Msi z87m-g43 and Nvidia SLI

I called tech support before i purchased another GTX 660 and was told that this even though it states "Crossfire" ready, would still work with SLI. Both GPU's are recognized but I cannot get SLI enabled. changed cable cable with another... searched allot of forums for answers and it seems  that it's a MB compatibility issue.
Running Win 8.1, I5 4460, 16gb ram.
appreciate any input

badboy2k is right, that guy from tech support is wrong.
SLI works in x16/x16 or x8/x8 only.
It does NOT work if a card is running in x4.

If it does, they will be in the UEFI/BIOS OC Section.
I was told on another forum that Haswell doesnt suffer from traditional vDroop hence the absence of the option.
    Also where?

  • MSI B85-G43 and i5-4460

    Hello
I'm planing to buy a new computer set with that motherboard MSI B85-G43 and i5-4460. On official MSI site I read Haswell-Refresh processors
are supported from Bios v3.7. There is my question here. Will the i5-4460 boot with a MSI B85-G43? I mean can I able to enter to BIOS and update it with a new version?
I don't have an older processor which work and supported on 100% on this motherboard.

Thanks for answer and I think I will take standard Haswell instead Haswell Refresh. I don't want to have any problems. i5-4570 should be fine.
Anyway or btw. Is RAM memory Crucial Ballistix 2x4GB (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) supported on this motherboard? I didn't see them on list (maybe is out of date) so I want to ask before buy.
edit// I found Crucial Ballistix is supported https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/?compatible_with=msi-motherboard-b85mg43

  • I bought a MSI Z77A-G43 and 1st PCIE(3.0 I guess) slot doesn't work?

I bought a MSI Z77A-G43 and 1st PCIE (3.0 I guess) slot doesn't work? I mean when I put my gf card in it , my screen wont start. BUt when I put it to other blue Pcie (2.0 I guess) it works. What will be the reason? Do I need to do anything in bios ?

I had a similar situation recently.
1.) Check the cpu/ socket for damage
2.) Remove the mobo and make sure there are no extra stand off's under the board.
3.) Check the pci/e slot for obstruciton or debris
Other than that it's probably going to be an rma issue.

  • Freezing issues with MSI 970A-G43 and AMD FX 8320

    Hey all,
I bought my brother a new system a few days ago, but he has had serious issues with the machine crashing ever since.
The machine has had a fresh installation of Windows 7, it has all the latest drivers for both motherboard, sound, chipset and video card (Latest VGA driver tested as well as the latest Beta version)
I thought the problem might be with the VGA card, as the computer would just shut off during 3d Gaming, but it also seems to happen when surfing the internet or doing normal "2d" activities
What happens is the computer will just seemingly shut off, the LED lights on the front of the case, around the dials, start blinking and the only way to get it back up again, is to turn if off at the power supply unit and then turn it back on again.
I'll paste in what my brother sent me (As I live in the UK and can't see the machine crashing myself), he said:
I dunno what the issue is but, last night the comp just shut off in middle of game play on 3 different games, and the lights were flashing, I had to turn complete power off to the power box and back on to restart comp, I kept checking all my temps with speccy and speed fan and nothing seemed high at all, also when it shuts off and I re start it, a lot of my desktop icons move around to different spots,
Update: crashed a few times on me, once playing euro, once just browsing Internet 5 min after the first one, changed out ram just for shots and giggles and ran euro on ultra for about 5 min and crashed. I dl a gpu monitor gadget, was accurate on temp but said the gpu was 0% but with just Internet would randomly jump to 99% or 40% then back to 0 and would stay and eventually crash
    Spec is:
    AMD FX-8320 3.5GHZ EIGHT CORE
    500GB SATA III 6GB/S 7200RPM 16MB
    COOLERMASTER SEIDON 120M WATER COOLER
    4Gb DDR3 / 1600 MHZ MEMORY
    MSI 970A-G43 AMD 970 CROSSFIRE AM3+ DDR3 USB 3.0 SATA
    CORSAIR 500 WATTS CX500 V2 80 PLUS POWER SUPPLY
ASUS XONAR DG 5.1 CHANNELS PCI XONAR DG SOUND CARD
    AMD RADEON 7750 2GB PCI-E
There was a concern I did have when I did search earlier, via a thread on Tomshardware in which a similiar board had issues with the FX8350's wattage going above the stated 125 watts and causing the board to freeze.
It's a different board/chip, but I wonder if the wattage of the CPU goes above 125W and causes problems on the board? Hmm
I feel really guilty right now, because I bought this for him as a present, it was $700ish plus shipping etc and it's been nothing but problems ever since.
I'm going to see what version of Bios he's running when he gets out of bed, but the Live Update software said there were no updates, but I'll have him check manually.
Another issue I noted, was I sent him some ram before the PC arrived, which was:
    XMS3 — 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1333C9)
He originally put that ram in with the existing 4gb of ram, so I thought it "Might" be a conflict, due to them having a different Mhz value
So I had him remove the 4gb stick that came with the PC
As soon as he entered the bios, it froze and did so twice
So he removed that ram and put back the original 4gb stick and the bios worked
No idea if the two are related.

I hope this doesn't count as necro-ing a thread (last post was in October), but it's the one closest to my situation.
    I have the following setup:
    MSI 970a-g43 motherboard
    AMD FX-6300 cpu
ATI Radeon HD 4550 graphics card
    4x 2GB RAM sticks
    2x 500 GB 3.5" SATA hard drives
    CoolMax 700W psu
    16x r/rw DVD burner
cheapo SD and others card reader that fits in the floppy drive bay
Older PC tower that has a temperature sensor built into it
I built it around November 15th, and it worked until a couple days ago (December 12th I think), when it started doing the sudden shut-off thing. Same as Adresch described: shuts off, tower light blinks, have to flip the i/o switch off and back on to boot again. I consulted a friend for some suggestions, and he said I should put a water cooler in there, because the stock heatsink that comes with most processors are junk. So I went out and bought a Corsair H55 water cooler and installed that.
The computer seemed to run for a bit longer before shutting off. I loaded up the BIOS software, SpeedFan, and HWMonitor. SF said the CPU was running average of 48*C, and GPU was averaging 51*C. The CPU's highest was at 61*C and its lowest was 36*C. BIOS software said CPU was at 35*C the whole time. HWMonitor listed the GPU at 51*C, and the CPU at 7*C. These are all very inconsistent with each other as far as I can tell, so I don't know what to make of these readings. Didn't seem to much matter as the computer continued shutting off.
My options then being replacing the PSU or the motherboard, I decided to replace the power supply, since I was just within the 30 days. Switched for a ThermalTake TR2 700W. Before installing it, I pulled the tower's CPU temperature sensor wire from between the water cooler heatsink and the CPU, just in case. Then I installed the PSU, checked and rechecked all of the connections, and turned it on.
    Nothing.
I then spent the next two hours rechecking everything, even unplugging everything and putting it back together. Still nothing. The best I could get was a flicker of the tower light and the fans doing a quarter turn before ceasing movement. The red LED on the front of the SD card reader stayed on the entire time, though, so I guess it was getting at least a trickle of power. I also removed everything but the PSU, motherboard, CPU, and one stick of RAM. Still no power. I think the new PSU may have been open box, so I'm returning it today for a different one, and even bumping it up to 850W.
I'm not sure that will solve my original issue though, so I'll be looking for a heatsink to put on the VRMS as mentioned. Just thought I'd get this down in a relevant thread in case anyone had other thoughts on what could be going on.

You can play COD2 in single player mode? If so, then I would think that you have a game set-up problem with the mutli player mode.
Just do a search on the net for that error message and you will see you are not alone. Go to the game manufacturers site and check for game updates. It could also be related to direct X installation.
Hi, i think could be a drivers problem, i just replaced my motherboard and processor only and i never had any problem before...

  • MSI H77MA-G43 AND INTEL 2ND GEN

    Hello,
i have made a budget pc for a friend with the following config:
    MSI H77MA-G43
    INTEL I5 2400
    MSI GTX 550 TI
I have installed all the drivers but i can´t get any audio or ethernet. I've read about this and i come to a conclusion that might be some problems of compatibility between h77 chipsets and 2nd generation intel processors, since h77 chipsets ware made for 3rd gen. processors.
I've already change bios, installed the latest drivers and updates the chipset controller, but nothing. Anyone can help me or do i have to change the board for a P67 chipset???
    Thanks in advance,

The board runs fine with an i5-2400 and bios 1.70:
    http://www.msi.com/service/download/bios-19052.html
Audio is already working with default Windows driver.
Make sure you've selected your speakers in the Playback Devices menu in Windows. It might use the VGA audio at the moment.
LAN is running fine with the Realtek driver: http://www.msi.com/service/download/driver-2697.html
What ME version is the board running on? You can check that in the Settings->System Status menu.

  • MSI Z77A-G43 and mixed drive types

    Hi,
I have an own-built desktop using a MSI Z77A-G43 motherboard. The OS boots from an SSD but all documents, media, etc, are stored on 2x1TB HDDs, configured as RAID.
However, having performed a benchmark on my SSD I'm finding that it's speed is half what it should be. It's connected to the SATA 3 connector on the MB.
I'm wondering if the issue is that, because of the RAID drives, I have the SATA mode as RAID in the BIOS. Is it falling back to IDE for non-RAID drives? Is there a way to force it to use AHCI?
Any thoughts/help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    David.

Well, checking you manual will clear up your confusion. SATA 3 is the connector number while SATA III is a terminology for SATA 6GB/s. Some say just SATA 3 meaning SATA III but that's just wrong terminology. The SATA 3 connector and all others but SATA 1 & 2 are 3GB/s (1-22 of the manual by the way)

... and to make matters worse, during extensive testing of this Wake on LAN issue, I set:
    Wake Up Event By: [OS]
Resume From S3 by USB Device [Enabled]
and my USB keyboard is also unable to wake from S3/Sleep. When Wake Up Event By: [BIOS] is set, the USB keyboard is able to wake from S3/S4/S5.
Well mine does not wake up by keyboard, which is what I want, I need to see if keyboard with power key will work.

Last week, I submitted a support ticket with MSI, who responded with a basic set of wake on LAN instruction. I explained that, although I have followed the instructions, it still does not work. MSI have now gone silent on me.
I had somewhat similar experience with ASUS, but they just kept repeasting themselves, seems like language barrier or they just pretending.

  • GPU support and Nvidia SLI

It would appear that even with Nvidia's new Vista drivers 178.24 (today Oct 15) you will only get GPU support if you turn off SLI. Seems like a waste of a second video card. Hopefully Nvidia will get this sorted in the next release.
    My system:
    Intel QX6888 (quad core)
    3 GM RAM
2x GeForce 8800 GTX (normally in SLI)
    Vista 32bit

Read the fineprint and don't listen to the marketing fluff. NVidia never has made any promises that it would double the available texture resolution nor double the number of polygons a 3D program could display or any other real feature relevant for the performance as perceived by the user. All it does is extend your desktop resolution or improve a few things on the texture filtering and antialiasing by providing different cooperative methods of the two GPU working on the same problem at once, but even a quad SLI can not override the rules of OpenGL or any other display API else for that matter. There is really very little measurable benefit to SLI in combination with professional apps, even for the always resource hungry CAD people, and I don't exactly call paying twice the money for a meagre 5 - 20% gain a good deal. This may be different for others, but point in case: SLI has no place with most current commercial mainstream apps and unless NVidia open up the API so others can really understand and use what SLI does, this will not change in the foreseeable future.

  • MSI x58 Pro and Quad SLI

OK I am new to this forum first off. So hey! lol. Now maybe this has been discussed.... well im sure it might have been but I thought I would get a direct answer from somebody. I have the Msi x58 Pro mobo and I planning to run QUAD SLI with GTX 295's. Now my BIOS version is the oldest.... I think 7.0 which doesnt support SLI right? and I have read that MSI motherboards now supports SLI. WIll this configuration work and should I update my BIOS to the most current version??

Yes, update with the 8 series bios. That will enable SLI. Please, be sure to use the forum USB Flash Tool for the bios update.

    Yes, SLI is supported.

  • Z87M-G43 and i5-4670k overclocking question

I'm trying to adjust the CPU ratio with my new i5. I purchased the "k" version for the unlocked multiplier. The bios settings are blocked out to change ratio. How do you make changes to the ratio? I've been out of the new tech loop and am lost at the moment. Any help is appreciated.

Quote from: montyface on 07-August-13, 06:28:19
I finally found the answer after a little more web searching. You have to manually enter the ratio. There is no drop down or sub menu. Now I'm trying to figure out why Windows 7 only sees a 3.4 ghz cpu..
Where do you enter the ratio though?

  • Z87m G43 BIOS Update v26 or v29?

I have a MSI Z87m-G43 with Intel 4690K Processor which requires a bios update for the CPU to work.
The compatibility list shows 7823v26 bios (which was the first version to support haswell processors)
so should i update to v26 or the latest v29?

Quote from: sagar.poison on Yesterday at 16:38:21
but the latest 2.9 (even 2.8) doesn't state anything what is the best course here?
That goes without saying, they just forgot to propagate it up. Might not be needed if BIOS ver. is 2.7 but how can users know, or why should they know. IMO this option should be removed and M-Flash should flash whatever is needed.
Quote from: sagar.poison on Yesterday at 20:40:13
i also heard a feature where you can boot from a usb (where bios in in the usb itself)?
can it help with the situation, whats it really for?
The BIOS archive contains a flash utility, AFUDE238, which can be used when booted with a DOS bootable USB.
Basically it is for people who do not trust M-Flash, and situations M-Flash does not work for some reason.
