MSXML Version 2.0

Greetings,
This may be dumb question, but...
Where can I find documentation on how to use the functions found in Microsoft XML version 2.0 instrument driver ??
I have tried, but can't find anything on how to use those functions.
Thanks,
Harald B.

Hey Harald,
It looks like since the software is deprecated by Microsoft, it limits the amount of support we offer to what is in the help file. Since the software is no longer supported it, it may be difficult to find other pieces of software that will integrate well with it. I would recommend moving to a more recent version or using a different type of report generation which has better documentation. This also help because more people will be familiar with the newer software. What is your application? Would it be possible to make this change?

  • MSXML 3.0, 4.0 and 6.0

I have been assigned to find-out what certain machines (7(32/64)/2008 R2(32/64) and 2003 R2(32) are reporting thru NESSUS Tool as outstanding for the MSXML 4.0 SP2. The article reference by Nessus is dated as 12/2013 and the releases for MSXML 3/4/6 for
SP3 are not available. While surfing I find out there is a Dowload stand alone new release for MSXML 3.0 SP11 dated 2/2014. reading a couple articles I found the MSXML 3.0 is limited version of MSXML 6.0 for backword compatibility and
legacy support. The MSXML 4.0 is being superseded by MSXML 6.0. I have not found the lates version for MSXML 6.0 as a stand alone download. My worstation it does contain a MSXML 3.0 SP11 matching the download stand alone version I found,
but I also have MSXML 6.0 SP3. Is there a resdtributabled or framework version .net that loads these dll to the target marchine. I have found out for instance Windows Vista machines does include this dll out of the box. I also have read
that SQL Server 2005 provides MSXML 6.0 dll when down loaded. Is there any one that they coud guide me to find these dlls?
    michael john ocasio

With the machines that are in compliance; other words they do not have MSXML version 4.0 installed but it does have the latest for MSXML 3.0 AND 6.0.
    MSXML 6.0 SP3 Version 6.30.7601.17988 (MS13-002 -- KB2757638)
    MSXML 3.0 SP11 Version 8.110.7601.18334 (MS14-005 – KB2916036)
Should we assume these machines never had the MSXML 4.0
That seems a reasonable assumption. Perhaps more relevant that they don't have it now; probably not much relevant whether they did or did not have it in the past.
or it was removed by latest Windows malicious SOFTWARE removal tool (KB890830).
Uh, no, that's not within the scope of operations performed by the MSRT.
Is this a unnecessary effort to find out why machines never had this MSXML assuming they were build with the same image template?
I would think the previous descriptions of where MSXML4 comes from should address thsi question. MSXML4 was distributed ONLY BY ISVs with their products that required an a MSXML engine. If you didn't install an ISV product using MSXML4 on your reference machine,
then there's absolutely no reason to think there would be instances of MSXML4 cloned throughout your environment. Any machines that do have MSXML4 almost certainly acquired it due to a post-image application installation.

  • Project 2010 SP1 Installation Crashes

I'm trying to create a package that will handle both brand new installations for Project 2010 as well as upgrade installations for those running Project 2007, the latter of which represents a large population in our environment.
I basically followed the same process I used when creating packages for Office 2007, Office 2010, Project 2007 and Visio 2007, all of which work today:
    run setup.exe /admin
    create a new .msp
    make my adjustments (very few)
    save into Updates directory
customized PrjPro.WW\config.xml (after first creating a backup!)
    run setup.exe
I'm testing the package on a machine that previously had Project 2007, but after running for a short time, setup crashes.  I thought maybe the problem was with the config.xml so I undid the changes one at a time, then moved up to restoring the orignal
config.xml file but it continues to crash.
There's a setup log in %temp% that contains what may be the core issue

I'm beginning to wonder if there's an issue with the existing Project 2007 installation, or the way it was uninstalled [by the Project 2010 setup] - but maybe its something altogether different.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My point above is that Project 2007 was extremely buggy and unless files are saved using Project 2007 SP3 first you are likely to experience problems with the files when opening in project 2010. Project 2007 to 2010 with no service packs is problematic.
With SPs applied you should have far fewer problems.
Doesn't look like a exe with SP2 is available yet so you need to add the service pack separately, probably in the updates folder.
If all Project 2007 installs are already at SP3 then no need for this.

    Hi,
Please try Mr. Al's suggestion first, then we also could see the method of this KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2290714
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click
    OK.
    Locate HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{F5078F18-C551-11D3-89B9-0000F81FE221}\6.0\0\win32.
Right-click win32, and then Click Permissions.
Give yourself Full Control to the key.
Double-click the (Default) value under win32, and then change its value from
    %SystemRoot%\System32\msxml6.dll to C:\Windows\System32\msxml6.dll.
    Hope it's helpful.

If your startup disk says it is full, you need to remove some of your stuff.
Either move some documents/movies/pictures to an external drive (if you want to keep them), or delete them from your startup drive. Then, empty the Trash.
If you move them to an external, you will still have to delete them from the internal drive.
That won't fix Office (I don't think), but it will make everything run better. You need a minimum of 10GB free (more would be better).
You might need to reinstall Office. It should work without problem (well, at least as little problem as Office can muster).

    Hi Tom,
Outlook 2010 is not supported in Windows Server 2003.  For Microsoft Outlook 2010, the following operating systems supports only the 32-bit edition of Office 2010:
Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3)
    Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2), MSXML 6.0
    Windows Server 2003 R2

Personal suggestion, we can upgrade your Windows server 2003 to higher version for more features.

    doesn't work.
I tried manually install 4, 5, and 6 but none of them will show up in IE11.  I'm wondering if the more recent Windows updates broken their own add-on.  We've been fretting about crypto locker recently so we pushed all the IE updates would could
get to try and stop the exploits.  Nothing has been done outside of official MS updates.
Oddly enough, our Windows 8.1 laptops seem to still install it OK.

    Hi,
    see
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms760232(v=vs.85).aspx
    and
    Compatibility Changes in IE11
You can use x-ua meta or Enterprise Mode lists to enforce legacy version emulation in IE11 or you can use the suggested scripting methods described above.
    Regards.

The iPhone version is not available separately for download in the App Store. You'll need to read the reviews for the available third party apps.

  • New Applescript version breaks old code

    Hi there,
First off, I'm not an Applescripter, but I have one script I wrote a few years back (with help from kind people on the net) to generate and save tiny applications which, when called from within an Adobe Flash executable, would open the required file using the Mac OS native application associated with them (i.e a doc file wouldbe opened by Word if installed, TextEdit if not...)
It used to run fine on my old Powerbook G4 on an old version of AppleScript, but times change and, one whizzy Intel processor later, I'm trying to get the same script running on OS 10.8 with AppleScipt 2.5.1, with varied results.
Basically, what the script should do is read a comma delimited file in the same folder as the script, called 'fileNames.csv' which contains the names of all the files that I want the tiny apps to open. Each item will then have its own file created by the AppleScript, named after each item, which get saved in an pre-existing folder in the same directory as the script and fileNames.csv file, called 'fscommand'.
The example of the fileNames.csv file I'm having issues with:
    yr2_unit_1_tn.doc,yr2_unit_2_tn.doc,yr2_unit_3_tn.doc ... etc up until  yr2_unit_20_tn.doc
The script always used to work fine, but the new version of AppleScript seems to have broken it. When I run it now, it creates all the .app files up until 'yr2_unit_11_tn.doc.app' but then stalls in 'Running...' mode in the AppleScipts editor, and refuses to save apps for the final nine files in the .csv file.
It still runs ok from an older AppleScript editor (2.2.1) but this only saves PowerPC applications, which won't run on Intel Macs. And this would be me running away from the problem, rather than attempting to solve it ;-)
I'm thinking it's a filename issue, as it always seems to break when attempting to save "yr2_unit_11_tn.doc.app" when "yr2_unit_1_tn.doc.app" already exists in the 'fscommand' folder. If I create a new 'fileNames.csv' file which only contains ten entries from 'yr2_unit_11_tn.doc' to  'yr2_unit_20_tn.doc', and run the script to an empty 'fscommand' folder, it processes all the files fine. It just won't do all twenty entries from 1 to 20.
Here's the script. I know I'm doing something really stupid here, but as a rock bottom novice AppleScripter, I can't see the error, or why it would work in one version of AppleScript and not another. I can post a link to the zipped files if this is any help in solving it. Thanks in advance for any help! :-)
tell application "Finder" to get folder of (path to me) as Unicode text
    set cwd to result
set fileRef to open for access alias (cwd & "fileNames.csv")
set theList to read fileRef using delimiter ","
    close access fileRef
set theFolder to alias (cwd & "fscommand")
set theFolderPath to theFolder as string
#Create the .app files and save them in theFolder
set NL to ASCII character 10
    tell application id "com.apple.ScriptEditor2"
    launch
              repeat with theItem in theList
set x to make new document
set x to the front document
set theCharacters to characters of theItem
set theReversedCharacters to reverse of theCharacters
set theReversedFileName to theReversedCharacters as string
set theOffset to offset of "." in theReversedFileName
set theReversedSuffix to text 1 thru (theOffset - 1) of theReversedFileName
set theSuffix to (reverse of (characters of theReversedSuffix)) as string
set the text of document 1 to "tell application \"Finder\"" & NL & "activate" & NL & "set cwd to get folder of container of (path to me) as Unicode text" & NL & "open file (cwd & \"assets:" & theSuffix & ":" & theItem & "\")" & NL & "end tell"
      compile document 1
set file_path to theFolderPath & theItem & ".app"
save document 1 as "application" in file file_path
      close window 1
              end repeat
    end tell

That seemed to be it. I put a tiny delay in between saving the document and closing the window and the file runs smoothly through all 20 items.
    compile document 1
set file_path to theFolderPath & theItem & ".app"
save document 1 as "application" in file file_path
    delay 0.3
    close window 1
Never thought that I'd reach the day where I was trying to slow the computer down to process something more carefully :-D

  • I have a 27 in. iMac with the latest version of Snow Leopard. When Lion comes out, will it be software I purchase and download online? I am trying to prepare for cost and don't have a point of reference, having been a Windows guy until last summer.

I want to know what to expect in terms of moving from one OS to another. Having been a Windows guy until last summer, my only experience is going from one version of Windows to another, which is usually a fairly costly purchase. I will want to go to Lion, but as a retired teacher, my income is fixed. I am not looking for a specific price, I am sure that is unknown, but I would just like to know help Apple does these things so I won't be sadly surprised.

Historically Apple has sold OS X upgrades via DVD media however with the advent of the Mac Apple Store that throws another possibility into the mix. That's about as much as I can say as these forums don't allow us to speculate about future products. As for the cost historically Apple has priced OS X upgrades between $29-$129, the last upgrade (Snow Leopard) was only $29 but that was an exception. Again we cannot speculate on these forums about that. The good news is that Apple is unlike Microsoft which makes OS upgrades expensive and complicated. The choice with OS X is do you want a server version (most users don't need one) or a single computer license. The users that buy server versions tend to have a number of Macs they manage from a server, most consumers don't have this issue.
Keep reading the news, as you know Apple has announced a Summer release for Lion.
Upgrades on OS X are usually very simple. I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and each transition has been very easy. With any major OS upgrade there are some basic rules to follow, for example always, always, always backup prior to any update. When Lion is released to the general public post again for what to do to prepare or even do a Google search on "How to prepare for OS X upgrade" and you will find a number of articles that will provide some suggestions and valuable insight. You can also re-post here and users will be happy to assist.
