MSMPENG Requiring large amounts of CPU Time

                 <---Time
This is a picture of the CPU consumption on a multiprocessor cpu activity monitor on Win 7 SP1 running a Sandybridge Extreme. I know there was a problem during XP days. This has been going on for about an hour and one half. The system logical disk is about
125 GB and I had nothing running at the time. The activity shown was MSMPENG.EXE according to the task manager.
I am using Windows Defender and Malware Bytes as AV. I've been advised that it's ok to run them both. All disks on the system are SSDs. It's continuing in this state...... The green horizontal line is physical memory consumption which rather low.

  • Firefox is using large amounts of CPU time and disk access, and I need to know how to shut down most of this so I can actually use the browser.

Firefox is a very busy piece of software. It's using large amounts of CPU time and disk access. It puts my usage at low priority, so I have to wait for some time to be able to use my pointer or keyboard. I don't know what it uses all that CPU and disk access time for, but it's of no use to me. It often takes off with massive use of resources when I'm not doing anything, and I may not have use of my pointer for several minutes. How can I shut down most of this so I can use the browser to get my work done. I just want to use the web site access part of the software, and drop all the extra. I don't want Firefox to be able to recover after a crash. I just want to browse with a minimum of interference from Firefox. I would think that this is the most commonly asked question.

  • Excessive system CPU time on Solaris 10 host with multiple zones

We current have three T2000s running Solaris 10 with all of the latest patches installed. Each machine is identically configured with a single, 1.2GHz 8-core CPU & 32GB RAM. Two of the three are in our production environment and have three zones serving users' needs (Oracle app servers, to be specific).
The third server is our test environment, and it hosts 5 zones. Four of the five zones are similar to those in our production environment (running Oracle or other J2EE app servers). The fifth zone is running eight Oracle RDBMS instances - seven at 9.2, one at 10.2. As this is a test environment, those instances are configured to use a modest amount of system resources.
We are seeing an odd behavior that at first blush appeared to imply that we had put too much on this single server. However, after looking into it more closely, I'm now thinking that what we are seeing may in fact be some sort of OS issue.
Specifically, when monitoring the server load in the global zone, we will see sudden spikes in the load factor, jumping above 20.00 and staying there for a minute or two, then dropping down to 3.00-6.00. During the time that the load is very high, vmstat reveals that an inordinate amount of CPU time is being spent in the kernel.
    For example:

Of course, as the kernel monopolizes more and more of the CPU time, the number of jobs in the run queue builds until such time as the kernel relinquishes the CPU and the user jobs are serviced.
I have never seen this kind of vmstat output in the 20 years that I've been administering Sun servers, though I must admit that these three T2ks are the first multi-core, zoned machines that I have experience with.
So do I have something configured wrong, do we have too many services configured for this one machine to handle, or is there indeed and OS issue involved here?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Since updating to 3.6.17, Firefox has twice taken over 50-70% of CPU time. Why?

I accepted an update to Firefox 3.6.17 a few days ago. Yesterday, and again today, Norton has notified me that Firefox is using an abnormal amount of CPU time. In each case, I confirmed this with Windows Task Manager. For extended periods, the CPU usage was 70% or greater, and did not come down until I rebooted my computer.

I have similar problem only using XPPro/SP3. Once open even if just sitting unused it continues to gobble memory and crashes. It crashed a couple of times a day since the update, has locked the system up a couple of times and crashed a total of 14 times today, the last three while trying to send crash reports. All since the 3.6.17 update. From scanning the forum looks like Apple folks are having similar problems with the last update as well. Even with FF4
FF has become so unusable (The last time it crashed while sending the crash report from the previous crash) that I'm posting this using Opera 11.

    Hi cowboyincognito,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you don't have the option to play music by genre on your iPhone, try this step to find the Genre option:
    Browse your music library.
You can browse your music by playlist, artist, or other category. For other browse options, tap More. Tap any song to play it.
To rearrange the tabs in the Music app, tap More, then tap Edit and drag a button onto the one you want to replace.

  • Is there any way to connect time capsule to a MacBook Pro directly via USB. I have a large amount of data that I want to back up and it is taking a very long time (35GB is taking 3 hrs, I have 2TB if files in total)...)?

Perhaps via USB. I have a large amount of data that I want to back up and it is taking a very long time (35GB is taking 3 hrs, I have 2TB if files in total)...? I want to use TimeCapsule as back-up for an archive which is curently stored on a 2 TB WESC HD.

No, you cannot backup via direct usb connection..
But gigabit ethernet is much faster anyway.. are you connected directly by ethernet?
Is the drive you are backing up from plugged into the TC? That will slow it down something chronic.. plug that drive in by its fastest connection method.. WESC sorry I have no idea. If ethernet use that.. otherwise USB direct to the computer.. always think what way the files come and go.. but since you are copying from the computer everything has to go that way.. it makes things slower if they go over the same cable.. if you catch the drift.

  • Pull large amounts of data using odata, client API and so takes a long time in project server 2013

We are trying to pull large amounts of data in project server 2013 using both client API and odata calls, but it seem to take a long time. How is this done
In project server 2010 we did this creating SQL views in both the reporting database and for list creating a view in the content database. Our IT dept is saying we can't do this anymore. How does a view in Project database or content database create issues?
As long as we don't add a field in the table. So how's one to do this with creating a view?

    Hello,
If you are using Project Server 2013 on premise I would recommend using T-SQL against the dbo. schema in the Project Web Database for your reports, this will be far quicker that the APIs. You can create custom objects in the dbo. schema, see the link below:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ee767687.aspx#pj15_Architecture_DAL
It is not supported to query the SharePoint content database directly with T-SQL or add any custom objects to the content database.

  • Real time application and large amount of data

    Hi,
I've a real-time application that needs to allocate large amount of data in memory (more than 5GB). I'm using 1.6 version of JRE and I'm planning to migrate to 1.8 because the application experiment a lot of "Stop of the world" every day. I spent a lot of time analysing and testing all the parameters and policies of the GC.
The question is, with the 1.8 version dissapears the pauses on the application caused by the GC cleaning process?
    Thanks.

Just noting that the GC only really needs to do something when objects are created and then are no longer in use.  So if your application needs a large amount of memory then keeping it, rather than discarding it might be a better solution.

  • Why each time I try to save my day's work, version WITH mark-ups and version w/o, does it say "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to access this? What is clipboard and how can I just save my work in its proper file?

I don't get this clipboard thing! I have created two files, one for the MS with mark-ups, and one for the unmarred version, each living in their own spot in my "house." It seems to be merging the two versions and I have to go in and re-paste and then it always says "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to be able to access this?" and it prompts me to say no but I am afraid I'll lose my day's work so I just tap cancel. I highlight the day's revision and select "copy" to paste into the unmarked doc. before I save on the marked up or working doc. It is when I try to close that one that the clipboard issue pops up. What can you tell be about saving doc. in two places and how to NOT get it on clipboard? Thanks! I am not super computer savvy so layperson's language much appreciated!

Are you using Microsoft word?  Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users.  I have seen this message from Microsoft word.  It's annoying.
    As BDaqua points out...
When you copy information via edit > copy,  command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information.  Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes.  command + s does a save.
