MSTSC (win 8.1) crashes after entering credentials

Hello,
I need a bit of help here.
I have 2 windows 8.1 pro English, patched to the latest patches and EMET 4.1 with recommended settings, mallwarebites and System Center Endpoint Protection latest version on it) clients members and domain members.
They cannot connect to other machines (server 2012 R2) within the domain and 1 REMOTE machine running windows 8.1 pro pc (not a domain member) using RDP (mstsc.exe) but they CAN connect to a remote server 2008R2 server in the same remote site (not part
of the domain)
From those same machines I CAN connect to all machines in the domain and remote using the Remote Desktop Connection Manager v 2.2.
From the REMOTE machines mentioned before I CAN connect to the domain servers (win 2012 R2) using the same credentials
So it seems to be caused by something on these machines but I cannot figure out what it is.

I THINK it started after a patch Tuesday in april but am not sure.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi Jeremy,
tried the first step already but to no avail.
Regarding the logs:
Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient%4Operational
ON SERVER: eventID 226
RDPClient_SSL: An error was encountered when transitioning from TsSslStateDisconnected to TsSslStateDisconnected in response to 25 (error code 0x8000FFFF).
ONCE at march 31 and about 10 on May 4 but nothing after that.
ON CLIENT: RDPClient_SSL: An error was encountered when transitioning from TsSslStateDisconnected
to TsSslStateDisconnected in response to 25 (error code 0x8000FFFF).
once today and once on may 4. However the last entry after a failed and logged attempt is Server supports SSL = supported. then nothing
more
Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager%4Admin
EMPTY ON BOTH SERVER AND CLIENT and last entry May 4
Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager%4OperationalOn
server and client: An error occurred when transitioning from Initialized in response to EvCreated. (ErrorCode 0xD00002FE) but in both cases that was on april 16 or longer ago. when setting up a new connection that fails, no additional errors are
logged
Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager%4Admin
On Server: 0 events
On Client: ONLY events Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server. Last entry April 4, 2014 and nothing after that.
Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager%4Operational
On Server: no errors
On Client: Last entry during an attempt = Server supports SSL = supported.
I tested with a different win 8.1 client with the same user accounts but that works fine. Unless you have some more suggestions, or anyone else for that matter, I will reinstall the laptops and close this matter.
Thanks so far for your support!
Best regards,
Panicz

  • MacAir using AD for authentication. In AD, there is a network home assigned to that user. When logging into that account on the Mac, it takes 1-2 minutes after entering credentials, before displaying an error that it could not connect to it, every time.

In our AD, all users have a network home that is set (smb://home for example). For some of our Mac users using AD for authentication, there is a 1-2 minute delay between entering their credentials and the OS being presented. The OS does not present itself until the user dismisses the alert: "There was a problem connecting to server home".Local users on the same machines do not have that problem.
It remains in the dock as User's Network Home as a ? that I am unable to remove, and there is also a 'Unknown' in the log-in items for the user as well (that I am also unable to remove).
Is there anyway to disable this share? Or to stop the Mac from trying to connect to it before loading the OS?

  • Router Crashes after entering "show run" or similar commands

    Hello,
Im having a problem with my Company router C3845-ADVSECURITYK9-M, software Version 15.1(4)M. After i issue "show run" it tends to crash in middle of output, router restarts itself to be precise....same thing happened when i tried "show stack" afterwards, it happened several times when trying to show running config, so im guessing it has some problem when trying to display large outputs...i have never heard of such thing though so im asking for advice,

And besides according to my collegues its not a recent problem (before i joined the company), it goes back at least a year or more...but ofc. since router is working fine untill you try to show the config noone bothered to resolve the issue they just kept their hands off it -.-

  • Photoshop CS3 Win XP SP2 - Crash after hours of use?

I am a desktop support tech. I have users that are crashing photoshop after hours of use and specifically when they are dodging and burning or using filters. Photoshop's RAM usage is not extremely high and I have users that do this everyday on machines that are exactly the same. Re-booting the machine postpones the issue for a couple of hours but does not fix it. Does anyone else have this issue and if so have you found any way to fix it?

Thanks for help and suggestions. I simply wiped the slate clean so to speak and reloaded iTunes and QuickTime. Changed a few default settings and reloaded all the music back into iTunes. Had to reaffirm my id and password for the music I bought through iTunes music store but everything appears to be working properly. I am now able to burn CDs without the system rebooting. My system was already set for mini-dump so if the Apple engineers would like those files I can upload them for you.
However I'm still having a problem that I've had from day one. When I import a CD to iTunes the first song on each CD has a 2 second or so blank sound gap in it. All the songs after that are okay though, no blank sound gap. I import everything from my internal drives not my external burner.
    Once again appreciate the suggestions.

have you tried resetting Safari? ( Safari-Reset Safari )
you'll get this warning - Resetting Safari erases your browsing history, empties the cache, clears the Downloads window, and removes cookies. It also removes any saved names and passwords or other AutoFill text and clears Google search entries. which is fine.
It sometimes solves these crash problems.
If not? try quitting Safari & trashing the com.apple.safari.plist file found in home/library/preferences/
    the start safari again

  • MDT not proceeding to Deployment Wizard after entering credentials on target machine

I have a server configured with MDT 2012 and am using WDS on another server with DHCP and AD to push that out to client machines. Sometimes it works, other times I enter the network credentials into the wizard on the deployment client and instead of saying
'Processing Rules: Default' and proceeding to the task sequence selection, it says 'Initialization Complete'. The window then disappears leaving just the Solution Accelerators background.

    Hi,
Please check the logs referred in the following article:

  • HFR Closes Immediately After Providing Credentials

I'm running HFR 11.1.2.736. I installed it and ran it successfully just last week. Go to login now and after entering credentials and clicking to connect, the HFR window login dialogue closes and nothing else happens. Tried restarting Hyperion services to now avail. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

It probably was an installation issue in your case,if in case you see the same behavior on another PC,you can try a couple of things before re-installing FR Studio
1.Run HRRunAnt.cmd, this is under the install/bin folder of the financial reporting studio folder, you can run a search at an OS level to find out the location, run this utility from a command prompt window by cd'ing into the actual location of the utility
2.Check the -Xmx setting associated with HReports in the operating system's registry,a higher value(beyond 256) would also cause Studio to disappear

  • Illustrator CC 64 bit crashes after a few seconds of being open (Win 8.1 64bit)

After following all related issues of others online, nothing has worked to solved this mystery.
Ai CC 64bit crashes after a few seconds of being open. I am running Win 8.1 64bit. All other Adobe CC apps work. I have installed and re-installed countless times, no help.
I am 100% convinced that Illustrator CC is 100% incompatible with Windows 8.1. Even the Microsoft compatibility page has 100% votes for incompatible yet it states it is compatible.
Adobe, if you care about paying customers, please fix this. I am coming from OS X and everything was flawless.

    DustinWilliam,
When something is wrong and you uninstall and reinstall, you should always run the Cleaner Tool inbetween to remove what may be lingering, although I doubt whether it will help in this case.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Other than that, I believe this is one for Customer Care (tick I Still Need Help and hope for an agent available for a chat),
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=illustrator&topic=downloading-installing-and-s etting-up
or for this specialized forum (where you may be able find the answer from previous threads),
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup
    or for Adobe Support (phone),
    http://helpx.adobe.com/adobe-connect/adobe-connect-phone-numbers.html

If nothing brings anything, please report back, and I will ask someone to find the right someone to sort it.

I was using firefox 5.0.1 & it was crashing frequently.I removed the installation & tried to reinstall.I getting a window asking for adminstrator password.Even after entering password, firefox was not getting installed

Sorry you are having problems. First of all try Fifrefox's safemode.
*[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
If that works post back for further advice.
Next step, if safe mode did not work.
<u>First: Try a clean install, (you have had a none standard version installed previously)</u><br /> that involves deleting the program files. Then if necessary try troubleshooting by creating and using a clean empty Firefox profile.
    See
    * this recent post [/questions/940399#answer-377134]
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall
    <u>Second: try a New Profile</u>
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile
    * this will be an additional profile, it is still worth backing up any existing or currently working profile on a regular basis
**[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
    * Until you are absolutely confident about the repercussions I suggest
** always use an empty folder when creating a new profile
** never delete or rename profiles, just disable or remove shortcuts
** after creating a new test profile open it and check for any addons or plugins that may be have been included by default

NAC 4.7(2) authentication SSO with Active Directory on WinServer2k3 crashed after update the next fixes:
    KB2478971          KERBEROS WEAK HASHING ALGORITHMS
This update addresses the vulnerabilities by preventing the use of weak hashing algorithms in both Windows Kerberos and Windows KDC and by preventing the client from downgrading the encryption standard to DES for Kerberos communication between client and server.
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS11-013.mspx
    KB2478953          ACTIVE DIRECTORY DoS
The vulnerability could allow denial of service if an attacker sent a specially crafted packet to an affected Active Directory server. The attacker must have valid local administrator privileges on the domain-joined computer in order to exploit this vulnerability.

The NAC solution was working fine for a year, but since my costumer installed those fixes we have troubles to auth users in NAC, CAM can't read LDAP tree and CAS neither. I requested my customer to remove those fixes, they did it but they don´t have a snapshot or checkpoint previous to restore the servers.
We have followed the Cisco's tshoot guides but the problem continues...

  • Lync 2013 aborts (crashes) after call is terminated

Computer is on a network. Desktop is running Win 7 64 bit with lync 2013. When the user terminates a call lync aborts and asks if user wants to restart Lync. I believe this is profile related as I logged on as myself with my credentials and could not
make the same issue happen.  The user also logged into a different computer and worked fine. Did not crash after ending a call. This issue just started as the user has been with this computer for quite some time with no issues before now.
Is there a fix for the user profile?
    Thanks

You can enable log on phone device, then check if the phone got the BYE signal in log file.
The log files are stored on the Lync filestore associated with the pool where the user logged into the phone hosted. Should be something like

  • Firefox crashes after few seconds

I have WIN 7 64bit , since last update i.e 33.0 version, i am facing a problem that firefox crashes after few seconds . I troubleshoot the same as mentioned on your site but it doesn't work ........
    kindly help .......

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>
    [[Image:Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win]]
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
Can you also try disabling hardware acceleration to see if that fixes your problem? You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window as follows:
#* Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options''.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
If the above did not solve it, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
#Enter ''about:crashes'' in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the '''5''' most recent Report IDs that start with '''bp-''' and then go back to your forum question and paste that into the "Post a Reply" box. (Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the ID's. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like)
    <br><br>
    Thank you for your help!
If you don't have enough time to go to that page and collect the crash reports:
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with '''bp-''' into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

  • T430: Win 7 total crash - safe mode unstable, recovery environment gone

    Hi everybody,
I've had my T430 since November and have been dual-booting Win 7 64bit and Ubuntu since then. I'm booting both OSs off of a Crucial M4 SSD and all my data sits in the drive caddy on the original HDD.
A couple of days ago, the windows partition just decided it didn't want to part of this world anymore. I've made no major changes to the system, but after selecting Windows 7 in the boot loader I was met with a BSOD for a fraction of a second and then reboot.
Ubuntu works fine and still recognizes everything, which leads me to assume that nothing's wrong with the SSD itself - it failed the SMART test, but that apparently doesn't really carry any weight with SSDs.
Now, I used the Lenovo-issued "Windows Recovery Environment" to let the system repair itself. That took all night, so I went to bed. Next morning I was greeted by the Win7 login screen, but after entering my credentials the system got stuck in a sort of "loading loop". I forcefully shut down the system and tried to get into Safe Mode. While that works, the system is ULTRA sluggish, everything takes for ever and I've been running Malwarebytes on the Win7 boot partition for the last four hours, which is a lot longer than I would expect it to take. CPU usage is around 0%.
    What gives?
At this point I'd like to either return to the "Windows 7 Recovery Environment" or completely re-install the OS, but here's the catch: The Recovery Environment is gone, completely gone. When I select it's entry in the boot loader, Win 7 boots up. The Recovery partition itself is still there, but it seems to be unbootable.
What is happening? Can I download a recovery DVD somewhere? Should I call CS? I'm very confused.
Edit: About the recovery partition - I'm fairly certain that Ubuntu sees all the data and files on there, but Win Safe Mode thinks there is nothing at all on there. I can't double check at the time since I want malwarebytes to finish whatever it is doing.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
