Mtab conflicts with filesytem - forgot to perform a manual config

Question

Well I run into an old problem because I missed to configure arch after installing a new kernel through pacman.

I personally forgot to do: "pacman -S filesystem --force" and in addition I deleted /etc/mtab. As a consequence pacman is broken, too.
Furtunally I made a backup and with a live linux system I can still acces all files on my arch.
Because of missing just the above mentioned step I pay the price, which is - you name it  - you guess it - you know it - "unmet dependencies with local file systems.
Me: "My file arch is broken after an kernel update"
You: "Remember, pacman is just a kiss not a maintaining system for noobs"
Me: "Well, I have tried to turn it off and on again"
You: "But this isn 't the problem"
Me: "My Arch isn't working"
You: "The problem is sitting infront of the computer"
Me: "... well what do you mean"
You: "Read the news on the front page...before you run pacman"
Me: "Looking at the constellation of the moon and the sun - you won the price dude !"
... well I messed it up and now my question is how can I fix my wrong doings - any ideas!

mtab is just a symlink to /proc/sys/mounts these days.
$ ls -l /etc/mtab
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 May 31 11:40 /etc/mtab -> /proc/self/mounts
