just the board model and the info that you have an "issue"... Add full specs and proper description of the issue:  Follow >>Posting Guide<<

  • Msi Z87 Mpower Max

I was wonder how many RAM slots does the Msi Z87 Mpower Max Motherboard hold? Can it hold all this? CMD64GX3M8A2400C10/Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB (8 x 8GB) DDR3-2400

there are a few that can do that!
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X79A-GD45-Plus.html
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X79A-GD65--8D-.html
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Big-Bang-XPower-II.html
just depends on your budget and how you will use it to what board is best suited (X79A-GD65 is the best all round) all the boards Supports eight unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2133*/2400* (OC) DRAM, 128GB Max (max of 64GB as it needs non ECC type RAM so support 8x8GB Dimms for 64GB total!)
if the board is made after September 2013 it will support that CPU out the box so if you buy one see if the vendor will give you the serial number and we will be able to tell you if its going to support it out the box!

  • MSI Z87 MPower Max won't start

Hello everyone and sorry to bother you but I don't know what to do anymore.
I bought a MSI Z87 MPower Max and yesterday I tried to start but there is no signal of life. No sounds and no fans. The only signal is the power led on the motherboard.
Another strange thing is when I press to long (about 5 seconds) in the power button the clr_cmos led turn on.
I have already checked the psu cables, if the cpu is corrected placed and with only one stick of RAM in the slot number 2.
I always press the clr_cmos between new tries and this night in take of the motherboard batery and left out over night.
If anyone can help me I will be grateful because I don't know what to do anymore

  • Is My MSI Z87 MPower MAX Safe?

    Hi everyone!
May I ask is my MSI Z87 MPower Max safe?
    Intel 4770K - Idle = 45 Degrees Celceius / Open For Long Time = 53 Degrees Celceius
MSI Z87 MPower Max = 42 Degree Celceius
    Core 0 - 3 and Package - Idle = 40 Degress Celceius / Open For Long Time = 48 Degrees Celceius
May I know is that safe and normal? because I got the Noctua NH-D14 heatsink fan.
    Thank you!

    its safe!
for 4GHz CPU frequancy that temp is all good if it tops out below 75C when its under maximum load when you get around to testing it then its all good and you have nothing to worry about!
so try intel burn test till it hits maximum temp it runs at and see how hot it gets (remember any temp under 100C is safe but the lower the temp is under that the better!)
so get the cpu a maximum sustained load to see how high its  temps go to and report back to us but it looks fine so far and maximum temp is the most important metric to have (idle and light load temps say very little as they sound totally fine so far)

  • Msi z87 mpower max overclocking

Hi , just bought a msi z87 mpower max 4770k , is there any guide to overclock to 4.4ghz 24/7 ? Thanks

If you are still crashing at 4.3 you may want to try clear CMOS button and then try using the OC Genie. There is a switch you can flip up next to the onboard button which throws a red LED. The OC will be 4.2 and you don't have to mess with anything. Probably won't be noticeable difference from 4.3 but you may notice less blue screen.
Ive been running at 4.5 stable 24/7 on manual OC until this weekend while Beta testing a game I started having all kinds of problems. The issues were probably on the game end I think related to dual monitor and borderless windowed mode, however I removed 2 mem sticks to 16G and reset CMOS and used OC genie. I can not retry the game until the weekend but this setup will run AIDA64 system test overnight with temps bouncing between 50-70 with all 4 cores at constant 100%. I could not get the system to stay stable in AIDA64 @4.4- 4.5- 4.6 although it would be stable for gaming and everyday use. I like OC manually but the button is so convenient for a non hassle. Benchmark score in the game(FFXIV) also went up from ~8000 to 8600 at 4.2. Probably due to taking GPU out of SLI(not supported by game yet).

  • MSI MPOWER MAX Z87 - RAID failure after BIOS update (settings reset)

I use the integrated intel RAID controller to create a 2 disk RAID-0 6TB (2x3TB), but everytime I update the BIOS, there is a RAID failure.
It does not matter if I use Live Update or the Update BIOS+ME option of the BIOS menu. All settings are lost, and after the boot the RAID controller is deactivated due to that. I go to BIOS right after the auto-reboot and re-enter my settings (RAID instead of AHCI), but the intel controller only sees 1 disk as a RAID member. Recovery option is not active when I enter the controller options (control+I). I always need to delete and recreate the RAID, which of course loses all data.
    Very frustrating!
Am I doing the update wrong? I know I did it once and settings were not reset, my RAID was kept intact, but I believe it was only 1 time of 4 or 5 updates I did to my MPOWER MAX.

Hi, thanks for trying to help!
    - I use Windows 8.1.
    - My vga does not support UEFI so I use... legacy mode? (I'm not that familiar with BIOS->UEFI yet, sorry.)
    - According to Intel RST, the RAID HDDs are on ports 2 and 3.
    - This time the update was from 1.80 to 1.90.
1.70 to 1.80 also resulted in the same problem, but I used LiveUpdate.
For previous updates, I don't remember but I sometimes I used LiveUpdate, sometimes the BIOS feature.
I'm pretty sure that only once the RAID was kept intact, and I don't remember the versions or method I used, but I believe I used the BIOS method (don't know if needed BIOS+ME or not), not LiveUpdate.

  • PCI-e wireless card causes lock ups Z87 MPower MAX

I've already asked this question once, but was part of an epic essay that I've decided to break down into smaller more manageable chunks (as unsurprisingly that one got no replies).
I've got an ASUS PCE-A66 wireless ac pci-e card. Had absolutely no issues with it in my old Z77 board, but I seem to be having a lot of issues with it in my new Z87 MPower MAX. System was locking up like mad when I was trying to install the drivers at first. Had to rip out the WiFi/Bluetooth/WiDi module to get the drivers installed but the system randomly hangs on boot up? Don't get the issues with the card unplugged and don't always get it with it plugged in, but there seems to be some form of conflict with it that I can't resolve. Has anyone else had any such issues with any PCI-e add in cards on this motherboard?
    Specs are:
    i7 4770k
MSI MPower MAX using .128 bios (will try the .131 later)
    2x4GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400
    Coolermaster Silent Pro Hybrid 1050w
EVGA NVidia GTX 780 SC ACX
    Windows 8 Pro 64bit

Yes, old system was Win8 Pro 64 bit too and the drivers are Windows 8 certified. As I say though, I had no issues with it on the old build? Even got a replacement sent out by Amazon in case the card itself was damaged  Did initially try to do a warm update of the hardware into the same OS installation but didn't play well so did a full re-install in the end. Tried standard and UEFI installs (just in case) and after a problem with my OCZ Vector 2 not being recognised I bought a new Samsung 840 Pro so was a virgin SSD installed on to as well.
I'll raise it directly with MSI but just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced anything similar with any wireless cards in this mobo.
    Cheers for the reply though

  • Unboxing MSI Z97 Mpower Max AC Overclocking Motherboard

Intel Z97 chipset based motherboards is already out and I’m glad that Intel decided it to make the CPU socket the same LGA 1150 as before. Backward compatibility for the current CPUs and at the same time will have support for the upcoming Haswell Refresh and Broadwell (14nm) processors. More importantly, the chipset has three new features and these are:
•SATA Express – PCIe M.2 support. Can deliver data speeds up to 10Gb/s
•Boot Guard – serves as a shield against low-level malware attacks using Intel device protection system
•Upgraded Intel Smart Response and Raid start technologies. Now with Dynamic Cache Sharing
Few? yes, but don’t get disappointed about it yet, as I heard that the Z97 will be good at high memory frequencies and has better CPU overclocking.
That’s it for the review and thank you … just kidding hehehe. The main gist of this short review is on MSI’s Z97 MPower Max AC and it’s such a good looking motherboard. It has new features, heat sink design and OC essential tools which will be further discussed later on. Before that, let us take a look at the packaging first.
Black and Yellow ~~black and yellow…box is same as the Z87 Mpower Max before except for the OC Series logo design.
Flipping the front cover will give you some short info on Military Class 4 components (Hi-c Cap, Dark Cap, SFC, OC PCB), Guard-Pro (Circuit Protection, Humidity Protection, High Temperature Protection, ESD Protection, EMI Protection & Eco Power), OC Essentials (tools for overclocking), Enhanced Thermal Solution, Enhanced Power and Enhanced BIOS. Then to your right is a clear plastic window which will give you a sneak peek on the actual unit. Drools…
The Z97 Mpower Max AC is OC certified as it passed the Prime95 24-hour burn-in stress test with a liquid-cooled overclocked CPU.  This is to ensure the board’s overclocking stability.
I/O overview is also shown here and Intel’s Wi-Fi AC module.

What you will notice right away is the new water cooling heat sink for the VRM area. Enthusiasts will like this very much as they don’t have to worry on buying water blocks for this section. But even on stock, the heat sink is efficient to cool down the VRM chips. It is composed of heat pipe and ceramic materials.
PCB is matte black and is using dark solid capacitors. Layout is clean and organized especially on the area of the multi graphics card slots. OC button tools are placed on the upper right area of the board for easy access. The 8pin and 4pin power connectors on the upper left area are used to supply power to the CPU and it also helps achieve higher overclock potential and stability to the processor.
MSI also included an integrated Clock Generator chip called OC Engine (located below the CPU socket). Having this will support more BCLK adjustments from 100 / 125 / 167 MHz straps. The more flexible the strap is, the more doors for maximum OC potential.
12Phase DigitAll power design. Powerful enough to break OC world records and dominate benchmarks.
You also have the Military Class 4 components SFC chokes and Hi-c caps surrounding the CPU socket.
On the area in between the two heat sinks connected by a heat pipe is an additional 6pin power. It provides more juice and stability in multi-graphics card configuration.
The first two buttons on the left are the Base Clock Control Buttons. These buttons are used to increase or decrease the base clock frequency in real-time. At the bottom, you have the Discharge button and it allows you to fully discharge the motherboard and even removes information from the Z97 PCH. Next you have the Reset and Power buttons and lastly the most valuable button of them all – OC Genie for auto overclock.
To the farthest right is a switch. This is the OC Genie Mode switch which provides two overclocking modes. First mode is the Gear 1, the default automatic overclocking setting while Gear 2 is a higher auto overclock tweak than Gear 1. This goes hand in hand with the OC Genie Button.
V-Check Points is now version 2 with 2 extra ground connectors, allowing overclockers to use 3 multi-meters at the same time. You can check the VCCIN, DDR, Core,IGP, Ring Bus and System Agent voltage on the fly.
Audio Boost is also been upgraded. It has Dual Amps now and is using better Nippon Chemi-con filtering capacitors.
Here comes one of the major features of having Z97 chipset based motherboard, SATA Express. M.2 slot transfers data through a PCI Express 2.0 x2 interface which can reach up to 10 Gb/s speed. That is 67% much faster than your regular SATA 3 solutions.
Two more switches are to be found at the bottom of the board. First one is the Multi-BIOS Switch. This model has two built-in BIOS ROMs labeled as A and B (Default is BIOS ROM A). If one crashed, you can shift to the other for booting or perhaps use the other one for test purpose of new BIOS available in the net.  You can also use this feature to fix corrupted BIOS. Next switch is the Slow Mode Booting and mostly used during LN2 or extreme overclocking situations.  What it does is it will temporary decrease the CPU Ratio to 8x and after successfully booting to Windows you can flick the switch back again to apply your high overclock frequency settings.
Done with the switches and now for the small black button called Go2BIOS. Pressing this button before turning on your computer or right after a system restart, will go straight to your board’s BIOS.
The ever reliable Debug Code LED indicator is available in this model. This can be used greatly for troubleshooting boot up and hardware problems. Check out the User Manual Guide for the corresponding POST Code errors.
SATA ports 8 and 7 on the left are controlled by ASMedia ASM1061 while the rest are from the Intel Z97 chipset.  There also 2x USB 3.0 internal headers available and also controlled by Intel Z97.
    •PS2 Combo Port
    •2x USB 2.0
    •Empty space for Intel’s WIFI/Bluetooth AC Module
    •6x USB 3.0 by ASMedia ASM1074
•1x Intel I218-V Gigabit LAN Controller
    •1x S/PDIF Audio Output by Realtek ALC1150
    •1x HDMI Port
    •1x DisplayPort
    •2x USB 3.0 by ASMedia ASM1042
•6x Analog Gold Plated Audio Ports by Realtek ALC1150
This is it for now and I don’t still have the right parts to run the motherboard to its max potential. I will update you guys as soon as I get my hands on the stuff I needed. Benchmarks and overclocking results will be made.
    Long live MSI OC Series!!!

It is interesting MSI chose not to incorporate dedicated SATA Express port(s). Some manufacturers even incorporated that on it's Z87's.

If Intel didn't increase the useable RAM bandwidth with Devil's Canyon, those higher RAM frequencies are going to do nothing! With a VRM still in the CPU, even with the improved TIM, it remains to be seen how much of a better OC'er Devil's Canyon will be on conventional cooling solutions. Anything above Z97 Gaming 7 or 9 is kind of overkill for an average non exotic cooling pc user. If anything like the Z87 Power Max I got to work with, most of those OC settings on these class boards was a total waste. Z97 better OC'er for normal users? Time will tell.

  • Z87 Mpower Max Wifi Problem

    Hey!
So I recently built this new PC:
CPU: I7 4770k || GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming 4GB || Mobo: MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX || RAM: Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 2x 8GB || SSD: Samsung 840 PRO Series 256GB || Chassi: Cooler Master HAF XM Midi Tower || CPU-cooler: Noctua NH-D14 || PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 720W || OS: Windows 7 Ultimate || HDD: WD Desktop Green 2 TB | SAMSUNG SpinPoint 160 GB | HITACHI 250 GB
I'm happy with everything except the Wifi connection... I've been googling and searching on forums without any help so now I'm hoping someone know how to fix this problem...
I got a low connection to the router and it's terribly slow (the router is a WNR2000v2 but I've never had problems with it earlier and I get the same result with other routers). Basically, I get about 20Mbit/s with cable and the wifi from my laptop (HP ProBook 6560b with "Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n ") and the laptop can stand right next to my desktop PC and get 5/5 in connection vs MSI Mpower Max Wifi (Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230) which only get 3/5 in the same distance. I've tried all kinds of placements for the antennas without and improvement. BUT, my problem is that instead of getting 20Mbit/s I only get up to 5Mbit/s. Now... I run the latest drivers from MSI's Mpower Max webpage and I run the latest BIOS (Version E7815IMS V1.3), but I cannot find a solution.
    Thanks in advance...
    Sincerely,
    Dexter
    (Excuse my poor English)

I think you should go through some Windows settings. Also try to configure router (this might be the problem).

Since yesterday i have the following problem with my pc.
i'm using a gigabyte gtx780 windforce 3x oc als peg and for now its not working anymore. if i am turning on the computer only the fans are working and video display is only possible through the igd, even when its deactivated in bios. all other components seem to work normal, but led debug code ist showing 04 which means "power on southbridge initialization".
so i changed the gtx 780 to my old msi gtx570 twin frozr III and everything seems to work normal for now, but if i am looking into the device manager there's an exclamation mark indicating that the msi mpower max z87 isn't recognized properly and only shown as unknown device.
so, what does that mean? is there a problem with the psu, mb or the gtx780
    my system specs are:
    Core i7 4770k
MSI Mpower Max Z87 Bios V.1.2
Gigabyte Geforce GTX780 Windforce 3x OC
16 GB Corsair Vengeance 2133 Mhz

Edit: The exclamation mark problem disappeared after installing the intel smart connect utility.

Reseat the cpu and check socket for bent pins. If none to be found uninstall current vga driver in safemode using >>Driver Fusion<<. After reboot with the GTX570 install latest Nvidia driver (no beta!).
reseated cpu and found some bent pins. rebent them with precision tools, and for now, everything, even the gtx780, seems to work normal. will try some decent oc to check if there are any problems left because of the bent cpu pins.

  • Z87 MPOWER MAX problems?

    Hey all,
Alright, so I installed a new motherboard, the Z87 MPower MAX, a new CPU (i7-4770k @3.5Ghz). So far, not so good. Basically, once I installed it, windows loaded up and instantaneously my system was monumentally slower than before, I used to have a Rampage IV Formula and an i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E process running at 3.6Ghz. It lags when I drag windows around a huge amount, it took over and two hours to install the drivers from the CD's (not including the crashing which occured whilst trying to do so, program crashing, not PC). My Graphics cards ARE DETECTED BY WINDOWS. But my drivers are not. Also, when I try to run catalyst control centre, it tells me there is nothing to use it so it doesn't start and when I try to install new drivers, the catalyst software gets hung up on detecting graphics hardware and never gets past it. I have a program called speccy which usually detects my hardware very quickly but also gets stuck analysing and doesn't pick up anything, not to mention the Windows Experience Index won't run properly to due an error to do with "System/ Drivers/ blah blah blah.." Ugh...Not having fun and I have no support from Microsoft as I am an OEM user.
    System specs are:
    Motherboard: MSI MPower MAX
    Processor: Intel core i7-4770K @3.5Ghz
GPU: TWO AMD R9 290X Cards running in Crossfire
    PSU: 1200W Crosair 80+ Gold
    RAM: 16Gb Ripjaw-z 2133Mhz DDR3 RAM
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
This is primarily a gaming / photoshop system so I really need this to start running smoothly, any advice is greatly appreciated!!!!

For rendering, graphics design, audio creation, X79 was and is superior. Be that as it may, is the OS a fresh Install? If not, that is the problem.
