MSN Messenger display pic

Hey all, I'm new to Mac's so I'm sorry if this question/problem has already been posted, but I just installed MSN Messenger on my MacBookPro and when I try to add a display picture into the messenger, an alert comes up saying, "please make sure the file is in the correct format". Well all of my pictures that I have tried have all been in JPEG/JPG formats. I even tried re-saving the picture and then importing it into the messenger display pic, and that still didn't work.
If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this I'd be greatly appreciated if you could help me out
Thanks again!

Hi passecj,
I don't use MSN Messenger anymore (switched to Adium) but found this two URLs for you regarding what sounds like the same issue:

  • MSN Messenger uses wrong inbuilt webcam for video chat on triple screen set up. It uses a cinema display webcam not the iMac webcam.

For some strange reason if i attach my 2  apple cinema displays to my iMac to make a triple  screen set up msn messenger video chat does work but it uses the apple cinema display inbuilt webcam and not the iMac webcam. Its annoying as i have to turn sideways to get into the video call view.
So i have  a set up like this: an apple cinema display thunderbolt, then in the middle an iMac new then to the right of the iMac another apple thunderbolt cinema display. WWhen i use MSN messenger to make a video call it uses the inbuilt webcam on the far right apple thunderbolt cinema display and not the inbuilt webcam in the iMac in front of me, its annoying any ideas please.
If i unplug both side cinema displays MSN messenger uses the inbuilt camera on the iMac like normal but when  i use extra screens it uses the webcam built into those and not the iMacs webcam.

I would try with another client like skype or something
and if it's only msn messanger which have the problem it may
be more of a question for ms's forum?

A real simple fix usually is to delete the mail account (settings < mail contacts calendars, tap the affected account and choose delete at the bottom) Then re add the account.

  • MSN Messenger on Mac

I have Mac Messenger but it only seems to show the display pics for a few people - the first person I spoke to who was on a windows pc and anyone on a mac - everyone else its just the MSN logo - anyone any ideas?

Since Messenger is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered

  • Satellite Pro M30 Win 7 - webcam does not work on msn messenger

    Hi all
I have a Satellite Pro M30 Modell Nr.: PSM35E and have just changed to Windows 7. But the Nvidia Card NVIDIA GeForceTM FX Go5200 Grafik mit 64 MB RAM does not work properly.
I could find a driver from Vista and installed it, have Aero pics on the desktop, but my webcam does not work on msn messenger and this is the only way for me to see my family.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
Im a little bit confused; do you have some problems with the graphic card or with the webcam?
I assume you are speaking about external webcam connected to the USB port? Right?
What happens if you connect the webcam to the notebook? Can Win 7 recognize the connected device? Did you install additional drivers for this webcam?
In most cases its necessary to do that because I think its not plug & play device.

  • Dual screen imac uses wrong inbuilt webcam for msn messenger video chat.

I have an imac and apple display set up, using msn messenger the webcam built into the apple cinema display is used not the imac webcam itself, can I change this so the webcam built into the new imac is used, thanks.

Your info shows you are using some "Other OS".  If that is Windows, Linux, etc., I cannot help you.  However, if you are using some version of Mac OS X and your system info merely needs updating, keep reading.
It has been several years since I tested msn messenger for Mac (MMM) , and I no longer use it.  However, one of the following ideas should get things working unless MMM is written to prohibit selection of alternate cameras.
    (1) Launch MMM and check its Help menu item.  If MMM's Help on your Mac does not answer your question, check MMM's web support: http://mac2.microsoft.com/help/office/14/en-us/messenger/
    (2) If nothing in Help or Support gets things sorted, you may be able to use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to force MMM to choose the webcam built into the new imac:
    • Connect and power on all devices. • Quit MMM if it is running. • Launch any app with a user-selectable camera "Preferences..."
menu command. (The "tip" suggests that you use iChat,
but others like Photo Booth, iMovie, etc., may work, too.) • Open "Preferences..." and set the camera "Preference" to use
the display iSight. • Now launch MMM. MMM should now use the iMac's inbuilt
iSight because your display camera is in use by the other
     application.

  • Accessing Hotmail with Safari from button in MSN Messenger.

I have just bought a new iBook and have installed MSN messenger on it which I use a lot. However, sometimes when I click the link to get to my Hotmail inbox, Safari opens but keeps repeating accessing the same links that always appear as you enter your inbox and goes round and round in circles, never getting to my Hotmail, with the screen staying blank.
I know there is no issue with my personal Hotmail account as if I then open Internet Explorer I can access my hotmail. It's a really weird problem which I never experienced on my old iMac.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

    I) Go to Hotmail, Messenger, My MSN
I delete all cookies after, signing out, so I start with none, before signing in it is possible this helps to avoid the circle of errors some get. In Safari 1 use to have to enable cookies to Always to sign out of Hotmail.
    2) click on the one which best describes your account for example My MSN
for me ( this is a free Passport hotmail account )
    3) Log in to My MSN/ Messenger or Hotmail , I have to log in again to get to hotmail, after logging into My MSN.
    4) Or you can click Windows Live ID just under "Sign in using enhanced security" you can choose to: "Use the Passport Network to sign in to MSN Messenger, MSN Hotmail, MSN Music, and other sites and services! The Passport Network works with Windows Live ID. It's free to access the Passport Network. After you sign up and create credentials, you can sign in on any site that displays Microsoft Passport Network or Windows Live ID". I have not done this, so i do not know how it works.
Logging in has change at least 3 times in the last two weeks, still I have been able to log in & using Safari. Hope this helps. please let me know since this has been an on going issue for many users. I have posted to this somewhat & I would like to know if it works. Thx.

  • Are there any Radio and MSN Messenger features in my 8520?

    Hi everyone,
I can't find radio feature in my BB Curve 8520.  Do I need to download something or is it not possible at all?
Also I would like to use MSN Messenger on the go. Any chance to download it? Do I need to go to MSN page and look for suitable version. I am quite new.
It would be great to have some help.
    Thanks,

    1. There are numerous live streaming music applications, a few of which will play radio stations which stream to the internet.
    Try moodio.fm, for one.

  • MSN Messenger erase or how do I uninstall properly?

    Hello everyone
I wanted to install MSN Messenger original Microsoft Version. So I downloaded the compressed file, decompressed it and installed MSN Messenger. But the icon of the drive in which the compressed data was located wouldn't go away. And when I put it in the trash can and emptied it, MSN Messenger wouldn't start anymore, but display a big question mark in the icon located in the dock. So I removed this one as well. I wanted to know if there are any rests of files left on my hard drive, which should be erased. In general: How do I uninstall software from my MAC? Is there a special way to do it? And in case of MSN Messenger, do you think it was removed properly? If not, how can I do it afterwards?
    Thank you so much

    Hello,
Here is what you should have done to install it:
    Download the program.
Then, open the disk image that you received as your download.
Then, from the disk image, copy the Messenger program to your Applications folder on your hard drive.
Then, eject the disk image and if you wanted delete the downloaded file.
Then, you would have gone into the Applications folder to run your Messenger program.
What you did was run the program from the disk image rather than from your hard drive. So, naturally, when you ejected the disk image, the program was gone.
The installation method I mentioned above is the standard method of installing programs on Macintosh computers.
As for whether Messenger is a self-contained package, it is self-contained. If you delete the main program, then the whole program is gone.
All that it leaves behind is your conversation history / cache and a couple of preference files in your preferences folder that contains your user-name and password and your settings.
    These files are called:
    com.microsoft.MessengerDaemon.plist
    and
    com.microsoft.Messenger.plist
    and
    com.microsoft.AlertsDaemon.plist
    and
    Microsoft Messenger User Cache
    These files are located in:
Hard Drive --> Users --> "Your User Name" --> Library --> Preferences --> Microsoft
If you delete these files as well as the main application, then everything is gone.
    I hope this helps.
Let us know if you have other questions.

  • MSN messenger freezes starting built in webcam on Satellite A

Every time I go to send my webcam or start a video call, my entire MSN freezes, and no one can see the little webcam image below my display picture.
It's the built in 1.3M web cam at the top of the screen.
Has anyone had this problem or know what the problem may be?

    Hi
If you are using Vista OS then you should ensure that Vista SP1 has been installed.
Please ensure also that other Vista patches are also installed.
Furthermore I would recommend removing and disabling the webcam and MSM in msconfig -> Startup
This will prevent the MSN messenger and webcam software from automatic loading while booting.
    Then reboot the notebook again.
You could try to repair and to clean the OS using the CCLeaner. This software repairs the registry and other files. Maybe its helpful.
If you would like to use the MS Messenger and the webcam then start firstly the MSM and then webcam software. If this will not stop the freezing then try to start firstly the webcam and then the MSM
In my opinion the MSM affects the webcam and the MSM is responsible for this issue.

  • ITunes and MSN Messenger...

    Hi all,
I'm using iTunes 7.4.3.1 and Windows Live Messenger 8.1 (the latest Build). For some reason, sometimes MSN Messenger shows the What I am Listening to and at other times, it does not display anything. Is there anyway I can make Messenger track what I am listening to? I know that Messenger uses Windows Media Player but I don't ever use it. So is there a fix?
    Thanks,
    Ashar
EDIT: Yes, the "Show What I am Listening to" is ticked in MSN Messenger.

  • How can I chat with my MSN Messenger friends using Messages in Lion (not iChat)?

I use MSN Messenger daily to talk with friends but I would like to use Messages to chat with them. Is there a way to do this? I looked in the preferences but it only lists AIM, Google, Yahoo and Jabber. I don't use any of those ones. I only use MSN. Anybody know how, or if it's even possible?

    HI,
The Messages Beta has run out.
The End Date was the 14th December 2012.
However iChat and Messages in Mountain lion can be enabled to Add MSN Buddies to a Jabber List using Transports.
These Instructions detail how you can use a third Party app (in this case Psi) to enable  a Transport on a Server that uses Transports and then Add MSN Buddies to your Jabber Buddy list.
The Instructions were written some while ago and  include many pictures.
The current version of Psi is newer than the pics but you can still work out what to do.
The process will only enable Text Chatting

I just got my iMac today and was hoping to do some video chats with family members. I can't figure out how to video chat with them since MSN messenger is not Mac compatable. Does anyone know of a program I can use on my Mac to video chat with MSN messenger users?
