MSN Messenger Error

I don't know if I posted this in the right section, but I've had msn messenger ( the latest version for mac ) on my macbook pro for a while now, but today it just stopped working...
Whenever I try to log in I get this error
" Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not responding. The service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet "
I am connected to the internet and I am able to go onto msn through parallels on windows xp.
I thought this problem was something to do with the fact that I installed parallels 3.0 but even after I uninstalled it, it didn't work.
Anyone know what might be causing the problem or anyone having the same problem?

Hi!
I got the same problem as of today.
I am running OS X 10.5.1 and Microsoft Messenger Version 6.0.3 (070803). When i am running Adium on the same system i am logged in and when during that i also run Messenger, Adium is logged out of the system. So it seemes Messenger can connect but looses connection after that...
Any clue had Microsoft done something at their end?

    Hi,

Please advice whether there is way to solve this problem or any other method of accessing MSN Messenger.
    Thanks

do a check on the wsdl file and how you are passing values in the proxy. The tags for XML are not correct. Open the WSDL in IE and see there must be an error. Or probably when passing the actual values to the XML generated each element is not closed properly. Error says tags dont match.

  • Error in itunes store, msn messenger, and software update

hello, i seem to have a problem since someone changed my proxies settings for the internet. My internet browser works just fine and I can download stuff from the internet. But, neither Msn Messenger, nor iTunes store, nor Software Update are able to make a connection and work properly. I need help, how can I make them work??
    Thanks.

I too am having a problem. It seems to have started after the last Software Update to my MBP.
Although I am connected to the internet, my MSN Messenger for Mac won't connect.
I get a message saying "Sign in to MS Messenger failed, because the service is not available, or you are not connected to the internet".
I have checked that the service is available,(it is) and I am connected to the internet.
The funny thing is, after failing to connect with my MBP, I tried my iMac, and that too wouldn't connect.
When I tried the iMac again this morning, it was OK, but as soon as I try the MBP, the problem appears again, and then the iMac won't connect either.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Trouble connecting to MSN Messenger server, despite internet working

Sorry, this probably isn't in the correct section but I've been trying to connect to MSN Messenger for the last day or two. Normally I would just leave it and let it fix itself. However this hasn't resolved the problem. I normally use mercury messenger, but have since tried to connect using alternatives such as the official MSN software, amongst others.
I've reset the computer, deleted & reinstalled all the software, disconnected from the internet and set up a new user account, but the problem still seems to be happening. Using mercury messenger I get the error message "unable to connect to MSN server", while MSN messenger simply says I may not be connected to the internet.
Could someone please advise what else I could try, as I use MSN as a cheap way to communicate with friends!
    Thanks,

    Hi there!
I'm assuming everything on the net is working normally except for MSN? Does sound strange...where exactly is Warwickshire? Is there a possibility there are some MSN network problems in your area? I wouldn't expect so many different apps to be giving you a problem...
As for alternatives Adium is really a nice choice on Mac because you can connect wth any IM protocol. The disadvantage is you can't do video. Anyways with the real MSN Messenger you can't video either...that's why Mercury and also aMSN are popular alternatives...
    Let us know,
    Reg

  • Possible Blocked Port Halting MSN Messenger Connection?

    Hi everyone,
I have been running MSN Messenger for months on my Macbook Pro without any problems. The other day at work it was connected as always and I got disconnected. When I tried to reconnect, I kept getting an odd message saying that my sign in details were wrong (they're not). Other people in the same room are still able to access MSN Messenger, just not me. The problem is that even at home now on my home network, I'm not able to connect to it there either. I still get the same error message. Around the same time I did download AIM to use also, so I'm wondering if this has caused a problem or if it's something else. I've looked around online and a lot of people seem to think it's a blocked port 1863. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this so I can get MSN up and running again? Thanks in advance.
    xx

    Hi,
Is good to know that you were able to find the workaround. Actually I was on the lab testing this due that I noticed that you had 2671 bypassed requests. Definitely bypassing authenticated traffic is going to resolve the issue, but I also wanted to recommend you to try another solution.
Add these commands to the CE:
    - http cache-authenticated all
    - http cache-cookies
and remove the bypass auth-traffic command.
This would allow the CE to cache as much as possible of the transaction. I tested and it works just fine and the CE is seeing cache hits.
As a side note, I noticed that the messenger goes on port 80 so you don't have to worry about the port 1863.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jose.

  • Accessing Hotmail with Safari from button in MSN Messenger.

I have just bought a new iBook and have installed MSN messenger on it which I use a lot. However, sometimes when I click the link to get to my Hotmail inbox, Safari opens but keeps repeating accessing the same links that always appear as you enter your inbox and goes round and round in circles, never getting to my Hotmail, with the screen staying blank.
I know there is no issue with my personal Hotmail account as if I then open Internet Explorer I can access my hotmail. It's a really weird problem which I never experienced on my old iMac.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

    I) Go to Hotmail, Messenger, My MSN
I delete all cookies after, signing out, so I start with none, before signing in it is possible this helps to avoid the circle of errors some get. In Safari 1 use to have to enable cookies to Always to sign out of Hotmail.
    2) click on the one which best describes your account for example My MSN
for me ( this is a free Passport hotmail account )
    3) Log in to My MSN/ Messenger or Hotmail , I have to log in again to get to hotmail, after logging into My MSN.
    4) Or you can click Windows Live ID just under "Sign in using enhanced security" you can choose to: "Use the Passport Network to sign in to MSN Messenger, MSN Hotmail, MSN Music, and other sites and services! The Passport Network works with Windows Live ID. It's free to access the Passport Network. After you sign up and create credentials, you can sign in on any site that displays Microsoft Passport Network or Windows Live ID". I have not done this, so i do not know how it works.
Logging in has change at least 3 times in the last two weeks, still I have been able to log in & using Safari. Hope this helps. please let me know since this has been an on going issue for many users. I have posted to this somewhat & I would like to know if it works. Thx.

  • MSN Messenger, Camino unexpectedly quit on new MacBook 10.4.6

Has anyone else had problems of this nature:
Brand new MacBook (3 days out of the box), installed various apps including MSN Messenger 5.1.1 (I know this isn't Universal...but it worked for 2 days no problem...and Adium still works fine...!) and Camino (Universal).
All worked fine until today when Messenger stopped opening from the dock OR direct from the apps folder. Error message simply says 'the application unexpectedly quit and has had to close'. Trying to reopen brings the same error message. Deleting the program from apps to Trash usually results in '... cannot be deleted because it is in use' although I've been able to eventually delete completely, reinstall, and still no joy.
I thought it was just MSN being rubbish but Camino has started doing it too. The only way I've got around it so far is to force Camino to open via Rosetta - hardly ideal.
Anyone else? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
(Have also tried usual verifying/repairing disk permissions)
    MacBook 1.8GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi taylz,
I've not bothered with MSN for my MacBook because as you identified it's not universal yet. I use Adium like you on it and find it a good substitue for MSN.
I have Camino on the iMac and it works fine, I'll try downloading it for the MacBook and see what experiences I have. It could conflicting with other software on your MacBook.
The best thing in my opinion is to contact the Apple store in Birmingham and see if they can offer you any help.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

  • Msn messenger and 10.5.2 unable to login

Hi, I have this problem with two macs (macmini and macbook intel), both with same version 10.5.2 (and same problem since 10.5.2).
microsoft messsenger (msn) is unable to login (same apply to adium or any other if try to connect to messenger.hotmail.com 1863).

I run a TCP dump and you can see the packages go out to the router but you don't get an ACK status, only RST packets return.
Friends not using Leopard is not having problems with the same version of messenger 7.0 (and earliers).
Problem persists even if in other network (macbook connected to different networks and wireless) so problem is not in the router or ISP.
Is there anything that leopard might be blocking (or broke)..., running "dscacheutil -flushcache" doesn't help and nothing is blocking connections to that port as well as DNS is resolving fine to the right IP for messenger.hotmail.com.
Any one can give me a hint what could I try (without re-installing leopard)?
Any new ideas I could try to resolve the problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi I have similar problems.
When connected to my home network Messenger 6.3 and 7.0 connect fine using both the Wifi and the Ethernet port.
However when connected to the office network the connection times out.
Moreover I also use Jbuddy messenger Pro, same problem works at home doen't work at the office.
At the office a pac file is used for the proxy settings.
When connect to the office network using Parallels (Windows XP) and MSN Messenger 4.7 in XP connection is ok.

  • ITunes store, MSN messenger, Software Updates, Dropbox cannot connect

I've never had a problem with this computer. Recently installed Leopard, and it worked beautifully for 2 weeks.
Now, iTunes store, MSN messenger, Software Updates...basicly any apps that are dependent on an internet connection cannot connect to the network. HOWEVER, I can connect to the internet (and browse the web in Firefox) just fine. No problems there at all.
I get error messages, such as (in iTunes): iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The Network connection was refused.
I do not have a firewall, I tried to created a new admin account to see if it was just my account that was corrupted, but that also didn't work...
I'm hoping someone has a clue what I should do...

  • MSN Messenger inaccessible ?

As of yesterday I can't access MSN with either Messenger 6.0.3, 7.0.0 or Adium 1.2.3. For the last couple of years there has been no problem (I have to use it to contact the nieces on the other side of the world, so it's important to me) but as of yesterday morning I can't get logged in.
Nor can I get to the Messenger webpage (go to msn.com and hit the link near top left), nor can I telnet messenger.msn.com 6901 and nor can a friend in California - I'm on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. The only error message I get is the lame oone about unable to connect, or you must not be online etc. I can't see anything in the Console logs either.
Can anyone else actually login for MSN messenger?
Any suggestions? (aside from don't use it - see above)
I did think that connecting up my timecapsule might have caused the problem but reconnecting everything as it was prior to that makes no difference.
    The network setup is:-
Telus HighSpeed DSL (speedtest says 2800kbps/700kbps) to a 2Wire 2700 modem/router with the wireless turned off, then to the TC with wireless turned on and acting as bridge. Skype, iChat etc all work perfectly well.

It seems that it was the TimeCapsule somehow.
We also discovered that some websites were suddenly very slow to load. Looking at the Activity window for Safari showed that pretty much any content coming from an advert related site (doubleclick.net etc) would fail to connect and so the page was waiting (usually) until the timeout registered. How this could happen is anyone's guess!
This afternoon I tried taking the TC completely out of the picture and all of a sudden I had MSN access and fast webpages. Then I had to reset the TC to only be a backup connected by ethernet
This really seems very strange. How on earth could using the TC wifi
    a) block advert site content so totally
    b) do so even for one of the machine not using wifi but actually ethernet wired to the 2Wire modem/router and so completely (I thought) ignoring the TC
    c) block MSN

  • Safari and MSN Messenger

I'm not sure what's going on but I came home this afternoon, the power apparently went out, and now. all of a sudden, I can't log into MSN Messenger and I keep getting a message when I log into Hotmail that the certificate has expired and that Safari doesn't recognize the url. I tried to launch Messenger. I have it set so that it launches automatically. Because of whatever is going on, I get an error message saying it doesn't recognize my address or password. I've deleted preference list files, reinstalled Messenger, restarted my computer, checked my internet settings...I'm at a loss. I'm sure this question should be posted to Microsoft but their lame a&*ed site doesn't offer ANYTHING in the way of actual support. Is there something I can do on my end or do I have to wait until this certificate issue is resolved?

In Safari Preferences Security tab Show Cookies and delete the ones related to MSN or Messenger or Hotmail or Microsoft. If that doesn't work you might try resetting Safari but you'll lose your Bookmarks if you don't backup your Users/Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist file and you'll have to reset Safari preferences.

  • Cannot log into MSN messenger

    Hi
I've recently upgraded to Tiger 10.4. I went to log into msn messenger and a newer version (mac messenger 5.0) was available so I immediately downloaded it. I tried to log in on the new version but I keep getting the following message:
Sign in to microsoft messenger failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet.
Obviously I am connected to the internet and I have checked through the msn website for any faults with 'messenger' and there are none.
I have ensured that cookies are enabled which is what was suggested on msn's troubleshooting info but still I cannot log on.
I have also tried my older version of messenger and that won't connect either.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to get my messenger working? Is there something within my computer which I have to change or enable?
    Many thanx
    Em x

I was sitting in Business School class today and was kicked off MSN Messenger. When I tried to sign back in, I get the same error message above paraphrased that the system is unvailable or you can not connect to the internet. I have not installed any programs and this problem has surfaced on its own.
I can connect to MSN through Adium, and through MSN in Virtual PC, but not through the Mac OS X desktop using MSN application direct. I repaired disc permissions and attempted to downgrade to MSN 4.0 and reinstall MSN version 5.0 without sucess. My internet connection is working fine and the system preferences network diagnostics indicate everything is normal.
Apparently several people have this problem, but I have yet to find a solution. I don't want to re-install OS 10.4 unless it is absolutely necessary so if anyone has any suggestions - please hit me with them!
    Thanks!
